My last vax was Oct. 9. I just read in the WSJ that the CDC is recommending a "spring vaccine" for those over 65 (that's me!) who are at least 4 months out from their last dose. I'm traveling to NY on March 22 and DH and I will get yet another shot sometime in March. Masking in the airport and airplane for sure.
CDC is also saying immunocompromised may get vaccinated as often as every 2 months.

She texted me yesterday saying "NOW they tell me I need another Covid vaccine!". She is recovering more slowly than she thought she would. We (husband and I) are leaving tomorrow and will be taking several flights over the next week. We didn't have time to get another vaccine before leaving. But yes, definitely masking in the airports and on the airplanes.

A colleague went to Paris a couple of weeks ago and came back with Covid. I always say I’ll wear a mask on the plane but know that I also get lazy. He’s pretty sure his came from the plane but who can tell these days.

Just back from 4 days in NYC. I did wear a mask on the flight out, but that was it as far as the masking went. We attended a basketball game at Madison Square Garden (fabulous!) and if anything would qualify as what used to called a "super spreader event" that would be it. DH and I did not fall ill, and I abandoned the mask for the rest of the trip.
We did both get a booster a couple of weeks ago.

Lani, that sounds like an amazing trip! I’d love to see a basketball game at Madison square garden! I’ve only been to crypto for Lakers games and even more now that my guy lives across the street from it. The kids and ex and I are flying to NYC Friday morning. We’ll stay for a few days then back home so the kids can enjoy the rest of their spring break as a staycation. I plan to have us mask on the plane because I want no Covid this time unlike last time I was in a plane then tested positive for it.

finreporter, have a great trip! I have heard that the actual flight is safer than being in the airport due to the air circulation on the planes.

I got Covid for a second time in early January of this year. We went to Paris and Amsterdam in late Feb/early March for two weeks. We were in Amsterdam 6 days, then Paris 4 days, then back to Amsterdam for 4 days. On the train back from Paris to Amsterdam my husband started coming down with a cold. Got worse and ended up being Covid. He spent the last 3 days of our holiday in the room recouping (he'd never had it til then, and only got a slight fever for about 48 hours and then a bad cold). I had immunity or so I thought from being sick in January, but nope! I felt fine but had a little cough before we flew out and tested myself and was slightly positive. In the Netherlands they have so many tourists that they have a touristdoctors.com so we called and got a phone appointment and they told us that nobody gets Paxlovid or the other meds there unless they are so ill that they're in hospital, and that they just treat it like a flu now, so we should get meds that treat symptoms and just mask up and fly home. We did just that because we had no choice, but we did mask from the moment we got into the cab to airport, until we got home. Once home, my Covid turned into a bad sinus cold but it was over in a week. So third time but less each time. Now we are also supposed to get another booster now, but we have to wait until June I think, since we just had it.
I think Covid is now the cost of doing travel of any kind. And yes, plenty of people on the planes and really everywhere with very few masking but everyone coughing, hacking, sneezing, etc. and nobody covering their damn mouths. People, in general, are disgusting nowadays. You really have to do your own precautions with masking and sanitizing. And lani is correct, once the plane reaches altitude and the circulation system kicks into full gear, you are less likely to get germs in your face unless of course you're sitting in close proximity to a cougher/sneezer. My epidemiologist friend whom I've referenced here before says best to don a mask from the moment you enter the airport until you reach altitude and if you must remove the mask do it then but put it on in the airplane bathrooms because there are germs sprayed all over the place in there. Ditto boarding and deplaning.
