Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Another nice day here expected, but just in the high 30's today, compared to 44 yesterday.
Wow! Another impressive weekend total views! 171!!! Wouldn't we all love even 1/2 of those viewers to come back and say Hi, and let us know what they are reading? Don't be shy, you don't have to get personal, (NOT REQUIRED!) if that would help. Would love to have more opinions on books everyone is reading. And! Another 2 pager!!!
Robin, thank you, I think I remember your issue with the Fosomax. I did read all the info that comes with the pills, as I do whenever I start a new drug, and it did warn of that as a possible side affect. I will obviously give it a try, but keep a close watch on my symptoms, as he is treating me for my acid reflux acting up as it is! As for Mexican restaurants, we have a Margaritas here in GB. Everyone loves it, even the kids.
Gareth, that picture of the birthday cake yesterday!!!! I just wanted to reach out and grab a piece! How was it, was it as great as it looked? I love cakes like that, but DH does not, he thinks it is too sweet. Bring it on, lol!! About the Osteo, the test is done at the local hospital, with having the mamo done right before. Then it takes a few days for the doctor to get the test. His nurse is the one that called about going on the med. At the bone density test, they give you a sheet of paper with the breakdown of how to read the results, which once the doctor calls, you can go into your account with the clinic and see, so that sheet of paper is very helpful. I don't mind that I did not talk to the doctor, but I will give the pill probably a 4 week try. After getting my acid reflux settled down after how it acted up so bad, in December, I do not want to fool around with that.
Pinky, no, no follow up, about the Fosomax, but that is ok. I looked at our local grocery store, which is pretty big, yesterday for the masks and they didn't have any either, but not sure if they had them in the first place. I did get to stock up on hand sanitizers. Going to put 1 in each vehicle, and have them around the house. As we go along, every day seems to be more and more people getting the virus. The only thing I worry about is they are saying people with respiratory issues are the ones to worry about getting it. That would be me. Grrr!!! I am even thinking of getting our pantry stocked, just in case worse comes to worse. So glad you are feeling better!!! The church members must have been shocked to see you, lol!!
Anngie, did you have any side effects from the Fosomax? That is scary too, that a pill that is supposed to build up your bones could actually break them!!! What is the sense to the pill then? Thanks for mentioning the Prolia, I too will look into that one.
Pinky, my goodness, that is awful!!! Now I am pretty scared of that pill!!! That is all I need, what with living in an upper, to have a broken leg!!! No thank you!!!
Had a great day yesterday, except for the fact that DH was not feeling good. He spent the day in his chair, mostly sleeping, then last night he was sneezing a lot so I have a feeling he is getting a cold. Same with me this morning, with the sneezing and runny nose. But I did get to the Y, compared to the other day, with it being so busy, it was nice and quiet yesterday morning. The day was a beautiful day, a nice one to take a walk, but I had things to do, both on the computer, and going through DB paperwork, having to do with the sale of the house, so I had the race on, but so involved in all that with the house, I barely watched, and did not get outside for a walk.
Taking DH to his Botox shot this morning, then hoping to take a walk.
Am 3/4 of the way thru A Well Behaved Woman. Will miss it when I am done.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, if you are having a problem with acid reflux, this really might not be for you, if you see yourself feeling worse, call your doctor right away. I saw Gareth's cake too, it looked like it came from a professional bakery.
I am not sure why we have quite so many views, although maybe people are looking for something like the Facebook page I am on where the only thing people talk about are books. Who knows.
It looks to be a nice day here today, started out at 41, going into the 50's supposedly, and it looks sunny. Got to get moving. I re-read The Alice Network up until just after I stopped last time. It goes back and forth in time from 1947 to 1915, so maybe it will take a little more time to get into it. I am at 21% now.

Karen, DGD outdid herself on decorating the cake. Of course I wouldn't tell her it was waaay too chocolate. Double chocolate cake with chocolate filling heavily iced with double chocolate frosting. I love chocolate but couldn't finish my piece. I used the excuse I'd had too much pizza. Nice afternoon spent with family. Soap and water is always best but if it isn't available then hand sanitizers are the next best thing.
Listened to The Other Daughter as I walked this morning. A little over an hour left in it. I'll have to look up A Well Behaved Woman. Just looked to see though and I do have two books waiting. Gotta get a shower. Start of another work week. Where did the weekend go?!

Robin, seems like we're always posting at the same time. I lurked for a long time before I finally joined in so maybe others will eventually too.

Karen---Hope your DH feels better soon and you don't get anything too much. Maybe all the viewers are looking for a good book idea---or maybe we are just that darn interesting---LOL!!!! I do know that each time we look at our thread it adds another view too so guessing a few come from us, but agree we have a lot of viewers besides and would love to have new friends.
Robin---I had come up for The Alice Network about a month ago but never got started with it as I had to many others and I let it go. I do have it on hold again so will be waiting to hear your final thoughts on it.
Gareth---I love chocolate but that does sound very chocolatey. So yummy though in a smaller portion. Trying to remember how old your GD is---she did a beautiful job.
I am feeling like crap again today. Right when I was getting into bed last night I got the chills so bad and just couldn't warm up. Got up and put socks on and warmer pj's and cuddled up to DH which is usually the trick but I still was just so cold. I saw every hour on the clock and dozed in between, don't know what that is all about---I guess mainly I was just so cold. Woke up at 6 and I was so dang hot. I laid in bed until after 7, just feeling tired and exhausted plus achy. A little tickle in the throat but just really a feeling of yuckiness. As I right this I am very chilled again. I hate being sick---sorry about the pity party. DS#1 just came in the house to ask me a question and he said he was not feeling well either, sounds exactly like me.
We need to run a few errands in Brookings sometime today and I am not feeling like going but I will need to go along it looks like. I just want to lay around and listen to Educated---actually I am not even that much in the mood for listening to it or tv---just want quiet. Again sorry about feeling sorry for myself---I just do not do SICK very well!!!

I actually had a busy weekend. Well, not busy, but I have things to report for a change. Saturday I did my grocery shopping and target. At Target I used my Target card which I keep in a credit card case. there were girl scouts selling cookies at the entrance to the grocery store so I wanted to buy a box and when I reached for my wallet - not there! Not on the floor of my car. Just gone. I had some cash tucked into a pocket of my purse so I did my shopping (but not the extras) and when I went to get in line I brought up the store's frequent shopper ap and my credit card was there. DD orders her groceries for delivery on it and she pays with my credit card so it must have kept the card number so I was able to pay with the credit card as I usually do. I had dh take me to my office and my wallet was on the floor under my desk - I remember my purse fell off my desk and it must have fallen out. DH and I went for dinner to the place we couldn’t get a reservation last week. Dinner did not disappoint. Sunday I went to the community theater play with my friend’s theater group. The play was a bit better than the last one but still really not good. And the script was a bad choice in my opinion. Bus Stop. I guess this originally starred Marilyn Monroe. There were themes in there that were inappropriate in today’s world. Stalking. Pedophelia. A man forcing his affections on a woman and her falling for it in the end. This script should have been left in the vault. After the play out to dinner. Now I have to decide if I want to buy tickets again for next year’s season. On the plus side is it’s an afternoon out with some female not-yet-friends and I really am not social enough. On the minus side is that the plays really are awful and I would like to spend my money elsewhere.
DD gave me the date for her sorority’s parent weekend this semester and unfortunately it is the weekend before Passover which would be a really bad weekend for me to be gone. We had talked about it as an excuse for me to come down and spend the weekend with her on my own without dh. So I threw out the idea to dh of picking an alternate weekend and he thought that was a good idea so I have booked a hotel because I found a really good deal. I can cancel the reservation if I need to. And here’s the funny part – it’s the weekend of the last play in that theater series!
The only time I eat fast food is when traveling. If we are on the road it is the quickest place to grab lunch, and every now and then in the airport I’ll have a McDonald’s fish sandwich. I don’t think I’ve seen McDonald’s in Chicago so that must be Minneapolis or Detroit.
Robin – I would bet that the cooks in the Chinese restaurants aren’t traveling back and forth to China all that frequently that people have to be worried. That is just more fearmongering.
Karen – will you try the tuna casserole again? I haven’t made it in years. DS used to like it but dd hated it. I made it so simply – cooked noodles, 2 cans tuna, a can of cream of mushroom, a can of milk, an handful of grated cheese, potato chips on top.
Anngie – I remember a very nice French restaurant in Chicago when I lived there. It was actually where dh took me to propose. I don’t know if it is still there.
Karen – so happy things are lining up for dd!
Pinky – I hope you feel better.
My mother's 98th birthday is tomorrow. She had tried to talk me into going. I'm glad I didn't - it is too soon after I was just there. Hair cut and color this week. I need the cut. My hair feels long.

Pinky, sorry you are feeling bad. I hope you can take it easy today.
The weather this weekend was beautiful, sunny and in the 70s. It was very windy though. I have heard several people complain about their allergies acting up. I got a headache last evening. My head felt stuffed so I think it was from allergies or sinuses. I took stuff and it is gone this morning.
I ran into the same problem with Prolia having to try something else first. The odd thing is I had gotten one shot and when it was almost time for another, the doctor's office called to tell me and I was put on Fosomax. I don't remember any side effects. When I was going to have a tooth implant, I had to go off it-something about the way the bone grows or how fast it grows. My last bone density test was okay so I don't have to take anything.
Our community theater group is actually pretty good. They usually do comedies or musicals, but this spring they are going to do Steel Magnolias. I don't think we will see it because it makes me cry so much. Last year we went to a play with DS and DDIL in their town. It was awful. The acting was really bad. These days the lines and action in old plays and movies make me cringe as Marsha mentioned. Did anyone watch One Life to Live back in the 80s about Luke and Laura? Luke raped her and then she fell in love with him and they became this great romantic couple and even got married. I have a hard time with things like that. It was like the writers just ignored the first part and the fans went along with it.

Carol - I remember that Luke and Laura storyline. I remember that even then I was bothered by the whole thing.

Hello everyone! It’s nice to have all those views! I’m one of those that might check in once or twice - so could two times for me! haha
Karen, I never had any problems with Fosamax. I think the issue is it can be taken for too long and then starts becoming a problem - in some people. It’s a large bone, if I remember correctly, in the leg that for some reason weakens. Fosamax works very well, but it can’t be taken forever.
Gareth, that cake looked delicious! How I wanted a piece of chocolate cake after seeing it - actually a piece of chocolate anything would do. I’m glad to see you had a nice birthday with family.
Robin, looking forward to hearing how you like The Alice Network if you decide to finish it. I found it interesting to read about women and spying during WWII.
Marsha, wow that must have taken 10 years off your life! But it ended well. Happy 98th birthday to your mom - what a blessing to have her and the fact she’s doing so well! I’ve been in similar situations where I’d rather spend my money elsewhere. Plus it’s time spent doing something you really don’t care to do. Do the not-yet-friends do other things you could be a part of?
Pinky, sorry to hear you’re not feeling well. Actually, down right crappy, right! For me, sleep is the best medicine. Can you go to bed early tonight?
I read A Well Behaved Woman last fall and enjoyed it. It was interesting to see that even the very rich have their class distinctions! Too funny, really.
Speaking of fast food - do any of you have Chick-fil-A nearby? It’s delicious but not the best food to eat as it’s fried. We stop on our way to NC - I demand it! lol

I am also guilty of checking at times an not posting, but still, doesn't add up to that many more views.
Carol, one of the reasons I didn't get an implant was because of the bone density issue.
Anngie, I think there is a Chick-fil-a now somewhere here on LI but I wouldn't make a trip there for anything. I have had their Southwestern chicken salad with grilled chicken, and I thought it was very good.
Marsha, that is the kind of crazy thing that would happen to me, with your wallet. I have done it. Recently it was with my phone. I was sure I had it with me, even thought I left it at the bank and went back there, then realized I never unplugged it from my charger at home. I have misplaced plenty of things. Such a quandary about that theater group, I know what you mean about wanting to have something special to do on the weekend. Now that you are empty nesters you want that even more.
Gareth, I can definitely see that being too chocolaty, even for a chocolate lover, it just gets to be too much.
Pinky, I am also not feeling great today. I didn't sleep too badly because I took some of the capsules that are like Nyquil, I was out of the liquid, but they did help me sleep. I stopped for Daycare and Nyquil on my way in to the office, so no stuffiness now. Hope you feel better soon.

I was wrong. Luke and Laura were on General Hospital. I haven't watched soap operas in years. I don't even know if there are any on.
We go to Chick-Fil-A pretty often. We usually get the grilled chicken sandwich and instead of getting fries, getting a side salad or a fruit bowl. It seems fast food places are trying to offer a few healthy choices. We were talking the other day about fast food places and DH and I couldn't remember the last time we have been to Burger King, Arby or Jack in the Box. It sounds like a few of us aren't feeling the best today. I hope everyone feels better.
