This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ****************************************** Becky, I am glad DN is doing okay after surgery. I hope it means she is cancer free and I hope she is pain free soon. Good luck on the pre surgery check today. I am doing okay. Allergies have already kicked in for spring, otherwise fine.
Linda, happy to hear the patient is healing and you got an afternoon of peace and quiet.
Waving to Karen, Kathy (nice shot of the hawk!), and Liz.
Super Tuesday shows it will be a septuagenarian showdown for the Democrats. So much for change.

Thanks for the start, Chele. Sorry the allergies are rearing their ugly little pollen filled heads so early. Have you watched 9-1-1 Lonestar yet? Did you catch the derogatory comment from Michelle's sister about Texas State? Dale didn't appreciate it because that's where he got his masters. I totally agree on the septuagenarian showdown, and it will go all the way to the general election. Funny thing is that people say they want new ideas but continue to vote for the old "guys". I hope if the Dems win in November, they will find a nice cabinet post for Mayor Pete to get him some national experience. I think Amy would make an awesome VP. Do your feathered friends seem to prefer the black sunflower seeds to the smaller seed mix? We are having to fill the sunflowers once or twice a week but the mix about every other week, if that. We do seem to have woodpeckers who have found the suet blocks and one of them is completely gone, so he apparently has had help. The downy hasn't been to the feeder in a while but I've seen him several times at the suet.
Linda, glad the patient is doing better but I hate the catheter has to be in til tomorrow. Has home health at least been there to change it out so chances of infection are minimized? Did you get some rest yesterday? Did you go to the museum today?
How did things go in RR today, Becky? Glad you didn't have to go to Austin, although I know RR these days isn't a picnic traffic-wise either. So it's good that Kenneth is still ok with driving there. Any word on DN today? I hope her pain level is decreasing. When will she get to go home?
Liz, I hope you're keeping the forces of evil, including Covid-19, at bay. When's the next visit to the dentist?
Beautiful hawk, Kathy! Definitely a cousin to our Cooper's Hawks. Looks pretty large. Dale saw a bald eagle almost have lake gull for breakfast. I was someplace else and missed it entirely. I heard something this morning that, unless something major happens between now and St. Paddy's Day, Biden will probably take FL and GA. I was surprised that the Asheville area seemed to be almost the only part of NC that went for Sanders. But then that has actually turned into a bunch of liberal retirees from the NE who come to buy the "cheap" real estate. And Boone is a big college town went the same way, which isn't too surprising with his support among the college crowd. I really thought Raleigh would be more liberal.
Dale saw something last night that Amazon is out of hand sanitizer and don't know when they will be restocked. I do have some on hand, but keep a small package of wipes with alcohol in my car that is almost out. I had an idea that I am going to try and I have everything on hand already. I am going to take an empty supplement bottle with a screw on lid and take some dried out baby wipes cut them in quarters and add alcohol then seal the bottle. That should be good for wiping off shopping carts at places without wipes and would be small enough to carry into the store in one of the reusable bags I take in anyway. It would also give me a good way to recycle some of my supplement bottles. I did some treadmill time this morning and Dale went to the trails, just getting home a few minutes ago in time for a job interview. He does have a part time offer in hand, but the interview is full time with benefits, which I didn't think he wanted. He talked a little about the interview process and it's pretty obvious it's millennials in charge, so I don't know if that one is going to work out. It seems they are more interested in checking each other's work and he's trying to figure out when the actual work is supposed to be done. Doesn't sound like a good fit to me. It's cloudy but almost 60 degrees, so almost like springtime.

Karen, I did watch Lonestar and heard the dis. Probably an East or West Coaster who wrote the dialogue. I did not expect the carnage at the end. The birds like the sunflower seeds and the peanuts the best. I have little suet balls in the flat feeder for the woodpeckers. I just signed up Iggy and me to a Spring Migration Bird Walk in Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum on May 9. It is an historic cemetery as well as a nature preserve. Here is a link to their website, in case details interest you. Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum Good luck to Dale if he works with the younger crowd.

Hello Chicks and happy hump day. We have our first confirmed cases of COVID-19 up at one of our campuses. No surprise as it was never about if...but when. I'm proud that the hospital and entire enterprise are being very proactive and cautious with great communication and strategy. There's too much hysteria which is not wise or helpful. Cuomo actually stated it very well at a press conference this afternoon that enterprise president attended: "there is definitely an epidemic of the virus but there is a pandemic of "panic". There are some really specific ways that the virus can spread but those that are most susceptible are the elderly, those with compromised immune systems, and those with underlying respiratory illnesses. Chele - boy you hit the nail on the head with the democrats and their septuagenarians. How are the allergies doing? We were in the mid 50s today in the city and I believe it will be the same tomorrow. Linda - good to hear that the patient is coming along well. I hope you're getting some rest from all the errands and care-giving. Becky - as long as you're tolerating the walking and movement then great! It is true that is will help with the recovery. PT will also help to rebuild your strength and the muscles surrounding the knee. Kathy - great hawk picture. The virus is concerning from a number of perspectives but most generally healthy people who have tested positive, are quarantined and following medical advice are healing without too much issue. It is a good idea to avoid large crowds whenever possible right now; the hospital has put a ban on all business travel for the next 60 days. We're avoiding handshakes and now elbow bump . Hand washing is still the best way to go whenever possible. Hand sanitizer is next but will dry your skin out terribly. How have you been feeling? How's mom and the family? Karen - so glad you and Dale were safe through those awful storms. I've spent most of today doing interviews and fighting the forces of evil. We had a major pipe burst down in the sub-basement which is a big problem and the work has been ongoing most of today so far. Dentist appointment tomorrow morning for another impression as there apparently was a problem with the first one. Then a vet appointment in the afternoon with Zoe for the cyst on her head that ruptured. Wally continues to wake me at 3:am this week to go out. The disruptive sleep continues. Sounds like the millennials might not be the best thing for Dale right now. You're being a very good germ preventer. There are so many stores and online purveyors out of supplies that it's ridiculous. People do not need to horde. Oh well, I am off to continue the fight against those forces of evil. Wishing you all a safe and nice evening. Ciao for now from NYC~

Chele, thanks for the start. It's way too hot today and we'll be around 90 again tomorrow. It's crazy that we only have septuagenarians to choose from and of course, that will be the case in the general election too. Hope your allergies aren't too bad. Mine really kicked in when I had to switch to AC, but they aren't too bad now. The hawk is a pretty one, but those are some scary talons!
Karen, the hawk is a Florida red shouldered hawk and they do look similar to the Cooper's Hawks. I think FL Democrats tend to be more moderate in general, so I won't be surprised if the state goes for Biden. I think I mentioned that I saw bottles of Purell on Amazon the other day for $39.99 or something totally ridiculous! I already had a box of Wet Ones antibacterial wipes, so have put a couple of those in my purse. There are only 24 in the box, but that should last me a few weeks. I think I bought them for hurricane prep last year. I saw where you could mix aloe and alcohol to make a gel, but it has to be 60% alcohol to be effective. Publix has been good at having the Purell stations with wipes for the carts, but they are out of all boxes of wipes and bottles of hand sanitizers.
Liz, sorry to hear about the confirmed case, but like you said it was inevitable. I haven't seen any evidence of hoarding around here and the stores seem to have everything in stock with the exception of Purell. My understanding is that the Purell and similar products are antibacterial and not anti-viral anyway. Is that correct? Like you said, hand washing is the best defense and avoiding large crowds. I keep hearing not to touch the face with unwashed hands which makes sense and is true for flu and colds as well. I'm glad I kind of had major travel on hold until DS and DBIL retire, so there aren't any planned trips to cancel or worry about. No concerts planned this year either and no plans for theme parks. I was really low on contact lens supplies and cough/cold meds, so now have those on hand. My main worry are the 3 nonagenarians in our family. (had to look that one up, lol!) One of them is flying from Philly this week and they will be together in NSB for a few days. They are all exceptionally healthy for their age, so should be okay, but it is a worry.
Becky, I'm glad your DN is doing okay and hope she will be pain free once she recovers. Hope your appointment went okay.
Linda, glad the patient is doing better.

Thanks for the start Chele. My DN posted a picture of her incision on FB saying bye bye cancer.Someone else asked her how she was feeling and she said she felt like she was hit with a baseball bat.Sorry about your allergies.
Karen I tried watching one episode of 911 Lonestar and I didn't care for it.The one with the firemen going into a strip bar just didn't appeal to me.You are right on RR traffic especially after we got 1" rain a couple of hrs before we left.We left early because of the weather but it was over by time we left so we got there early and the surgeon was running late. They did take my BP today and it was high although at home it was normal. They just said they would check it at the hospital before surgery anyway.I'm scheduled for next Wednesday at 12:30 and I have to be there at 10:00.I don't know if it's been because it was cooler and damp or sitting longer than I'm used to at the surgeon's office but both of my knees have hurt today.I'm not getting near as many steps in today but after going to Bastrop yesterday and RR today I'm too tired to care.My DSIL said she would be in there 4 days-1 week.
Liz I'm sorry your hospital has the first confirmed case of COVID-19.I agree with Mayor Cuomo.Panic can be worse than the disease.

Becky, good for her. Hope she recovers quickly.
At Costco (yeah again) today there was some Charmin and cube Kleenex boxes..that's it. Evidently at lot of paper products come from China people fear they will become unavailable.
Never use hand sanitized, just wash well ss soon as zi get home. What I should sanitizes bottom of my handbag....Those are some of the germiest things there are. Think where you put them down?
So glad a cleaning lady is coming here tomorrow. I wash all towels , night clothes, pillow cases used every day to avoid patient infection. Cooking three meals daily plus patient care. Step and fetch it...Disinfecting counters, etc. Walk dog, etc
Today I had to exchange something I got at Walgreens , go to Costco to get another pair of sweatpants for patient, clean up clutter and put away a few things for cleaner tomorrow, then get to Sprouts for yogurt and produce. Day before it was three things. Day before that.... So tired. Never got a chance to bake the oatmeal cookies. Maybe Friday.
Did get to sit while and finish the puzzle...four missing pieces. Drat..dog is fast finding what I drop. 1000 pieces fall off the dining table easily on my sleeves.
patient is recovering well. Tomorrow is follow up at dr.
