Day 16 – Preventing Unplanned Eating
This is where Beck introduces the “NO CHOICE” response card. It is used to decrease the struggle and discomfort when we are struggling about eating/drinking something off plan. The answer is “NO CHOICE” because you have a plan and you are going to eat according to plan. The discomfort comes from the indecision and once we make the decision about what we will do the discomfort goes away.
Beck suggests you make other “NO CHOICE” rules that help you stay on plan.
How do you handle the situation when you are struggling about eating/drinking off plan? Do you use “NO CHOICE” or not?
Do you have any other “NO CHOICE” rules?

With struggling to eat off plan sometimes I give in, other times I talk myself out of it. When I'm home I don't have much if any food that would tempt me so I'm usually good there. It is when I eat out I can be tempted. I don't really use NO CHOICE because it is a little harsh for me. I use talking to myself. I do understand the idea of NO CHOICE but I've come to it through experience and habits and routine building. The closest I've come to a NO CHOICE rule is not bringing sweets into the house although I will bring in a single serving at times.

I don't use no choice...thought about creating some hard and fast rules but it feels horrible to break a rule. I think having choices and making the choice to or not to have something at any given time seems a healthier idea. That said, if I had a known allergy to a food I probably would make a hard and fast rule to NOT eat it so I wouldn't die
This morning I thought about "not dieting" and just "eating wisely"...hmm...

I can be No Choice about things that are easy for me like exercise, tracking, etc. Sticking hard and fast to my plan every day, I am more like Make Good Choices Most of the Time. Too much No Choice brings on a rebellious streak.

I am also NO CHOICE about exercising and trying to keep on track with my normal breakfast and lunch options. But there has to be room to splurge once in a while!

NO CHOICE for me, applies to tracking honestly. With exercise I allow choice based on time and whatever the demand on my energy for that day. Where food is concerned I am considering a NO CHOICE decision to stay within my healthy eating points zone.
