This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ********************************************** National Ravioli Day.
My favorite is stuffed with mushrooms or Evol’s frozen ravioli with butternut and sage (small portion so I don’t overindulge).

Becky, I hope the doctor takes care of that hematoma soon and that it is not too painful. Good luck with PT today.
Linda, how was carryout? We are not used to cooking 3 times a day every day either. Breakfast has been fruit and toast lately.
Karen, DN in Japan has a contract for a year so he is staying put. A local couple is stuck in Peru. They closed the border before they could get a flight. I have been calling the baby Andy. His parents call him Andrew so far. Walking the trails this weekend is out. We have had a couple of inches of rain overnight so it will be a mess and we don’t have walking sticks. That’s right! A schmear of hummus! Your CSA box sounds delicious.
Waving to Kathy and Liz. Keep well.
Our county has tested over 200 people since Tuesday and we are expecting results today. A care facility just north of us has had 9 confirmed cases. Trying to stay calm.

Thanks for the start, Chele. Pretty avatar. Is ravioli on your menu for today? I've never seen the Evol. The only vegan one I have been able to find so far is Rising Moon's Butternut Squash Ravioli and it's kind of so-so IMO. I did have a chocolate ravioli once upon a time that was fabulous, but have never looked to see how easy it might be to make. Probably wouldn't be vegan tho. It's good that DN#1 is at least in a country where they have a handle on the virus, so he's probably safer there. I emailed my friend who is in China to be sure he knew that the State Department had said come home now or be prepared to stay "indefinitely". He's usually on top of things but wasn't aware. He said he was going to call the embassy today to see what options they have. With California being on lock down and most of the flights from Asia going into either LAX or SF, he thinks he may not be able to get a flight. Keep calling the little guy Andy, even if that's just what his Aunt Chele calls him. Maybe it will stick. Sorry the hike had to be canceled. The additional rain you had certainly didn't help matters. You might want to think about investing in a couple pair of trekking poles even for those mudless hikes. They are really helpful on balance. It sounds like your county at least is testing. There are some efforts to gear up in the region, so maybe some day. As long as we stay symptom-free, no huge problem. However, I have recently seen a couple of studies where they tested everyone in a town and found a ton of positives who were asymptomatic, so basically spreading the virus. We can't stem the spread if we don't know who's infected. Of course, putting everyone on lock down for a couple of weeks would do a lot to resolve the issue.
Becky, sorry about the hematoma. I hope they can get that resolved easily. Did they mention using hot compresses? What did the visiting nurse say today? When are you scheduled to see the surgeon again?
How was the takeout, Linda? What did you have? It's good that you have so many restaurant options. There is no statewide regs here about restaurants only doing takeout or delivery but there should be. I saw a bunch of places like TJ Maxx and Kohl's are closing for a few weeks. I thought that was a responsible idea.
Kathy, did you get the taxes finished up and sent? What kind of weather are you having? We had a beautiful spring day yesterday but clouds and rain today. We are expecting some strong storms this evening. Has everything there pretty much closed down except for supermarkets, drug stores, and takeout places? What are you hearing on testing there? Have you identified any birds by call yet?
I know you aren't finding much time to read these days, Liz, but I saw a NY Times headline that read, "Fighting A War With No Ammo". I thought that was pretty clever and extremely sad. I guess cases are still on the uptick there, but the streets look almost deserted. From what I've heard, it will take a couple of weeks to catch up, and Dr. Fauci says it will get worse before it gets better. Sending you good karma. I hope you get home at a decent hour, have a quiet weekend, and will find fairly well stocked shelves on your grocery run. Or is that hoping for too much? How is Zoe doing, and is Wally allowing you to sleep through the night right now?
Dale is laying in supplies. He went to Food City, IGA, the apple orchard, and Lowes then to Papa Murphy's. I got the keto veggie without cheese like I did last time and will put it over a bean pasta of some sort. I placed a good sized herb order after reviewing again the herbal response to Covid-19 video I posted the link to yesterday. I made a jar of fresh ginger tea and it definitely has a kick, so I got some good ginger. I'm nursing a shoulder/collarbone injury that happened at dinnertime yesterday when Dale had the door to the microwave open and I didn't notice and ran into it. I hope it's just a bruise and I didn't chip a bone. Not anything that can be done if I did chip it. Dale just called and says he has a screw in a back tire (fortunately just leaking and not flat), so I guess that will lengthen his trip.

Chele, thanks for the start. Pretty flower! I can't think of the name of it, but there is a good refrigerated ravioli brand at Publix. My favorite is the stuffed mushroom. My aunt and cousins had a good trip yesterday and there were only 15 people on the plane. They arrived really early to avoid any crowds and were able to spread out on the plane, so that's encouraging. They'd still be driving today if they hadn't flown. The Andrew in our family has always gone by the full name and one of my favorite co-workers went by Drew. Andy makes me think of Andy Williams or Andy Griffith, lol! Sorry your hike has to be cancelled, but it's not fun wading through mud. I get the impression your governor took action quickly and I hope it pays off for Ohio. Meanwhile, Florida still has thousands of spring breakers cavorting on the beaches and soon to return home to places all over the country. I don't know why that wasn't shut down. Even Rick Scott was calling for the beaches to be shut down and I rarely agree with anything he says. Local officials stepped in and closed some beaches, but I saw where the spring breakers just moved past the barriers to sections that weren't closed. Karen, wow on there being no frozen veggies at Publix. I hadn't seen that at ours, but they cancelled a couple of bags of Steamfresh veggies in my delivery order on Monday. The only things that have been shut down here are bars and nightclubs. Restaurants can operate at half capacity and have to provide distance between tables. I went for a drive yesterday around 6pm and there was still a good bit of traffic. I drove up to the Pubix shopping center to the north of me and it was doing a good business. There were two small restaurants that were open, plus a Subway and Domino's doing business. I passed the Econ wilderness preserve and the parking lot was fuller than when DS and I went on our hike on a Saturday. I also saw quite a few people walking, jogging, and riding bikes in the neighborhood. Honestly, I didn't notice much difference from a normal Thursday except that the preserve parking lot was fuller than normal.
It's hot here with highs getting close to 90. I think one of the birds I've been hearing is some kind of wren. It sounds a lot like the Carolina wren call. The hawk was perched on the post again and very noisy today. The loose feathers are gone and the sun was really shining on his red feathers. I hear several other birds that I haven't been able to identify yet. Taxes are done, woohoo! I still have to move some money into my IRA and HSA. I'm getting a nice refund due to only working part of last year. DM is getting a small one, but it's better than having to pay.
Becky, sorry to hear about the hematoma and hope you are doing okay today.
Linda, how was the takeout? Probably good that you got the AC maintenance done in case they shut all that down for awhile. Mine isn't due until July.
Liz, thinking of you and hope you are keeping well.

Florida just shut down restaurants except for takeouts and delivery. Still lots of open beaches and hotels though.

Karen, ouch in the collarbone/shoulder injury. I hope it heals quickly. Good idea to stock up on supplies. I did not check Kroger’s supply of frozen veggies because I had bought some at Meijer. Not another leaky tire! Didn’t you have one a couple of months ago. No ravioli in the house I am sorry to say. I haven’t seen the brand Rising Moon. Ginger tea sounds good. I have some Stash lemon ginger tea.
Good news on taxes, Kathy, although the deadline has been extended to July 15. At least it is done. Kroger used to. stock a frozen mushroom ravioli as well as a spinach but then they changed to the typical meat or cheese raviolis. 🤮 I saw the Florida beaches on Good Morning America this morning. Dumb kids! My GF saw this on Twitter this morning: “Ohio and Louisiana announced their first cases of COVID in the same day. Louisiana has 347 cases and 8 deaths. Ohio has 88 cases and no deaths. Ohio’s population is 11.6 million. Louisiana’s is 4.6 million. Dewine’s quick and thorough response is saving lives. Stop complaining.” I am not surprised the preserve is fuller. People need to get out. I have seen a hawk circling directly over the backyard. The squirrels, chipmunks and birds better watch out. The flower is an upside down daffodil. The rain battered them down.

pretty flowers and birds here.
I heard the place to go us an Asian food market since a lot of people associate it with China and are not going.
We got hot cheese and salsa dip with toasted Italian bread plus a large Cuban Reuben. tasty.
Tonight us leftover curried cottage pie. But I got the leeks today to try creamy chicken, grapes,leeks...French thing.
Got my gel shot in the knee first thing when few people are there. They used to have hand sanitizer on every table by chairs. Now two are heavily taped to the counter where you check in! People stole them.
Stopped at Sprouts for produce and milk...normal , peaceful, few people, stuff all there except from tp, cleaning stuff and frozen veg. Easy to stay over six feet away.
Took Micki to groomer before they have to close...he needs bath for allergies and desperately needs trim at rear. DH us not allowed to lift fir three more weeks and dog actively resists! He is only dog I ever had who is impossible to trim at home..not anything ! and is great with the groomer. Heaven knows when the opportunity without much sickness around yet will come again.I may have to wrestle him into the tub.
I feel like germs are ready to jump on me the minute I get out of a car.
Nothing planned until next Friday shot and Sprouts
Now 22 cases in the county. Expect that to mushroom after idiots get back from parties at spring break. Last Edit: a few

Chele, I saw that they extended the taxes to July, but since we're getting refunds, we wanted our money! Plus, I'm guessing the identity theft crooks will be out in force with the delay in filing. I'm surprised so many kids made it to spring break here. My parents controlled the $$$ when I was in college and there's no way I would've been allowed to go. The hawks are amazing birds, but you're right about the small critters being in danger. Nice shot of the daffodil.
Linda, I'm hoping things calm down at the stores and there will be less people there at any given time. I feel the same way about germs jumping on me if I go outside! I really need to do an inventory of what food I have and how long it will last. I started it and then get sidetracked with the taxes. I'm already running out of a lot of fresh produce. I haven't decided whether or not to do another delivery or go myself. I definitely want to keep DM out of the stores though, so would have to do her shopping too.
Karen, I haven't heard anything new on testing here, but will watch the local news in a bit. I saw some things come out of today's press conference that were just unbelievable. An NBC reporter asked Trump if he had anything to say to the millions of Americans that were scared and Trump went after the guy saying he was a terrible reporter and it was a nasty question. What a lost opportunity to show some empathy and say something reassuring. Stocks were once again plunging as he was talking. I really need to just quit looking.
CNN had experts answering questions on the virus last night and said it was extremely unlikely to get it via food. As long as you dispose of containers and wash hands, takeout should be fine. Reheating is a good idea too. For other things, they said it can live on cardboard for up to 24 hours and plastic and metal for up to 3 days. Wiping things down is good or just putting aside the things you don't have to use for a few days if they don't have to be in the fridge. For selecting produce, they suggested putting one of the produce bags over your hand and using that to select fruit/veggies. They also said the virus is most viable on surfaces for the first 2 hours, so the main thing is don't touch something and then touch your face. And of course, wash hands often.

Kathy, we used to get the Giovanni Rana ravioli in the refrigerator section. Is that the one you saw at Publix? They have a huge selection and we used to get the "family size" pack because it lasted for a while. I know it's a relief your family got back home and they were able to socially distance on the plane. I hope they are all healthy 2 weeks from now. Good news that they have finally started shutting things down there. Hopefully next week after the spring breakers have left they will close the beaches and severely limit hotel occupancy. If they did it to let some of the businesses get a little more revenue, I hope they don't pay dearly with lots of extra cases after all the tourists leave. I seriously doubt our governor will do anything without Trump's approval. The irony is he's in Nash-Vegas where most of the cases are clustered. I saw a lot of out of state license plates yesterday and Dale saw more today. They are limiting restaurant seating in Sevier County and some businesses are voluntarily closing or cutting back, but nothing substantial. So essentially people are coming here on "vacation" so they don't have to stay home and do nothing. So we need to change things so they can't do anything here either and will go back home. I hope they didn't bring their germs with them. The Knoxville mayor has closed gyms and inside restaurant seating, so they are all takeout or delivery right now. WOW on 90 degrees, but then we made it into the 70s, so no huge surprise. Congrats on the tax refunds. Dale only worked 1/2 year, so maybe we'll get one this year. I was watching the press conference when Trump had his meltdown at Peter Alexander. I also thought it was a lost opportunity for the president. I noticed the stock market ticking down, too, and it did not go well for the end of the day either. There is no way I would have been able to go anywhere on spring break with all of this going on, so I agree that things for kids nowadays must be very different.
Good for your governor, Chele. Those are some staggering comparisons between OH and LA. I meant to get a picture of my daffodils yesterday but forgot. We've had pretty heavy rain for a while now, so mine are probably beaten down as well. What will you do in lieu of the hike tomorrow?
Linda, that makes sense on the Asian market not being busy. After all, I heard Trump and his minions call it "the Chinese flu" several times during today's news conference. Enjoy your French dish. For some reason, leeks always stimulate my kidneys. Cuban Reuben is clever. Bet it was tasty. Glad Sprouts was sane when you were there. I guess there is going to be a lot of spring cleaning going on over the next few weeks. I heard the LA mayor say he thought they could be stuck at home for up to 2 months. Good that you were able to get Micki a bath, since that can't happen at home right now. I have the same feeling about germs as soon as I get out of the car. Kind of surreal. You're right about the number of cases there climbing expoentially shortly. Keep your safety precautions going and stay healthy.
My "pizza" was really good over soybean spaghetti. I probably have enough for about 3 more dinners, so pretty economical since it only cost $9. I got extra sauce and garlic this time and it was really good. I spent part of the afternoon getting things together for the special edition newsletter and sent it off before dinner. My wizard will work on it tomorrow and we'll get that out first of the week.

Thanks for the start Chele. The PT looked at them today and said one of them is from the clamps they put around your leg to do the surgery and the one on the left side is because when the blood pools in your legs that is the only place in your leg that has any skin to attach to.The body is supposed to absorb the blood and there is really no rhyme or reason it took a week to first show up but bruising is normal in joint replacement surgeries. So I'm drinking a lot of water, icing and elevating and getting a little movement in the house(emphasis on little)to move things in the body.I don't believe fruit and toast would fill me up for breakfast.I usually have scrambled eggs on a high fiber tortilla. We even got 1" of rain here today and are expecting more tomorrow afternoon. There are 41 confirmed cases in Travis County alone.I forget how many in the state.None in ours yet.
Karen They don't want me to use hot anything around the knee. It's ice only for now.The visiting nurse was the one who found the hematomas and sent in pictures. My doctor is actually out of the office until Monday b/c someone called me today from the same practice saying it looked like on one side the bruising starts where the thigh high compression stockings start and to get a longer size. These city doctors don't understand about small towns and the inability of getting odd sizes.I found one on Amazon that will get here Sunday.Hopefully it will be the right size.PT also changed the bandage since it was so bloody and he said the doctor did a wonderful job.One nurse at that hospital lied to me and said he would reattach it with glue.Wrong.There are 29 staples to be taken out. This has been my worst day for pain but once the staples and hose are gone I'm probably going to feel better.I have made a lot of therapy progress. The bend in my knee has gone from 87% to 97% in 3 visits and all home health requires for dismissal is 95%.However PT centers aren't accepting new patients because of the virus so he is going to recommend I stay with home health since the only requirements for it are not able to go out and I need more assistance. They like you off the walker and cane before they dismiss you and he still has me on the walker.I go back to the surgeon on Wednesday.I hope your shoulder feels better soon.
Kathy I thought I heard they made the spring breakers go home.I guess that's too big of a job.Our restaurants and cafes close to in door dining at midnight tonight. Our bank was closing the lobby and our church is only having Facebook ministry for right now.I have been having go to the store since I have hurt more with the bruising. It was 85 here yesterday and a high of 52 today with rain.My legs and knee is still really stiff.I have a 3 day reprieve before my next PT so hopefully I can gain back some strength.Looks like TX and FL are on the same wave length for now.Elective surgeries are being put off also.
I saw on my local news feed someone in Pence's office has been confirmed as having COVID-19.
