This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ******************************************* National Puppy Day.
Our county animal shelter will no longer accept strays brought in by the public, they will help re-home dogs but not accept them and only 5 people at a time are allowed into the shelter. It is a tough time for dogs and cats as well.

Thanks for the start, Chele. Happy National Puppy Day. Mine is celebrating by having me inside because it's raining--again. So sorry to hear about what's going on with your local shelter. I hope they have a foster care system to help the poor strays, many of whom may have just wandered away and have people looking for them. The shelters play such a vital role in reuniting lost pets with their owners. I heard your governor implemented a "stay home" order. Do you have grocery shopping that needs done?
Linda, did you get the TJ's email about 9 to 10 am being special entry time for "senior customers"? I wish I lived close enough to take advantage of that. No drive-thrus at any of the banks? WOW! That's inconvenient right now. I saw an actor on the a.m. news who had all the Covid-19 symptoms and had traveled out of the country. He went all over his city trying to get tested and when he finally was able to get tested, they said they wouldn't submit his test for results because he wasn't sick enough to be hospitalized. Our governor finally closed all non-essential businesses and restaurants are takeout or delivery only. Hopefully that has chased the tourists away. I have those flashes of normal as well, but they are short-lived. Thanks for the disinfecting packages link. UPS and USPS are both bringing packages to us today so I'll be using that info quickly.
I'll bet there were lots of streamed church services yesterday, Becky. It was even better for you, since you wouldn't have been able to go otherwise. One of the churches here did a drive-in service yesterday. I hope this will be pretty much behind us by Easter or that will be a bummer without sunrise or Easter services. However, the way things are going, it may not be. I would say your church has you covered for the long haul, what ever that might be. How's the knee/ankle/foot doing today? I'm glad you had your surgery when you did so you can be on the road to recovery. I assume it would have been considered "elective" and most of them are getting canceled right now.
Kathy, the Pigeon Forge mayor put a "stay home" order in effect as of today. Hopefully the other cities in the county will follow suit. I just saw the travel cam from Parkway in Sevierville and there aren't many vehicles on the roads right now. They also ha a news segment about a restaurant supply company in Palm Beach County, FL that is doing something like a CSA model to get all the produce restaurants and schools aren't using right now into the hands of consumers. So the farmers are getting paid and the food distributor employees are working Have you heard about it? The produce looked pretty good. I heard some of the beaches in the south were closed but it's not state wide. Has anything changed? I heard that cases are spiking in FL and that may be the next epicenter.
How's it going, Liz? Thinking of you!
Dale wasn't able to go to the trail because it's been pouring down rain all day. It started during the night and the heaviest is supposed to get here soon. I biked this morning and have towels in the washer. Not much more planned. I'm sorry to say I'm getting kind of used to not getting in 7500 steps a day. That's the downside of sequestering from the rest of the world.

Chele, thanks for the start. That's sad for the animals. Linda, thanks for that link. I'm letting my packages and mail bake outside for a few hours before I even pick them up and go through the disinfecting process. Do you still get a newspaper? I only get Thur and Sun and have digital access, but I'm thinking of going digital only for now. I didn't even want to touch the Sunday paper and threw it into the recycling bin. That's probably going overboard, but I don't know. I may convert the rest of my bills to digital too. I do almost all of my banking online anyway. Yes, I get those flashes of normal too. One thing that's really hitting me is seeing a tv show or movie where everyone is out in a busy city or just interacting with other people and doing normal things. Karen, we were thinking about the senior hours some places are having and wondering if we wanted to be in the same place with a lot of high risk people. Publix's senior hours are Tue and Wed at 7am and the age starts at 65. So, none of my family qualify for it except for DM and I don't want DM in the store either. I guess we're going to do the delivery thing since we have that option. I think the Dollar General has a lower age limit for their senior hours. We have one just up the road from us, so that might be an option for a quick stop.
What is that thing called rain? We're 5 inches below normal and close to drought conditions. We're supposed to get up to 95 this weekend, so I guess we'll see if heat affects the virus at all. It's still not as humid as summertime though. I heard something about the CSA thing on the local news, so I'll have to see if I can find out more. I'm definitely not getting as much walking in as when I was doing my normal activities. I need to step it up with some inside activity, but I'm finding it hard to get motivated. The Central Florida numbers are increasing, but don't seem to be spiking yet. Orange County has 45 cases with 39 of them being local residents and a population of 1.4 million. They're setting up some drive through testing places, so the numbers may spike once those start. I heard that someone from UCF tested positive and also saw that 5 from U of Tampa tested positive. The Tampa ones were at a spring break event. The panhandle still has pretty low numbers. South Florida is definitely spiking and that's where a lot of the spring breakers were. The beaches are not closed statewide unless it just changed. I don't see an issue with local residents taking a solitary walk on the beach, but it's the crowds that are the problem. They also allowed Bike Week to go on in Daytona a couple of weeks ago, but cancelled events for the last weekend of it. That accounted for some of the early cases in Volusia County, but their numbers are still low. Becky, that's nice that they're streaming the church services. I'm hoping things will calm down at the stores soon. Standing in line isn't what we need to be doing right now.
Liz, thinking of you!

Kathy, I just heard that there are also full planes of New Yorkers coming to FL to escape Coronavirus in NY. FULL planes!!! How many of those people do you think brought the virus with them? I think avoiding especially the special senior citizen hours at stores may be a good plan because how many of those New Yorkers on "vacation" will be among the people in the stores? I have a feeling your cases are going to start spiking expoentially in the next couple of weeks. I heard that your governor got a lot of pressure from governors in other states and that's why the beaches were finally closed. I guess, having to be so dependent on tourism taxes makes politicians there a bit more reluctant to close things down. I'm still surprised they let Bike Week happen, but then it might be difficult to reason with a bunch of hardcore bikers who think they are invincible. Our cases are up to 615 as of today and with all the tourists last week, I have a feeling the next couple of weeks we'll see increased in East Tennessee and Sevier County cases. In the meantime, I got an email this afternoon that Osteo is closed for at least the next 2 weeks, so I may not go out of the house for quite a while. I think I know where your 5 inches of rain went. We stole it. Fortunately, we aren't as wet as we were last winter, but I sometimes have had to water outdoor plants a couple of times a month, but not so far this year.

Newspapers inside are clean.they used to use them to spread out for emergency home medical births and things. Just remove the top sheet.
It is starting to go up faster. 58 new here, 139 total with 30% over 66. This is the county with the fifth largest city plus another with almost half a million and big suburbs.
Pray for the plumbers!
CVS had one customer elsewhere. Got my stuff and extra allergy meds and spray disinfectant cleaner... 30% off whole thing and then to Bank of A....one young person draped all over the teller counter, one in line and me ten feet away with surgical gloves. dropped my business on counter and moved way away, took receipt and left. stopped at mailbox outside Safeway...few cars! Went in and I think there were 15 shoppers spaced around the store. Wiped my gloves and cart and got some stuff now...meat for supper, organic milk which keeps until mid May, coffee, chocolate, and more. no eggs, tp, cleaners, detergent, flour or yeast. , but everything else. So I will not have to go Friday after dr.
Carried it in, dumped my gloves, disinfected anything not able to stay in garage a couple days, disinfected the car and switches on walls, faucet, threw my clothes in the washer! Then disinfected my wallet, handbag, card. This is exhausting.

Thanks for the start Chele. It is a tough time for all shelters.
Karen You have had a lot of rain lately. We were happy to get our 1 3/4" in 2 days but now it's nice and sunny and will get really warm this week.I am so glad I had surgery when I did too because they are postponing all ortho surgeries at TX Ortho or I imagine any other ortho place. In fact because of the virus some of their doctors are recommending their patients staying on home health 2 weeks longer so they don't have to go out.So my case worker is going to call my doctor and ask him if instead of tomorrow being my dismissal from home health if it can be an extension. We went to HEB and WM this morning and I am not ready for outpatient PT. It's a struggle getting the walker in the PU and then getting a scooter at the stores.HEB is at least making an attempt to keep their shelves fairly well stocked and they only let in a few customers at a time and limiting the amounts on certain purchases.Walmart's shelves are mostly bare and they have no precautions or limits in place. One lady in line ahead of us bought 6 dozen eggs.Between the 2 stores I was able to get most of my list including the 2 most important ones...Coffee and TP. LOL. The swelling is going down but my legs are still bruised and the knee is still swollen but it's going down some.I have lost all except 5 lbs of the surgery bloat gain and it's a healthier weight so I'm happy with it.Austin's mayor is all for putting a shelter in place order but Abbott says since 200 counties have no cases not yet.It wouldn't be any different for me since I only go grocery shopping once a week and don't plan to do any more this week except going to my surgeon's office in RR Wednesday.I haven't gotten in over 1600 steps a day but I'm doing laps with my walker and my stretches and the Versa doesn't give me all the steps of course with my hands on the walker.I'm happy with whatever I can do now as long as I can get in 1000 a day.
Kathy You are lucky you can get grocery delivery.HEB has curbside and delivery but don't have a spot open through 4/6.It's unreal.Walmart doesn't do either. We are supposed to be close to 90 Wednesday.Today's high is 82.Kenneth was able to get me a scooter for HEB so I wouldn't have to stand in line or wait in the PU. It went fairly smoothly today.

They just reported on the news that Adler,Austin mayor's may do a stay at home order soon.I don't know if that will mean anything for us since so far only Dallas Co has a shelter in place order.I wish Abbott would get it.I have been more than willing to stay home lately and that is saying something for me.
