The brand of elderberry syrup I have is Sambucol. Here's their info on Covid-19: Sambucol. Hard to know what to believe!

Also, forgot to mention that there is a concert on the local Fox stations at 9pm Eastern tonight. It looks like it has a variety of artists performing.
Karen, did you watch Outlander? It was an intense episode.

Kathy, I pulled this CDC website: "laboratory data demonstrate that 60% ethanol and 70% isopropanol, the active ingredients in CDC-recommended alcohol-based hand sanitizers, inactivates viruses that are genetically related to, and with similar physical properties as, the 2019-nCoV." Ethanol is "booze", but the rubbing alcohol you get at the drugstore is isopropanol." Everything on the Bath & Body Works site just says, "68% alcohol" and doesn't specify what kind. But I suspect its isoprpanol or there would be potential problems selling it in dry counties. Sambucol is the leading commercial brand and it's a good one. It works well to fight off the seasonal flu bug, so good to keep on hand. I heard about the concert. Great idea. I keep forgetting I can get early access to Outlander. I'll probably watch it tomorrow afternoon when I sit down from my normal Monday housecleanng and laundry.
Enjoy the chicken and dumplings, Linda. Do you have Amish noodles or biscuits as your dumplings? You will really appreciate your cleaning lady when she is able to come back. In the meantime, it's a lot of work. Good luck!

Thanks Karen! I guess the CDC is contradicting itself. This is also from their website:
CDC recommends washing hands with soap and water whenever possible because handwashing reduces the amounts of all types of germs and chemicals on hands. But if soap and water are not available, using a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol can help you avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. The guidance for effective handwashing and use of hand sanitizer in community settings was developed based on data from a number of studies.
Before I bought the Bath & Body Works, I looked it up and everything said at least 60%. So, it looks like maybe the CDC updated to 70% fairly recently. The page above says last reviewed on March 3 and the page you found says March 20. They really should update their other pages if it's an issue, but I'm guessing the effectiveness just starts to fall off after 70%. 68 will have to do since that's what I have.

I wonder if it's a moving target, Kathy, kind of like all of a sudden maybe masks can provide a barrier. Perhaps something changed and they realized there were different types of alcohol and they needed to be more specific. It would be nice if they would standardize. Most of what I have is also 68%, but if I have a little room in those tiny bottles, I may drop in a little 91% to up the % a little. I also checked my (limited) stash of ethanol and I don't have anything there any higher than a 100 proof vodka. My plan for last week after Osteo was to get a bottle of Everclear 190, but that trip, of course, got canceled.

Karen, it probably is a moving target. It could just be that for their latest study they used sanitizers with 70% and didn't test those with 68%.
