Becky, the mega church where they bussed in the crowds was in Tampa, FL, and Kathy's governor, like yours, has characterized religious gatherings as "essential services". How was PT today? I hope you had good weather for another walk outdoors. You seem to be making great progress.
The flowers in my avatar are tulips, Kathy. It's kind of hard to tell because they were all so pretty that I wanted to get a group shot. That's a really handy tool you have that can show confirmed cases by zip code. The hotspots sound like where you think they might be. That's probably good that you can see the spread on the map. That might wake some people up.
Linda, did you get all your cleaning done? How's the hand doing? Are you cooking or doing takeout this evening?
Sending good thoughts, Liz. It's FRIDAY!! Hope you'll have a quiet weekend and they will leave you alone.
I heard from Chele this morning and her head is better but she threw out her back again and will be resolving it without going to the doc or chiropractor for obvious reasons. But she is pretty much flat on her back and will check in when she can be upright again.
I have to tell you about the comment that a politics and history professor from Vanderbilt made on a morning news show. One of the hosts asked him how things were going in TN, since our governor had just put the statewide stay at home order in place. I am still chuckling over his response which was, "All I can say is thank God for Dolly Parton. She donated a million dollars to Vanderbilt for virus research. She's the REAL governor of Tennessee!" BTW, with those of you with young great nieces and nephews, you may want to let their parents know that Dolly is reading to them every night at 7 pm on her Imagination Library Facebook page. Our actual governor is doing a news conference right now and I can tell you that he's no Andrew Cuomo. With the CDC now recommending face covers, I've been online trying to find elastic and it must all be coming from China because what I can find on Amazon and Joann websites are either out of stock or won't ship til mid May. So I'm looking for options that use something other than elastic. I guess that will be my afternoon project. I had a pack of XL elastic hair ties but apparently I have used them all. When you see things on the news from Europe or Asia, they are all wearing face masks, so I guess it's no big surprise they are finally being recommended here. I would like to have something made up so we can start wearing them next week. Dale will do a grocery run at some point and I really want to go to the liquor store for my herb supplies.

got any rubber bands? That works . If all else fails you can sew a strip to use or use seam binding or ribbon, maybe even string. I have regular elastic? I might cut thin strip of it, it really doesn't fray.
AZ is #50 in testing.Right along with education funding, etc. But ASU bio research developed a test and can process 400 a day and is getting the robots redone to do 1200.
Saw that a test for antibody immunity is developing so you can tell who already had it. They hope you get immunity. Of course every year it mutates..has already. SARS,a relative, mutated to something we do not spread much. They hope for that.
I am trying to grow the hair out since the new person cannot get it right...it is long enough to tuck behind my ears finally. The finger in light socket Look is nit good.
Got shot three and done until Nov. probably will not go the full year on that knee because flu season starts around Thanksgiving and the $#@$ covid will be back with no shots yet. π·π·π·π·π·Wore my cloth mask I got before all this for bad pollen days. Washed it when I got back. It makes you want to fiddle with it and scratch your nose. we have disposables coming some day. the clinic now has chairs turned around so you have to sit six feet apart. I do not sit at all!
DH needed gas. He drives and stays in car.Since I had the mask, I went in to pay. Our area is rife with skimmers on gas pumps. He did not use kleenex...forgot. When we got home, all Outer clothes went To washer, and I disinfected car anywhere we touched and door knobs and light switches and faucet! this gets old.
Dog gets a bath later. Might try seeing a mask today.
No other plans except baking a quiche Lorraine for two. I did the pie shell in a seven inch pie pan yesterday. Trying out America's Test Kitchen for two book I forgot I had.

Karen, thanks for the start. The tulips are pretty. I don't know if it made the national news, but DeSantis signed an executive order after he signed the stay at home order. The 2nd order says the counties can't impose tougher restrictions than the state. That means the churches are now free to hold services. The pastor of the megachurch was arrested under Tampa's rules before the state order went into effect. DeSantis didn't think to make his order retroactive, so the charges will still stand. But going forward, the churches can do what they want. Unbelievable. The zip code map is interesting. They are cautioning against letting your guard down if your zip code doesn't have many cases. It is a bit of a relief though to see that my area isn't a hotspot yet. I guess I will look around to see what I have for a face mask. I have no sewing skills or tools and no elastic. I saw something about Buff headbands you can use as a mask. You can buy them on Amazon, but of course, it will take some time for those to get here. I can't imagine how uncomfortable a mask will be in FL heat and humidity. Chele, so sorry about your back and hope you're feeling better soon. Liz, another week down! Hope you get some down time this weekend.
Linda, the Florida curve shows our peak in early May and we go down the other side of the curve through June. So, I'm hoping we maybe get a somewhat normal July and August before flu season starts. It would be good to at least get out and get a few errands done. Interesting article on the toilet paper shortage: Toilet paper
Becky, how are you doing today?

Linda, I found one rubber band and it broke as soon as I stretched it a little. I will end up making my own seam binding, which a lot of the YouTube videos are recommending because apparently notbody can get elastic right now. Must be made in China. I did find a handful of the XL elastic hair ties, but I'm not sure they will be as long as I need them. Good that you had the cloth mask already. I did find a partial box of dust masks in the garage that I wear when I use the weed eater, and that will have to do for now. I did find some old quilted placemats that I am going to try to repurpose. Sorry your state is so far behind on testing, but you aren't alone, even if your are in last place. TN is now over 3K positives but the amount of testing being done is abysmal because of the hoops you have to jump through to get tested. They should be testing everyone so they know where the virus is. The county where Dale prefers to do grocery shopping only has 1 positive but they have only tested 57 people. Our home county has 6 positives but they have only tested 99. Even as large as Knox County is they still haven't even done 1K tests there. Everybody (except the president anyway) keeps saying the key is testing, testing, testing. Getting the robots involved is a great idea because they don't need PPE. I've seen about the antibody immunity and have also heard that they are looking at taking blood from those people with immunity and spin out cells to inject them into other people to build their immunity to the virus. You're absolutely right about the mutation, and I hope it will mutate to a less contagious version, but it could mutate in less positive ways as well. Thanks for the chart. Very helpful. Good luck with Micki's bath. I used to love quiche before I went vegan. Enjoy yours.
Kathy, I did hear about the executive order after the stay at home order. Apparently someone is pulling his strings. Pathetic! Yes, you have to be careful where ever you go, even if it's not a high density coronavirus area. I wonder if you could use a fabric scarf as a barrier. The buff idea is a good one and I have a couple of those already, so I might try that route. I'm trying to determine whether I should wear one into the liquor store, however. Could get myself arrested for attempted robbery. You're right about an actual mask being uncomfortable in your hot and humid environment, so going for something made of cotton would be much more comfortable and washable. I would see what Etsy has available. I have been having difficulty pulling up links in the threads and couldn't open the TP one. But I may have read it already because I've read several on the subject.

Karen, I went ahead and ordered one of the Buffs and a couple of other brands. Whichever ones get here first win and I'll cancel the others! At least they are advertised to be moisture wicking. The gist of the toilet paper article is the demand has shifted way more to home use since public places are shut down and people are stuck at home. The TP manufacturers that supply places like restaurants have a completely different set of supply chains from the retail ones and it's not as easy as you might think to get them into retail stores. I'm not sure about wearing one in the liquor store either! Maybe if you call ahead, they could have your order ready to pick up?

Moisture wicking will be helpful there, Kathy. I hope you get the masks soon. That wasn't one of the TP articles I read, but what you said makes sense, not just from a supply chain perspective but also the size of the rolls. My TP holder won't even hold the new mega rolls that some manufacturers are now making. So there's no way one of those huge commercial rolls would be workable.

no dog bath, made pleated Couple face masks For each of us. Would have gone better had I looked at full instructions again instead of the few bits I printed. a mask takes 9 by 14 piece of fabric plus two 6 by 2 bits for the sides which are kind of likeQuilt binding size when folded in half lengthwise. Had to cut thin strips from elastic I had..,the mask kind is pretty unavailable suddenly.
you can get two masks out of a fat quarter.
pattern.... buttoncounter.files.wordpress.com/2018/01/20180114_102142.jpg
they say bandanas work, double thick cotton over mouth and nose is what you want. So I guess a scarf could work. Those at least go farther around your face and over your neck. You want to keep moisture droplets of aerosolized virus from heavy breather (joggers) or sneezes off your face. Out of your eyes too.

Linda, I found a bag of scraps from a t-shirt quilt I have been working on (but not very hard) for the past couple of years, and found a couple that I think will make good masks. There is a segment that will make a good double thickness mask and enough hemline to make two ties. I'll post pictures after I get them finished. They will look similar to the photo you posted but just different fabric.
I think my train of thought has derailed and crashed.

Thanks for the start Karen.San Antonio mayor contested Abbott's order about churches being essential services. While the governor stuck by his order he did say he would rather churches have an alternative method to meeting in person but if they didn't as long as they stayed 6' apart it was okay.I don't agree but he didn't ask me.PT is always in the afternoon sometime after 1:00.It went well today. He tested the improvement on my balance and it jumped from 19 out of 26 from when I first started to 24 out of 26 today. He had to mark off my posture because of my scoliosis and he also knows that is something he can't address.I did some exercises for him inside and then he decided we would walk to the road gate and back which is about 500 steps. It felt good to be outside. He wanted to get it done since we were expecting rain.He may not be able to justify past 3 days a week more than 2 more weeks because he is limited on the new exercises I can do at home.PT in Elgin isn't accepting new patients right now and the surgeon's PT clinic is still closed. He did say I would be rather sore.I'm more stiff than sore right now so I'll see how it goes.
Chele I hope your back gets better soon.
We went to HEB this morning and although there was a line it went quickly and I found everything on my list.I read where WM will start letting one person in at a time and only allow enough people for 20% of their space. The rest will have to wait in line 6' apart.
Kathy The Texas curve isn't supposed to peak until end of April.Travis Co which includes Austin jumped 77 cases in one day with one more death making a total of 3 deaths.Doing better today.
Thinking about you Liz.
