This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ********************************* Trying to give Karen a break from getting us started. IDK if I will be back. Iggy is working and I have to pick up and decontaminate groceries and put them away. My back is still having some spasms so that may be it for my activity for the day.
A couple of parks with hiking trails had to close yesterday due to overcrowding. The media is hyping going outside while we are all under stay at home orders, so everyone is but not taking precautions. I will continue to use our home equipment to work out once the back is compliant and get my fresh air and sunshine in the backyard.
Jazzercise for me, Kathy. The weird thing is I have lost 3 lbs since I hurt my back. Groaning and grimacing must burn a lot of calories.
Karen, we got our seeds but Iggy hasn’t planted them yet. He is still cleaning out the beds. I find 2 NR95 masks that I had bought to keep grass pollen out of mu face when mowing. I never used them because they made my glasses steam up.
Linda, I am not looking forward to the whole grocery decontamination process. How is little Micki doing without neighborly contact?
Becky, our grocery stores have just implemented restricted occupancy, so I am sure we will have lines now as well. There were a few things on my list that I could not get transferred to my cart like TP and gloves. We will see what had to be substituted when I get to Kroger this morning.
Liz, take care of yourself.

Thanks for the start (and the break), Chele. I hope going to pick up the groceries didn't aggravate your back. How did the sanitizing process go once you got home? Did you wear a mask of any kind when you picked up the groceries? Was everything or a substitute available? When is your last frost date? Are you going to plant everything directly or grow seedlings first? If the former, getting the beds cleaned out now is important. They closed all our state parks over the weekend, so Dale has no place else to go except the neighborhood or up on the mountain where our lot is. Congrats on the loss. Take it how ever you can get it. Good find on the unusued N95s. Hope you won't need them.
Becky, after you mentioned Elgin's recycling being closed indefinitely, I checked Sevierville's and it's the same way here. Thanks for mentioning that so I didn't make a useless trip. Great that you already have the PT orders for the clinic. Hope they will be open in a couple of weeks so you can get some therapy that will help with a full recovery.
Sorry I was wrong about your weather, Kathy, but happy that you had an enjoyable time on the porch without people or barking dogs. Was this a Jazzercise day? Is the stay at home order slowing down cases? Not having people congregate on the beaches should help, but the error of people's ways will most likely hit this coming week, so the slow down may be a week away.
Linda, how are Micki's allergies doing, and how are yours? What's on the agenda and the menu for the day? I have the portable sewing machine sitting in the studio and will probably dust it off and set it up this afternoon, if I have time after I go out on the kayak.
Morning has involved cooking beef for Arya, doing towel and throw rug laundry, cleaning bathrooms and kitchen, and trying to convince the master gardeners plant sale steering group that doing any kind of selling before May 1 is not advisable, with the UT gathering ban in effect through April 30. I was a bit shocked that someone even suggested doing it on the original date (April 25), knowing that we don't have a buffer in place between our group and UT right now and could lose our charter if we get caught violating the rule. GRRRRRR....We have another beautiful day here--sunny with high expected in the mid 70s. It's close to 70 now, and the lake isn't very busy at the moment, so it will be a good day to be out. I'll try to ping Liz later to see how she's doing.

Chele, I tried out the DeMeyere and love it! Thanks for the recommendation. I just have to remember to turn the heat down when I cook my fresh mushrooms because they are a little well done. It did a great job on the scrambled tofu and O'Brien potatoes though. And it was so easy to wipe clean. I'm back from kayaking, which wasn't too crazy. However, apparently social distancing doesn't apply on the lake. One of the fishing boats I saw was a one-person vessel and they had FIVE people packed in it! And, was that outboard ever having trouble motoring along. It was a perfect day to be out. Dale asked me if I wanted my birthday present early and I am going to take him up on it. It's a new PFD (personal flotation device) Instead of the recreational kind that wraps around, it's an inflatable that just activates when needed. So much more comfortable. Even if I fall in, the lake is probably only about 20 feet deep and I'm a swimmer anyway. I'll probably start that back next month when (hopefully) the water warms up. It's in the 70s right now, so I could go in with a wetsuit and be fine, which I might do.

Chele, I hope all goes well with your grocery pickup. I had several substitutions on my last order and somehow, they always seem to cost more. It's not like picking things out yourself where maybe you just wouldn't buy something if the cheaper item wasn't available. I'm glad to have the service available though. Our trails have been crowded too, but I don't think they've shut them all down. There are so many people walking in the neighborhood that I feel like it's hard to go outside. I can go out on the porch, but I really wish people would keep their dogs inside. The barking is getting to me. I guess they're letting them stay outside more since they are stuck at home. Karen, the weather was a welcome change. I wasn't sure if we'd ever get another cool down this year, so even a mild one is nice. The bad thing about the spring breakers is a lot of them returned home to other states, so it won't just be FL that gets impacted. Some beaches are allowing people to walk or jog and others have closed completely. Florida's new cases went down Sunday, so I'm curious to see what happens today. Hoping it's a trend. I'm surprised anyone is even thinking about having your sale in April. Glad you're getting some nice weather. I wonder if the boaters were from the same family. They better know how to swim if they're cramming into such a small boat! Hope Liz is doing okay.
Waving to all and hope you have a good day.

Thanks for the start Chele. I hope your back feels better soon and you didn't strain it decontaminating groceries.Austin has the same problems with the parks. They will only close them for Easter weekend.I have heard people can't get TP from HEB curbside or delivery put in their cart so maybe they want people to come in to get it.I hit HEB just right this morning and found paper towels and Charmin TP. I couldn't believe they had TP let alone the brand I use. Some things HEB didn't have I did find at Walmart this morning and the other stuff doesn't amount to much so I won't sweat it.
Karen I am on a Facebook group that just includes my zip code and it was on there or I wouldn't have known either. We never use it but I hear many people do.I doubt the outpatient clinic will take new patients until after the stay in place(loose as it is)order is revoked.Home health PT was here this afternoon and he had me walk to the road gate and back again then we came back in the house for stretches. He must have wanted to get home early because he said he let me off easy.I can't believe they wanted the sale on the regular date. Some people still don't get it.
A man in his 50's from Elgin died of COVID-19 I guess today. We have had one other case but thankfully they survived.

.hey, I actually lost half a pound! Maybe that was my mind.
Karen great birthday gift.
read that countries that require TB vaccinations have had fewer problems. Israel is trying out a Japanese med for the virus that shows promise.
Cleaned out freezer and put same kind of small meat packets together in ziplocks. We never use a whoLe thing of meat. It was getting hard to find stuff or fit stuff!
Mopped kitchen floor. Disinfected counters, pruned part of a big shrub, worked on a new puzzle, walked dog. now waiting for locksmith because the security front door will not unlock every other time for ten minutes of trying. He can stand outside and fix or replace it. Kind of want to be able to get out if needed.
