This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. *************************************** Lots of rain, thunder and lightening last night. The thunder boomers shook the bed and woke me up. That felt weird. It was 78Β° yesterday and we have already hit our high of 52Β° this morning.
Drops are clogging the ear more. I am guessing the wax is loosening and expanding but not enough yet to leave the ear canal. I am not a trooper about pain like the rest of you. Ouch, I say, ouch.

Kathy, yes, that is an American goldfinch in my avatar.

.When we have to go out I dread getting hit by some fool texting. DH just left with a mask for his 6 week follow up with surgeon. Trying not to stress. Going out at all for really necessary stuff , you feel like an invisible enemy is waiting for you.
AZ now quarantined travelers from NY, NJ, Conn. the minute they deplane to go straight to their place. No idea how they check that.We have rich people coming to rentals to golf and escape.
no plans, just more puzzle, more housework, some yard work, reading, dog walk and cooking...pretty much the routine.

Thanks for the start, Chele. I hope your theory is correct on the drops expanding the wax to loosen it. We had heavy rain and wind about 2:30 am, but no thunder or lightning. We are still having a lot of wind. Our cold front must be behind yours because it's 65 right now but we're expecting frost over night. That may help our plant sale if the plants people have been getting at Lowes or Home Depot get frosted tonight. How cold are you expected to get this evening? We are only expected to rebound into the 50s tomorrow. Kathy, I wonder if you might be able to find a more comfortable mask made of some kind of wicking fabric that would be better in your heat. I didn't realize the situation with unemployment there. Were there problems with people quitting their jobs other places then moving to FL then filing? That's a shame that so many people are going to be impacted by a system intent on serving as few people as possible. In TN if you get any kind of severance package, you are not eligible for any unemployment. The first time Dale applied when he got laid off, he got turned down because he got a week's severance. But then the amount he would have gotten per week wouldn't have even bought our groceries pre apocalypse. Netscape? ? I thought it was long dead. I hope you have a little cooler weather today, Becky. I know it has to feel good being able to walk outdoors with your new knee. What kind of mask are you wearing to the store when you go to HEB? I guess Texas numbers keep going up because a lot of people there haven't figured out social distancing. How is Scooter doing with her allergies? Has she behaved pretty well for you post surgery? Linda, congrats on lower pollen. I'm glad you can dry things outdoors and still get enough pollen removed. It sounds like it's going to be a hot spring and summer for you. Sorry. I think we are going to do non-meat beef tips with noodles for Easter dinner. I found a package of Gardein beef tips in the freezer and have Amish noodles in the pantry. Did you veg peeler end up getting put in the wrong drawer and it's fallen under something? It's not laying in the bottom of the dishwasher by chance. I've had things fall out of the utensil basket into the bottom and I don't find them for a couple of days. The cleaning regimen sounds like a good idea. I really need to do something with all my loose photos. Most of them I think I want to throw out because nobody cares about them. Finches like tomatoes? I have more problems with stink bugs. They had a segment on the local news about how popular puzzles are becoming during the stay at home orders. You're trending.... Thinking about you, Liz! Our covid numbers keep rising, probably due to people not behaving. The Knox County stay at home order expires on the 14th, so I'm anxious to see if it will be extended and hope it will. I worked a little on face masks this morning. I have 3 old quilted placemats that were falling apart but I think I can repurpose them. They are interfaced, so that will provide an extra layer of protection. I may be able to talk Dale into wearing one with the solid brown side out because apparently the dust masks we have don't do much against viruses. We want some fresh produce, so I am sitting on email waiting for the CSA to open next week's order window.

Be sure you can breathe through quilting! No mask except the special ones for medical people can block virus...the idea is to keep you from passing germs when you do not know it and to block larger droplets carrying virus. Sneezes carry 27 feet. Tiny gas burn drops are not easily blocked...which is why it goes through cruise ship vents. Airplanes use HEPA filters which work much better. BUT A lot of those have fiber glass in them...which you do not want to breath through. DB, a nurse, says any mask beats nothing!

Chele, thanks for the start. Storms are coming our way tomorrow. It's hot, hot, hot here today. Sorry the ear is still being a pain and hope it clears up soon. I'm not a trooper about pain either. Karen, my solution to the mask thing is to just not go out for now. I can't imagine any mask being comfortable when it's over 90 degrees. There wouldn't have been any way for people to claim unemployment here after quitting their jobs somewhere else. You have to be laid off in order to claim for one thing and then it has to be verified with your former employer. It just wasn't a huge issue since unemployment was low, but now that many more people need it, they can't get it. I think it only pays a max of $250/week and is one of the lowest in the country. Yes, Netscape is long dead, but if you have an old computer with Netscape and a fax machine, you may be able to claim unemployment here. I'm surprised they don't require AOL! Have there been reports there about people misbehaving there? We had some early on, but I haven't heard of any lately. I think a lot of people are exposed through their jobs or family members with essential jobs or going out to the stores for necessities or to doctors. Our number of new cases per day seems to be trending down a bit, so I hope that continues. I think our state stay at home order goes through April 30. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to open some areas up at that point, but I hope they wait.
Linda, I wonder if cruise ships will finally do something to improve their air systems? It's been an issue for a long time. I remember one of my uncles getting the norovirus on a cruise a long time ago and it was pretty bad. I don't have a big dinner planned for Easter. I have some chicken, so will probably have that with a sweet potato and veggies. I got some Easter candy with my last delivery, so will have a bite of chocolate for dessert.
Liz, you're almost to Friday. Hope you are doing okay.
Becky, it is hard to keep 6' from people at a store. That really defeats the purpose of a mask if they pull it up to talk! Sorry your grocery pickups are so far out. Maybe you could schedule one for next week and make one more trip to the store in the meantime.

Chele Thanks for the start.I hope the drops are loosening the wax.I'm sorry it's so painful.
Karen Wow on frost overnight. Our high was 90 but a cool front came through with a little rain and it's down to 67.I took a short walk this morning and one this afternoon.Well they were more like strolls since I can't walk fast with the new knee.Neither of us have been wearing a mask in the stores but a county judge has declared an order starting at 11:59.Abbott still says it's not mandatory but I guess we will start wearing some kind of a mask.I did get a time slot for tomorrow for HEB curbside delivery and then Kenneth will go in by himself to buy what he needs.Scooter is doing a little better with her allergies. She has been amazingly good in the last 4 weeks.Right now she still knows she can't get on my chair.I will keep that up until I'm no longer in pain.Kenneth said she whined in the house while I went out walking this afternoon.Surely your stay at home will be extended through the end of the month.Texas is through 4/30.
Kathy We now have 23 confirmed cases in our little county.Texas Workforce Commission is a nightmare with some people having to just stay on the phone trying to get in.They have a call center now set up working 7-7 six days a week.I checked the app today and some slots opened up for tomorrow so I grabbed the 9:00-9:30 time slot.
