Good Morning ~ Feeling Thankful on this Good Friday! I am NOT thankful that this virus has caused such an uproar in our daily lives, nor that it has displaced our family Easter plans... but I am thankful that I got through another week of #stuckathome ~ #workingfromhome! I not only got through it... I DID IT! I made it over some obstacles that had me frozen - just thinking about... but you know what? I made it happen!!
I am NOT "thankful" that we lost Matthew, but he is not suffering through more chemo and trying to recover from surgery during this SCARY time! If he were still with us - he would NOT be participating in Easter! SO at some times I am thankful he is not suffering and dealing with this on top of that!
Meanwhile - I am not a "religious" person, so Good Friday has not been a "holiday" or "Holy Day" for me for a long - long time... but I wish a wonderful Holy Weekend to those that celebrate the "true" Easter season ♥ I am sad for those that usually enjoy the religious side of the weekend, as they will not be celebrating (the same way) this weekend.
I am THANKFUL it IS Friday!! I will begin pie crust tonight, and get the fruit out and thawing, to get the pies made for my friend. I was going to post on FB to see if anyone else wanted one... but decided not to put that much pressure on myself! LOL Not to mention the backlash I'd probably get from some folks!
I got up this morning - am already showered - dressed - did my hair - even put socks and sneakers on for the day!!
So let me refill my coffee and see if I can catch up...♥

OH and HAPPY DAY OFF to our Gabrielle & Christine! YAY! Put those phones DOWN and step away from the computers... Christine - time to pack your computer up OFF the DR table and have your Easter weekend! CELEBRATE the season - and having Linds coming home {{{hugs}}}
Jo: I will admit the employees being home NOT working are very lucky indeed! Yes, they could have been asked to use their time banks, but they were not... I will NOT listen to any one of them complaining when we get back to the office about being bored at home! Oh I usually go in at 8, so on my 7:30 weeks, I take 1/2 hour lunch to still get out at 4:30! Here from home... HA! I clock out when my time is in! Today I do believe I will clock in at 7:30 and skip lunch... we'll see what the day brings!
Oh speaking of which - better get the PC fired up for the day - be back in a bit ♥

Jo: Nice that you can keep up with your Mum VIA the app!
Sue: YAY for a day off!! I fear the same issues when the bank is back on track! Going to be a long ugly summer/fall with so many people trying to squeeze the spring vacations in around the ones already in place!
HA! And just like that - here in New England... We.Have.SNOW.!! UGH!
Oh dear... your poor DM... yes, glad Jim can still go very few days! Especially in TX! I owuld have thought they would have put a stop to that as well! But then it would be one more "job" for someone to have to do... last I spoke with U Dick he could go down to pick up his meals, but had to eat them in his apartment. That very well may have changed by now though.
OH Tonight is your paint night! WOO HOO!
Well now the President is talking about getting the country back in business in May... so MA schools could very well go back! LOL Since Baker has only closed until May 4th at this point! I think there will be some pretty disappointed teachers around here if MA is the only state back to school! So IF the banks are open in May - I will be back in the office!!
LOL I can't do pineapple on pizza either - it was one of Matt's favorites... I am thinking pizza tonight... have to drive to get it - but might just make the trip!

Good morning!
Thank you Carole for starting us off today. You said it so well...I am not as religiously oriented as well, but know that this is a very special time of year for those who are. Wishing those people the connection that they usually feel to the religious experience--especially in this time of separation from others. It is cold again, but we have been told (again) that it will be sunny next week so we will endure it for now. Today, in just a short while, I think that DH is going to run with me (not too far--missed our run yesterday). He hasn't run for a few days but has been pretty busy working on things outside (finishing up my car so that we have it to drive around this Spring/Summer/Fall)...he loves doing it, but it is hard work. Two of my webinars yesterday (not the interactive kind, the listen like it is a class kind) were SO boring. One was people reading from a card--you could tell! Uggh. The other was okay except that there were 4 panelists and they all kind of said the same thing for about an hour (that one was actually better than the other one). Then two interactive Zooms as well. SO glad to have today off!
I have started a list (actually) in a journal of things I am grateful for as a result of this situation. Some of them are VERY minor, but they are things that I have learned to be grateful for. Here are a few for today: I am grateful that none of my family currently is ill--I have some very elderly relatives and I am happy that they are safe. I am grateful to still have a job with so much unemployment. I am grateful to have a job where I feel like I am doing something that helps people through some of the challenges right now. I am grateful that it isn't raining today and that we might have some sunshine next week. I am grateful for a husband who puts up with my crazy ideas and habits.
Carole: Great idea to share thankful things. I saw a brief clip yesterday (it was a focus on mental health for our employees and families) where an expert said that just taking about one minute to express gratitude had a measurable effect on blood pressure, heart rate, ability to sleep, etc. I have to admit, I have (more than once) tried to think of how Matthew could have kept his spirits up if he was undergoing treatment right now...your description of your friend getting chemo makes me so sad! What a strong woman she is. I am SO glad that you are acknowledging yourself for your week!!! Do you remember how uncertain you were about if this could work for you? Of course it isn't your first choice, but you did it! Hey, I also think that making yourself NOT think about those at home getting paid, doing nothing, is IMPORTANT. I have to do this as well---it only makes us feel bad and resentful and we do NOT need that, right? So, the pies. I think that you still could have made them and then left them on peoples' porches---like curbside restaurants. But, I do agree that you didn't need that pressure to get them done. How is your DS doing recovering from her knee surgery? Wow, she is lucky she was able to get that done. DS25 works for that orthopedic group and they do a TON of surgeries--most are currently cancelled. I was thinking that you might take a half-day today? Not sure, but (for some reason) I was thinking that. Regardless, hope that you have a good day!

Sue: Yay for having today off! A good idea too, it sounds like. Does Jason have today off too? Hope that you feel good about the day and having the time to putter around the house. I made a recipe from the NY Times last night with red lentils---I actually had all of the ingredients on hand. It was good! It had capers in it (can you believe I had them? I bought them for a recipe that I never made). DS20 and I had some lean turkey keilbasa, sliced and cooked, that we added to it. DH had it with just the lentils and some tofu for a bit more protein. I will probably make it again. I did post it on Pinterest, but can't remember if it is on our shared board...might be on "Recipes on the Healthier Side". What are you planning to cook? Hope that you have a good day and you are sleeping in
Jo: Oh, I LOVED reading about the app to see your mom! What a great idea! I know that she has dementia and it isn't the same as someone with the memories intact, but I hope that it makes it better for you and your sisters. I am glad that you are all well....it sounds like your work is slowing down? Are you prepared if you have to file for unemployment? I am so sorry about this--I know that it can be so stressful.
Lisa: Looking forward to hearing what the song is for today. Have you been able to try out the repaired bike yet? I bet that, once you take it out, it will make the future rides easier. Hope that you and the family are well.

Christine: How is the knee feeling? Better, I hope. So, is today the day that Linds would be moving home? It must be a relief to have made a decision....I personally know how hard they are! We still don't have a date to move DS20's things back. He has started his online classes and, as we would expect, some teachers are definitely better at it than others. Haven't heard about DL lately...is she going into the office each day still? I hope that you have a good day today and that you soon feel the peace of having the whole family there.
Jenny: Are you working today? Trying to remember....sounds like your yard will be beautiful again. With the days getting longer and not as many late-day meetings, I am hoping to have time in the evenings to regularly work on our yard so it looks good for the summer. As soon as this is all over, it would be nice to host a get together of some kind.
Hello to Shelly, Nadine, and all who follow. Need to get moving soon and get that run in early today (before I change my mind--it is 41 degrees, brrr). Need to do some house cleaning today and continue on the organization project. My bedroom drawers and closet are done, now need to move into the other closets (boys' closets). I also need to work on the cabinets in our little laundry room. The kitchen cabinets are all good. See you all later--hope that you have a good day.

Morning Carole and all yet to come...I got up about an hour ago and have just been puttering and then a few minutes of FB surfing...Jason is still sleeping...he needs the sleep and he is NOT eager to get out and mow in this wind...he's planning on heading out closer to lunch when it warms up a bit, was 31° when I got up and now it is up to a "balmy" 40°...at least walking to mow he will be warm and hopefully he can plan to mow where the wind won't be blowing at his face....might need a new pattern but with 25 mph winds he'll need to do something to make it less miserable!
Time to grab my 2nd cup of coffee and catch up....
Christine...Jason and Lindsay have been season Disney pass holders for about 12 years now....they were going to stop for a while when Anikin was born but decided that he needed to meet Mickey too so he made his 1st trip to Magic Kingdom at 2 months old.....Aurora too!! They give whole new meaning to "fanatic"! I have to admit, I love Disney and if I lived closer and could go more often I would do it....you don't need kids to enjoy the magic of Disney and all the other parks....Disney has done a great job of growing and offering many varied attractions. I will say that Epcot and Animal Kingdom are my two favorites but I haven't been in a long time, about 13-14 years since Sarah did her internship in Disney....I can't wait to go back with all 11 of us like Carole and Ken did for their 40th....maybe I should start saving and spend our 40th in Disney too???
Christine....glad you have an "Easter break" and can enjoy a little down time just for you! Is DL getting "soft" Question...how old is "Queen Bee"....she sounds like she is about 60 and not thinking of the virtual/electronic options for all this stuff...heck, we email forms, scan and either fax or PDF and attach stuff to emails all the time....I applied for my new life insurance policy with all electronic correspondence.....the world has been coming to this for ages.... If she is young it seems odd that she doesn't think about this! I get it that there might be some people that do not have access to a printer/scanner and you can make different arrangements for them but the bulk of society today is "electronic"! Glad the Prince has got a "back bone" finally and making her wear a mask if she MUST go into the school...maybe it will make her rethink her plan.... I agree, she has "cabin fever" and just wants to get out!
Hi Jo...glad you got to pop in again! Glad you are sleeping well...always a good thing for overall health....I know when I'm overtired, everything goes in the "hopper" as I'm just too tired to care! Jo...we would love to have you join us for another Zoom....we'll have to have Gabrielle organize another one for us....all she needs is your email!! Glad Steven is surviving the store chaos and keeping up with classes as well. His store sounds similar to Shelly's with the sporadic deliveries. Heck, even Jason said the trucks coming in and out of his work are not always on schedule during this mess!
No worries on the challenge Jo...I know being at home and having to also deal with weather for walking you can't just get up and take a loop around the building. I walk miles every day all inside the building... Yes, Jason is loving the fact that the timing of this is spring so he can be outside...if this happened in January....he' be a basket case! Seems we are all doing that HUGE temperature drop....we dropped 40 degrees in about 18 hours!! UGH!!
Lisa...we had crazy storms overnight Wednesday....the thunder actually woke me and that rarely happens, I can usually sleep through any weather! I will say that 40° is not bad temp if the sun is shining and there is no wind...I actually love to walk with that "crisp" air! I heard on the news yesterday that all Broadway shows have been cancelled through June 7th but they said that it could be closed as late at July 4th.

Gabrielle...hope the sun soon shines on you...we are heading into a LONG stretch of rainy weather...7 of the next 10 days has rain in it...nothing like quarantine and a rainy stretch!! I love the "physical distancing" vs "social"....it is so true and I think that is what many are missing. So many people are isolating from everything and not taking advantage of all the additional electronic opportunities to connect with people. As this goes on for MANY more weeks I hope people take advantage and reconnect! YAY....glad you have today off as well!! Enjoy no Zoom calls!!
I do love the post Sarah shared...so many things that people don't think about.....I agree, that if you do need to go out to plan ahead so that you are not going out every day or so....plan ahead and shop for several weeks and if you are picking up things to help with the isolation...stock up!! We still need to be responsible when out and keep that to a minimum. Having come from a family of addiction and depression....I suffer from clinical depression, have been on meds several times over the years and have contemplated suicide a couple times....the struggle is real....unfortunately I passed that on to both my girls and I worry about both of them with depression (Sarah is on meds and Hannah has been in the past) as the isolation continues as well as the possibility of them turning to alcohol...I know addicts are struggling if many of the AA, NA meetings are cancelled....parents got thrown into home schooling and were not prepared for how much "stuff" could be needed to entertain kids 24/7.....
I don't think your opinion conflicts at all with others....but I also understand why people are out buying what seems "non-essential" and if it can be done responsibly like those of us grocery shopping every 3 weeks it is the best of both worlds...wear the masks, wash you hands, keep your distance and ONLY go when absolutely necessary, not every day!! When at the store...STOCK UP within reason, not hoarding....then stay home!! In PA we too hope to flatten the curve quickly and it seems to be starting to happen....I know our Walmart has blocked of clothes, toys, shoes etc but have left the sewing, home improvement, garden center, school/art supplies open....people around here are doing their part when out and it is great to see that many are FINALLY on board with the "stay at home"! Unfortunately we still have those that think this is "stupid" and life should be back to normal and we will always have those.....human nature is a tough thing to deal with and many can't see "outside themselves" if there is "nothing in it for them"....
Carole...WOO HOO for tracking!! Pre-tracking at that! YOU ROCK!! LOL, guess Tracy is forgetting you are "at work" even though you are at home! Hey, at least you see the bonus of staying home...less laundry!! I do wear my pants for work multiple times but not my tops....they hit the laundry pile at the end of the day!
It's funny Gabrielle...I have never been one to "drop by the store" every few days....I grew up with "shopping day" and have always done that...if we don't have it, we add it to the next shopping list. About the only thing that may need to be picked up when the kids were little was an extra gallon of milk...we would always buy 2 gallons per week and some weeks if I made something like a soup or pudding that needed extra milk we would need to stop at a convenience store to grab another gallon but that was rare! Now that it's Jason and I there are weeks we don't even shop and Jason will just grab milk/bananas on his way home from work when needed...since you can't have more than about a weeks worth of bananas at a time that is something that gets picked up weekly!

Jenny.....yes, it is tough for especially the seniors this year....glad Audrey didn't take it too hard but she too will miss out on things...but not too many! I'm hoping many of the schools plan a graduation ceremony for the seniors when this is over. I haven't heard anything yet around here but then again they just closed schools officially in PA yesterday! I'm sure the trip to KFC and dropping off to DFIL plus the "trip down memory lane" road trip was a good way to spend a little time together and get out of the house while still keeping distant from all! LOL...life w/o WWOW is a bonus but it does sound like this plant with the elk is nicer!! Love the "stop and drop"....that's what Jason does when he brings things to Sarah....he puts them on the porch and waves through the window! We have some businesses around here that are not accepting cash transactions....must be debit or credit cards. I rarely pay with cash so not an issue for me! Many have also gotten card readers so that sales people don't need to touch your card.
Carole...OOPS! Sorry for the "ding" from IT but it happens! Glad you fessed up to Crystal! In all honesty, they need to cut you folks some slack...when you are at the bank you are not thinking about all the stuff you take for granted...now at home even doing the same thing it IS different! You know for next time...not sure they will be as understanding if it happens again!! LOL! No, it doesn't seem logical to rotate folks in and out of Patti's office but maybe that is their way of keeping it fair that people are getting paid to be off and to be working equally, unlike you working and getting paid the same as those just at home??? It's a thought and does make sense in the eyes of fairness in the work place!
OMG Carole...that previous owner of the store is a PUTZ!! Hopefully Ken can get the vendors to put them back on the list...if anyone can get it done, Ken can!! Fingers crossed it happens soon!
Yes Carole...as I just said, any shopping still needs to be responsible when shopping and NOT in and out daily. But some things that seem non-essential to many of us might just be the lifeline that gets someone else through this time. If you need to do home improvements, paint some rooms....get all the paint in one stop then stay home..... I get why Tracy made 3 stops...I did the same thing last week but will now not be shopping for a couple more weeks. It's actually been kind of fun to find creative ways to use what we have in the freezer and pantry.... Glad the slippers are already better!
Around here greenhouses that only sell flowers are NOT open...only ones that provide vegetable plants as well....I guess since these plants will provide food later in the season they are "essential"...without the farmers and farm stands, many would be w/o produce so if all that got shutdown where would everyone be come fall when the produce is not available....Hanover Foods is in our town....they provide frozen/canned veggies, beans etc for many parts of the country...
Oh Carole...I pray this does not go throughout the summer....if you look at China, it started in December and it took 4 1/2 months to finally lift their "lock down"....BUT, their lock down started long after the virus had already "taken off"....thankfully in the US we started the lock down fairly quickly as the virus was just starting to take off and while it has taken many a while to finally get "on board" I think we will definitely fair a lot better and it will be over much sooner but I do see this lasting until somewhere between Memorial Day and 4th of July! Not sure the US is going to "set everyone free" until they see if China and other countries that are ahead of us are maintaining the low numbers as they start to get back to normal.
WOO HOO Carole....glad you finally have your water tracker!! Glad they listened!!
Ah yes...I know I too will enjoy retirement...no alarm and no packing lunches is what both Jason and I are looking forward to!! I agree Carole...only 2 errors for the first time doing it w/o your normal stuff....WIN! Sounds like being at home is not slowing you down at all! I'm sure it's nice to not to listen to the "circus" at the office! Yup...I vote for working through lunch today and calling done at 3:00pm!! I will say that if masks become mandatory at work, while I will do it, I will hate it!! They make my glasses steam up!
I can't imagine how hard Easter will be this year without both the boys and with Matt's birthday on Monday....I would have thought that Jaclyn would have been OK with the outside time but it is what is unfortunately!!
Jo...I have heard of many people using water to help make things more comfortable...especially leather...the water makes things more pliable and they will stretch for a better fit. I know Hannah used to do that when she had to get new grips in gymnastics...they were very stiff and needed to be stretched to fit each girls hand so when she had to get new pairs she would often get them wet before her bar rotation so that they would stretch and fit her hands! Makes sense and as long as Steve says they fit better...go with it! I love that the memory care facility is keeping families up to date with their loved ones....so cool! I wish my DM would have take the computer from David and Katie when they offered it...she could have figured out some basics and been able to video chat with all of us but she refused! Oh well!

Carole...I too have been reflective the last few days of this "Week #4" of quarantine....today marks the end of the 4th week....we got shut down on March 13th at 8:00pm....kind of ironic now that it was "Friday the 13th" now that I think back!! No, not thankful at all for the virus that has wreaked such havoc on our country but I am thankful for our health, our jobs and the health and employment of my children. I am sad I've missed hugging those boys, Dutch Apple last month and likely again on May 8th, Masterchef Junior, several paint nights with dear friends, sitting in the ballpark watching the boys play the sport they love and just the occasional dinner/movie date or other social things with friends. But we have survived....we have continued to go to work and both our jobs have done their part to make the working environment as safe as possible for us to continue to work. I am grateful for the younger employees at work that are also doing their part to work and go home, keeping true to the "stay at home" mandates to help keep me, Jason and all other folks at work that are at the "at risk" age! Zoom has been a new tool for keeping up with friends and FaceTime is always a blessing at my house!!
Yes, knowing Matt is no longer suffering through chemo or just the rehab of his surgery is a relief...having just had surgery and having cancer diagnosis would have put him in very high risk and this would have been very tough for him and the family. Hugs to you my friend....will be a tough weekend for sure.
While I am a person of faith and have not been to church in a long time, I am enjoying the ways churches and faith communities are trying to bring Easter holiday to those at home. The pastor of my home church in Auburn has been sharing recordings of songs I sang as a teen and young adult as part of the Folk Choir at my childhood church...still remember every word and the soprano part I sang on Good Friday and Easter morning....so many wonderful memories for me. Our church has been recording the sermon and lessons weekly and sending the link to it for the LIVE recording and for those who can't watch the original airing to watch on the replay. Easter is not the same as usual but it is still being celebrated!
It's funny, since I usually work Good Friday but was told to take vacation today it seems like a Saturday to me...now I don't know what day it is!
Yes Carole...I am enjoying this lazy unexpected day off as much as I would rather not "waste" a vacation day...I get it! It is going to be UGLY when everyone tries to schedule vacation after this is over if they don't have people take the occasional day until it is over. I am trying to make the day a productive one...I have my elderberry syrup simmering on the stove and I have done a few things I normally do on Saturday so maybe if it's nice tomorrow I will get out and maybe head to the rec park and walk the track around the football field. We actually have the chance of the "S" word next week one day as the overnight temps are just around freezing...but, we still haven't had the "onion snow" so I guess that's what is coming!
Yes, I am glad Jim can stop in to see DM if only for a few minutes. Because of her issues with opiate over-medicating she only has 3 days of meds in her apartment at a time per doctor orders. She also has a pain patch that is on her back that she can't reach so Jim or Annie has to change it every 3 days for her. Jim is the only one still working and he drives by the facility every week day so he has been doing it for the last month. Since it is "doctor ordered"and if staff were to do that they would have to pay extra for the "extra care".....thankfully they still allow it and it does provide a familiar face every couple days!
Carole...I would not hold too tightly to the President saying May...remember he was the one that said this would not be a problem and it was "only one case" and then 3 weeks later we had thousands of deaths and hundreds of thousand cases! Next he said we would all be back to normal by Easter and we still have not hit the peak of this crisis....for my own sanity I am thinking 4th of July and IF it is sooner I will be pleasantly surprise and a "happy camper"! Sometimes for me it's easy to think the worse case scenario and then I can celebrate the better outcome! We'll see! But I don't think MA schools will be back this year...some states are just dragging their feet....
Morning Gabrielle...are you enjoying your day off!! I hope so! Easter was my dad's favorite holiday of the church year....Easter is what the Lutheran faith is based on, the unconditional love of God and the gift he sacrificed for those who believed. I know if dad were still with us he too would be doing his part to continue to provide the message to those who believe. I have been thinking about that this week as well...it's his favorite week celebrating the church!
Enjoy your run today and keeping my fingers crossed the nice weather is coming as promised! OYE Gabrielle....not sure I could have keep attention to someone reading cards.... I will say I can't stand any panel/group presentations where everyone says the same thing in 4 different ways....say it once and move on!! I'm sure you will enjoy a meeting free Friday!!
Yes Gabrielle...Jason has always had Good Friday off...when I was at the Y for 15 years I did too but then when I went to work at Sheridan 2007 I was working and he was home. Sometimes if his work was busy he had OT but usually this became a "freebie" spring garden/yard day!! LOL, not sure I have ever bought capers in my life...not something I use. While I don't mind them when it meals at restaurants it's not something I would think to have on hand! Share the recipe please...I actually have some lentils and will have to "wing it" without capers! Today we are finishing up the last of the leftovers as originally planned...tomorrow I'm making Chicken Divan with noodles, grabbed the cream of chicken soup last week...I had also picked up the kale and cream last weekend planning ahead for Zuppa Toscana I"m making on Sunday! Not exactly Easter dinner but it's favorite of Jason's so he's a happy camper!
Time to strain my elderberry syrup and going to finish up the pizza from last night for lunch. Will get my table, easel, brushes and paints set up in the living room for tonight's paint night....can't wait!
Waves Shelly, Nadine and anyone else I'm missed! Hope all are well!
