Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read.Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. I don't think we got as much rain as predicted. The temp has dropped, but I can see sunny skies, so I think we are done with any rain/snow, even tho they are saying snow showers possible. It is the wind that will be bad, plus the temps which are chilly at 32. There was a lot of snow dropped up north, but not here, maybe an inch or two.
Pinky, lol, upon reading your post from yesterday, I guess I just duplicated here, what you had for your weather, too funny!! When it was just starting to rain yesterday, with the wind advisory posted, we took our bird feeders down and brought them inside, we do not want anything to happen to them in the wind. You mentioned going from a nice crowd at Easter, at your house to just you 2 yesterday. We were the same, and I have to say, I was so bored!!! For some reason DH was tired all day so he snoozed in his chair, so it was just me, which was fine in itself, so I watched the NASCAR race, that NASCAR had put on TV on Saturday, but we taped it to watch yesterday. It was pretty neat, as it was from 2004, so there were a lot of drivers racing in it that are long gone. Lol, I even made deviled eggs! (I have never made those, but came upon a recipe the other day and thought, what the heck, might as well.) Most likely, on your question of if I will go out with DH in his boat, I will not. Never had an interest in boating, even tho when I was a young teen I would go skiing with my parents in their boat. Just do not care to go sit in a boat for hours on end. I think to myself, what if I have to go to the bathroom? DH said I could bring a book to read, but no.
Robin, I have tried those no boil noodles, once, and I think they work out pretty good. I am a real stickler on making things exactly according to directions, especially the first time I make it. I know with cooking you can get creative, but with baking your hands are tied. Maybe I will try to make lasagna for just the both of us. I learned to make menu's for weeks out, back when right after I retired, and funds were short and I was doing WW, so between those 2 things, it helped to plan out the dinners for weeks in advance. The nice thing is, you can always adjust it, it is not written in stone. Plus I have that kind of time to do that. I hope you are not affected by the terrible weather you will be getting today!
Carol, I too am so ready for spring to come and stay!!! I know exactly the kind of bed your DGS has, our grands started in those too. This is a fun time in DGS life, as he is getting more and more freedoms. I don't know how we got started having ham for Easter. The same is true with turkey for Thanksgiving. Once in a great while I will make a turkey breast, besides having it on thanksgiving, but it is rare. Of course when I want a turkey breast, I also want the dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy and etc!! Yes, I was so happy how that worked out for DH. The thing is, if I would have went with him, instead of his friend, DH probably would have paid full price for it, as it was DF who suggested DH offer a lower price.
Gareth, lol, with me just talking to Carol about turkey and dressing, there you are with the chicken and stuffing, yesterday. Guess what I want now? Yum!!!! Of course, now we have the weather for something like that, with it being so darned cold! DD1 works for the school system. DD2 works for a promotional design company. They both have jobs that they love.
Anngie, no I do not fish. No interest in it, no patience either. I have penciled in, once this virus is over, where we can all go about doing whatever we want, to book a cottage up by Minocqua for a week, then DH can fish all he wants, and I can do whatever I want. That time can not come soon enough. Speaking of Walmart, I am going to try ordering from them online, for curb side pick up, this morning, and see how far out they are with the pick ups, seems it is that time of the year where I need to restock our health and beauty aides. I certainly do not want to go in the store, no matter what controls they have in place. Good luck with your trip there.
Marsha, how was your Passover holiday? I don't remember if you said how long you would be off work, so I guess I am assuming you will be back today.
I got up with an ear plugged up. What the heck?? DD2 messaged me that she is very sick once again, same symptoms as before. She was supposed to go back to work today, she is so upset. But the coughing is so bad, she can't control it at all. Her breathing is awful too. But she does not have a fever, so I do not think they will do "THE" test on her. But she is so focused on having to miss work today, she is just about beside herself.
Today will be leftover day, for dinner, with the ham and scalloped potatoes. Glad I can combine the two into one. Back at tracking and scaling back on the eating, this past weekend was the worst for eating. I have to once again, break the sugar habit. I did it a few years ago, so I know I can do it. Friday, after my weekly weigh in, I switched to the green program on my WW app. So today is the day to put my nose to the grindstone, so to speak.
Have a wonderful day, and stay safe.

Just finished my morning walk. Indoors of course. It was only 26º with a windchill of 13º when I got up. That wind is still really howling. We only got a trace of snow. It rained most of the day yesterday before turning to sleet and then snow. Luckily it didn't last long.
Karen, scalloped potatoes and ham sound so good. I'll trade you my leftovers of chicken and stuffing for your leftovers! I really though don't want to give up my leftovers since it seemed exceptionally good yesterday. DH doesn't care much for ham so I rarely make it but I'm thinking of getting a ham steak to grill soon. Sorry to hear your DD is sick again. Is this the one that just had surgery? I can't keep your DDs straight!
Coffee should be about ready. I'm more than ready for some breakfast.

I am back at work. Our virtual Passover seders were better than I expected, and now we are halfway through the holiday.
I don't think I will have time to go through posts from the last 4 days. I hope everyone is well.
Not much to report. I was going to make some masks but had trouble getting motivated, then I made one on Saturday which I wasn't happy with. I was going to modify it on Sunday but I couldn't find it anywhere, I took that as an omen and sat down in front of the tv. We watched the current episode of Outlander and we are watching The Hunters on Amazon Prime.
Robin - I'm struggling with menus for the rest of Passover. I was going to make salmon tonight but what I thought was salmon turned out to be cod and I don't want to make that, so tonight will be leftover chicken from yesterday. DD told me she doesn't like roasted potatoes. All these years I never knew that, and they are dh and ds' favorites so I make them a lot. We are almost out of potatoes, and you know what a crisis that is on Passover. Im' sending dh to the grocery store tomorrow.

It's 45 degrees today. Yesterday was in the 70s. At least, we didn't get rain. It's really a pretty day.
DH went to Walmart yesterday morning since our church's live streaming messed up. He wore his mask. He said some had one on, some didn't, but people seemed to be keeping safe distance apart and the aisles were marked one way. I had suggested getting a frozen lasagna, but I guess he didn't want to wait for it to cook so he came home with a roasted chicken which was fine. I was going to try my hand at making a mask, but DH brought home a few from the nursing department at the college where he works.
Fishing always seemed pointless to me. We have friends that go trout fishing all over the country. I guess the wife is a better woman than I because she got into it because her DH likes it. I wouldn't mind sitting and reading. DH and DS go every once in a while. DH has been some of the old sports on TV.
My ILs especially MIL didn't like poultry so we always had ham when we went to their house for Thanksgiving or Christmas. MIL never seemed to notice that DD and DS didn't like ham. They would take a few bites to be polite. When the ILs came here I always fixed turkey, but would get a small ham, too. Once MIL told me she couldn't help with lunch because she had never made a turkey.
Karen, sorry your DD is sick. It seems like she should be tested even though she hasn't had a fever. Getting rid of a cough is hard.

The winds are slowly coming this way - we may have up to 60mph winds, or so they say. Rain too. In fact, the whole week is iffy.
Karen, sorry to hear DD is sick again. I wonder, since it’s the second time in two weeks, if she could be tested? It might be worth it even if it’s to rule it out. i hope this doesn’t jeopardize her job - it wouldn’t, right?
I got to WM before 9am and there really weren’t too many people there. No direction signs here yet, but they do have the front doors gated off for one direction only. Probably 50-50 for those wearing masks. And of course, plastic petitions at the cashiers.
Gareth, now that you mentioned it, next time I’ll try regular lasagna pasta instead of oven-ready. I can’t see what the difference could possibly be between the two. The lasagna came out really good - but I think there’s a difference in the texture of pasta between uncooked and cooked when it’s being made.
Marsha, glad to see the virtual Passover seders when so well! Now, what happens on the last six days? I don’t recall you or Robin talking about special get-togethers for all 8 days. Does it surround certain foods/meals? I think I’m confused which is probably making you confused! Sorry. Have you read the Outlander books? I’ve read four of them and that was quite awhile ago. My intention was to read them all, but at 1,000 pages I’ll need to get into the right frame of mind.
Carol, I could probably go fishing once in a while as long as I didn’t have to actually fish - I’d be the one reading a book. I think your story of MIL not ever cooking a turkey is interesting! I would have thought everyone has - at least once!

Anngie- I read all the Outlander books and loved them. I've got dh watching the series with me. Every now and then something happens on the show that he makes a comment thinking he knows what is going on and I have to bite my tongue not to correct him. For the rest of Passover we continue to avoid non-Passover food items but there aren't any more gatherings. So basically my family continues to complain about the food. Actually dh doesn't complain but dd just adds it to the list of things to pout about being stuck at home.
Karen- dd has a bad cough? My coworker that came home from spring break to a sick husband with a bad cough caught it from him. The doc wouldn't test him but when she got sick with the same cough they tested her because she had been out of state. Came back negative. Her dh has recovered. Never had a fever. And he works at P&G who said a lot of people had that cough and if it was Covid19 I think we would have heard something by now. So all that by way of saying there is something going around that produces a really bad cough but is not Covid19.

Just popping on to let you know my daughter-in-law gave birth at 9:28 this morning. DS called last night around 12:30, they were admitting her to the hospital and he was waiting to be covered up so he could go in. I think I had just dozed off when he called, maybe not even, so I answered right away. Of course couldn't fall asleep, I dozed for an hour or so at a time, then woke up around 6:30, didn't hear back from him for a while, finally he said she was pushing since 6:05, but thanks to google I realized that it is not abnormal to push for that long. I somehow did not remember it being that long at all. Her name is Madison Shay. DS had to leave the hospital a few hours after the birth, she will stay until tomorrow morning, which is good because it is storming all day today. Bad rain and very, very windy. It is supposed to be a nice day tomorrow, at least not rainy. He has DS#2's car by his apartment in case he wants to pick her up in the car. Their plan was to walk.
Marsha, who doesn't like roasted potatoes! Although I don't think it's my DH's favorite, he eats it. I still have plenty of potatoes. I was going to make veal piccatta tonight, but definitely not in the mood for that. I don't know if I want to stop in this terrible weather to pick something else up, but I did want to stop and get masks, if they still have them. My kids want more.

Robin - mazel tov! So happy that baby Madison is with us now. When you have a minute to stop back let us know how big she is, etc. I assume mama and baby are both doing well.

First DS told me she was 6 13, which I thought was small considering her chubby fingers, but according to the bassinet picture she was 6 9. Mother, Dad and baby are all doing well. Their baby nurse backed out, which is fine, but by chance they had a name for another one who was quarantining at home, waiting for a job, and DS is going to pick her up in the morning, before he picks up mom and baby.

Congratulations Grandma Robin!!!! So excited and happy for you, glad all went well. I love her name!!!
Karen--I have never enjoyed going in the boat either and I really dislike fishing. You know my guys go quite a bit and every now and then they ask if I want to go. I decline always if they are fishing. If DD's family or either of DS's family are going and they plan to tube or ski I will go along just to spend time with them but I really do not enjoy it. I just feel so confined in a boat and like you said--what if you have to go to the bathroom. Yes I hope your DD will be okay 1st off with whatever she has going on with the cough and 2nd with her job.
Gareth--miserable weather like yours here today too---even still at late afternoon.
Marsha---all is well here, I don't think anything I posted the last several days is important to go back to read. Sounds like your DD is getting bored--I really don't blame her.
Carol--Yes I thinking fishing seems like a waste of time too---I sit there and think about all that I should be doing and it is not relaxing at all. DH and DS's love it, which I am glad that they can go do something like that to relax. Funny how I am the patient one of the family and can't take sitting fishing and they are not patient and love it. I guess everyone has a different way of relaxing.
Anngie---hang on with those high winds. We have had very windy conditions for several days
Just a miserable day here weatherwise. Only 31 degrees and very windy with an occasional snow squall all day. It feels like winter and I just want to crawl into bed with a good book. We are suppose to only get in the 30's the next few days and then gradually climb into the 40's and back up to 50 for the weekend. Can't wait!
On the topic of making masks---I do not sew. I had seen on FB someone demonstrating how to make a no-sew mask. I tried it and I think it will work well. You fold up a bandana and then slip a ponytail holder on each end and fold the bandana inwards. Hook the ponytail holders over your ears. I questioned if it would stay together and it seems to, not that I had it one for a great length of time. That will be what I use if I decide I need to wear it. We have tons of bandanas around here---think cowboys!!!! And robbers Too!!! I have many colors to choose from so I should be good to go----they suggest putting a coffee filter on the inside for further protection, but I didn't try that.
I was late coming on---busy with seed again. With the crumby weather it doesn't seem right to be so busy with this but just good to be getting deliveries completed so we are ready to go to the field and not so many people being in contact with each other when the time comes. DH has wishful thinking of going to the field the end of the week---we shall see!
