Welcome to the CLUTTERBUSTERS thread. We are a daily thread, Monday thru Friday, and we have a combined weekend edition Saturday and Sunday. We welcome new members and are a friendly, helpful and supportive group.
Our purpose is for support and sharing of tips and strategies in dealing with weight and clutter issues in our lives. Many feel that the two are often tied together. So, we will lend a caring ear, and hopefully give and learn tips to help all of us.
We want to remove at least 5 items or spend at least 15 minutes clutter busting today!
Remember, it didn't pile up in one day so it isn't going away in a day either. One organizer says: you don't have to stop everything to get organized, you just have to start somewhere.

Good morning,
Had a very busy day yesterday. I went through more bins in the basement. Now I’m into the little stuff, jewelry, kitchen stuff, just the things you would fin in a junk drawer. That is taking a lot of sorting. I have empty bins set up, labeled kitchen, bathroom, Amvets, bedroom. The Amvets bin is getting the most stuff, along with the trash bin. I have a socks bin too, completely full. Lots of matching in the future.
It wasn’t as windy as predicted, but it was windy. Did not lose power, but you could hear the gusts when they came. Yesterday’s temp started out in the 60s but dropped. It’s 35* now, sunny. The temps will only reach the mid 40s for the foreseeable future. Feels more like March, not April. That’s ok though.
I will move the few full bins of donations to the garage today. Also the empty bins that are taking up space. That should make a difference. I stacked books on the empty table. I have so many reusable bags from the grocery store and will probably use them for the books. Surprisingly I’m donating books I originally planned on keeping. They have already been read, not sure why I wanted to keep them. I should have 1/2 the basement cleared out by the end of the day today. Huge accomplishment. Will sweep and plan on putting the shelving units up tomorrow.
I know I’m going on and on about my basement cleaning, but I’m really proud of what I’m doing. I’ve been “retired “ for 4 years and it’s taken this pandemic to get my butt moving.
Enough for now. Later ...

Good late morning all. Joy, never apologize for all the progress you are making! You inspire the rest of us to get off our duffs and get our basements looking presentable!
I’m with you on donating all the books I thought I’d read again! 99% of them will never be read again so out they are going. And a note about those re-useable bags. DONATE them to your local food shelf. They have to pay for the paper bags they use; so they love to get the reusable ones and hopefully their clients will actually bring them back and reuse them. I’ve donated dozens of them over the years and our food shelf is thrilled. Ours also needs egg cartons because they have a local farmer or two who donate big bins of eggs, and the food shelf needs the cartons to distribute to the clients. And I ask for paper bags always if they are an option, then save them, and when I have 30 or so of them I take to the food shelf and donate. I also have ads for doing that on all my sale groups on Facebook! People have said they had no clue that the food shelves had to buy bags. Once when I donated, the gal mentioned that someone had posted about it on FB, I told her it was me!!! She was grateful!!!
I wish we were all closer together because it’s always easier to help someone else get rid of stuff because we don’t have the emotional attachment to it. You are inspiring me to get back downstairs today, and if I only get pictures of stuff to list, that’s a win!!! If I get more moved from the family room, it’s a double win!!
Not much going on here today. Stan is already napping in his recliner. He was up and down 6 times between midnight and 1:30 am! And I hear him every single time!
ok, I need to get dressed and get moving and get downstairs. Will hopefully report back with some progress. And I need to find where the next Wild game is on. I need a hockey distraction from all the political / virus news!
Have a good day and stay safe all. Will check in later!

Cathy, it was so great to “see” you. I only post from my PC. My phone is too small for reading much and my tablet is for my games in the evening. It does sound like you have been very busy and spring time always brings lots of outdoor work. The book you are reading doesn’t sound like anything I would be interested in. I’m into light reading at this time, that is about all I can concentrate on. I’m still in Florida and it is very hot so except for walking in the mornings and some evenings that is about all we do. I head to the store once every 4 to 6 days. I am anxious to head home and start some serious CBing in my basement.
Joyce, you are doing a great job, keep up the good work. I’m one that tries to donate books when I’m finished reading them but Bill likes to save them. He has 4 shelves in his office jammed with books. The books shelves are wide enough that he can put books in front of books already on the shelf. I did get him to donate about 4 bags worth to the library several years ago. Hopefully, he will do the same once we are home. Temps in the 30s sounds cold to me, it has been so hot here.
Ruth, I will check with food bank in town about the egg cartons. I don’t know how much fresh food they get, they don’t have a lot of refrigerator space. In October of last year, Connecticut started charging for bags, so since then I have used my canvas bags. I always tried to use the canvas bags but now really make sure I have them when I go shopping. What bothers me about charging for bags is the state gets the money not the grocery store. They charge 10/cent per bag. That can really add up over time especially for a family.
I went early this morning for my blood work. The place I go seems so efficient and the lab is right in the door so I didn’t have contact with anyone but the phlebotomist. Then I did head to a grocery store, the stores are much less crowded, as I guess people have adjusted to the new way of life. The paper shelves were empty but everything else seemed to have a good supply. I then went to Costco to get one item, again very few people in the store. They had lots of paper towels. They were set out on pallets in the main isle and almost everyone was grabbing a package. I don’t have room to store that many paper towels so passed them up, besides I still have 3 rolls and hope to head home soon. Hopefully the plumber will show up tomorrow – the tile guy said the plumber would be here Tuesday or Wednesday, just not what week. So frustrating!!!!

I actually got downstairs this afternoon. Got a bunch of kid clothes photographed and listed and more stuff photographed to list, and have another box of books ready to go and I added a bunch of adult clothing to the donation box for a local charity. Not one of the big national ones with the local pickup. And I got DH started putting all the new cabinet handles on. We bought them last summer when we had the bathroom work done, but never got around to putting them on. Now seems like a good time! Heated up turkey chili for dinner with a piece of left over cornbread.
Cathy, I use this site on my iPad. I’ve tried on my phone, but I can’t remember my password, and I don’t like reading most anything on my phone, text is too small. I’m hooked on my iPad for 99% of what I do.
Dottie, our local food shelf just got refrigerators and freezers maybe 3 years ago or so. And the local farmers with chickens have been donating lots of eggs. So happy to keep the cartons and donate them.
We just had grapple again! Was so hard you could hardly see across the yard to the house behind us! I’m so tired of snow and cold temps!!! I’m ready for spring and 70’s and I think I won’t even complain about 80!!
Dottie, hope your plumber comes soon. Did you take out a tub in the bathroom? What all did you do to that bath and what all are you doing to the master bath?
Ok, going to finish up listing a few more things. Have a good evening all.

Keeping busy in the basement. I opened a bin with Buffalo Sabres & Bills stuff. I used to go to a lot of Bills games, but that was years ago. How many t-shirts and sweatshirts do I really need. I kept 2 t-shirts, 1 full zip hoodie and 2 sweatshirts. Decided to hang on to the same number of Sabres shirts (original logo). Probably still too much, but I’ll tackle that bin again next year. The rest went into the charity bag. Another full bag heading to the garage tomorrow.
I came across a box of lock-n-lock containers, the kind that would work great for food prep meals. I must have bought 2 sets, they might have had a deal going on. Anyway, the pieces are still in their plastic wrap. I found pics of them on QVC site and will print them up. I plan on putting together a basket for the dealerships outdoor auction in September. I’ll build the basket around those. Everyone does meal prep nowadays.
I didn’t spend as much time as I planned CBing. I decided to watch some coverage on tv. I don’t get as worked up as I did a month ago. I’m interested in finding out how opening up the country is going to roll out. For me, I will probably wear a mask when I go places like the grocery store, work, church, anywhere that people gather - from now on. My new normal.
See ya tomorrow
