Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read.Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Temp is 32, and expected to get to 58, if only it was with out the wind. Otherwise a clear day.
Robin, I agree with your DH, about Trump saying things, not thinking it will be taped. There are so many sound bites of him talking, then denying saying he said it. We have steak restaurants here also, that are selling their uncooked steaks. Take care of your back, you will need it for holding that beautiful baby, and soon she will be growing.
Marsha that is a good question, as to where the food will be going. I had never given that a thought, as that is what I do with my wins, as soon as I have enough to donate, it gets donated. I agree, about getting up with the babies, but once I went back to work, that was hard to do. Unfortunately we will see a lot of places close for good now. I already saw it on FB, a Yoga place in DePere announced yesterday, after the latest mandate from the Governor, she can't hold out for another month. And I know for a fact, she ran a popular studio.
Pinky, these sure are crazy times!!!! I think for a long time, nothing will be easy. That is gone, thanks to the virus. When I shopped the other day, I noticed some shelves empty, and I know with this store, they are really good at stocking shelves, so what is not out there, is not in the back room, waiting to come out. I did not see the empty shelves for the meat that I saw empty at the other store we went to the other day. The store we were at the other day was having a nice sale on steaks, so we bought 4, 2 for today, and 2 for later. I told DH we should go back and get a bunch, for sometime in the future having a steak party, when it is allowed. He agreed so maybe today we will, after we run that money over to the kids.
Gareth, about the shopping in pairs, I think they want you to go by yourself, but going together is something we have done for a long while, so I did not even think about it. I see, at the store, what looks like friends shopping together, still families coming in together, so I am not going to stop going with DH till something is said. Thank you for not sharing that snow with us, our lawn service was here the other day, mowing the grass, that yes, did not look like it needed it! Then they had an attachment on their riding lawn mowers to rake the lawn. So I am hoping that means no more snow! Getting close to the end of April so that is a good sign.
Carol, did you hear what the press conference with your Governor was about, yesterday? Probably about extending the lock down. We had that petition going around here too for the beauticians. That one I signed. There was also one going around for tattoo artist's that I did not sign, as that does not affect me. My eating has been horrible, but for me it has been all winter. So now I am cracking down.
Anngie, sorry about the snow. You must have got it from Gareth, as it has not gone through here. Masks are to be worn here to, and my goodness, my face loves it when I take mine off! I need to get more masks, as the masks my DD1 got us, have long ties, so sitting in the car tying them is very uncomfortable. Need to fine some with elastic. I tried making a mask, with that video that uses a sock. That was a big failure, as the sock I use, one of mine, was way too small! Lol, the only think I cleaned yesterday, was my shower! HAHAHA!
I can not remember keeping tracking of the girls diapers, back when they were babies. What is that all about?
We have been ordering Friday night Fish take out for the last few weeks, and found the place we like is just a couple miles from us, so I put in our order there yesterday. DH picked up the order, we came home, and his little side order of onion rings was a huge one! Then I had ordered steam cod, with a baked potato, and a salad, but hold the dressing, as I have light dressing, so when settling down to eat, I see that they held the salad too!!! Oh well, I was bummed at first, but they gave me a nice slice of cod, so I do eat the whole filet, and half of the potato, with salsa on. I was really fully, but just wonder why orders can't be filled correctly.
We are running the money over to the kids sometime this morning. DH had to run to pick up a script yesterday and stopped at the CU to get that money out. We put the money in greeting cards, the kind that are blank. So I hope they set this money aside for when they need it, like new school clothes for the fall.
I slept horribly last night, so paying for it now. I could not get to sleep, the last time on the clock I saw was 1 am. Then I had nightmares and kept waking up. When I woke up at 6, I gave up and got up. I can feel the tiredness already. Going to be a fun day.
Have a nice day everyone.

Just a really beautiful morning here---already 42 degrees and so sunny and bright out. They have increased our temp high for the day as 60 now----yes please. I think I will grill steaks tonight.
On the diaper topic----Never had to do that with our kids. Our kids however have all counted the wet and poopy diapers per day. I think it is something new or has come about since our kids were born. Guessing it is some insight to how much or how well they are drinking and eating. Who knows??? Just like they switched babies from sleeping on their tummies when I had kids to sleeping on their backs now. Then of course they have to put them on their tummies while they are awake and being watched for tummy time. I still have a hard time putting babies on their backs to sleep but always abided by what they told me to do. I so worry about them spitting up and it going back down and choking them while they sleep on their backs. In a few years it will be different again right??
Karen---I bet you are going to make your DD's days with the money!!! Hope you get a chance to take a 15 minute nap to give you back some energy after your sleepless night. I rarely take a nap but if I am dragging I find a 10 or 15 minute nap is perfect. Either that or you may need to make another pot of coffee for the day.

Forgot I was going to mention something to Carol from yesterday and hooray for the 2 pager yesterday.
Carol---I agree that these places that are providing food for those who needed it never thought it would get to be so many people. My concern after how long of doing this can these places continue to afford to provide for so many?

Oh Pinky, yes, Tummy Time, my DSIL and I had such a big laugh over that when her DS had his first child. Who knew? And we didn't have Boppy's either. I think that fathers are so much more involved now, that it helps with taking care. My DH insists that he did change more diapers with our first, and only 1 with our second. I will confess, not only did I have a baby nurse, I had a live-in nanny at the time. She was a Mormon girl from California. I had an emergency C-section, and my older DS was 3, and very clingy. Of course I paid them a pittance compared to prices today. I worked up until about the day he was born.
Karen, I can understand them trying to work something out with hairdressers, but seeing as tattoo parlors only mean something really to the people who own them, it's not like someone desperately needs a tattoo. I can't stand them to begin with. The biggest problem with hairdressers is when someone has to lean over you to wash your hair. Maybe they can do something where people wash their own hair, or come in with wet hair. We are having a rainy drizzly day here, and it will stay in the 40's again, tomorrow it will be windy, but in the high 50's.
Pinky, now I have to go back and see if I missed something from the 2 pager. I think that the food banks might run out of food, maybe some of the people who worry about feeding the hungry around the globe can worry about feeding the hungry in their own backyards. there are donations coming in, but not sure how long that will keep going on.

Went back and read Carol's post yesterday. As far as the masks, they do make it hard to breathe, and they don't protect you from getting it, they protect the other people. The time to use it is not when you are driving in your car, or walking someplace that you can stay at least 6 feet away from people, but when you go into a store where there might be a time where you are a bit closer. The ones they sell do make it hard to breathe. My cleaner was making them if you gave them the material. I had a batch of old dress shirt that were clean, and don't fit DH any more, so I had them use those. They delivered them yesterday. I put one on, and it is such a difference? I can breathe, and my glasses don't fog up.

Karen, have you ever air fried fish? Both DH and I love fish that way. I don't see how that would work for most hairdressers since so many work in a salon with several other stylists.
Robin, what's a Boppy? I'm thinking maybe a pacifier. I hate seeing babies with them in their mouth for a picture. At least unplug therm for a picture! Babies don't have to have something constantly in their mouths. What's even worse is seeing older kids running around sucking on them.
Pinky, enjoy your nice day and your steaks later!
Anngie, how much snow did you get overnight?
I rode along yesterday with DH to get gas in his car. $1.18 a gal! With fuel rewards we had filled the car for $9.22! We noticed all the traffic. It seemed even more than normal. Where was everyone going?! Or were they just driving around to get out of the house?
Governor now has ordered that schools remain closed through the end of the school year. Every day many new cases and more deaths in our state. When will it level off?
I've already walked indoors this morning but I'm looking forward to walking outdoors again later when it's in the 60's. Just wish it wasn't so darn windy but at least it's a warm wind. Worst part of walking when it's windy is walking into the wind. It's like hitting a brick wall.
Gotta get busy doing something. I feel guilty sitting here while DH is steam cleaning the kitchen and both bathroom's floors. I washed the bathroom rugs the other day. I have the kitchen rugs washing now.

Gareth, a boppy is a special round pillow they use when nursing. It's like a donut. There are more things now than you can imagine, and they got so many gifts already that they have too much. I think they will need a storage locker for extra stuff.

You definitely would not believe what they have now. Sorry I can't post pictures. They have this thing called dock-a-tot, that you can put on your bed so that you don't have to worry about the baby rolling off, or you rolling on top of the baby. And then there was another kind of thing, all of these different people have bought them, where is is like a large circular pillow that you can rest the baby in on a couch or something. DS Facetimed me today while he had her in that and she was awake.

We woke up to another inch - far from what was predicted. And of course, it’s all gone now.
I’m laughing here about all the baby things and terms being used today! I remember it all when my first grandson was born 2 1/2 years ago. “Tummy time” I thought was the funniest. Imagine giving a name (and time) to something that has always been common sense to do! And, yes, the boppy! And then, counting all the pees and poop! I’m sure we all took notice but did we actually count?! I didn’t. What’s funny, too, is we probably did things that OUR parents just shook their heads over, right!
Pinky, I feel the same way about babies sleeping on their backs, however, the professionals say it’s preferred. I guess I see it both ways.
Robin, I wasn’t clear, for all the reasons you mentioned for wearing a mask (now mandatory) shouldn’t this have been the case three weeks ago when positive tests and deaths were soaring?
Karen, I’ll bet you and DH made your DD’s day today! How generous!
Carol, I agree, how long will this go on till either people or the country breaks. Food pantries are doing the best they can, but for how much longer.
Still reading “Little Fires Everywhere”. I think it’s starting to pick up a little.

Our DD had a boppy. One thing they said was a life saver was a clip so you could clip the pacifer to the baby's clothes so it wouldn't fall on the floor. DGS used a pacifer for a while, then started sucking his thumb. I always thought as long as the baby peed and pooped everything was okay. DD said her MIL worried DGS wasn't pooping enough and was constipated. He seemed to be okay to DD because he didn't seem to have any discomfort. I think this was after he started eating baby food so they gave him some prunes mainly to make DMIL happy. The laying the baby on his back with nothing in the crib was strange, too. Our DGS had to wear one of head helmets for 6 months and I think it had something to do with laying on his back. I remembered how inexperienced I felt when DD was first born, so we knew DD and DSIL were feeling the same way. We did what they asked us to do. We made some suggestions and left it to them to follow them or not. DH was in the delivery room when both of our kids were born, he changed diapers, bathed them, the whole nine yards. His mom would go on and on about him doing things. I know his dad and mine, too didn't do much of anything when their kids were babies except bring home the money. Really, both played with our kids, but didn't do much when it came to caring for them.
Last time we looked, we hadn't gotten our check. We don't know what we will do with it. We are really blessed that DH, DD, DSIL, DS and DDIL all have jobs and are continuing to work. We will probably give some to our church for food or whatever needs people have. There is a non-profit, North Texas Food Bank that serves several north Texas counties. They are doing food distribution here. Yesterday the National Guard helped give it out.
Our governor said schools are out until next August which wasn't a surprise. He wants the state to re-open. Starting Monday, state parks will be open and retail stores can have curbside pickup. I thought some were already doing this. At risk people should shelter in place and everyone should still do the 6-foot thing. It makes me a little uncomfortable since the virus is new and not much is known about it. I think the deaths in the nursing homes are just terrible. I just can't imagine not knowing your mother or father died because the nursing home was keeping the deaths a secret. Just awful. Masks are not required. I can't remember what else. I can hardly stand to listen to Trump because he lies so much. I usually mute the TV and then let Lester Holt or one of the newscasters tell me what he said.
DH and I finished his birthday cake this evening. In addition to having more sweets lately, I have not been getting it my walks. I'm going to try to do better this week. It is supposed to be warm and pretty.
Karen, I imagine your DDs were thrilled. Robin, I love hearing about your DGD. So fun!

Good Sunday morning. 42 here now, not going to get very warm, with it staying in the 40's today. Tomorrow it will get warmer.
Pinky, we got to 62 yesterday, DH was going to grill steaks outside, but decided to use the indoor grill as it was very windy here. Am getting tired of having it that way, now that it cooled off, the wind died down. How was your steaks? Ours were fabulous! We bought them the other day, and are going back there tomorrow to stock up on them, as they were on sale, and what with they are warning us there might be a beef shortage, we want a bunch of those steaks in our freezer. I guess you could say I will be hoarding beef!! Yes, the girls were happy with the money, DD1, who had the bariatric surgery went out to Target right away and bought a Fitbit. DD2 said she is saving it for the huge party we are all going to have at her house, when the restrictions are lifted.
Robin, I have heard on FB there are beauticians that have gone underground. They are calling it Prohibition. Funny! Since our Governor kept the mandate till May 26th, since then there have been Sherriff's around the state asking the Governor to loosen the restrictions, some saying they won't enforce them. From what I see on tv news, it sounds like a lot of the country is getting really tired of it, From what I read, the stylist's would have a mask on, and gloves, so that is how they could work on the customer. I have to say, even though my hair needs a stylist so bad, I think I would be nervous that first time.
Gareth, no we have not air fried fish. How do you do it, do you put a breading on it, or do nothing? Right now I am trying to eat within the WW purple plan so I do not want to do any breading. The hair salon would do 1 employee, to 1 customer. I don't see that being a big help to the salon, financial wise, but who knows? Also, it would probably take a month or 2 to get thru their customer base, to bring everyone up to speed on their hair. Lol, I never feel guilty if DH does some of the apartment cleaning. Yours is a different situation than ours, since we are both retired, and he really does not do anything, I feel he can help out here. We both make the mess, we can both clean it up.
Anngie, glad for you that the snow melted. Now is not the time to have to look at it for days on end. I agree about the masks, confusing as how weeks ago they said we did not have to wear masks. It may have to do with how the country got behind the homemade masks. In that way, we have left alone, the masks for the medical field. What ticks me off is, when we go somewhere and have our masks on, most other people do not have one on. I just want to go up to them and say Thanks for not caring! Yes, DD's loved getting the money, DD1 who had the bariatric surgery went right out to Target and bought a Fitbit. She has been wanting one forever. DD2 is saving theirs for the big party we are planning at her house, when the mandate has been lifted. We have to make up for Easter, and if our Governor holds to his extension, Memorial day holiday celebration.
Carol, when we heard we were going to be getting that money, I thought about donating it to a food bank or something like that, here in our town, then I thought of the kids. Yes, they are all doing good, with not suffering as so many people their age are, so we are all lucky that way, but it seems with my kids something always happens to throw them a curve ball. When we first gave them the money they said, but we don't need it, and I said fine, then save it! Save it for school clothes for the kids for fall. I know we do not talk politics on here, but I just have to say, you are right about the lying! You can not believe anything he says, then too he is such a braggart! OK....I am done.
While out dropping of the cards yesterday morning, we went by DB house, to see how the guys were doing on it. Some trees and limbs were gone, where they want to expand the garage. All the curtains were off the windows, so we could see into the house. (We stayed in the jeep, but I said we should go peek in the windows, but didn't want the police called on us!). We could see thru the bedroom window that the wall between the bedroom and kitchen which is on the other side of the bedroom was knocked out. Then I REALLY wanted to go window peek!! We received the the remainder of the homeowners insurance yesterday. All I have to wait on now is the final water bill.
Nothing going on here today, just watching an old NASCAR race we taped the other day, then the NASCAR Irace. Chicken in the air fryer for dinner. My first 2 days on the Purple plan was good. I have the whole week all planned, so it shouldn't be too hard to do. My problem is with wanting to loose weight I have to have some kind of physical activity. So that is where the walking the laps in the apartment come in, since the weather is not the best lately to walk outdoors. It is different than walking outside or on a treadmill; I walk 30 minutes in the house, but only walk a total of 1/2 mile. That 30 minutes outside or on a treadmill would be at least 1.5 miles.
Time for some coffee. Have a very nice Sunday everyone.

Karen, anything you're doing to move at all is better than nothing. I don't ever feel guilty about DH cleaning since he lives here too. I just feel I should be busy doing something too instead of just sitting. You can air fry fish with or without a coating. Both ways are good. I've used an air fry coating for fish that added minimal points. Copying what my hairdresser put on FB last night "I love my clients, and love my coworkers, but I cannot get on board with any petitions asking for salons to open up in the next couple of weeks, even with a mask and gloves. In my opinion, it cannot be safe. I love people too deeply to be risking their safety, whether it be my personal family or my clients. I’d rather do all I can to be safe at home and ride this thing out a little longer. I know we love each other, and I know our hair plays a big role in our well being, but in my opinion, we are not essential... I’m not looking to fight with anyone- I know this is a touchy subject for so many people and I know your opinion matters too... 💙 hugs to all my peeps 💙"
Talking about babies I was going through things of my Mom's yesterday. She'd saved the bill from when I was born. My Mom was in the hospital for 8 days after I was born which must've been the norm then. The total bill was $51.85 Each day was $3.50 for her room. $1.25 a day for the nursery. Use of delivery room was $5 I don't know what to do with all the pictures, greeting cards, letters, report cards etc that were saved through the years. Some were mine, my parents and grandparents. I'm ready to put them all back in the tote and let DS deal with them after I'm gone. As it is he has his work cut out for him when something happens to us.
Not going to be quite as warm today as yesterday when it was in the high 60's. It was so darn windy. Really fun walking into the wind. It always seemed it was blowing the worst going uphill too. After our walk I went and picked up apple, pecan chicken salads from Wendy's. Always love their salads. Can't wait for their berry one to be in season again too.
Today I'm making split pea soup in the crockpot. DH always said he didn't like split pea soup but he loves this. It's different from other recipes. It also has barley and lima beans in it.

I somehow managed to delete a whole post. I guess maybe it wasn't so interesting.
Anngie, I think that they were recommending people wear masks, but weren't requiring it. Now they are requiring it if you are anywhere that it is impossible to maintain social distancing. Also, they are trying to enforce it with a higher fine. Let's see how that works out.
Gareth, good for your beautician, she realizes what is smart. The salon I go to is large, so they could still have quite a number of people in for haircuts without anyone being that close, however the stylist would have to be close. The other thing is that what people want more than cuts is color, and there is no way to do that without being close. I think if the stylists had to wear a mask all day, they wouldn't really like it, and I do not envy the workers in any food stores and restaurants wearing it all day long.
Karen, I am curious to know what your DD's thought of the money you gave them. I guess what they inherited from your DB came at a great time too. I hope maybe they didn't spend all of it yet.
We had steak here too, it was from Blue Apron, and it was a premium meal that they charge extra for, but it was worth it. There were 2 nice sized strip steaks. Sometimes they do have a steak dish, but it is 2 very small steaks. The sauce was great, and one I could easily duplicate, and there were very nice special mushrooms that came with it that I could also easily make again. This one was a collaborative effort. I prepped and made some of it, and DH finished it up because he was experimenting with a different method of cooking the steaks. So, he saw that following these recipes is not such an easy task. he was so proud of himself though.
Carol, I really think that it's possible they should have been a little more discriminating when handing out the stimulus checks, although people are getting $600 per week extra unemployment. For some people, their unemployment would equal their regular salary, or even more. Whoever figured this out did a terrible job. And take people like those who work as house cleaners, restaurant workers, in hotels, many of whom we know really don't file taxes and will end up with nothing.
