Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read.Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. 34 right now, clear but rain and thunder storms expected for the afternoon, with what is becoming normal; wind.
Gareth, yes, anything I can do for moving, will help. That is why I am happy that you are the one that gave me the idea of walking around the house. I remember back a few years ago, you talking about doing laps in your basement; that got me started, at the house doing that, which lead to, when the weather got warmer, to walk outside, which lead to walking miles and miles, and loosing over 30 pounds. So thank you for that!!! Lol, I remember when I started doing that at home, and walking up and down the basement stairs was part of it, no way could I have that as part of my laps now!! I agree with your stylist. No matter how many ways you take to protect yourself, you still, as a stylist, have to get in your customer's face, while working on them! I can just imagine how busy they will be once the mandate is lifted. The weather guy just mentioned for the next couple days we will be having wind. So annoying!!
Robin, the girls were so surprised! And happy!!! They both said they will be saving it, but I see on FB from yesterday they both did spend some of it, DD1 who is the one loosing all the weight, bought a Fitbit. DD2 bought a bigger bird feeder station, and more bird seed. Then they are saving the rest, and yes, they still have money from my DB. The steaks we bought at the store ended up being so big, we decided we need just 1 for the both of us. They are beautiful, tender, and only $14. And of course thanks to my father, from years ago, teaching DH how to cook a perfect steak, it really does turn out excellent. I think after this Friday, golf courses here in the state will be open, but with the restrictions that your courses have. All they can do is just go walk a course and play. The fees have to be prepaid, I think online. Baby steps.
Carol, I bet your hair dresser is not what would be considered underground, right now. I think underground now means they are not supposed to be working at all, with a salon that has maybe 2 or 3 chairs, and stylists. I do not know about licensing procedures in your state, but I do know there are stylists around here that for years have just had 1 little room in their house where they work on ladies. I am almost certain they do not have any licensing. It is funny about DB house, as it kind of went out of my mind for awhile, with getting so involved in ways to shop, and all, with the virus, his house was just not front and center in my mine. So now I will take rides over there every so often, just to snoop. I am glad that I am done for now with getting rid of so much of his paperwork, with having whittled it down to 2 smaller totes. I know I can go through those, and get rid of more now.
Anngie, yes they were so surprised! I was happy that we had decided to do that. It is one thing to hear from the government that they would send out a stimulus, right away you think of the things that either needed to get paid, or something that is needed to be bought and had been put on hold. When all of a sudden you are given that amount of money, now that is a nice surprise. I mentioned to Robin what they spent some of it on, and are saving the rest. About DB, yes I think the water bill should be the end. I can't imagine having to file taxes for him for this year, as he died last year, and all of his money was put in all of our names then. (Of course I could be very wrong about that.) I am so antsy to take a nice long ride, but then I want it normal, to wherever we go, so we just stay home. I read a comment some guy made last on FB about going shopping at the store I usually go to, saying he was nervous shopping even though there wasn't a lot of people there, I can really relate, as people just do not do the social distancing, that at this point, I do not want to get the virus, as I am happy, knock on wood, that we did not get it.
Hi Marsha. Hope your weekend went well. We both ended up yesterday not feeling well. DH back gave him fits, where he had to take 2 pain pills. He is hoping it is not a kidney stone. Then after lunch, I was sick to my stomach. That was right after I tried a WW recipe for chocolate cookies. They were horrible! Maybe the applesauce I used, was old, so I will throw it out today.
This is so weird not to have any kind of appointment or something, on our calendars this week. DH talked to DD2 to see if he could bring his boat over to their house this weekend to have the kids help him clean it up. She thinks that should be fine, as it will be outside, he just has to remember we can't hug the kids, like we normally would do. I hope he can find some area around here that will have open boat launches, when fishing season opens in a few weeks.
Have a nice day everyone.

Just came in from walking. It's nice and sunny though cool around 50º Wind is picking up again. Waiting on coffee to brew so I can have breakfast. Word came down this morning WW will stay closed through May 30. That came as no surprise to me. Sad day remembering my oldest nephew. He killed himself four years ago today. He was the last person you'd think that would ever do that. His Dr thinks meds he was taking after being hospitalized for infection in his leg caused him do to it. He was only six months older than my DS. Not looking forward to going to WM later but I have no choice.
Karen, our governor last Fri ordered golf courses closed here.

Good Morning Friends! I see I never made it on yesterday. I watched our church service on FB and I must have thought I had been on this thread too. I realized last night I never posted but decided to just wait till this morning. It has been a busy morning already with this nice weather we have. DH got done planting wheat on Sat. and went right to planting corn. He planted yesterday and out there again today. DS's are digging the ground in prep for planting and taking care of calving. We are half way done with that and things are going well. So much better with this nicer weather and not the wet conditions for everything.
Gotta run---I need to take care of some seed for a customer.
I hope to stop back later!!!

Here's my big news - my son got engaged. Of course it's not a surprise, we knew it was coming, but they are very excited. I don't know when they will get married. I didn't ask. Does that make me a bad mother? I feel like they should wait a bit, they bought a house, he has a new job, and an engagement. It's a lot of stressful changes happening very quickly. He starts his new job today but he is studying for his licensing exams so he is still at home working in his office.
I finally got a few things done yesterday. I made a list so rather than having Sunday night come and I didn't do anything, I had a list of things I wanted to do. I made another mask, this one pleated, and dh said he liked the original prototype better and he's keeping that. DD doesn't want me to make her a mask. She said she will use the disposable ones. So I guess I don't need to make anymore. The one I made yesterday is a bit big for me but I can shorten the elastic and it will be fine.
I decided to see if I can get flannel online to make a baby blanket and I can't find anything. I thought I could order online from JoAnn's but everything I liked is "not available to ship" so I guess I'll have to wait until after the crisis passes and the store restocks. I hope the baby is still a baby by then! I ordered a Brita water pitcher for my mother as she has run out of bottled water and can't find anyone to get it for her who can lift the case and bring it into the house. I think she will find this to be easier and she always drinks the bottled water out of a glass anyway.
Gareth so sorry about your nephew. What a tragic loss that must have been.

Gareth, I’m so sorry about your nephew. I’m sure the pain never goes away - it just becomes more distant, I guess. Were he and DS close? I sure hope WW can survive this - not all companies can. Do you get the feeling anyone at WW is worried?
Karen, I hope you and DH are feeling better today! I made cookies yesterday too, using a cake mix (yellow) plus three other ingredients. I saw it on Pinterest and thought I’d try it. So-so I think! I might try it another time using a chocolate mix. It might be better - or even a spice mix. I’ll also try using applesauce instead of oil. It won’t be soon, though. I know, I looked on my calendar - and nothing! So odd. My only concern is my cortisone shot (procedure) might be postponed again. We’ll see.
Pinky, wow DH is sure making headway! Wasn’t it so wet last year it was hard to plant? Babies still being born I take it!
Marsha, congratulations! If nothing more, this will at least give you something to think about other than the Coronavirus. I’ve been wanting to weave the seat of a little rocker I have but can’t find fabric or go to Joanne’s either. I have the time but no fabric! Hopefully I’ll be able to do it later this spring.

Gareth, I am so sorry about the memories of your nephew. Interesting you said that about the medication. Someone on another thread, who was having back problems, mentioned a particular prescription that her doctor gave her, a pain pill. When I googled it, figuring that I would ask my dr about it, there were all sorts of warning about suicide, so I nixed that right away. I am also not surprised about WW meetings being delayed. I know once they start, they will probably be packed, as long as people are back to work and have money to spend.
Karen, I do hope your DH does not have a kidney stone, I hear those are extremely painful. I hope you are feeling better too. I have not been doing any baking, I thought about it, and then decided that was the very last thing I should do, I have enough junk to eat without having baked goods of my own around.
Pinky, I will bet your DH is happy to be planting, it is so much easier to handle this whole thing when you have work to distract you, even without the socialization.
Marsha, Mazel Tov! I guess once things get back to normal, or the new normal, they will figure out a wedding date. No rush, they are young. Good idea to make a list, maybe I should do that for next weekend. I know I did accomplish one thing this weekend, I brought our down comforter to the cleaners, then found 2 others for us to use. I don't have another king size, so we used 2 separate ones, and one of those I had to wash. I did cook 2 dinners, so that is an accomplishment. Last night I prepped part of the meal early, so it was not as much at once. I like the Blue Apron meals, but they take a long time to prepare. I usually don't spend that much time when I cook myself, I keep things very simple so it does not take so much prep time. The one tonight is easier, and I am getting 3 more today. So glad that I didn't have to come up with more to make that I have to buy ingredients for.
This morning was my DGD's one week birthday, funny what we have to celebrate, so I sent them a text. Imagine, only a week ago I had been up most of the night, waiting for this to happen. I think especially DS is very thrilled with her. I know DDIL is too, but she is tired and sore, so not exactly the same. She sleeps 3 hours at a stretch it seems, during the night, which I think is normal, so the nurse is very helpful with that. DDIL has been making up bottles of her own milk, so I don't think she has been waking up.
I started 2 books yesterday, Maj Jongg Mondays, which is really kind of simple, but I guess a good kind of thing to read right now, and Sunrise on Half Moon Bay, a new Robyn Carr stand alone, which I am enjoying, good night time book for me.
Anngie, how is Jon doing? Hope all is OK in your neck of the woods. I am guessing you are having dreary weather today too. It is 50 degrees here though, so not too bad.

My hairdresser is underground in the sense that she shouldn't have a shop on residential property. I don't know when it changed, but it is not allowed anymore. Most people don't know this. I think some people were grandfathered so they could keep their shops open. She didn't want to open a new shop and didn't want the drama of being in a shop with a bunch of others. Most of her customers have been with her for years and she quit taking new customers. She told all her customers what she was doing and if they were uncomfortable with it, they found someone else. She has several older customers(late 70s to 80s) who would come every week for a wash and a styling. I don't know how they are doing. As I said, her DH is in bad health and I think she will put off starting again for a while. I talked to my sister today and she said her roots are showing. She had some of the cover up, but I think the hairdresser will be one of the first places she goes. She hasn't been out is over a month. She always has kept her kitchen pretty well stocked so she hasn't even had to go to the grocery store. Her DS and DDIL check on her and get milk and whatever else she may need.
Marsha, congratulations to your son. That is great! Hope his new job goes well.
Robin, does your DDIL work and how long will she be off? DD started pumping and freezing milk early on. DGS started on bottles of breast milk when he was around 3 weeks so he would be used to them when he started going to daycare. It was nice to have them ready whenever we babysat. Sleeping for 3 hours a stretch sounds good.
Anngie, I think I made cookie bars from the same recipe you did. They were okay. It wouldn't been hard to make them completely from scratch. I just wanted to try the recipe and we didn't have any trouble eating them.
Gareth, I am sorry about your nephew. That must be so hard.
DH went in to work today.

Carol, yes, my DDIL works, however she is a book agent for models, so there is really no work right now. She works for a company. She was with Elite for a long time, then switched to a small company that she loves almost 4 years ago. They had just given her a raise, but when this all happened, they let go a few people and cut her salary. I didn't really want to stress them out so didn't ask again, but she can get 2 months paid in NY State because of our Paid Family Leave Act, and then another 2 months that her company will provide. Hopefully that will stand. And then, I am hoping they will be able to get going again. The models can't get their hair and make-up done, they can't have all the people in a studio photographing them, they can't travel to photo shoots, so things are really dead. DS is in finance and works from home, which he actually likes now. He does accounting for mutual and hedge funds for a Japanese banking company. He has work he can do to set things up the night before, so that he has less to do during the day, so he likes this idea. He says he wouldn't mind doing this a few days a week for a long time.
Busy day today. When I get a package together of documents to send out to a client, it can take me an hour to get all the sticky tabs on so they know where to initial and sign. DS will do everything with them via video conferencing. I ran out of the kind of Priority envelope that fits them all, so had to go to the post office, and there was a line! The annoying guy in front of me was on the phone, so he wouldn't listen to me when I asked him to move up, when we were finally inside, so I could rest my pile somewhere. I did not expect there to be that kind of line, but one of the other post offices closes at 1:30.
