Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read.Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Brrr! 30 degrees this morning. And of course with a breeze. Sunny at least today, but a bit chilly.
Gareth, I am so sorry about you having to relive your nephew's horrible death. I have heard that also, about certain meds, and their possible side affects, including suicide. Some of those, after hearing all that, you are leary about taking them. Were he and your DS close? That sounds about right, with WW being closed till May 30, with the way things are going in our state, anyway. They just found a hot spot at JBS Packing Co., with over 100 employees positive. All those darned protesters are wasting their time, plus spreading the virus. Just stay home people. With your Governor just closing the golf courses, I think your state is a little behind us with the virus. It does make sense to let them golf, what with everything else on the course closed, like the clubhouse, etc, no carts allowed, and they have to do the social distancing.
Pinky, that is so nice to hear all of what your DH is doing! I think last year was really bad for planting for you all, wasn't it? Like really late? I read somewhere that someone (there is always someone!!) is saying this summer is supposed to be warmer and dryer than normal, something to do with El Nino. So hopefully that will be a blessing for all of you out there, after such a horrible year last year. Doesn't look good for the meat packing plants tho. Yours, and now ours was hit with over 100 positives. The National Guard or whoever does it, will have their hands full with contact tracing.
Marsha, congratulations!!!! Yes, not too surprising, but still so nice to hear, right? Good luck to DS on his job, also. Things are really looking great for him. The funny thing about masks, what with your DD wearing a disposable one out in public, is, when during the winter, before the huge run on masks in the stores, I found the last box of the N95's, a pair, that I bought to wear inside DB house, since the stink was so bad. We ended up saving them, and now I won't wear them, as I feel guilty wearing them, thinking people see me with it on, and wonder why I have it and did not donate it to the medical profession. So I wear the cloth mask DD got us. I think the cloth masks are pretty neat, as you can make them to look really neat, with the right fabric.
Anngie, thank you, yes we are feeling better, well I should say I am....DH eventually felt a bit better yesterday. About those cookies I made that failed.....When I saw the recipe on WW website, it said they were 1 point. It did not specify for which program, so I assumed it was 1 point for all 3 programs. After I made them and had 2, I went into my app on my phone, to track them, and come to find out, on the purple program they are 2 pts each! I would have never made them if I knew they were 2 points each. Right now, just starting a new program, I am always very strict, and thought I could have 1 little cookie, so I am happy they were a big fail. About all the elective procedures being canceled, and staying canceled, I had thought since so many medical people are laid off, they should slowly bring back those procedures, but someone wrote on FB that we would not want to go into a hospital right now. Bummer.
Robin, DH has a history of kidney stones, so we have been down that road many times. He may have had 1, and then passed it, that could be why he was in so much back pain. But usually he can tell, with other symptoms...I won't go into details. He does seem a bit better, just had a horrible headache yesterday and very tired. No fever, so thank goodness I did not have to worry about the virus. See my note about the WW cookies to Anngie, about the points. Otherwise I would not have made them. We too have quite a bit of junk around here, but I am avoiding all of that right now, focusing on the WW program. Happy 1 week birthday (sorry, 1 day late) to your DGD!!! Isn't that nice to type?? (DGD!!!) Ok, the all important question: HOW MANY DAYS TILL GRANDMA GETS TO HOLD AND SNUGGLE MADDIE? Dang!!! You just reminded me that I needed to stop at the Post office yesterday, while I was out and about, but forgot, as I am out of stamps. Now I don't want to go there.
Carol, I don't know the laws about having a 1 chair salon in your house, but I do know they are out there. I think that is nice for women that know how to do that, to be able to do it in their house. I have seen houses where there is a little addition to the house for it. I hope her DH is doing ok. I am getting very sick of looking at my hair in the mirror tho, I sure wish we could go to our stylists. I may have to try trimming my bangs, but I don't want to look like Gareth, in her school days pictures! LOL.
My goodness, we had some very wicked weather yesterday afternoon and evening. Very high gusts of wind, it was gusting so hard, it was whistling through our patio door!!! (The door was closed and locked) That was weird!! We had to take the bird feeders down, as they were swinging so hard, we thought they would fly off their hooks. Then thunderstorms last night, which knocked our power off just long enough to have to reset the TV's. Now it will be a bit chilly for a few days.
I made a baked spaghetti dish for dinner last night, which you end up using the crock pot for a few hours, and it was so good! I did create the recipe in the WW app, and it came up with a point of 6 for 1 serving, so I was happy with that. Of course there was enough left over for another meal.
Yesterday I was able to stock up with a lot of 0 point foods, so with those here, having only 16 points a day to spend, it should help. Of course there is the weekly points, which I have always used.
DH asked me last night to go with him maybe tomorrow, to Fleet Farm to look for a boat cover, as they are on sale there right now. I am nervous about that, as that store is somewhat like the big grocery store I usually shop at, with there always a lot of shoppers there. So it is very hard to do the social distancing. He said we could go early in the morning, then it won't be busy, so I will think it over. He is getting the itch to get going with his new toy; this weekend, weather permitting, he is going to start cleaning it.
Have a nice day everyone.

This morning I was going through the desk in dh's room looking for a binder clip and I found a pattern and fabric for a project I never made. So I could make more masks. I will see if I feel so inclined this weekend. My boss ordered 10 from an artist friend of mine. We are going to put them out for employees to take if they wish, and if they are all taken we will order more from her. I would just send her my fabric to make more but she said she has already made 100 masks and hasn't made a dent in her fabric stash.
Karen - perhaps, if you aren't wearing those N95 masks, you could donate them to the hospital. You can mail order stamps. Check the usps website. I always buy stamps for work via mail order.
Last night we were having chili for dinner and I decided to try it on baked potatoes like I see in restaurants. It was ok, I think I prefer it plain with crackers, and I didn't think ahead about how many more points it would be that way. DD didn't like it. Tonight is salmon which dd won't eat. I'm going to ask her if she wants to finish the chili with pasta for dinner while we eat salmon. I'm debating whether to send dh to the grocery store this week. There are some things we will be out of but my fridge is still very full of produce we haven't eaten and I literally can't fit anything more in there. I'd like to push the shopping out for a week but I think the few things I need we will be out of by the end of this week. I hate that we have to think about food this way.
I have overripe bananas. I was going to make banana muffins this morning but stopped myself. We don't need them. Right now we have 2 kinds of cookies in the freezer so there are sweets in the house for dh and dd.
I did day 5 of the plank challenge. Up to 30 seconds. I'm doing the easy ones - knee and forearm. *If* I get through this I will go back and do it again the harder way.

Not much going on around here. Another thing the Texas governor did was allow some elective surgery. We know one nurse who was laid off from her job because she is a surgical nurse. Hopefully, she will get her job back now.
My other sister (not the one I talked to yesterday) is making masks. She quilts and a room full of fabric so that is not a problem for her. She and DH live out in the country and have a huge garden. She cans a lot of veggies so they are probably set with food, too.
Marsha, planks are hard. They are supposed to be good to help prevent back problems. Sometimes, I walk through my house for exercise, too, just for a break from Leslie Sansone.
It is already 75 degrees. We are supposed to get rain tomorrow.
Like I said, not a lot going on. I hope everyone has a good day.

I've been busy all morning so it's time for a break. I've walked my indoor track while waiting for the sheets to dry. I want to walk again outdoors this afternoon. DH said it's too windy for him to go with me. I'm so sick of all the wind lately. It's sunny but cooler than yesterday. Tomorrow's forecast is 70ΒΊ
WM actually had TP yesterday! Sad when the highlight of your day is WM finally having TP in stock again!..haha.
DS and DGD stopped by yesterday afternoon with some masks for us. I'm not sure it was a good idea for them to come in but we did practice social distancing. Good to see and visit with them anyway.
Karen, I've been looking for a good baked spaghetti recipe. Will you please share your recipe?
Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts about my nephew yesterday. DS was always better friends with my youngest nephew who is three years younger than him. They always seemed to have more in common.
I'm listening to Call Your Daughter Home. It's holding my interest well enough but I have mixed feelings about it.

Karen, if you wore those masks, I don't think you can donate them, although some places have a way of cleaning them, so you might want to ask. What is it with these boys and their toys! You know the expression, the man with the most toys when he dies wins. I don't think your DH has that many, but glad that he was able to get that boat. And you can get to enjoy the fish, and some alone time when he goes out. As far as WW goes, what plan are you on? Not that I remember which is which. Are you on Purple? I think that might be the only one that has 16 points, I thought the others were 23 & 30.
As far as the golf courses go, we have a private course in our village, and someone took a picture the other day to post on Facebook of a foursome that was not socially distancing. Someone else said that they were out with their 2 sons playing, who live with them, so I guess that explains it.
Marsha, once in a while I will get a baked potato and a small chili from Wendy's, and pour the chili over the baked potato. I think the points they give you for a baked potato there includes the sour cream and/or butter, because if you weigh the potato for points, it would be less. I don't think that potatoes are really the bad guy that everyone makes them out to be, it's what you might put in or on them that is bad. Of course as long as you don't eat a giant baked potato and count it as 4 ounces. I prefer to have some potato with dinner than to eat a lot of snacks for points.
Carol, I think some elective procedures and surgeries should be allowed, because they have a very broad view of what is elective. Of course if the hospitals are overburdened and can't accommodate it, that's another issue, but I think they can manage. My DDIL's father is a gastroenterologist. he is in a big practice that has an endoscopy center that they had to close.
Gareth, the important thing for me is not whether they have toilet paper, it's whether they have the brand I want. I have for now, and have back up that is not really my preferred brand. I will worry about it once I have gone through that. I was running out of dishwasher detergent, but I have an order coming from Amazon where I ordered the Cascade that I like.
It is stormy here today. It started about an hour ago. First it got really dark, then rain. It looks like it let up a bit, but of course today I decided to wear sneakers instead of Merrells. Our excitement of the day is that DGD's social security card came in the mail. They also finally got the humidifier I bought them. It took a while, and I never had a confirmation, so thought that they messed up. They marked it as purchased on their registry, but I had no order number, and didn't see my cc charged for it. Of course for some reason I could have decided to use a card besides Amex, but that's what I would have normally used. Counting down the days until we can go in to see her. I think Tuesday, but tomorrow she is going to the pediatrician again so they will ask. I have been reading Sunrise at Half Moon Bay by Robyn Carr, the perfect Women's Fiction for the moment. It is her new book, and is about 2 sisters who are 20 years apart in age.

What about elective procedures that are done in the doctor's office or at surgery centers? Are those prohibited too?
Robin/Karen - I assumed when I read Karen's post that those were unused masks. Perhaps I assumed something I should not have.
DD had lunch with us today and sat and chatted. It was a nice change. Still in her pj's though. I'm going to make a new rule - no more coming to dinner in her bathrobe. I guess pj's are ok. If it were me, I'd be showered and dressed but what is the difference between my sweatpants or leggings that I've been wearing on the weekends and her pj's?
I'm still reading bff's brother's book. I'm about 70% and it's very good. Sandblast by Al Pessin.

Hello all-late in the day I know so will make it short. We have been very busy with planting season and so nice to have our more normal planting season than we have had the last 2 years. And of course still busy with calving.
Sorry about the horrible winds I sent you that we had to deal with yesterday----it was horrible.
Karen---Yes last years planting season was terribly late and many didn't even get to plant as there ground was just to wet. I think it was the end of May before we were able to start and went into June for aways.
Marsha---I throw overripe bananas in the freezer in a ziploc bag and either use them at a later time for muffins or banana bread. Often though I put them in a blender with other fruits and yogurt for smoothies.
Carol---75 degrees is perfect
Gareth---smiling at your excitement at TP at WM. Funny how priorities change isn't it? Sorry about the anniversary of your nephews passing. I have a niece that committed suicide 3 weeks after her high school graduation and no one had any inkling she was having any issues. Such a hard thing.
Robin--I am so excited for you to be able to go see your DGD.
Anngie---HI!!!!
Yes we have been busy with customers and of course we are doing are best to stay at distances and finding it really is quite easy in our business. For signatures on their delivery tickets we are able to enter what their pickup product and amount is and then text them a copy and they are able to enter a code they are texted to act as a signature----pretty slick. Hope to get on with you ladies earlier tomorrow but just know things are hectic around here right now if you don't see me on.
