Beck Week 3 Day 18 – Changing your definition of full
You are eating a meal and then you hear or feel yourself let out a sigh. This is the body’s signal that says you have had enough food. Do you ever hear this sigh? Do you stop eating then or do you continue because you still have food on your plate? It took me awhile to feel this but I’ve learned to stop as soon as I get that signal and I feel satisfied, not overly full. I used to eat so quickly that I never had a chance to hear the sigh.
The challenge for me comes when we are eating out, especially with other people. I easily lose my focus and stop paying attention. I can eat many chips with salsa before I’m even aware of how much I’ve eaten. It helped me is count out the number of chips I will eat and put them on a plate. When those are gone, I stop eating.
I’m quoting Carol again. She says,
BE COMFORTABLE WHEN "SATISFIED"
* The Thin Person knows the difference between “satisfied” and “full”
* The Thin Person eats until satisfied (no longer hungry), and then STOPS EATING
* The Thin Person associates over-fullness with feeling abnormal
* I don’t want to feel abnormal: uncomfortable, bloated, and sluggish
* I want to remain a Thin Person, so I do what a Thin Person does
Sabotaging Thought: I’m comfortably satisfied right now, but I really want to eat more.
Answers:
>> I’m not hungry any more. Why would I eat more?
>> I’m comfortable now. Why would I want to be over-full and uncomfortable?
>> I want to remain a Thin Person, so I will stop now.

I don't like the overly stuffed feeling so I try to eat slowly and mindfully so I can sense when I've had enough. For most meals, I measure out my meal and that is all I eat. No seconds is a rule I've always used and I find I'm almost always satisfied.

I also don't like the overfull or stuffed feeling.I eat slowly and if I'm eating a protein salad I normally move around the veggies which makes me eat slower and I wait until I have chewed the mouth in my food and have a sip of ice tea before I take another bite. That helps me to know I have had enough to eat especially since I drink lots of water between meals.I always track my meal before hand and also follow the no seconds rule although I never thought of it as a rule.I find I enjoy my food so much more by eating slowly.

There have been times that I've had a craving for that full feeling and I've made a big salad. It satisfied the craving. I haven't had that craving recently. The fact is that your activity levels will vary day to day. If you learn to pay attention to your feelings of full that will help you to make those adjustments to account for changes in activity.

Hello everyone
I do listen for the sigh. Sometimes it comes quickly into the meal. That's when it is hard to stop eating. I also do not like the stuffed feeling after a meal.
Hope or all of you are doing well. Catch up with me with a message. Miss all of you. Remodeling is still ongoing. Both bathrooms major construction are finished. Entire outside and the inside wall painting is done. Next is the baseboards all over house install in 2 weeks. Seeing the light at end of tunnel.
Still on program but not losing. Eating to many points but eating healthy.

I do like the feeling after I have my big salad in the evening but I think part of that is I'm getting a lot of satisfaction from the chewing. At home I've pretty much figured out the amounts I can have to feel satisfied and stay on plan. Over the winter I think there is more hunger and urge to eat. When eating away from home I do talk to myself a lot about if I've had enough and that seems to work although I'll sometimes allow myself three more bites.

Yes, I read somewhere that a certain amount of chewing comes into play with feeling full.
