Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read.Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. A beautiful morning, leading to a beautiful day. 51 right now, taking us to the low 70's.
Marsha, you reminded me of those days, back when we had our beagle, and after the snow was gone, the clean up we had from our dog. I sure don't miss that, even tho we miss the dog a bunch. Have fun cleaning the yard! Hope you get your list done. Does doing the plank help many parts of the body? When we were at Fleet Farm last week I bought 2 4# weights, to do strength training for my arms. To think when we moved, I gave my set of weights to DD2, what was I thinking?
Gareth, I did not get outside yesterday to walk, and of course then last night I was kicking myself for not getting out, but we were busy during the afternoon. It would be real easy to just stay inside for the most part, but I think you won't. You are level headed, and I am sure will get right back out there, but I am the same way, with sometimes watching too much of the media brainwashing of the virus. They need to start focusing on the numbers of recoveries, not the deaths. I did not see anything about the star on Yahoo last night, I am expecting to see that he passed away.
Carol, we have that issue in Wisconsin, pertaining to the meat packing plants. Our state would be lowering the curve by now, if not for all of them being the hotspots. So irritating!!! I feel our Governor would have started lifting the mandate most likely in the middle of the month, if not for that, so we will most likely go to the end of May. I am hoping he does not go further, by going into June. I am starting to get with the "in" thinking that small businesses should be allowed to open; the ones that choose to, and then Joe Q Public can choose to go out to them or stay home for awhile. I feel so bad for the small business owners who are suffering so much. I did see a story on the national news that restaurants are doing something different; turning their place into a pop up market. How smart, and very interesting! If we had that here, I would go shop there, if there were not a lot of people in it.
Robin, the funny thing with the 2 new pair of shoes, is the one pair that I duplicated, are a bit bigger than the old ones I have. Same shoe, same brand, same size. But the Skechers walking shoes for inside the house fit like a glove. I won't eat a wild turkey, that DH hunts. Too wild of a taste. He has a couple in the freezer, so one of these days he want to smoke one, and make jerky out of the other one. I was the same way with venison, but eventually got over that, but with venison you can disguise the wild taste so easy, so I have gotten on board using all the venison we get from the butcher, after the kill. What is this 5;00 drink that you mention? Our neighbor downstairs and I were talking the other day about setting up lawn chairs in our side yard, of course 6' apart, and do cocktail hour.
Anngie, we all deserve some sunny and warm days, that is for sure!!! Ya know, I have not asked DD what they think she ended having last week. She told me that yesterday she had an ocular headache. I have had those, they are miserable, especially if you are driving when they start. So she is not having a good spring. I read that story about the Governor of NY sending the Covid patients to nursing homes, and wondered about his reasoning on that.
Pinky, HI, hope you are not getting too swamped!!!
So DH calf has been hurting him, so he messaged his Cardiologist office. They called him, and after a ton of questions, and phone calls, he has 2 tests scheduled for Monday afternoon at the hospital, which they told him that he is the only one that can come into the hospital. Most likely they will find a clot in his leg, as he is famous for having those. They will end up putting a stent in, which I asked DH to see if they can do something more permanent, which would mean a bypass. I can see how swollen the calf, ankle and foot are, which is all part of the clot issue.
He is getting ready to go hunting, he is hoping for the whole day, if his back holds out so I will be on my own. Which means a long walk for sure.
Finished A Winter in Paradise last night, was shocked by how it ended, I understand that there is another installment following this one, but geez, that just stunk. My overdrive does not have the next book and if I want to buy it, it costs $14.99, and of course I do not pay, especially that much for a book.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, I hope they can work something out for your DH that will be more permanent. I guess a wild turkey is not something I will look for. I even feel that grass fed beef has more of a gamey flavor than I like. I like Prime beef, but don't like the dry aged prime as much.
I thought I explained about our pot luck dinner exchange tonight. We are each making a different course. We are getting together at 5 pm to do the exchange. One person will have a table set up in front of their house with space for everyone to put each of 4 couples meals out. One by one we will bring out things out and go to the backyard, where they will have chairs set up. Couples can sit next to each other, but each couple will be 6 ft from the others. The women will have cosmos, so we will each bring out own martini glass, put it on a table in the back, then the one who is bringing them will fill the glasses, then one by one we will go up and get ours. The person who's house we are at will make deviled eggs, and leave a plate at each couple's spot. We will sit, have a drink, I think the men are having wine, and we will toast, drink, eat the eggs, then one by one take our food back to our cars, go home and have dinner. Did anyone see the commercial from Ballpark Franks? It is May 2nd grill out, where they suggest that people bring their grill out to their driveway and have a cook out where they can easily stay away from their neighbors.
So for NY, our numbers are high, and how they have so many people in CA and they don't have such high numbers, I have no idea. I am not hearing of any factories that have such a high incidence. On Long Island, if you look at the statistics, my village has only .6% of the residents testing positive. I don't think not being able to get the test has been an issue. Admittedly we are one of the lowest, however even the highest is about 3%, however in those areas it is possible that people are not getting tested. It is just that 3% of 1.5 million people, or even 2%, is a lot in numbers. In NYC, Manhattan and Staten Island have a relatively low percentage, it is the other boroughs that are worse. However, I am a little concerned about the idea of some of the states that have these clusters opening too early, and people not taking things seriously enough.
It's a beautiful day today. DDIL's parents are coming today to visit. Last night they had some of the food I brought them and they loved it. They sent me pics, it was so much food, and so much cheaper than they can get from any of the restaurants in the city. They will have at least 2 meals out of it. I told them I can come in again next week with it again. I know they are doting on the baby a bit too much, let's see what happens when DH goes "back to work" again. He took off this past week, but is working from home.

Sunny and in the 60's already when I got up. I had to be up early for a zoom workshop. After the workshop we walked. I've just had breakfast and now I'm ready to just sit awhile with another cup of coffee. Going to be a beautiful weekend with temps around 80º Love this time of the year before we get high humidity.
I wasn't sure about A Keeper when I started it but after getting into it I'm really enjoying it. Good narrator that helps too.
Karen, sorry to hear that about DH. I assume with his issues that he does take a low dose aspirin every day that's supposed to help with not getting blood clots but I'm sure that's not fool proof.
Robin, I've been waiting for more baby pics!

Robin, I don't recall the details of the pot luck, but I think that is just amazing!!!! I LOVE the whole idea!!! So well thought out! I love when people think outside the box and come up with such great ideas! No, I did not see that about today being grill out day. We won't be doing it, as for one thing, we have leftovers we need to eat or get rid of, and 2, DH is hopefully hunting till almost dark. I am doubtful of that, as when he left this morning, his back was killing him, so I expect to see him home sometime soon, especially if he does not see any turkeys. Doesn't that give you such a great feeling, that what you can contribute to your DS, and DDIL is so appreciated? We Grandma's are good for something!!! Gareth, I see you popped in while I was replying to Robin. I know, this weather is just wonderful!!! I am waiting a little bit to take my walk outside. Of course there has to be that dreaded wind! I hate trying to walk against it, it saps my breathing. DH takes 2 different clotting meds, so he does not take any kind of aspirin; he used to, before he started having so many clots. This has turned into somewhat of a hobby for him, lol. It is almost expected that once a year or so he will have a clot. I asked him yesterday if he gave any thought to a bypass, to be over with it. He really didn't answer me. I too have been waiting for more baby pic's....ROBIN!!! Lol.

Karen, I'm sorry your DH feels bad. My dad had the same problem and had to have a bypass which helped.
Yesterday was the day when more businesses could open. Quite a few chose not to though. Many restaurants are still just doing pick up and delivery. The Town Center, our big shopping area, had Target, Dollar Tree, Hobby Lobby and Home Depot open and of course, Walmart. I've seen where a few restaurant have a pop-up market. A barbecue restaurant had bread, dried beans, rice and toilet paper and some other stuff I can't remember right now. I thought it was a good idea.
It's supposed to be very warm today. I imagine a lot of people will be at the parks today.

The sun is out! Even though I have things to do inside, I still love to see the sun!
Karen, I feel so sorry for DH! I really don’t know too much about a bypass, but would this take care of those clots once and for all? I do remember it as a procedure often done these days. I agree with you totally - as much emphasis should be made on the recoveries. I think we’re inching closer and closer to hysteria. The facts are bad enough! There’s a reason for this, though, which will probably take us right up to the election! lol
Gareth, I WISH it would get to 80 degrees here! We’re hoping for 70 and I’d be happy with that.
Robin, that’s a good idea! Actually, five houses in my neighborhood are getting together tomorrow afternoon in our driveway. We’re going to mark off 8-10 feet between couples’ chairs and just sit and talk. It’s simple, though, everyone brings their own snacks and drinks. Your plan sounds like more fun! It’ll be fun to just sit and talk to people other than DH! lol. Your statistics are interesting! Here, it’s .1% with 54 positives. Out of a population of 49,500 that means 99.9% are healthy.
Hello to Pinky and Marsha! Hope your weekends are going well!

Karen, I don't really like to keep posting on Facebook, but if anyone wants to see them either by email or text, give me your info on the private messages here, and I will send some. I text sometimes to my friends and family, but don't want to do that too often either. We have a photo stream where DS & DDIL post pictures that the family can see, and some of DDIL's friends too. I can email or text those.
Anngie, I love the 70 degree weather, especially like it is today when it is sunny. I just took the dog for his longer walk because DH was trying to shuck clams in the kitchen. He is making white clam pizzas to go with my salad, and I wanted to stay out of his way, because you know if something happens it will be my fault.
I have my salad done, I just have to give everyone instructions. I have a container of the greens, a container of the mushrooms that need to be warmed, and small containers of salad dressing, that they can drizzle on top.
Anngie, yours is a good idea for a get together too. It's nice when I meet people I know on my dog walk so we can chat a bit.

I didn't see anything about it being grill day either. Robin, your dinner sounds great.
We facetimed with DGS this afternoon. DSIL was baking bread. Since he got his sourdough starter he has really been getting into bread. DD was baking something, too. DGS is really growing and talking more. Of course, we don't really know what he is saying. DD and DSIL know what some of the sounds mean. He pretty much talks all the time. While he is playing with his blocks or trucks, he jabbers all the time. They can tell when he is doing something he shouldn't because he gets quiet. I wish we could see the light at the end of this virus tunnel because we really want to see and hug him.
My dad had bypass surgery in the mid 70s when it was a new procedure. My parents had to fly to Houston from Arkansas for the surgery. His main complaint was leg pain. His family doctor messed around a while before sending him to a specialist. After the surgery, the only medication he had to take was a baby aspirin daily.
Our county now has 41 cases of the virus confirmed and so far, no deaths. Still not much testing going, but more since we have the Tyson plant. Walmart is going to have drive by testing starting Monday. I'm not sure how you qualify to get one, but you have to have an appointment.
I'm old fashioned and I get prints of DGS through Amazon and put them in albums and have some framed on the wall. For the first year or so, DSIL posted pictures to Tiny Beans. It is a free site where you can post pictures. Not just anyone can see the site. I think you have to have a password. He hasn't posted any in a while, but we have a digital frame and he posts pics and short videos regularly.
It was hot today and is supposed to be again tomorrow and Monday.

Good Sunday morning. Today will be a bit cooler than yesterday's 75 degrees. But that wind! It was gusting at 38 mph, calmed down during the night, and the weather guy just said the winds will be back today. Well goody!!
Carol, I don't know how I will feel when our Governor eases the mandate here, maybe keep doing what I was doing, but once he opens the salons, that I will have to give serious thought to. I read last night that a state (sorry, can't remember which state) is closed till sometime in June! Sounds like what your Dad had is what my DH has. Like I said yesterday, he is an old pro at this, he has had a few stents put in his leg, over the years, so I am going to push for him to get the bypass. I would love to bake bread, at this time, but that is one of a few things I am avoiding right now. It smells so good in the house with bread baking. I think the thing I miss the most is hugging my grand kids. We saw them around a month ago, and it stunk, having to stay away from them, and then no hug when we were leaving.
Anngie, your mention that the sun is out...I seem to do more when it is sunny, compared to when it is gloomy or real cloudy. Like house work, I seem to do it when there is sunshine. Go figure. DH has had numerous stents put in his leg, along with his heart, so that is why I would like him to see if he can just have a bypass, then he should be good to go with that clot in his leg. My DD and I are trying to figure out, based on yours and Robins get togethers this weekend, how we can apply that to something our family can do, I am so excited to try to put it together. We all got the shaft during the holiday's in April, and our state is locked up till May 26th, which means no doings for Memorial day weekend either. So we have to think outside the box, like you two did.
Robin, I understand about the pictures on FB. How did your dinner turn out, was it fun? I can't wait to hear about it.
I walked a mile outside yesterday, it was such a beautiful day out, but yes, as usual now, the wind was blowing, so I finished the rest in the apartment, so I did walk for 60 minutes. It sure helps to have those shoes!! Thank you all, one last time, for advising me about wearing shoes in the apartment.
With the wind picking up again today, I will get my walk in inside, then run some containers that are my DD over to their porch steps.
I guess DH is not going turkey hunting, as he is still in bed. I know he wasn't going to hunt the whole day, as he has plans to go help our dear elderly friend take their rider over their lawn, to rake it up. So he must have decide to just not go out to hunt.
Have a nice Sunday everyone.

Beautiful, sunny start to the day. It's been perfect walking weather. Glad we haven't had the wind you've been having Karen. We've had our share of it though this Spring and it's in the forecast for the coming week along with rain and cooler temps. We need to wash windows but want to do it when there isn't rain in the forecast so they stay clean for a little while. We both hate washing windows and keep putting it off. DH does the outside while I do the inside so it really doesn't take that long with both doing it.

Our dinner last night worked out great. My friends who's house we met out put out boxes with everyone's name on them. One by one we got out of our cars and put the food for each person in their box. Then, we walked into their backyard one by one, and sat separated. They do have a large yard, so Karen, if either of your DD's have that, you can do something similar. One friend made cosmos for the women, my DH brought himself a thermos of Manhattans, one other guy brought himself something, then there was a bottle of wine. We left things on one table, so everyone could go individually to get their drink. She put a plate of deviled eggs on every couple's chair. We ended up not leaving until 6:45 to go home to heat up our food and eat. It was great, but I ate too much! I suppose if you want to eat on your laps, you could all walk one family at a time up to a buffet table and do the same.
My kitchen was a mess after all this, especially after DH makes the pizza dough and assembles them. I was thinking I had everything cleaned pretty much, but just remembered I have the large pot he steamed the clams in still sitting there. Putting everything away is another task. I have laundry to do, but it is a beautiful day here so I would like to get outside.
Last night I also watched the movie The Art of Racing in the Rain. I loved the book, and the movie was really good too. I understand it even more now that I see my DS with his daughter.

I'm torn about whether states should reopen. I know people are tired of staying home and social distancing. I get that, but I just read an article that said reopening too soon will result in thousands more deaths. Maybe it's because I'm a home body and even before this, there were weeks when I would only go to the grocery store or the library. I guess we're all going to have to decide what is best for each one of us. I don't know, I guess I just have mixed feelings and come down definitely on one side or the other.
Robin, glad your dinner will well. That was such a good idea.
