Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read.Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Cloudy now, but it is to turn sunny, but our high's this week will be in the 50's, sometimes in the 40's. Brrr!!!
Gareth, that wind was so, so annoying!!!! Yesterday, on a Interstate system that runs north/ south thru the state, there was multi vehicle accidents, as it is a very flat, open area, with dusty potato fields, so with that combination, the winds made it a dust storm and people could not see, driving through it. I guess there used to be tree lines, bordering the highway, but the farmers took them down, for more crop space. Right now our state is in very high danger of wild fires, and between the high winds, and it being dry, it is a good thing that did not start a fire too. I did all my walking in the apartment, 60 minutes of it. Our windows on the outside need washing too, I wonder how and who does that! We sure can't get out there, on the 2nd floor and wash those. I bet they do not do anything to them. I have no desire to wash the inside of them, when the outside are dirty.
Robin, you are the inspiration I needed for me and my DD to try and figure out how to have something like that, at her house, as she has the yard space to do it. What I want to figure out is for everyone to eat there. If we could find a long table, then we could somehow have a few couples sit together and eat. DD said that Memorial weekend is when they do all the rest of their planting of their huge garden, they have started it, but that is when they get it all done, so I don't know if they will have time that weekend, as this will take a lot of putzy work. I think I would feel comfortable going over there and help setting up. Thank you for all this info, it is just what I needed, to get through the next few weeks.
Carol, I feel the same way, would love to have a few more options out there open, but I will be that person, where years from now, I will probably still have my mask on, lol!! So I am on the fence post about this, maybe because our state is still a hot spot, what with the meat packing plants. I did read a good statement last night....the guy said, we have been staying at home now for aprox 7 weeks. So think about it....7 weeks, and a virus that takes aprox 14 days to run out, why is the data running so high now? We should be flattening the curve! It has gotten to the point that most medical places are laying people off! It has turned very confusing. But if they open up everything, and there is still masks, hand washing, and social distancing in place, I would have to give it deep thought, as to do I want to go out, and the issue is, where is it I am going, maybe to a small store, or a beauty salon that can guarantee only a couple people in there...? It is our choice to stay in, as we have been doing, nobody can force us to go out into the unknown, thank goodness!!!
When I get bored, and DH isn't around, I do weird things. Yesterday I looked a bit at the 3 WW plans and decided (again!) that I wanted more daily points. So I switched to green. After I printed off the sheet of the 0 points, I compared that, to my daily tracking papers, and decided I would be better staying on the purple plan. (eye roll here). So back to that one. I am starting to have a hard time with my recipes, don't want to keep making the same ones, and the recipes on WW for the plan are just different than the ones we are used to. So I have to get inventive. The end of this week is the end of the meal planning I did way back in the day. So maybe I will give Hello Fresh a chance again, just for something different, but not too different.
I will be dropping off and picking up DH at the hospital later today, for his C scan and arteriogram (that is what DH thought they said they would do!), so it might take awhile, so I, of course have a small grocery list, which I will do while he is there, and run it all home. I found a very good sounding southwest chicken wrap recipe, that I will be making today. So that will be in the crock pot while I am doing all that running. The store I used to work at is have an excellent steak sale, so I will go there for my shopping and then stock up on steaks, to have a bunch in the freezer....if they have enough steak to sell! I am hearing of shortages already. So I think I better stock up on chickens, ground beef, and pork loins, while I can (IF they have them!) Isn't our normal just awful?!
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, glad I could help. I guess if they had long tables, you could have 4 people at a table. People who live together can sit closer, but with the kids, not sure how you would work it all out. If anyone has snack tables, they could bring them and you could eat on them, or on card tables. I am waiting to hear what my DS's think we should do on Mother's Day, if anything.
It is a nice day today, already in the 60's, but we will go back and forth between this and the 50's, sunny and rainy. It rained overnight here, so we are getting enough rain. I have started some seeds indoors. I held onto egg crates, and have 4 dozen seeds in. Green beans, cucumbers, and bell peppers. We'll see what happens.
Got to get moving, will be back later.

Hello All. What beautiful weather this weekend. I washed all the winter jackets as I don't think we will need them anymore. Unfortunately dd left her really warm one at school so that will probably not get washed this year at all. With my to-do list I did manage to accomplish some things. I finally made a mask and now that I've figured it out I will make a few more. DS is taking his first exam today and apparently they won't let them in without a mask. He has the disposable one I sent him so I'm going to send he and gf some cloth ones after I get them made. I was surprised that with 5 sisters nobody has bothered to make masks for the family. I don't think gf sews.
We are getting to the end of our 2 weeks grocery shopping and we seem to have made it. We barbecued burgers last night (hot dogs for dd as she does not like burgers at home). I made homemade buns because I didn't want to go to the grocery store just for buns. They came out pretty good. Better than the ones you buy in the bags at the grocery store. Not quite as good as the eggier ones we buy at our supermarket bakery. But I was pleased. I baked half the recipe and put the rest in the freezer in dough balls to use next time. Tonight we have a pasta dish planned, then I think I will send dh to the grocery store on Tuesday. I've made a Target order of the things on the list that are cheaper at Target that they will ship and I plan to place that order today for delivery Wednesday.
BBL. Better get some work done.

This weekend we had picture perfect weather. 81Âş yesterday with light wind. Cooler now the rest of the week with overnight lows close to freezing. Cool but still nice for my walk this morning.
Yesterday I made cherry pie bread pudding that was so good. We both loved it. I had a can of cherry pie filling I wanted to use. I knew it had been in the cupboard awhile. Expiration date was 2018 but I'd already started mixing it up when I checked the date so went ahead and used it anyway.
Going to WM when I'm done here. I'll be glad when DH can shop with me again. We follow the rules of only one family member shopping even though I see other couples shopping even with their kids too.
I finished A Keeper yesterday. I've started Too Close now. I'm having trouble getting into it but I'll stick it out awhile yet. I had trouble getting into A Keeper too but ended up liking it so we'll see.

It already 81 and is supposed to get up to 90, but the rest of the week shouldn't be quite so hot. Thunderstorms are forecast for this evening. Yesterday was hot. I dug out a pair of shorts to put on. Early yesterday evening I started getting a bad headache. Luckily, I took my meds in time and by the time I went to bed (around midnight) it was getting better. I feel much better this morning, just tired which it from the meds. Sometimes I have strange dreams with these meds. This morning one of the cats was trying to wake us up and I dreamed he had gotten in the window and broke the window blinds. Weird.
I can't think of any place I need to go so I guess I will continue sheltering in place. I think I may have to go to the grocery store later in the week.
Gareth, I think most canned goods last forever. I don't know how they would decide when something would expire.
Karen, I hope your DH gets a good report at the doctors.

Well, our “driveway social distancing” get together was so much fun! Couples sat together of course, then we were probably 12’ apart. We had our drinks, a few munchies, and talked and laughed for 5 hours! I thought it would last 2 hours at best. We have all been home too long I guess. I got a text from one later that night saying “you won’t believe how much this has helped”. Now I wish I had thought of it sooner. They really are a nice group of people.
Karen, thinking about your plans, I’m wondering - do you really need to all be sitting at a table? Maybe just eat in your chairs - as long as your using good, solid plates, or, remember those TV trays - some could use those? The food could be put on a long table and everyone takes their turn going up to get their food. Just thinking here! lol. Hoping for good news on DH scan and aeteriogram. Cudos for all that walking!
Robin, sounds like your get together was a success! We just might be doing this all again next month!
Gareth, 81 degrees must have been wonderful. We hit 72. I remember once reading canned food goes safely beyond the date - unless there’s a bulge in the can. What I just heard about - which surprised me - was not to use boxed cake, muffin mixes beyond their date. Something about the yeast going bad? I’ll have to look it up.
Marsha, I think I missed something. What kind of exam is DS taking? Now get back to work!
Carol, I’m sorry for those migraine headaches you get. Have you had them throughout your life?
OK ladies, your thoughts please. I got a call from my hairdresser the other day. She has moved much of her equipment to her house and set up. She thoroughly cleaned the room and equipment. She takes one customer in the morning and one in the afternoon and cleans in between. She said I’m under no obligation but if I would like an appointment later this week I can make one. If not, no hard feelings. She wears a mask and so would I. I have no doubt about her safety as her parents live upstairs. Thoughts? (what would I do without you ladies to run things by!)

Anngie, I don't know about your state but here in ours a hairdresser could lose her license doing that. Otherwise as long as you're comfortable with her safety precautions I'd go.

Anngie - ds just changed jobs (timing!). He's working for Edward Jones. So today he took the first of his licensing exams. I can't remember what it's called, some jumble of letters, but it's the overview exam. Next is the Series 7 then after that Series 66 (I think). He passed this morning's test so now he starts studying for the next one.

Anngie, glad your driveway get together worked out so well. I think my whole group is good for doing it again in another few weeks. Funny thing is that one of the ones in our group who chose not to do it was one of the ones who liked my explanation of it on Facebook. I think we all felt comfortable with the number we cooked for, so not sure we want to give the others the opportunity to do it next time. We will have to decide. We make complex dishes withe expensive ingredients, so how many do we want to do that for? Of course I just remembered I have some leftovers in the refrigerator downstairs, so maybe I will take that for lunch and have a small portion.
Marsha, that's a really good think for your DS to get into. Good that he passed.
Carol, I would be more concerned about going out shopping and to other places if I knew people were not wearing masks when they went. We will have to wait and see how things go in all the states that are opening up.
Gareth, I agree about using the can as long as it is still in its original shape, not distended or anything like that, and no dents or rust.
Anngie, maybe with the mixes it might not be the yeast, but some other kind of leavening agent like baking powder or baking soda. However, I am sure I have had that in my pantry for a long time, and never had an issue.
I have a Blue Apron meal from last week that I am making tonight, it seems like a relatively simple one. Then I think I am giving up on them again, and will just have to come up with what to make.
