This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. βββββββββββββββββββββββββ I donβt remember Cinco de Mayo references growing up. I think Taco Bell introduced me to Cinco de Mayo and I had to research the origins of the celebration. In 1862 Mexican forces in the town of Puebla defeated French forces, so it celebrates Mexican resistance of a foreign power. Nothing screams tacos and margaritas like a battle.

Chele, thanks for the early start. I'm up to put the trash out, but still didn't get here before you! I never heard of Cinco de Mayo until I lived in Houston in the early 80s. I don't remember Mexican food being popular in Florida yet, so that was all new to me when I lived in Texas. Lol on celebrating a battle with tacos and margaritas.
Denise, it's nice to remember your dad's birthday. Mine would've been 85 last November. Can't believe you're getting snow this late! I have one sister and a nephew and a step-niece and step-nephew.
Linda, nice of the neighbors to bring a gift to apologize for the noise. Most of my neighborhood had their roofs replaced in the year after Hurricane Matthew. The noise was constant.
Karen, they've been showing crowds everywhere. People don't seem to get that we're at the top of the curve and not down the other side. I'm guessing the G'burg crowds are fairly local, but who knows. I'm curious how many out of state plates you'll see. We've rented a condo the last few times we've been there and wouldn't get the security deposit back if we left a mess. We will definitely do a lot more sanitizing next time we travel anywhere! We're getting a slight cool down from 90s to 80s. I'll take it. Will Dale repair the bird feeder today? The cardinals were probably missing their snacks!
Becky, that's good that the service wasn't too crowded. I agree that people still don't get it. Glad Kenneth found some comfortable boots.
Liz, thinking of you!

roofers started pounding nails before six ...argh.

Roofers began at six! Arggggh
I have had ab issues ever since before DH's surgery in Feb followed by all this virus. I have a history of stress issues affecting it. Today I came home with aching stomach and headache after Whole Foods. Very few people were there, but one old guy and his grandson In red truckers hats and without masks were everywhere we wanted to be blocking aisles bumbling along consulting someone at home. They do not have one way aisles. But the check out us good with packer wiping down the pay machine each time and a person greeting you with sprayed cart.
I just wanted to get out because for first time my mask was being weird, sticking to my nose and sliding. Whole Foods keeps getting worse since Amazon took over. It is all rearranged without logic and I cannot find anything! Sprouts has three times the produce diversity. We went because of the cheese and produce and bakery. Cheese way reduced, bakery almost nonexistent . No reason to ever go back.

Muchas gracias for the start, Chele, and Happy Cinco De Mayo to All! Are you doing Taco Tuesday? I have some FF vegetarian refried beans and will be spreading them on soft tacos with kale and salsa verde for dinner. I never heard of Cinco de Mayo until I moved to TX and we used to celebrate it bigtime there. Lots of things going on, especially the weekend before, and the campus I worked on used to have tacos catered and a mariachi band to perform. LOL on tacos, margaritas, and battles. Of oucrse, that was a part of TX clear back to the Alamo days in 1836. Linda, I hadn't thought about the clanking and crashing of the tiles coming off the roof, but it sounds like the neighbors did what they could to improve the situation. Sorry they got such an early start today. Tom Brokaw did a segment on Kent State that aired yesterday and they had the CSNY song that you kept thinking about yesterday. You're right about the changing viewpoint on protesters by the WH. I hadn't seen that they started arresting some of them, but I'm glad to hear it. We have no desire to be among the first to be vaccinated. We saw the Will Smith movie, I Am Legend. They certainly upped the death projections yesterday. We are not being compliant and I think we need to be even more vigilant now. I've seen those people like the old guy and the grandson at other stores. Annoying. I'm surprised they don't have one-way aisles in such a big store. The one is Asheville is pretty large, but the Knoxville one is pretty small. I was used to the HUGE WF in downtown Austin when we lived there. That is still my favorite. At last the card reader was being cleaned regularly. What kind of mask are you using. Did you get some reduced cheese? Sorry the bakery was so depleted. I agree with you on the battle with the virus and stupidity. I'm not sure which one is the more deadly. I don't think some people care about getting their security deposits back, Kathy. They would rather be absolute pigs. You are more responsible and the deposit actually means something to you. I think we'll all do more sanitizing if we ever travel again. Speaking of sanitizing, I saw on the a.m. news that sanitizing wipes may not be plentiful until July or August. During the lockdown, I saw vehicles from as far away as Canada. BTW, I saw that Laura Ingraham on Fox News proclaimed the social distancing isn't working. Gee, could be that too many people aren't doing it? ? Our cases here are still going up but not as quickly as they were and I think a lot of it may be an increase in testing. Dale managed to get the feeder fixed and back out in time for dinner. He has the lid taped down really well and if we get the storms we may this afternoon, we will possibly put it in the garage so there won't be any further issues. Enjoy your "cool" weather. The high here toorrow is supposed to be 60, so I will need to dress accordingly when I go work at the plant sale. Becky, how was PT today? Any word on the reopening of the therapy center so you can get a bit more intensive PT? Is Kenneth getting his new boots broken in? Sorry you had to turn your heat back on, Denise. I have a feeling you may be using it for a few days. Hope you don't see that snow at all. Isn't this kind of late in the year for the white stuff? I heard from Liz last night. Things are getting better, but they are having the same compliance issues as the rest of us, even in the virus hotspot. She was exhausted this weekend to the point of taking naps both Saturday and Sunday. Gary was a little concerned, but she said it helped. They will be testing hospital personnel but she didn't say when she might be tested. Of course, she is hoping she will be negative and not positive/asymptomatic. She asked me to send all of you her best. We heard about a new series on Netflix called Upload. It's about a guy in the afterlife. Kind of hard to explain beyond that. It's entertaining. Some of you might enjoy it. Dale did a Food City trip this morning and got there early enough to avoid the crowds, plus there was some rain in the area, which also kept the crowd down. Knees haven't been happy today--probably weather-related. I've done what I had to do and worked on some things for the master gardener newsletter. We have all the volunteers we need for the plant clearance sale tomorrow and Thursday. GF and I will work together tomorrow afternoon and we have some folks from the current class (called interns) working on Thursday morning. I showed Dale a photo of the greenhouse and he made a comment about plants following me home tomorrow. He's probably right.

Chele Thanks for the start. If you had lived in Texas you would have heard plenty about Cinco De Mayo.LOL.
Kathy That is the only way to celebrate a battle. LOL. I had forgotten you lived in Houston.Gov Abbott doesn't care about the curve as long as there are hospital beds and respirators available. After hitting a high of 87 this morning we are thankfully down to 72 at 5:00.We aren't supposed to get out of the 80's this week after having 3 days in the middle 90's.
Linda In Texas we are battling stupidity above the virus most of it coming from government officials. Thanks for that link.Yep they are expecting it to come back during the height of flu season.I hope you feel better soon.Walmart is always so crowded now but thankfully everyone is wearing face masks and will stay away from other people as opposed to HEB.They even had an employee advising you to stay 6' apart from others.
Karen There is no celebrations this year for Cinco De Mayo. Someone shared on FB "What are the odds of Cinco De Mayo falling on taco Tuesday postponed by a beer named Corona. My calf and ankle/foot has been so tight and of course he wanted to walk so I told him I would go for a short one.I'm glad he won't be coming back because he hasn't been worth the money his company is paying him the last 2 weeks. Both the Elgin PT and my surgeon's PT is back open but I have to be released from home health before I can even call.I have an 11:00 appointment in RR with my surgeon tomorrow then the PT supervisor will come at 3:00 and release me.She wasn't supposed to come until Thursday but she is solidly booked then.I hope we have enough time to stop at HEB in between the 2 appointments.PT guy wants me to tell the surgeon about my calf and foot and the way it hurts today I definitely plan on telling him.He said that way he can write orders for outpatient to work on those areas since his current orders or just for my knee.Kenneth never even needed to break in his boots. He said they are like walking on air.

Oh and our idiot governor said hair salons, barber shops and tanning salons can open on Friday following the social distancing protocols followed by gyms on 5/18.All he cares about is there are enough hospital beds and respirators for anyone that gets infected.
