Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read.Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Kind of cloudy, I guess you would say partly cloudy, lol. Fireplace is going, as it is only 38.
Robin, thank you, yes, I am sure we can come up with something that would work in my DD's back yard, along with Anngie's input, too. About people wearing, not wearing masks, I noticed that yesterday, when I did a bit of shopping, there are so many that are wearing them, and then I saw those that weren't wearing them, and most of the time it is senior citizen's. I wonder if they have breathing issues. I know if I walk a bit fast, I start breathing hard. Back to the get togethers outdoors, you commented that your group makes complex dishes; we would not do that, it most likely would be the normal dishes that us Wisconsinites like eating, such as baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, with someone doing the meat dish, like burger and brats. So those would be easier to manage for a group.
Marsha, congrats on making the masks!!! What an accomplishment! My DH did a somewhat DYI with one of our masks yesterday, to wear to the hospital, by taking one of our packer masks that have the long ties, which are so irritating, and took the mask with the elastic and swapped the ties with the elastic and it worked. Congrats to your DS on his career move!!! I think that is a great choice, just from what I have seen, working with DB financial guy, who works for Edward Jones. You are right though, the timing does stink, for right now, but I believe the stock market will recover. Wow, you did great going 2 weeks on groceries. We just can't go that long, what with needing fruits, orange juice, things like that. I stopped at Fest Foods, the one I used to work at, yesterday, and they do have a limit, with the steaks that are on sale, of just 2 each. Otherwise their stock of meat look ok.
Gareth, once again, I am envious of your weather last weekend, as it was way too windy for me to walk in that gorgeous weather. There was even a huge multi vehicle accident on a major north-south Interstate highway in Wisco on Sunday, from a dust storm; it was in open, flat farm land, with those darned winds blowing across them. If I have to take the colder temps, fine, as long as that wind is gone. I rarely look at expiration dates on cans, as long as they are not damaged. It was hard for us to stop shopping together, and having thought that over, I don't know how that got to be such a habit with us, as when we were both working, we did not shop together, but now it is the norm, for us to go together. But I was happy doing it yesterday alone, as I remembered that between DH slowing me down, and his wanting to buy things we do not need, it is better with him not with me, lol.
Carol, I know from hearing about south Texas, and my DB last week in AZ , that heat wave down south is horrible. Funny thing about that is the park DB lives at in AZ, which is a huge park, closed all their swimming pools due to the pandemic, but the park where I have a friend from the old WW message boards living in right now, in Mission, has their pools open. Interesting how each state looks at things differently, as to what needs to be closed, and what can be open. Knock on wood, I am done now for the week, going out of the apartment, too. Unless the weather turns sunny, then I will take a walk, what with the wind dying down.
Anngie, thank you for the update on your driveway party, I am so excited for our family to try something like that!!! We were all so bummed when we could not get together for Easter, this might help. Yes, we will figure out something, as usually there are a few people that eat like that, with just having the food on your lap. About the hair stylist: my DD told me about someone she knows is working underground, in her basement, and DD could get me in to see her, if I wanted. I said no thank you, as I do not want to be the one to somehow get that woman into trouble. It would be different if it was a family member, that knows how to do hair, to come into my house and we wear the masks and all that happy fun stuff, but going to someone who is in the profession, and doing it in their basement, I would stay far away from.
Pinky must be swamped with work!!! Hi Pinky, hope we see you today.
DH did not have any clots. All the tests they did turned out good. But now he is left wondering what is wrong, as that leg, ankle and foot are still swollen and the calf still hurts. So he will have to call the office of his Cardio doc and see what they want him to do.
DD1 is very sick. She put in a call to her family Dr., late yesterday afternoon to see if the doctor wants her to go to the drive up testing station to get the rona virus test. So far she has not heard back. If she goes down sick with the virus, it will be a mess in her house, as it is a small house, and she will have to isolate, and they are all so dependent on her, what with her helping her DD with her school work, and her DH is working remotely in their basement. Maybe he will have to take a week or 2 off, to fill in for mom's shoes.
Last day of DH turkey season, so after he leaves to hunt, I will be doing the apartment cleaning, then that will be done for another week.
Have a nice day everyone.

Robin - thank you for being positive about ds' job change. Everyone in my family, without exception (and including us), has been concerned about the timing. As in, if he completes his training in a depression, how will he build a business and how long will this job last? I am very concerned. And I think I'd be less worried if he hadn't also just bought a house. DS is very positive about the opportunity but he is young and naïve. Given the world as it is I think it would have been safer to stay where he was in the trucking industry for another 6 months. So now we are working very hard to be supportive and positive while quietly crossing our fingers for him.
Karen - I offered my bff in Boston a mask if she needed one, and she told me that they need to be able to insert a filter. That's the first I've heard of the cloth masks being inadequate, and from what I understand, since their purpose is to prevent the virus from leaving the mask wearer and the mask stops droplets from coughs, I wonder how important or vital it is. So much conflicting information. She sent me a pattern for masks that can use a filter but I don't understand how you would insert a filter in a pleated mask. I may try it anyway, can always use it without the filter. My masks have ties because the only elastic I have in the house is too wide. I also have jewelry making elastic cord which I'm told won't work. I wonder if it is possible to slit elastic. I'll try it and see if it unravels. I suspect it will. The CARES act provides for people who have to care for a sick family member or deal with child care due to a sick family member for a couple of weeks.
DH is going grocery shopping today. I have a 2 week menu and I think we will be ok but of course by the end we run out of fresh produce. I made salad last night with the last of the lettuce. I combine head lettuce with romaine. The head lettuce was really going brown and I only had a little bit of the romaine left because I had pulled off the brown leaves. DH used to add a lot of extras to the cart when he shopped with me back "before Covid" but now he sticks to the list.
Re swimming pools. Wouldn't chlorine kill the virus? If you treat the pool with the maximum level chlorine?
I forwarded a link to dd for a job as a contact tracer. It's a work from home job. She may apply. I hope so because otherwise she has no job. Not likely the lake will open this year, and even if it does, she had told them she was not planning to be here this summer so she wasn't interested in taking the supervisor job they were offering. She is talking about going back to Madison when her roommate goes back. I'm not going to discuss it with her until she has a firmer idea. I think she will be just as lonely and bored there as here at home with us, but then she will have to worry about food and laundry and she'll be stuck in an apartment instead of a house.

Hi Friends---I have sure been missing you gals. It has been crazy busy here and I can't believe all of the planting that has already happened in our area. We actually finisher our own personal planting yesterday. Such a relief as it started raining last night and still is. It is a nice mild rain which is perfect for the crops to get a start. Scary part is that after 2 weeks of beautiful weather it is now supposed to get cooler and even have a chance of frost this Friday and Saturday mornings. Guessing with it being cooler the seeds will not have emerged from the ground yet and if they have they should be low enough that it will be okay. We still have customers that are planting and some that are done but the main flurry of activity is behind. Crazy when you think of last year and we didn't even get to plant until the very end of May.
Hope all is well with everyone as I need to go back to last Thursday I think it is to see what has been going on. One thing I know without reading is I am certain Robin is head over heals in love with that new DGD.
Karen--hope your DD1 will be okay. Not sure what is up with your DH but guessing no clots is a good thing.
Marsha--I have yet to wear a mask but I did take a bandana and ponytail holders a couple of weeks ago and made a simple deal that works quite slick with no sewing involved so I had something if needed. I told DD about this and she commented she had heard of these and some people were putting a coffee filter in it for the filter part of it. Not sure if that is good enough or not and I would think it would eventually get wet from ones breath and I just think yuck and just a germ magnet in my mind.
No one in our area are wearing masks except for medical staff and grocery store employees and that sort of thing. We haven't had one customer come wearing a mask so we are not either. Our county and surrounding counties do not have any positive cases now or for a long time. Amazingly the one case in our county about a month ago was a gal that worked in the nursing home. Everyone expected that to explode in our area but neither her family (DH and her children) or anyone else at the nursing home, employees or residents ever tested positive. Hard to believe. Our state statistics show dwindling cases daily so that is a relief. Businesses are slowly starting to reopen so I hope it all stays good with doing so. We are such a rural area and not that we can't have an outbreak we are surely a little safer from the more populated areas.
I need to get some inventory and bookwork accomplished with this break from customers due to the weather. Sounds like rain again Thursday and then over the weekend.
Waving to everyone and I hope to go back and get caught up on what is happening with all of you!

Karen, I’m glad to hear there isn’t a clot. Have the doctors indicated at all about what is causing this? And your poor DD - she must be beside herself at this point. I went to get groceries today around 9am and there were more people there than I thought there would be. Of course, they never have enough cashiers working so it was a long wait. You would think they would want to get people in and out faster, but apparently not.
Marsha, I know, we moms worry even when their grown, don’t we! The best thing is, he’s got a plan! And doesn’t mind working for it either. I certainly can hold my own when it comes to worrying. I have to say, though, that DH thinks of things to worry about, but I won’t do that.
Pinky, glad to hear SD is doing so well! I remember last year you were worried about the planting - with the possibility it wouldn’t all get done. Here we’re all wearing masks.
Gareth, good point, I never gave that a thought and I don’t know the laws here regarding licensing.
Robin, I looked it up - it was the possibility of mold in the cake mixes. After reading it all, I wouldn’t be concerned either of an outdated box.
Carol, I finished Normal People. It wasn’t an easy read, was it. It was an odd book with an odd ending. I’ll bet someday there will be a sequel. I don’t have plans to read her latest book.

Busy morning. Subbed at two virtual workshops. Threw the sheets in to wash when I got up. It was raining so I walked my indoor track. I had a brief break between workshops so got the bed put back together. Finally had time for breakfast at noon though guess by then it would be lunch or brunch. Whatever you call it I was more than ready to eat.
Yesterday WM had very little TP on the shelves. I didn't really need any but picked up a package to be on the safe side. Lot of bare shelves where cleaning supplies are. Plenty of meat available. My face mask drives me crazy. I was almost claustrophobic by time I got through the checkout. For the most part most people are good about social distancing but then there's the others. There's always the WM workers to deal with too. A lot of people not paying attention to the arrows on the floor marking aisles one way. I wanted to say hey! It irritates me too seeing couples with their kids. Couldn't one stay home or at least in the car with the kids?! I'll be glad when DH shops with me again so he can load groceries in the trunk. He's good about helping bring them in and help put them away when I get home.
What a change in our weather. 80's Sun and only 40's today. It's been raining all day. Temps down to freezing predicted overnight.
Karen, is that the same DD that was sick last week? Hope it's nothing serious and certainly not covid-19. Good news DH didn't have a clot. Did he get to talk to his cardiologist to see what's going on?
Pinky, good to see you! Hoping you were just busy and not sick. You're fortunate to be in a safe area. So many cases here from the Tyson plant that now has spread too to nursing homes since many of the staff lived with Tyson workers.
Marsha, hope that job works out for DD. Sounds perfect for her to work from home.

I think I told y'all my hairdresser works out of her home and she could lose her license if found out. I don't know how many clients she has, but she has some who are older ladies who get a shampoo and set every week. They are probably going crazy. Hair salons here aren't open yet. I'm waiting until they are open and then I will talk to her. There was an article in our newspaper about hair and nail salons and how the employees and owners were hurting. Well, they quoted a hairdresser here in town saying she just had people come to her house. I thought oh no, she shouldn't have said that. Except for DH, you all are the only ones I've told about my hairdresser. If anyone asks me who I go to, I tell them her name and say she is not taking new clients anymore which is true. There was also a post on Facebook about people going to Oklahoma to get manicure since the shops are open there. So Anngie, what did you decide to do?
I've had migraines since I was 14, but it took several years and lots of trips to doctors to get a proper diagnosis and then quite a while to figure out the right meds. I don't get them as often as I used to. I've figured out some triggers, but sometimes I just get one. I think the one Sunday night had to do with the changes in the weather. It was hot and very humid which bothers me.
Karen, I'm sorry about your DD and if she gets a Covin19 test that it comes back negative and that your DD gets some answers about what's going on with him.

Good afternoon. I have some time to chat, as DH is still hunting, and I have all my cleaning done, plus walked 30 minutes and did my weights. I am sorry, I guess I did not make it clear, that the DD that is sick is DD1, the one that had been sick 2x's was DD2. DD1 rarely gets sick, and also, she is the one that had the bariatric surgery. She is the one that her family really depends more on, compared to DD2, where her DH is more active around the house, what with cooking and he can clean a mean house! DH talked to his Cardio doctor nurse afterwards, and she basically blew him off. The thing is, he has been having some other issues, with his leg and arm jerking uncontrollably, just a few times while sitting in his chair. I had suggested that maybe that is early Parkinson's....and now with the swollen leg and ankle, and no clot, who the heck knows? He is at a loss, and doesn't know which doctor to call and talk to about this. I am sure he will look into it tomorrow,
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you all, I have decided when the state opens, I will be shopping for a wig! I am shocked at how much hair I have lost, my goodness, you can see my scalp! Of course with wanting to buy one, I have to wait! There are a couple places in town that are very hands on about educating you about buying them, so that is where I will go.
Marsha, you are right, about the Care act. My DD1 does not think she has it though, which is good, but she does not have a fever, so she is expecting a negative result. It seems this spring has been such a bad one for colds, that right away everyone is scared they have the virus. I had seen on the net, about the filter in the mask, and it was suggested to use a coffee filter, or a piece of toweling. Lol, I tried both, in our masks, and it just does not work. Homemade masks are not made to have that fit in there. I wear mine if I go out in public, then throw it in the wash right away. DH and I were talking about the pools at DB mobile home park down in Mesa, and I guess the closing was because how do you social distance, and also, you can't wear a mask. Of course I argued the other side, with how hard would it be to stay away from other people in the pool, and my god, you are swimming!!!!
Hi Pinky, nice to see you back here! That is so nice that your state is doing so well with the virus. I have a feeling it is going to be a very long year here in Wisco. Your weather sounds a lot like ours, except no rain here. We are under a very high wildfire alert, state wide. We had maybe a half inch of rain early last week, and since then it has been bone dry and lots of high winds. I don't seem to mind wearing masks at the store, I just have to remember that I can't walk too fast through the store, or I start huffing and puffing, lol.
Anngie, thanks. DH is so disgusted, he just called saying he is coming home early, and can he go fishing tomorrow? I said I did not care, but thought he would take tomorrow to figure out which doctor to call about his leg, and he said he is waiting for his back doctor apt, later this month, that maybe it has something to do with his back....hhhmmmm. Ok, whatever. Mold in cake mixes, well, that helps me not to buy any of that, lol!!!
Gareth, you are braver than I am, I hate going to WM in our good times, I can not imagine going there now!!! I sometimes have a short fuse, I really think I would be saying something to the workers, and to the idiots that take their families there. Did you hear about that family in Flint MI, that shot that security guard at a Dollar store? This country is just going straight to hell. I think your state is almost as bad as ours. That's what we get for having meat packing plants!
Carol, well I'll be darned! I did not know you could go to OK to get all that done! I would be there in a NY minute, lol!! Of course it wouldn't be for a manicure, it would be for my hair. Thank you, about DD, she did get a test, and said it was so painful. I had heard it was awful to get. She doesn't think she has it, so we just have to keep our fingers crossed.

Late checking in for me. I was not overly busy today, but by the time I got in, which was later than usual, then DH decided he wanted a sandwich for lunch, which I went and picked up for him, that ended up taking a while, then I had leftover Cassoulet for lunch that I heated up. I left around 4 to go shopping. I volunteered to make dinner for a group home for Thursday. I am making meatloaf, which I could have gotten anywhere, but then I decided I would buy the ready made mashed potatoes from BJ's, which are very good, so figured I would just get everything there, as I wanted to get a tray of the big cookies they sell too. I also bought a big bag of string beans for a vegetable. I am not sure why they have had more trouble getting food there recently, but they have, and someone posted it on a Facebook restaurant group. The home is less than 15 minutes from me, so not a big deal to do.
Carol, I don't think people will really get in trouble for doing that now, I think they will be more lenient. People do have to make a living. It is hard enough for a lot of people.
Marsha, will your DS be working on a team at all, or supervised by someone? I think it could be a good time to start, and the market is not doing as bad as people have said. There had to be a correction, and it is still up. Of course things can change, but who knows.
Karen, I really hope your DD is OK. I hope your DH figures out what he has too. He certainly has had his fair share of different health issues recently. I guess he didn't shoot a turkey. Better he should fish. Did he actually think you would mind? I wouldn't mind one bit if my DH was gone for the day.
Anngie, are you part of the Capital region that would not open as early, or are you outside of that? I did think out cases here were declining, but apparently they are saying not, but we can still see a decline when they do the 3 day average. I have not heard the latest on deaths state-wide yesterday.
Pinky, so good to see you posting. Yes, I am happy about being a grandma, and can't wait to see her again. When I don't get a picture every day, I feel bad. She met her great grandparents yesterday. DS did not want to post any picture in the photo stream because they were afraid their sons would find out they went into the city and be mad, but how could they stay away? That's too much to ask. I don't want to say anything about this on our Facebook booklovers, because I am sure the person who is critical would have something to say about it, but we are going to DS's for breakfast on Sunday. He asked if our other son and DDIL should come, and I said it was entirely up to them to decide. We are going to bring in bagels and smoked fish. I know my DDIL loves whitefish salad, so I will bring that too, lox, herring, maybe something else. I was originally going to send it for DDIL for her first mother's day from a place in the city, but then DS asked if we wanted to come in. I was so excited! The only problem, I really wish I could go and buy something to bring to the baby, sucker that I am.
Gareth, I keep hearing about Waterloo, Iowa, so I guess you guys really have to be careful. I am sorry to say that it seems that people are getting tired of this, and really getting more lax with what they are doing. My next door neighbor's DD had some friends over, and they definitely were not keeping their distance, and certainly were not wearing masks. I really just don't understand people's logic sometimes.
