haha lani, same. my hair almost seems to grow out lighter than i remembered, though maybe it's just age! i am discovering that i almost was getting my hair too blonde and maybe it's nice to stick with more of the brown for now with some blonde blended through but not as much.

I had a facial yesterday. It was wonderful! But you know how during massages and facials you usually want to just zone out, no talking, and relax. Well, my gal and I chatted through the whole thing, lol. I was so happy to see her and I think both of us enjoyed the conversation.
Okay, the experience itself. I waited in my car, she texted when I could come in. I wore a mask in, she was masked. She took my temperature when I first came in. There was hand sanitizer to wash my hands, or I could use the bathroom. I chose the bathroom as I need to use it as well. I'm pretty sure she went in and cleaned it down after I used it. I was asked to leave my shoes out in the waiting room. After that, except for her being masked, everything was the same. Only difference was instead of the small glass of water they usually have for their clients, they had a small bottle of water instead.
I felt comfortable. There was no one else in the salon the entire time I was there. I asked her if they'd been busy. She said she was leaving more time between appointments so that everything could be sterilized in between, but that she'd been booked. She was working through her list of clients who had to cancel during the time they were shut down. I feel honored that I got one of their first appointments after opening.

I am in CT. We were supposed to open for barber shops and hair salons two weeks ago. But our governor decided to open here in sync with Rhode Island. There were competing demonstrations between those businesses who were ready to open following the guidelines and those who werent. He decided to give them more time to get ready. Also, some places were having trouble getting their employees to come back because they were still collecting the extra money on top of their unemployment...and there were rumors of stylists traveling to their clients to do home cuts and colors. Its been crazy, but seems to be easing now.

finreporter, I would assume it is the extra $600 they are getting from the Federal Government.

I didn’t think you could still collect the $600 if you turned down employment.

healthyjoy, I thought that too. There's been some news that if you don't want to go back because you don't think you'll be safe you can keep unemployment. I think it can depend on the employer reporting the employee that won't return to work.

I think it can depend on the employer reporting the employee that won't return to work. There was an article in our paper this morning about this. It seems that the employer can report the employees who refuse to come back to work so they won't get unemployments any longer. In some states feeling unsafe is not a good enough reason.

4 weeks in and I hate working at the salon. It's awkward, uncomfortable, impersonal and just plain weird.
Apparently along with doing their hair, over the years we've created a warm, friendly, relaxing environment which is more like friends visiting over a cup of tea.
Not any more. It's ruined. I hate it.

Jennifer , life has changed, at least for now. If and when a safe and effective vaccine is available we'll be able to get this under control. We have to do what we have to do to stay safe. It sucks but there it is. And you have every right to mourn the loss of what once was...we're all mourning in one way or another. But hopefully we and our loved ones come through this untouched by illness and death. So many will not.

Michigan is opening salons here today, our beautician is so happy!
We have an appointment on the 24th of the month, we really need haircuts especially DH and I need a tint as it's been about three months since we were last there. It will only be us there as our beautician will be working alone, it's not a big shop.

Did I mention my husband gave himself his second haircut the other day. It is far from perfect but it will do. He says it will be a long time before he goes to get a haircut. I can go a long time although I get tired of washing it if it gets too long because I have thick heavy hair.

i see from my stylists' instagram pages that they are back open as of last friday. i would love to get a freshened up trim and highlights but i will just wait it out for a month or so and see how things go. i have been reading that if cases keep going up they may have to enact another lockdown so i'd rather see how that plays out.

Our next door neighbor offered to cut my husband's hair as he cuts his own but we already had our appointments. I could wait also but my hair is really long and getting hard to wash and heavy like bbbearsmom! Our beautician is a very good friend, she always takes good care of us, so we will see.😄
