Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read.Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Well! That was a shock, opening the blinds by the roof of the garage, seeing a scattering of snow on it! 33 here right now, with a high of 42, but blustery. (of course!)
Gareth, we are to have freezes for the next many nights. The JBS plant here opened back up the other day too. Our county is leading the state for positives, and the state is going all out on testing, very high number of tests given. Event after event is canceling dates for this summer, and into the fall. The only thing going forward, right now is the Packer/NFL season. If they say no fans in the stadium, that will be the weirdest thing to watch this fall! My goodness it is cold!
Marsha, I am scratching my head over that too, about the state parks. I think I may have missed it, so I am sorry, but is your employer paying for the masks? As you mentioned the person making them is getting a few hundred dollars to make them, so I assume your boss is paying for them? About books, I started something by Danielle Steele, it was late last night when I started, but I am now at a point that nothing really interests me. That won't last too long.
Robin, I am going to one of the 2 well known wig shops in town, as soon as they are allowed to open up. It is fun looking at the wigs online, to get ideas, but I would never buy like that. I get a kick out of some women, when we watch a game show, with how they wear a wig, for one thing, the wig is so bad, you know it is a wig, and they just do not look real. I am wondering, when will you see Maddie again?
Anngie, what is up with this weather??? My gosh, with the cold temps and blustery winds, the guy on TV last night said he had to bring back the wind chill chart, he thought he was done with for the season, lol!!!! I bought 3 little Lavender trees that are made for patio's, and another flowering plant for patio's yesterday, and of course they had to be put inside for the night, and it looks like they will be coming in for around a week. LOL, it smelled so good in here, when I came out into the apartment this morning!!! I am wishing I could get to my salon, even for just a trim, my bangs are so long, but I don't dare trim them, I have done that before, and it did not turn out good.
Pinky, do you have the very cold temps too? I do plan on going to a wig shop, when they open. I wouldn't do it any other way. I had forgotten about Dolly Parton. She is a lover of wigs, isn't she? I think we would be shocked if she walked on stage without one on, we would not know who it is!!!! I am sure that in the beginning, when she first got so popular, the wigs were just something so she did not have to do her hair, but then got to be a trademark with her.
Carol, you have a DD like I do! She (the younger of the 2 daughters) is always right there, telling us when we should do this, or that. I do not know how we survived till she got old enough to lead us!!! My hair is short too, and in the very shaggy dog stage. But it is what it is! I have seen some actors who look awful too, so there is that. I am to the point in this pandemic that I do not care to here the daily stats anymore. What good does it do us? None whatsoever. Time to live our lives. Do what we can do to take care of ourselves, and don't worry about the other stuff.
Our weather seems to have jumped back to February. This is just crazy, and it is to be this cold for at least the next week.
I am truly worried about DH. He has been having some issues with jerking. As he sits in his chair, his legs move or jerk on their own. He was thinking it might be related to his back surgery, so was waiting till his apt on the 19th with the back surgeon to see what he thought. Then last night, it got out of control. Both his right arm and right leg were totally out of control, with the jerking. He was trying to settle down, while watching TV in his room, and could not, with that going on. It seemed that it went on for a long while. He took a muscle relaxer, but that did not help. I am having him call his family doctor this morning, to see what she thinks. I think he needs to see a Neurologist. Of course I googled it later, and there does not seem to be much they can do about that, except put the patient on antidepressants. Oh boy.
Not much going on here today. I know I will be walking laps in the apartment, lol. Did loose 2 pounds this week, so happy about that.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, we are cooler today, but no snow certainly, but I think Anngie said they were getting snow up north. She is about 200 miles north of me. As far as NY goes, our numbers are going down. The high number of deaths per day was about a month ago I think, at 799, and Wednesday it was about 225, so big difference. They are doing more testing, but whatever we are doing is working, even though there are new cases every day. I do hope that this does not continue for all that much longer, so that we can get back to having clients come in, and getting things moved through the courts.
Marsha, are you taking out your winter coats again? Hope you kept out in between coats.
I really have to get dressed and going, because I would like to leave the office early today, maybe DH and I will both leave around 3, we can forward the phones. I am waiting to get some pics of the people having dinner last night that I dropped off.
As far as seeing Maddie again, we are going in and bringing bagels and lox for breakfast on Sunday. I was going to have breakfast sent to them for DDIL's first Mother's Day, then DS said why don't we come in with it. I said if it was OK with them, it was certainly OK with me! They sent a little video of her yesterday, she was moving around a lot, so definitely growing up. When we go Sunday she will be just about a month old. I hope they let me come in often, even if DH does not come with me.

It was 32 degrees here this morning when we got up so very cool here as well and will be for the next several mornings. The sun is shining brightly now and no wind so it looks very nice and feels not too cold. We should get to 52 degrees today but could get some snow showers they are calling it tonight The first cornfield DH planted is just starting to poke out of the ground in places so keeping our fingers crossed for not to hard of a frost.
Karen---Hope your DH gets in soon to see what is going on, good that it will be getting checked out. I love Lavender, we had several lavender plants in our landscaping at our old house but after several years they died off. Not sure if they have a short life span or if it just was to dang cold in SD for them. I should find that out as I loved walking by them and getting a whiff. I had bought a small hibiscus tree last year which produced beautiful flowers. I just had it in a large pot as it would never withstand our bitter cold here. DH carried it to our basement for me last fall and I have it sitting by a window and have watered it all winter. I am hoping when this frost phase goes through I can take it back onto the deck and wait for it's beautiful flowers to show again this summer. It is on our back deck, well actually just a balcony and I am afraid if I put it out to soon I will forget about it or not realize it is suppose to get so cold and it won't make it so no rush. It has grown so tall I can't believe it and looks so healthy. Not sure if I will need to transplant it to a larger pot or what. Guessing I should google it.
Robin---What a special Mothers Day you will have by starting out the day with Maddie. What a sweet idea your DS had to come in and enjoy it with them.
On the nursing home topic---I heard a sad story on our local news channel this morning from Sioux Falls. A daughter of an older woman who was a resident in a nursing home was telling that her mother had passed away in the nursing home from COVID-19. The husband or father of this daughter had been allowed in to say his goodbye to his wife and was equipped with shield, mask and gloves. Turns out the husband has now tested positive also. Such a hard thing!!
I need to scram. The office and customers are calling my name. Have a great day friends!!

Karen - re the masks. We have 18 employees and we (boss and I) were talking about how we are confident in how we are staying safe at work but we hope that our employees are staying safe out of work. Then a friend of mine, an artist (she sometimes does artstreet) who moved away posted on FB that she has masks does anyone want? So I mentioned to my boss what if we got masks for everyone as a show of encouragement to be careful at home. She is making them to prevent boredom as she does not leave her house at all (high risk) and she was giving them to friends and nursing homes, etc., basically stash busting her quilt materials. I told her we would pay for them. So we bought 10 and I put them out on a Thursday afternoon. By the time I came in Friday morning they were gone. So we bought 10 more and they took a couple days but they are gone. Boss said he never got one, order another 10 and he'd be sure to take at least one and we'll put them out. Whatever isn't taken he can take home - he has 4 boys, 3 of them in college. So his family will use them. Where did you buy your plants?
Robin - since I'm the only one that leaves the house, I'm wearing my in-between coat and it was plenty warm enough. 40 degrees in May doesn't feel the same as 40 degrees in November. Dh's winter coat is a 2 part (and he lost the inner fleece so he uses another fleece) and I saw him wearing the shell yesterday.
Pinky - I usually like hibiscus in pots on my porch. I never thought about bringing them in over winter. They are in rather large pots, though. I'm not sure I'll get any this year as I usually shop for them in May and this year I don't know what will be with garden plants.
My mother said she spoke with a friend who moved into an independent living facility about 9 months ago, so she has her own apartment and a kitchen but eats some meals communally. They are all confined to their apartments and not allowed to leave and she feels like she is in prison and regrets that she didn't stay in her home. My mother is now even more nervous about moving to any kind of care facility. She is talking about getting help in her home now. I have mixed feelings. I realize she is struggling but I worry about someone coming in.
DD's last final is this morning. Starting in about 20 minutes. I promised her Olive Garden and that Chocolate Pie I never made for her before Passover, so I guess that will be this weekend. Maybe sunday so I can avoid cooking on Mother's Day. Then we will have to sit down and figure out what the "rules of engagement" will be for the next month if she stays here until summer classes start. We have been "ignoring her" for classes so she has not been asked to help with any chores or anything, but when she isn't in class I would like her to pitch in a bit, maybe do some cooking, certainly clean up her room.

It was 38º so cold here too this morning when I got up.Tomorrow morning’s forecast is for only 28º Looks nice looking out. Sun is shining but it's windy. Only going to be in the 50's today.
My hair is getting so shaggy too. I've worn my hair with it cut over my ears for so many years. Now my hair covers up most of my ears unless I tuck it behind. My neckline is the worst as far as shaggy goes. I wonder how much longer until the salons are open again. My hairdresser is so popular so she has a long list of clients. How will she decide who to schedule first? It would be nice if it went by seniority since I've went to her for so many years.
Karen, how is your DD that was so sick? Sounds like a very good idea that DH calls his Dr today.
It was 45 years ago today that I walked into my first WW meeting. It's so hard to believe it's been that many years now. I certainly would never have thought I'd still be with WW this many years later let alone have made it a career! I often wonder where I'd be today if it wasn't for WW. I lost 75 1/2# to reach goal. I've had my ups and downs through the years but now I've maintained around 82# for many years.

We had a thunderstorm last night. I was sleeping soundly when my phone rang. For some reason, I thought it was our landline (yes, we still have one) which didn't make sense because it is not on my nightstand. Anyway, I knocked my cell and a knick-knack off the nightstand. The call was a weather warning. We got over an inch of rain. It is cooler and cloudy today, but, hey, no snow.
Karen, I hope your DH can get to a doctor soon and find out what is going on.
I didn't get as much walking in this week, but I had a good weigh in.
Robin, great that you are going to see Maddie!

Gareth - 82# wow!!!!
My stylist has been rescheduling appointments all throughout. I think he was pretty smart about that. He has already contacted me twice to push out my appointment. That means whenever we do open up he will have all of his regular clients already scheduled on his books.

Carol, that is one of the reasons I don't leave my cell phone in the bedroom at night, you never know when those things are going to go off, of course DH has had things go off in the middle of the night. I can never remember what he has fooled around with that he didn't know how to set right, either with our smart things or alexa.
Marsha, maybe it is because I was married for a long time when I became a mother, but I added Mother's Day to one of the days during the year that I do not cook. I made family brunches for the years before my DS was born, so I gave that up. I guess maybe now that I am a grandmother I will get it started again, haha! Now that I think about it, maybe I should make a blintze souffle to bring in, although DS said that they didn't want too much because DDIL, of course, is worrying about losing the baby weight. She looks great already, in my mind, but she of course doesn't think so, even though DS tells her she looks great. Good thing you worked out the coat issue. I always say it makes a big difference whether it is 40 degrees in the morning, or 40 degrees in the late afternoon. However, seeing as you aren't out that long anyway, not a big deal.
Marsha, such a tough decision with your DM, I am sure she can use help, but then having people come in who then go home are a problem.
Karen, I maybe your DH should go to an urgent care now, if he is getting that kind of reaction.
Pinky, I hope this cold snap is not doing any damage to your planting. It was definitely not that cold by us this morning, but it is only 52 now.
My DH has been having problems with his hip that are giving him pain when he walks, so he is out now having an MRI. He had a teleconference with the orthopedist this morning, and is supposed to go see him Wednesday, but maybe will have another teleconference after he reads the MRI.

We’re still on for a dusting of snow! Can hardly wait to wake up and see that.
Karen, I wish DH could get an appointment today. I can’t even imagine what could be causing this. That poor man. Congrats on the 2lb. loss! What did you do differently?
Robin, I’m so glad you’ll get to see DGD on Mother’s Day! You’re “first” as a grandmother! Even though I don’t see my DDIL we always send her a Mother’s Day card. I just want her to know we’re thinking of her and appreciate her.
Marsha, OK, I have to ask - how do you lose a part of a coat? lol! My DH can’t find something that’s looking him in the face! I’m not kidding! That’s a tough one with DM! We, and they, so much want their independence, yet it becomes more difficult as time so on. Would she need 24/7? Maybe having someone come in would work for now. I wonder what the cost difference would be.
Pinky, I don’t know what made me think of this, (plants maybe) but, what did you end up doing with the old house? You probably told us but I forgot.
Gareth, do you have a contact number for your stylist? Maybe it would be good to call her so she knows you’ll want an appointment ASAP. Congrats on your 45 years with WW! 82# is remarkable! Have you ever been featured in one of their “success stories”? You should be.
Carol, congrats on the good weigh-in!
Mother’s Day will be quieter than normal this year. I got a call from DS2 (the one that lives 35 min. from us) and he MAY have to quarantine! Last week his DGF’s father was rushed to the ER with symptoms of a heart attack. After having many tests, (he’s 60) they found nothing wrong with his heart. For whatever reason, they tested him for covid-19 and tested positive! He had no other symptoms other than the feeling of a heart attack coming on. So, DS’s DGF and her sister stayed with their mother so they could be affected too! So now, my son could be. So, obviously, I won’t be seeking them. OMG
Now this is something that has never happened before! At 4:44am this morning we heard a loud buzzer seemingly coming from our clock radio - which wasn’t on. DH checked his iPhone and there was a “missing child alert” on it! It woke us up out of sound sleep and scared the heck out of us. Later in the morning, sure enough, others on Facebook had the same thing happen! (at least I know we’re not crazy). It was an abduction and the child’s in danger. It’s very strange to have a clock radio buzz when it’s not even on.
I think it’s time to bury my head in the sand.

Anngie - I'm sure that fleece will show up somewhere. It's probably buried under a pile of junk in the garage. My mother doesn't need full time help. She can't see, so she needs someone to sort her pills, sort and read her mail, drive her to the grocery store, vacume on the weeks her cleaning person doesn't come. That sort of thing. She doesn't need help bathing or dressing (maybe washing her clothes though since she can't see the stains and doesn't know things are dirty!). So she doesn't need assisted living. That is more help than she needs or wants. but it is hard for her to live on her own now. Our concern is someone coming into her house now who has been out in the world and exposed possibly to the virus.

Oops Gareth, I skipped congratulating you on your terrific loss. It's not the losing part that is as hard as the maintaining.
Anngie, it seems that people have different kind of symptoms, but it can be that the feeling they say you have in your chest, like someone is standing on you, is what he thought was a heart attack. I hope he is OK. That was why my DS self-quarantined, they were exposed to his DSIL the day before she developed symptoms. They both tested negative 2 weeks ago, which was way after they saw her, and she is fine now. This is how it spreads so slowly. People end up having it when they don't realize they do, then maybe are not as careful as they should be. Who knows.
I can totally understand losing only the fleece part. He must have unzipped it one day and then either left it somewhere, or, as you said, misplaced it. I have the outside shell part of a jacket here that I don't ever remember buying for anyone. Either one of my kids brought it home from school, or someone left it here. In the meantime, it makes a great dog walking jacket for me.

Robin, I think it's a misconception that maintaining is harder than losing. I really don't see it as doing anything different from when I was losing. The only thing difference is that I get more points. I still track, weigh and measure my food. And no, I don't always do it perfectly! I just don't look at it anymore as being on or off WW. I've learned to accept it as a lifestyle.
