Good Morning, WW Friends ~
Happy Mother's Day!! I slept unbelievably well last night. We recently started receiving a cable channel that shows old movies. Last night we watched "Dial M For Murder". We were both Alfred Hitchcock fans back in the day, and enjoyed the movie very much. I went right to sleep around 11, and didn't wake until DH got up around 7. I don't remember the last time I slept all through the night!
We had the last freezer left-overs of my Breakfast Casserole,so it will be time to put those ingredients back on the shopping list so I can make another one. I already have the turkey sausage in the downstairs freezer. We have started prep on our ribs for today's dinner. I have read quite a bit about doing them in the Instant Pot, and learned much. I thawed them overnight, then washed them this morning and removed the membrane off the back (never knew about that before) and have treated them with a dry rub. Every recipe I found was for 1.5 lbs, and I have 3.5, so I guess I will cook them in two batches, unless they are a good fit when the time comes. i am really excited about "learning" to cook ribs at home.
Pam ~ So sorry you had a “down” day the other day. But that happens to all of us sometimes. You sound considerably better yesterday. I love when that happens. Planning a project together sounds like an awesome idea. DH and I do our best work when we combine forces.
Ann ~ DH usually takes me out for Mother’s Day too, but this year is definitely different. In a way it makes me sad. OTOH, we always went to his VBF’s restaurant, which is now closed (probably for good). I found myself looking at my cell phone when I got up this morning, because DH’s VBF always left me a message during the night. That is another “new normal” that I am having to get used to.
Judy ~ Hope you have a fabulous Mother’s Day!!
I still have to put myself together and then may head out for a walk. DH has gone to run his errands. We will have warmer temps today (and no snow). In fact, our week is supposed to warm up (thank goodness).
BBL. Make a great day!!

Happy Mother’s Day everyone and Ann, you are a fabulous mama to Lula!
I made my favorite award winning chili chili in the instant pot yesterday so we’ll have that for lunch today. Breakfast was eggs, bacon and light muffins. DH suggested takeout tonight from a favorite place. I’m game!
I just got got off an hour’s video chat with DS, DDIL and Baby Aidan. Fun to see them. They sent me a gift card for a favorite restaurant at the Cape. We will wait till they open since their location on the water is beautiful and takeout lobsters aren’t as much fun.
Sue, I’m a huge Hitchcock fan, too. Loved them all. We are nearly done withe Seasin 3 of The Wire. I was shocked by what happened in the last episode we watched where ....spoiler alert...a lead character was killed. I know Pam and Ann have seen it. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Also, thanks for mentioning those good Jello SF puddings. They are saving me from eating ice cream and cookies!
I am get into my book club book The Splendid and the Vile. Churchill was such a character and great leader.
Have a good day all. I’ll bbl.

((((((((((Sue))))))))))) sending virtual hugs your way. I'm sure you and DH so miss your friend and his restaurant. So sad. On a happier note, I'm sure the ribs will come out fantastic. We want a full report I know what you mean by 'combined forces'...that works best for us as well. Judy thanks for that. We took miss LuLa for a 2.4 mile walk. She insisted LOL. When she wants out she 'talks to us' and goes by the door. Too funny. So happy you are enjoying your instant pot as well. We love ours. Carl follows a recipe for chili where I just 'wing it'. I love hot and spicy so that's what I concentrate on most Your meals all sound great...especially TAKE OUT How nice you got to 'chat' with family. I bet you and DH can't WAIT to use that gift certificate at the Cape Enjoy book. Carl is out mowing our neighbor's lawn. Will CBL.

Hi All ~
We are having a wonderful day! The sun has finally come out to shine and the rain has stopped.
We had a light lunch of cottage cheese and peach slices, then watched "Chicago" (the movie) on TV. We both remembered that we tried to watch it once on a cruise ship in the Caribbean during a terribly rough night on shipboard. After dinner and the live show, they asked us all to return to our cabins as the water got progressively rougher. They opened up the film library at no charge, and we 'rented' a couple of movies. One of them was "Chicago". Unfortunately we both fell asleep and never did get to watch it. But today we got a chance and we really enjoyed it. Especially DH - who lamented that he didn't learn to appreciate musicals until just the last couple of years. SO today was a perfect time for us to watch it together.
This morning I made a (WW) Barley Tex-Mex Salad to have with our ribs dinner. That has been a favorite of ours for most of the years I've been in WW. It provides our grain and veggies so it makes a complete meal. DH has gone off to Kroger for his weekly shopping - and I have put the ribs in the Instant Pot. I applied a dry rub earlier this morning - and after they cook I will put them on a pan, brush them lightly with BBQ sauce and "glaze" them in the oven. Even with the trivet in place, all four sections fit into the Instant Pot, so I won't have to do them in separate batches. I still have all the ingredients to make the Bulgur/Mango/Avocado salad later this week.
Our plans for today include an early supper, then "Chicago PD" then local & world news, then "60 Minutes" followed by "Forrest Gump". We saw "Forrest Gump" when it first came out - in fact we saw it the night before DH went into the hospital for his open heart surgery (aortic valve replacement) in July of 1994. It just came out that weekend, and he was anxious to see it. Wow! I really am on a "trip down memory lane" today. Thanks for indulging me...... We were just reading an article in our Sunday paper about how important TV has become to all of us since social isolation began. We definitely find that to be true at our house. We are just grateful that they are putting on good reruns shows and movies, as it helps us to entertain ourselves.
Hope you are all having a wonderful day!!

Sue so happy that you and DH enjoyed watching the movie together. We watched that before and also enjoyed it Sunny here also but when that wind blows it's a killer...especially if you are walking the WRONG WAY lol. We did manage to get another walk in and will go one more time before the end of the day. Our dinner is almost ready...and so am I That is great that they all fit in the instant pot and you can cook them all together. If I don't make it back into the Cafe...hope y'all enjoy a nice Mother's Day.

Happy Mother's Day to all!
As Fr. Brent said at this morning's parking lot service, most women have been a mother to someone at sometime in their life. It's in our nature to nurture, right?
After online Mass and the parking lot service, I picked up a big box of fried chicken and we headed to DD's house. The weather was gorgeous--sunny, breezy and low 70's and NO GNATS!!! We had a lovely time visiting and eating all sorts of off-plan foods and ended up staying until nearly 3:00pm. We came home and I took a nap in the lazyboy. DD3 called and I face-timed with her family. Little Leah is talking a blue streak and is so much fun. Madison is starting to learn to read and seems to be soaking up words so quickly, DD bought her some sight word flash cards and she loves them. M has always loved books and wants very much to be able to read on her own. After our chat, I didn't really feel like walking, but did for a while anyway, since I wanted to see what came next with my audio book. Some steps are better than none!
DH had tried calling the cats in, but neither showed up when he shook the treat can, which is unusual. After my walk, I went looking for them and finally found them crouched under one of the citrus trees at the end of the garden. Since they were in a hunting stance, I ducked down to see what critter they had cornered, fully expecting a mouse, bird or lizard. Nope, a snake, coiled up between them! I got DH and then coaxed both of them away by calling and using a long piece of bamboo to push them back, since I didn't want to get anywhere near the snake, even though it appeared to be a non-venomous King snake. DH captured both cats and brought them inside and we left the snake to slither back from whence it came. Our last cat, Minuit, got bitten by a non-venomous snake and it left a nasty, bloody wound and required a vet visit. Not on my agenda for a Sunday night, thank you!
After our large lunch, neither of us was very hungry for dinner. DH had some squash soup and chickpea salad donated by DD1. Thus far, I haven't been hungry, but may have a boiled egg or some cheese, just so I don't wake in the middle of the night starving. I'm saving my half of the squash soup for tomorrow's lunch.
We discussed TV fare after 60 Minutes ended and decided on music and reading, instead. I need to get busy on my book or it will get repossessed before I finish it. I'm going to get jammified first, though.
Enjoy your Sunday evening!
Sue - Chicago is a favorite of mine, but I love musicals! Just the thought of those ribs makes my mouth water. (((Hugs))) for missing DH's VBF and all the fun times and traditions you had with him.
Ann - My mom used to walk a mile to school and she and my aunt, who was 8 years younger, would tell us how Mama sheltered Aunt Bette inside the front of her coat and walked backwards when the wind was bad.
Judy - Thank goodness those video chats keep us close to our "away" kids! I hope someday we can get back to eating in restaurants again.

Hey all,
It was a nice day. I managed to get out on this windy day for another 2 mile walk with the dogs. We had our Italian meal from Ciao Bella’s midday and it was so good. I had a haddock over angel hair in a garlicky sauce and plum tomatoes topped with mozzarella. I ate only half and then at dinner time I had a cup of chili and gave the rest of my pasta dish to DH. I had a sf chocolate pudding for dessert.
DD called in very good spirits. She’s been keeping busy refinishing furniture and painting outdoor cabinets. Her place has a little outdoor kitchen. She says she enjoying learning how to use power tools and wants to take a furniture class when this pandemic ends. Definitely not her mother’s daughter but daddy’s girl for sure. I’m happy to see her find a hobby she likes. She tends to be a restless person always on the go.
DS called again and we had dinner together virtually. The baby’s a riot. He had his veggies all over his face and he really is engaged with the FaceTime. When we talk, he “talks” looking right into the camera and I swear he truly believes he’s right in the conversation. It’s very funny.
We had had a Sunday night gospel sing for the ukulele tonight. Amazing Grace, When the Saints Come Marching In, Hallelujah and lots of others. It’s always fun, and I’m getting to know the group as we chat a bit after lessons.
Sue, I’m sure you must really miss your friend. There are so man6nhard “firsts” when you lose a dear friend. Hope the ribs were good!
Pam, I felt for your friend and her situation with the stepmother. I’m glad things worked out for her.
Ann, glad you got out walking!
Night all!

Oh, do any of you like Vionic shoes? They are 40% off and I snagged a pair of new sneakers. I am staying hopeful that new pink sneakers will jazz up a summer outfit if we ever get out of here. This has been one of my very first "non-essential" purchases since the pandemic other than a couple books, but to my mind, they are very essential!
