Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read.Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Cold & cloudy.
Robin, I am thinking whoever is posting weather predictions for Google news, needs more education. I honestly read all about the bomb cyclone the East Coast was in store for, for the weekend. I think I will have that feeling, (going past your airport), if we were to drive by Lambeau field this season, if they do not allow fans in the stadium....very weird to see. Awww, you got to feed Maddie!!! That was so nice of DDIL to pump so you could. How are they doing now, without the nurse? I bet they like being on their own. Lol, I agree about the hand lotion! Usually by this time of year I do not need any, not so this year. Guess I should have invested in that!! The TV, from the pictures I took of it at the store, is a Samsung. That is the TV we have now, and have bought before. I was nervous at first, with DD and her whole family up here, but we did all keep our distance. Same with DD2 and her DH yesterday. I am keeping my fingers crossed there wasn't any unwelcome company that tagged along with them all.
Carol, I feel the same way, with grandchildren being born, and growing up, we have all turned into a bunch of huggers, so I do not even want to be around them now, and not be able to hug them, and give them a peck on the check. We face timed with DGC that did not come yesterday, the ones we are more hands on with, and it was cute, as DGD had to show us all the strings of lites she has in her room. Just like if we went over there, she liked to take us up to her room to show us the latest. So precious! I am starting to hear more and more of churches opening in 2 weeks also. Our Governor mandate goes to May 26th, so that is right after the Memorial day weekend, so we will have to watch and see how that works, with the churches.
Funny story about something DH said last night. Remember how I told you all about the huge torte he brought home Saturday? I could not wait to have it, so we sliced it frozen and had it. Then I bundled it back up and had him take it down to the freezer. Last night he said, why did we put it in the freezer; it was supposed to be for your Mother's Day celebration! I laughed and told him that is what I wanted him to do, as I can not eat that every day! Maybe Friday I will have him bring it up and we will have a slice. I guess I played a joke on him, with the non fat greek yogurt. I have been doing what Marsha suggested, with the yogurt, and a little of the SF cheesecake pudding mix. I take it up a little by putting a few pieces of pecan in it, and a drizzle of pure vanilla extract, it is so good! Yes, I do count the pecans, as 1 pt. Last night he saw me eating it, with chocolate pudding mix in it, and it was ok. I gave him a taste, and he thought it was awful!!! I said I guess it is an acquired taste. Lol.
I ordered new sheet sets for DH from Kohl's online, and saved (according to them) $167!!!! I can imagine our bill tomorrow!!!!
Getting tired of bringing in all the balcony plants every night, I think I saw that by the end of the week we should be done with that.
Hi to everyone, have a nice day!

Hi to all!! Not sure if any of you will have seen my late post last night between the fact it was late and also made it be a 2 pager for the weekend. No need to go back to read it-----I just wanted to wish all you lovely ladies a Happy Mothers Day and said actually as late as it was I should have said I hope you all had a nice Mothers Day. I sure did---not exciting but nice. DGS who is 11 called me right away in the morning to wish me a a nice day and then of course I talked to DD then too and the rest of her family so chatted with all of them for close to an hour. DS#2 and DDIL and DGC stopped by with flowers for me and we visited for awhile in the late morning. I did run up to our neighboring town and picked up some groceries. So nice to just get out of the house for awhile. DH and I then went for a drive to look at crops and just look around. DS#1, DDIL and DGC brought pizza from my favorite pizzeria over for me for supper. DS's and we are together all the time anyway with work but we do try hard to stand our distances and be careful so we did not gather all together like we usually would. Oh yes I also called DMIL to wish her a Happy Mothers Day. All was different but good.
Robin---So happy you were able to feed Maddie and spend time with her and your children yesterday on your first Mothers Day as a Grandma!!!
Karen---I"m sure you are excited about your new TV. Hope all goes well with your DH's doctor appt. today.
Thankfully we did not receive any snow other than a few flakes that melted right away. It has still been cold as in 32 degrees Sunday morning and 29 this morning. Praying this does not hurt the crops any. One more night of low temps to worry about and then should warm up. Sunny blue skies this morning so that is nice but sounds like rain in the forecast off and on all week. So seed going out will be hit and miss if that is the case.
Have a great day everyone!

Our Mother’s Day dinner plans fell apart. I ordered on Saturday set up for Sunday 6pm pickup at Olive Garden. DH and DD went to get our food at 6 and the line of cars was ridiculous. After 20 minutes dh left dd in the car and walked to the front to find a person and found out they were still preparing the dinners scheduled for 5:00. So we wouldn’t have gotten our 6:00 ordered meal until probably 7:30. I told him to cancel and they went to Noodles and picked up food. A little disappointing, plus I promised dd so we will try again for Olive Garden next weekend. Apparently their ap didn’t think to stop accepting orders when they had hit their kitchen capacity. We had chocolate pie that I made, and that was way too good. (Do you think I can cut up the pie and freeze the portions? Right now there is half a chocolate pie in my fridge and it is way too good).
I spent a lot of yesterday afternoon working on a new mask design. DD wanted one that fits her face so I worked through a pattern for that. I actually like that pattern better and it was faster to make. I also made one for ds. Tonight I have to make a mask for future ddil (can I call her dfdil?) and I want them to have them by Friday when they close on their house. She wants a pleated one. I’m starting to enjoy the sewing process again. These are nice projects because they are small and quick and involve minimal cutting of patterns which is the part I hate. I ordered some sewing machine oil which should be here on Tuesday. I'm going to go through my whole machine because it hasn't been oiled in probably 25 years, then I will be able to start working on that baby blanket.
Karen – I think dd’s finals actually went better than they would have gone had she still been at school. There was a bit of a “team effort” and the professors were allowing more time. She finished the semester with an A, an AB, and a B and took one class with the special Covid19 Pass/Fail they were offering. She didn’t do as badly in that class as she thought she might but it is enough that the grade would impact her GPA a bit and the special p/f won’t factor into gpa. Can’t you order that tv from Best Buy online or by phone?
Re the overnight weather alerts, they can be annoying, but if a tornado is heading my way at 2am I sure want to be awakened to run into the basement!
DD applied for a job as a contact tracer. It’s a work from home job. She didn’t really meet the qualifications they described but I suppose if they need people they will talk to people who aren’t perfect.

Hello everyone! I hope you all enjoyed Mother’s Day. It was a little cool, though, because it was so breezy. I smiled when the NE was supposed to get a bomb cyclone! Never heard of that and we never got one! We did have a very windy day last week.
Karen, I’m glad you’re getting your TV! One of ours is a Samsung and have never had any problems with it. I have to laugh at Kohl’s sometimes! They have quite a marketing dept. don’t they! Or, they’re inadvertently proving to us they have a large mark-up!
Robin, so nice that you got to feed the baby! Before you know it she’ll be using a sippy cup!
Carol, yes, DS and DGF (they now live together) are both self quarantining. They have a few more days to go.
We finally found a place to get ice cream yesterday and it was great!

We both got a pecan turtle Blizzard from Dairy Queen. It was very good. We got food Friday night from Chick-Fil-A and DH said the line was huge, but they aren't allowing eat-in customers yet. Doesn't sound like Olive Garden was quite prepared for Mother's Day. Sorry you had to go for something else, Marsha.
DD and DSIL got me a Kohl's gift card. I have one from Christmas with money left on it so I need to do some shopping.
Marsha, good grades for DD. Is she taking summer classes, too?
Both of our TVs are Samsung. We haven't had any problems at all with them.

Cool morning in the 40's when I walked. Nice since there wasn't much of a wind unlike yesterday. I'm looking forward to 70's later in the week.
Sounds like everyone had a nice Mother's Day. DGD and youngest DGS came with DS when he brought dinner. We sat around the kitchen table so we really weren't socially distancing. No hugs though. Ribs were really good. DH usually doesn't care all that much for them but he sure liked these. DGD had made frosted sugar cookies for dessert.
DH got a call yesterday morning from his hairdresser setting up an appt. for June 1st for his haircut. I thought it a rather strange time to be calling with it being Sunday morning and Mother's Day though I'd love a call from mine no matter when it was! DH doesn't really even need a haircut with what little hair he has left but he complains about it tickling his ears. I'm the one that needs a haircut. It's bugging me more every day. Almost tempted to steal his appt. Years ago she was my hairdresser too. I'll wait though for mine. I've heard though that they won't be washing your hair that you'll need to do it before going. Also they won't use a blowdryer either. Oh well, I'd do anything just for a haircut. Just nice though having it blow dried and styled. Life as we knew it has changed. Will it ever really be normal again?! I can't imagine now not ever being paranoid about germs. I'm in no hurry to be around crowds of people not that I ever really was. I've never liked being in crowds.
Karen, I love the sheets I got from Amazon for only $19.99 Love the feel of them. My only complaint is the bottom sheet is a little big so it doesn't fit as taut as I like it.
Pinky, I always check the previous day's thread for any late comers before even looking at the day's new thread. Hopefully snow and freezing temps are done for now.
Robin, what a special Mother's Day you had with that new grand baby!
Marsha, your chocolate pie sounds so good! What recipe did you end up using?
Anngie, where did you end up getting ice cream from?
Carol, so nice we have FaceTime to keep in touch with family. We'd really be isolated now without it.

Gareth - I googled and used a recipe on Tastes Better From Scratch. Really not hard and I used a store bought graham cracker crust.
Carol - dd is registered for 3 classes this summer. I think that's a lot, but as she put it, what else does she have to do? If it turns out to be too much she'll drop one. All online of course. She still hasn't decided whether or not she wants to go back to Madison. I think in her mind it will be more fun than home but when she really thinks about it she knows that she won't have a lot of friends there and she'd be stuck in her apartment with her roommate, and she has to weigh whether that is better or worse than being stuck at home with your parents.

Knock on wood....I have a little quiet time so I thought I would jump in.
Pinky, my goodness, I am sorry! Shame on me for missing a 2 pager! Your day sounded very nice. I have a question: Your DD posted a picture of you, on FB, and there were comments that your DD looks exactly like you. (and I might add, you are such a cutie! I got a kick out of seeing you are short, and your DH is tall!!), anyway, you should post a picture of you two together, it would be neat to see! Also, I love how the younger of the 2 boys seems to be just taken by you!!! Is he your shadow when you are together?
Marsha, on the subject of Olive Garden last night. DSIL ordered Saturday for Sunday at 5 pm pickup from Texas Roadhouse. He went over there, right before 5, and the parking lot was stuffed! He got their order at 5:40, took it home and all the food was cold. That reminds me of during normal times, not to go out to eat on Mother's day, since that is a crazy busy time. About going into Best Buy, we need to buy a printer also, so we want to shop for that, and we also need to get a router and WIFI box. Since we can go in the store, I would prefer that, over online shopping. Then we have to set up the delivery date and time for the TV. Way to go, for your DD!!! I wouldn't doubt that she ends up staying home, as I think she might feel safer at your house.
Anngie, lol, I remember hearing about the bomb cyclone going up the East coast for the holiday weekend, thinking oh boy, that will ruin a lot of plans! I am happy to hear that once again the weather guys dropped the ball. I think it was ABC national news that I saw it on. HAHAHA, about Kohl's!!! I know!!! I get a kick out of how, even online, they circle the total of the savings you got, like; hum, so it was THAT expensive?? I did have $10. in Kohl's cash waiting for me, then of course they do the 20% off, bla, bla, bla. And they wonder why their sales have been taking a big hit? I heard that Penney's is suffering badly too, that they will be closing certain stores, but they have not said which ones. What did you have, for your ice cream?
Carol, you are killing me!!!! That ice cream is exactly what I would have gotten!!!! Oh my....SATAN GET BEHIND ME!!!!! Lol!! We too have a Samsung, but were having so many issues, a couple months back, plus I want a smart TV, so we can cut the cable cord, I am tired of paying that huge bill! We just have to ask them tomorrow, if DH TV in his room can be on Hulu too, since that is not a smart TV....DH is worried about that, since he watches so many cable shows at night.
Gareth, yum, sounds like your meal was so good!!! All I had this morning was a banana, so all this talk about food is getting me hungry. OMG!!! I had not heard that about when salons open up....with my hair so thin, I always need it blown and styled. Crap!!! This is not going to be good. Well then, now that I think of it, our bill should be smaller then, right? Then a smaller tip too!!! It all goes hand in hand.
Ran to the store (different one) to get the things I did not get with my online order yesterday. oh, DH is home, gotta go!

Sounds like almost everyone ended up with a nice Mother's Day. Marsha, I know a lot of people were complaining about the Mother's Day food orders, it seemed to have happened a lot. One I hear was supposed to take a few names for each time slot and ended up getting 35, instead of something like 5. Of course everyone was ordering out for Mother's Day, except us.
Karen, I have a cake left over from yesterday that I am going to slice up and freeze. It is a marble loaf, so should be easy. I don't want to leave it around because I will chip away at it.
Pinky, sounds like you had a nice day too. I could have gone for pizza yesterday, but we ended up making grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches. I wasn't crazy about the soup I bought though. I usually like pea soup, so when I saw it, I bought it, but wasn't great.
Anngie, I googled that cyclone thing, it ended up that it was out in the Atlantic and did catch New England, so they had some bad weather, but looked like it must have been the outer edges of the storm.
Karen, that's what you have to remember when you hear east coast, the east coast is pretty big, and very often it doesn't hit everyone, or goes out to sea before it comes up north. That's how sometimes Boston gets hit, they are further east from us. Anngie is basically directly north of us, so that brings colder temperatures.
Yesterday, when the DDIL's were talking, they were saying that as things start to open up a bit, although they aren't going to open up a lot, it would be nice to be able to get out of the city. I texted DS about the idea that we could clear out both bedrooms upstairs, and they could come out for a few days at a time. I will see if they decide to do that. They could sit outside, take walks in the parks that are open, DS can even play golf with his friends who live here. They can bring him in to the town course as a guest. He cannot get residency status here, but maybe he could go with DH too, if DH is feeling better and can play. They'll think about it. I did it only by text yesterday, but will talk to him this week one day.

It took me so long to get my post up, everyone jumped in. The mail came, I had some phone calls, all sorts of stuff.
Karen, forgot to say we have that 65 inch Samsung Smart TV. I guess if they let limited people in the store, and everyone is wearing a mask, it's not a big deal. I don't think the Best Buy I ever go to is crowded. The is one line for all cashiers, so I guess they would keep that with 6 ft markers.
Carol, a pecan turtle blizzard sounds great. I ended up not going out for Carvel. I was pretty stuffed for some reason after dinner, and didn't want anything more.
Gareth, my hair definitely needs a cut, but because it is getting dry on the ends. I know that all the women with short hair are complaining, then of course all those who get their hair colored. Maybe trim your DH's hair then go grab his appointment. They were just talking on the news this morning about how people were handling things, the red state/blue state thing, but then were saying that Iowa really didn't make sense, with all the cases and the food processing plants, and what is going to open.

Well, that was our ice cream treat until Father's Day. It was very good though.
DH started going bald years ago. He didn't want to be one of those older men with a comb-over so he started having it clipped all over real short. Maybe a buzz cut? He still has hair, just very short. Anyway, he had bought some clippers and a couple of weeks ago he decided he couldn't wait for barber shops to open so he clipped it himself. I had to do the back for him. It turned out pretty good. I don't think I've ever been so excited about a hair appointment. Friday is when I go.
I've really been going through hand lotion, too.
