...If you woke up this more with a slight sore throat?
(Not me)
Eventually we will get a cold, a sore throat, a little bug.
Do we immediately quarantine the whole house for 14 days, call all of the people we've seen in the last 48 hours (or more?). and tell them they need to quarantine for 14 days?
So everyone is off of work for 2 weeks and then I find out, it was just a common cold and not covid?
I can't imagine how this is going to work.

i don't know how it is in your county, but in our county they have said the following:
Free COVID-19 Testing We strongly encourage all LA County Residents who are interested in being tested to first contact their Primary Care Provider or Healthcare Center about receiving a test at their facility. If you do not have access to this care or are unable to contact them, free testing is available across the County of Los Angeles. Priority is given for those who meet criteria below in accordance with new State guidelines:
Symptomatic persons with the following symptoms: Fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat and new loss of taste or smell Asymptomatic persons: Persons over age 65 Those with a chronic medical conditions Essential workers, which includes: Social service employees; Critical government personnel; Health care professionals; Grocery and food service workers; Utility and other public employees This is in addition to testing of symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals in congregate institutional settings. For answers to frequently asked questions about COVID-19 testing, click here.
For LA County Residents, there are now four types of testing sites; each has their own registration process.
For those sites not operated by LA County or LA City, the County has oversight and regular engagement with its partners operating the sites to support meeting patient needs, managing logistics, and serving as a resource.
At all testing sites, testing is by appointment ONLY.

so i guess if it were me, i'd check the county and city websites to see if there is any option for testing if i'm starting to come down with any of the symptoms.
edit to add: also if it were me, any symptoms including sore throat, i would definitely self-quarantine and meanwhile also contact the places to get an appointment to be tested so we can rule it out or know if i have it.

I don't know. I mean, son and I both have allergies, and DH works in a chemical plant (that's less than a mile away). We always have some form of sneezing, sniffles, occasional sore throat or cough going on. I think I'd maybe "does this feel any different than the normal allergies" for a day or two before worrying too much.

that's true, i should caveat mine with that too. a little sore throat would likely not worry me too much because it could be dry air, allergies, etc.
but on the other hand, i'd hate the thought that i was someone who only got mild symptoms of the virus and yet here i am running around spreading it to others.
i guess the main thing would be, wear a mask if out and about only on necessary outings, wash hands often, and be aware if the sore throat worsens and turns into a cough and fever.

I think I'd maybe "does this feel any different than the normal allergies" for a day or two before worrying too much. What do we do in that day or 2? Stay home? Go to work and risk spread if we had mild beginning symptoms? Of course wear a mask. I read something today written by a virologist. Everything we are doing is only slowing the spread so the hospitals don't get overwhelmed, in the end there will be the same number of cases and the same number of deaths.

With the new normal if you don't feel well the first thing you think is Covid. We do that as well as people we know, guess just human nature.
I asked the nurse at our doctor's office what we should do if we are ill or have questions, she gave me the name and number to call that is associated with our health care system that we should call to ask what we should do. It is staffed by people who can answer your questions as you stated above. Also if you have a port associated with your doctor's office it should have information on what to do as ours does, I found this on the port after talking to the nurse.
I have passed this information to other people to share with people they know.
Hope this helps!

In addition to what I posted above: I wrote the name which is called Caregiver here for our health system and the number down on paper, showed it to my husband and told him where to find this information (on our calendar) in case I'm to sick to tell him what to do.
Print out your information on where to get help in your area, share it with everyone in your house and let them know where it's at as I did here in case of emergency! Our neighbors wife (her husband had Covid) did have to call to see what she should do for him as he was critically ill, she was able to get the help she needed through the Caregiver number for him as he couldn't even get out of bed!
As the graph Fullmahina posted said we may get a big second wave. Makes sense this could happen with all the crazy things people are doing, not wearing masks, socializing etc.!
We were at the beach last week, about a hundred people were out of cars, not us, only two had masks and they were socializing like normal! Don't they understand our NEW NORMAL???
It should be interesting this Memorial Day week-end as we are a big resort town and many people will be here.
Stay safe πΊπΈ

Fin,
I've read articles and heard on TV we are having a hard time transitioning from our prior life before the pandemic into a NEW NORMAL as our governor's open up our states. It's evident when you see adults protesting, not wearing masks, not social distancing etc.
I think we have to keep in mind each one of us needs to do what's best for us, if you believe in wearing a mask it's OK! π
