Good Morning, WW Friends ~ Happy Memorial Day! Remembering all those who have served to protect our great country I am happy to report another good night's sleep. We ended up having to close up the house yesterday and turning on the A/C for a few hours. DH had to do some "routine maintenance" on it - and plans to charge it today, then we'll be all set for the Summer. We were able to turn it off at bedtime and opened the windows. With our big ceiling fans, we stay quite comfortable. We had our chicken/apple/gouda sausages on whole grain buns yesterday with mac 'n cheese, green beans and cinnamon apples. It made for quite a feast! We ate early, so had ice cream last night. I have resumed adding 1 Tbsp of chopped pecans to my ice cream and makes it much more 'filling' for only 1 SP.DH went Kroger shopping and loaded us up with fruits and vegetables. I had asked for either cherries or grapes (for snacks) and he bought BOTH! Gotta love that guy! He also snagged another rack of pork baby back ribs while they're on sale, so now we have two racks in the freezer. I am up and dressed and planning to get a walk in before the weather heats up! DH will be headed out to run his errands and I will walk while he is gone. I have thawed out leftover Hamburger Pie for tonight's supper, and DH will probably make a salad. Breakfast was plain FF Greek yogurt with blackberries and Fiber One. One thing I am really missing during this stay-at-home is our AA meetings. We always attend the Alkathons on holidays, and now we've missed Easter and now today. Today's meeting would have been full!! I miss the fact that on holidays we see people we don't see the rest of the year. Oh well .... I am sure I'm not the only one. DH recently wondered out loud about those who are regular meeting attendees and really need them?? My weight is hanging steady for which I am glad. Even with the occasional splurge (which is necessary if this is to be a lifestyle) I am maintaining, if not slowly dropping a little bit here and there. I just need to continue doing what I'm doing with the food intake and the walking. I am hopeful that our exercise studio will reopen sometime, but since it is part of our school system, I don't know if that will happen?? BBL. Make a great day!!

Sorry you are missing your meetings, Sue. Like you said, I'm sure you are not the only one.
Awesome job maintaining.
Your meals sound good
Today Carl wants hotdogs. I found yet another small container of baked beans so we'll finish off that and the rest of the macaroni salad. A high sodium day that I shall balance out during the rest of the week.
Our weather is iffy. Was drizzling earlier. Hopefully I'll get a walk in.

Ann ~ Your meals sound delicious as well. I already got a 3X walk this morning. I do think it will get too steamy out there to walk later. I am so glad that you kept talking about walking, because I finally jumped on the band wagon and I couldn't be happier with the results!! So, thank you.
Judy ~ I am sure you are having fun at the Cape. Hopefully your weather warmed up? It seems strangely quiet around here as we are used to parades and gatherings on holidays. We can always hear the band from the local high school when we sit outdoors, but not this year. Funny the little things we take for granted.
Pam ~ Looking forward to hearing from you and what you're doing for this 'holiday'

Hey all,
Happy Memorial Day! We plan to go over to the cemetery later so I can put some flowers on my Dad and uncle Jimmy’s grave. Jimmy died at 24 in Italy during WWII. Wish I’d known him.
Sue, my good pal who has been sober 35+ years really misses her meetings, too. She does an online meeting several times a week but it’s not the same. She worries about people she sponsors.
Today is a cloudy coolish day. Bad news here is that the heat is back to not working. Ugh. Good thing it’s May and we can live without until it’s fixed. DH thinks it’s the ignighter.
Ann, glad you slept well. I did too. We watched a few episodes of the Wire and are now on the final season. Hate to see it end!

Sue, so happy you are enjoying your walks. I'd be lost without them. Carl and I were always walkers. I do miss neighborhood walks that we used to take when we lived in Worcester as they had sidewalks. In towns, not so much, and the road we live on people DO walk, but the traffic is unbelievable. It's like walking on a highway...no thank you. We walk around our community social distancing and RUNNING from the gossip mongers LOL...works for us Here the weather is nice a cool. It was drizzling earlier, but that stopped. I just hope that it doesn't the humidity stays away. If that happens, I won't walk. I have a hard time breathing in that stuff. Judy I know just how you feel once the Wire ends. We watched the last episode of the Punisher via Netflix last night. As I said earlier, it's most definitely NOT for the faint of heart. In fact now, we will either skip a series and just listen to music or choose something less racy. Seeing as my book is 'fluff' it did work out well. Gotta have that balance Sorry the heat isn't working. Hopefully DH will be able to fix it himself. One of the guys that lives in our community is also a sponsor. He too worries about what he calls 'his people'. Dan has been sober for 50 years. He's so committed..... I won't say 'enjoy going to the cemetery' but you know what I mean. If it brings you peace, I'm all for it. I did take a walk earlier. Did 2 miles. Now it's time for lunch. Will CBL.

We are back from a very interesting trip. I don't know if I told you, but Thursday at his Telehealth Cardiology appointment, DH's cardiologist suggested he get a Covid Antibody Test. The illness he had in February was the worst I have ever seen with shortness of breath, chills, cough, wheezing. Our PCP put him on antibiotics and inhaler and sent him for a chest x-ray. He never fully recovered, so our PCP put him on a Z-Pak and it finally got better. At the same time I had that outbreak of shingles so I was on a antiviral medication and for a solid month was so terribly fatigued that nothing was a pleasure. When I saw our PCP on Friday he told me of an Urgent Care Center locally who is doing antibody tests - no appointment, no Rx, no co-pay. He recommended we both go for testing. I called them to confirm the instructions - and then we decided to go today and we're already all done and back home. We'll get results in a few days.
Our A/C was limping along yesterday and DH opened it up and there was a loose wire that he fixed, and he checked the fuses, which were good. Then we turned it off overnight and this morning he went to his Shop and got his gauges and can of Freon and checked it again. It was sadly in need of a charge, so he took care of that and now it is working like a champ!! He fixed it right before we went to the Urgent Care, so it ran while we were gone and now the absence of humidity in the house is outstanding!! It feels so good to have two chores checked off our list.
We had a great lunch when we got home. Wholly guacamole with multi-grain cracker/chips and a light string cheese and red seedless grapes. Delicious and filling!! It is currently 12 degrees cooler in here than outside (and most importantly - no humidity!). We are going to hang out for the afternoon and then fix an easy supper.
I should hear the results of my biopsy (on my arm) by mid-week. We should get our antibody test results about the same time. I go back to my PCP next Monday to have the sutures removed.

Happy Memorial Day!
I have a friend (her husband is a cousin of DBIL) who lost her son in Afghanistan and today is always a big one for her. She always hears from his service buddies and some of them come and visit. It is always a reminder to me that freedom isn't free.
I had fully intended to post Saturday, but before I got it done, we lost electricity after a thunderstorm. The storm wasn't bad here, but about 10 miles west, it was a little worse and downed a main transmission line in a wet, wooded area which required special equipment to be trucked in. Much of the parish was without power from 4:30 - 11:15 pm. We were lucky that the storm reduced temps by about 15 degrees, so we didn't miss the AC as much. DH and I ordered takeout from the local cafe which is powered by the other big electric company and wasn't affected. We sat outdoors until almost 8:00, then showered with the remainder of the hot water and read by battery-operated lamps while listening to country western on the radio.
Yesterday, after Mass, I got my walk in and then finished the book I was reading the night before. We straightened things up around the house and DD2 came to visit around 1:30. She made some cheesy potatoes, DH grilled ribs and we had home-grown corn and green beans from the freezer. We were relieved to hear she was not affected by the big IBM layoff on Thursday. We had a good visit and then watched Titanic after she headed home.
My eating plan has not been up to snuff since I got back from the camp and the scale is reflecting that, so I am trying to rein it in a bit today. I did manage to get walks in yesterday and today. I have had to switch from evening to morning for my walks as we seem to be settling into our typical summer pattern of afternoon showers. DH and I had a brunch of toast, scrambled eggs, grits and bacon. Tonight's dinner will be zucchini and squash boats and the last of the fresh beets. DH wants to get more of them put into the freezer while we have lots of fresh ingredients on hand.
It was nice to catch up on all your activities from the past few days.
Sue - I have a friend who is very active in AA and since the pandemic they have been having daily outdoor meetings, which works in our climate for much of the year. This has got to be a tough time for those with addictions.
Ann - I, too, am blessed with a husband who does much of the cooking. How did we get to be so lucky?
Judy - I hope you get your heating system straightened out and that it's nothing too serious. Where we live is near two oxbow lakes, formed when the Mississippi River changed course. Maybe that's what you were thinking of.
Time to re-boot laundry!

Pam I agree with you 100% freedom truly isn't free. I thank my lucky stars and pray for all those that lost their lives serving, that have served and are serving now. Dedication like that should NEVER be taken lightly!!!! So sorry you lost power. It's such a royal pain when that happens. Happy you are up and running now. It's hard sticking to a normal eating plan when away from home. Out of your element 'stuff happens' Now that you are home again I know you will nip whatever damage you've done in the bud and hit that handy reset button. Happy DD wasn't laid off! Such trying times. I read about all the weight watcher leaders and receptionists that lost their jobs in such a horrid way....they say it was over a zoom meeting!!!!! My heart goes out to them and their family. Bad enough dealing with the stress from the virus....and now this. Carl is outside dealing with yard work. Trying to kill a stump is how he put it!!!!! I'm about ready to plug myself into some nice relaxing music, open my kindle and read a bit. I'm also doing laundry. Yes we are lucky having DH's that LOVE to cook I did take another walk, but it's heating up out there now. The sky looks very strange as well. Should it cool off and look nicer out there, I'll walk later on. If not? I'll catch the great outdoors tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of your day, all. Will CBL

Sue I'm very interested in the antibody testing. What does it entail? I'm seriously thinking of looking into it. Do you need to go through your PCP? Oh I bet it felt REALLY GOOD to come home to a cool home. Your DH is a keeper for sure

I just called our urgent care facility. In our area you need to have a PCP referral or go into Urgent care, be seen by one of their physicians and they would send you out back for the testing. Still on the fence about this.
Sue praying for good luck for you and DH's results.

Hi All ~ I got my second 2X walk before supper. It was hot out, but not terribly humid, so it was okay. We still have temps in the upper 80's and will for a couple more days.
Ann ~ Our PCP sent us, but there did not require a Rx or referral. We did complete paperwork and were seen by a P.A. for an exam. The test was a simple blood draw. I thought it was pretty simple. We really do want to know, as do our doctors.
We have had an absolutely fabulous salad for supper along with the leftover Hamburger Pie.
Time for some TV and relaxation.
Sweet dreams!!

Sue - I'm going to guess that CV has already visited your house. Can't wait to hear what the antibody tests show.
DH and I took a ride to DD1's to share some stuffed squash with her and DSIL. The kids probably won't even taste it, lol. When we got back, we spent a little time in the green room and talked a bit with the next door neighbors. Then DH went in to watch the news and I sat on the swing and read and then walked in the driveway until I met my steps goal.
Now, I'm headed for a shower and jammies and then will read some more. I'm on a Karen Robard's mystery entitled Hush. Sweet dreams all!

Hey all,
Just a quick check in before bedtime. Good to read all the posts.
Sue, can’t wait to hear results of both your tests and hoping good news in both. I was also very ill in February with many COVID symptoms including fever, cough, no taste buds, etc. and contracted it from my boss who was just back from Spain. Six of us at work were very ill for a few weeks. Anyhow, when I had my Tele-med appointment, I asked my doctor about the antibody test. She discouraged it saying they are finding many false and not reliable results. This is because COVID 19 is just one of many COVID type viruses and she said and the test does not seem to accurately distinguish between the more common COVID flus and the serious CV-19. Hmmm... not sure what to think now but I’ll be anxious to hear your results. My Boston friend said his Mass General hospital doctor told him the same thing as mine. However, I guess there’s no harm in the test unless it falsely tells you you’ve had it. 🤔 So much information out there to digest!
We are home and both exhausted! More tomorrow...
