birdgal, agreed. trump is hellbent on making this trump's america. or rather trump's amerikkka i should say. i would not be surprised in the least if he does something to screw up november's election. he already is trying to stop the mail in ballot process. he and whomever else he can threaten to stop it with him.

We had so many mail in ballots in Santa Fe County that the County Clerk had to get an extension until Saturday to get them all counted. She's even saying she may need to ask for an additional extension.

i was also reading that one of the companies that manufactures mail in ballots was saying they cannot be told in july that they suddenly need an order of mail in ballots. they need to know now so they can be prepared.

With all the barriers being installed at the WH it will come in handy for him when he loses but won't leave. Only sort of joking.

the use of these rubber bullets is out of control. this homeless man was shot in the face with one. he wasn't even part of the protest but police are just shooting aimlessly at this point.
(WARNING-GRAPHIC). this just cannot be ignored.

Only sort of joking. sounds like they'll just have to leave the baby there all alone come january 2021 when he won't leave. stop delivering food and supplies. in essence smoke him out. i guess biden will have to set up WH shop elsewhere.

I am shocked and appalled. These protests are about police brutality. About a cop kneeling on a citizens neck while the citizen pleads for air until He dies. DIES!
And now we have cops at these protests whacking peaceful protesters with clubs. I said peaceful!
Being videoed for the whole world to see. Thugs with a badge, a club and a gun aimed at peaceful protesters. Protesters who are protesting a cop who murdered a man.
What the Hell?
I feel bad for the animal that many people call the cops. The comparison is not fair to an innocent and peaceful animal.
It's nuts! A protest about police brutally with cops walking around knocking seniors down, whacking peaceful people with clubs, being as brutal as they want. WTH?
We are bat crap crazy!

yeah i'm not sure what is going on. how it is that law enforcement is taking it upon themselves to cause chaos during peaceful protests. peaceful doesn't mean the people aren't angry. but they're not attacking! go after the few that are causing a ruckus for kicks. not the many that are assembling as is their constitutional right to do so.

To me it looks as if the cops are afraid of the citizens protesting.
Look at their mean faces. They're angry at the people. Look at the rage on their fearful faces as they whack women on bare legs, push elderly men down and walk right by him as he lay there on the ground.
There are more protesters than cops. However, the only reason there are any people there at all is because a cop, a person who took a friggin oath to protect and serve the citizens, just like the cops whacking and shooting at these people, murdered a man who was on the ground, face down with his hands behind his back, begging for air!
That's a bad, very bad, evil cop who is now a murderer and that's why citizens are angry and protesting murderous and brutal cops.
Who the Hell needs that kind of cop at these protests behaving exactly the same way as the murderer?
Actually, these cops look weak. I wonder how brave they'd be without their club and gun.
I'm grateful and comforted to see there are also decent, brave, and compassionate police officers there too.
I hate bullies and thugs. Especially when they carry gun, a badge, and a club.

yes there are most certainly many decent and compassionate law enforcement officers out there as well. several that are actually participating in the protests. taking a knee, hugging protesters, providing support while they watch over things to make sure all is safe. THOSE are the kind we need at all times. not these puffed out chest dickwads who feel the need to make up for whatever shortcomings they feel they have.
one of the things i read that i was pleased to see (going with the defunding of police initiative) is create separate types of departments within law enforcement and spread the funding out better. instead of officers for every little thing, they will send in officers for high escalated issues. for issues that call for no need of brute force, they will send in counselors, doctors if needed, social workers, etc, in place of cops as it is now.

I hesitate to defend law enforcement. But I gotta say even with training and arms and protective equipment some of them are going to subcumb to fear, adrenaline, their own mob-mentality, and revert to the law of jungle in these crowd situations. I'm not saying it's an excuse at all, more like an explanation.
I believe it is a constant battle to not go to the "dark side" when you are put in a position of power over people. Again, we need to come up with ways to contain these impulses. I'm thinking of the Stanford experiment when they put one group of students in control of another group - it was a pyschology class. The group with the power started abusing their fellow students in the powerless group almost immediately. The experiment had to be halted because it was pyschologically damaging both groups.
I don't have any easy answers. In my community there is a group of chronic drug users (many of whom have mental/emotional challenges and are self-medicating). Some have been arrested over 300 times (mostly theft), but as these are not serious crimes and they have no means to pay a fine, the arrests are meaningless. People complain about it constantly, and this is probably one of the most liberal areas in the country. People hate law enforcement until they need it.

lani, I agree. 99% of police officers are fine, upstanding people who are there to help and enforce the law. The 1% that isn't "spoil the whole barrel" and the good cops are the ones out there trying to keep the peace. I can't even imagine trying to stay calm in the face of 100s of people screaming at you, name calling, threatening, etc.

I don't hate law enforcement. I hate bullies, thugs, and obnoxious people. I hate young men who pushed an elderly man down on tbe cement so damn hard blood was coming from his head. Then walk by him like he was a piece of litter on the street! Yes, I do hate that!
I have a friend who is a police officer. She's a good person, a brave woman too. She has smashed windows out of cars to rescue dogs left there gasping for air in brutal humidity. Her boyfriend is a body builder and sometimes he's even afraid of her. Lol.
Every job has good and bad things about it.
Perhaps Robo Cop really is the best answer, the best cop.
"Open the pod door, Hal." Oh wait. Wrong movie. Lol.
Cops are human. Humans are not perfect. Robots can be programmed to do no harm. Humans cant. Just saying.
