How are you dealing with the summer heat?

Thought of this topic because it was 90 today. Hoping the house will cool down and we won't need ac tonight. This is the second bout of hot weather we've had this year. The days before this were beautiful. Thankfully we have low humidity today. I remind myself to not complain about the hot weather in the summer because I'll miss it when we go through winter.

The worst heatwave has passed by for now...it will warm up again in the future, I am sure. Now it is fine with fans and often with windows open. If too hot then the AC in one room will come on

Open the windows as soon as I get up. Close 'em and draw shades once the inside and outside temps equalize. Turn on A/C when necessary. Usually not till 3:00 PM or so. It does cool off at night.
I can't believe when I lived in Minn. as a child we had no A/C, not in cars or anywhere. Sleeping in sweaty sheets at night.

lani, When we lived in Missouri in the early 1950's we slept downstairs in the summer. My two brothers slept on the screened-in porch, Mom, Dad, and my sister slept on the floor of the living room and I got the couch because I was the smallest. I think I've told this story but back east it doesn't cool down at night in the summer and the first summer I went back to California I forgot to take a sweater. Luckily my sister had one I could borrow.

We use ceiling fans for the most part. Last year was the first time we had to purchase a portable Air Conditioner . It cools up to 2500 square feet.
