Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read.Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Having a cool spell, today and tomorrow. Then the heat comes back.
Marsha, good to hear your DD made it back to Madison ok. Did you hear about that horrible multi car/semi trucks accident somewhere down there, very early in the morning? I heard 4 died in that accident. How awful! Have you decided to do one of the WW plans? It seems I am having the most success on Blue. Since I am older, my metabolism is slower, which means if I want to loose, I need to do more activity. We usually have some kind of family get together in the near future (unlike this past few months!), so if we treat ourselves to a cookie, or a good bread (I have cranberry bread with orange frosting in the freezer right now for example), then put it in the freezer for whatever is coming up on the calendar. Or, if I am desperate, I will drive it over to one of my DD house and give it to the kids. I truly love the Blue plan, but am to the point in my cooking life, that I am sick and tired of all my meals. So maybe I should do what Robin does, and order some meals.
Gareth, I am the same way, talking about movies, do not watch them anymore. I just don't want to be tied down to a couple hours. I need to figure out how to tape that series, Grant. I am loving this cooler weather. Still walking in the house (apartment), the other day DH did vent to me about my walking inside is getting on his nerves. It is just so easy to do inside! I don't have to worry about the wind, or rain, or humidity, plus as my back starts hurting, I can take a break and sit with the heating pad for a bit, then continue. I can't do that outside, lol. Did you have pizza last night? We did too, frozen pizza, and I just was not too happy with the taste, it didn't taste quite the same.
Carol, I bet you got that honey, sweetie thing way more, with living down south! You and me both, getting crotchetey in our old age!!!! Another thing that is starting to bug me, is my receipts at the grocery store!!!! What is up with that??? I went yesterday, and did not buy ANY meat, or things like water, wine, soda...and my bill was still $178!!!! Come on!!! 4 brown paper grocery bags to haul up, which is barely nothing, and a 8 pack of toweling. That's it!!! And the store I go to is famous in our area for good prices, not those fancy grocery store prices. Oh well, guess that too is part of the "new normal"
Anngie, Hi. Speaking of having pizza on Sunday's, I have to get my menu for the next couple weeks set. I was at the end of it, the other day, and so now I am floundering. As I stated earlier, we had pizza last night, but I was not happy with it. But I sure ate my share, lol!!!
Robin, good luck figuring out where to go for dinner. I am so glad we have a few places that we are comfortable going into. I get a chuckle when they talk on the local news about going into local eateries, and wearing a mask going in, sure you can wear a mask going in, but then, you do have to take it off, to eat and drink. Every place we have gone into, to eat (which so far was only twice), we do not bother with masks. I have noticed that I do not like wearing the mask, what with my glasses and wig, it is a pain getting the mask on! Always something!
One of my flowering plants had to be repotted and soil added, so I did that yesterday afternoon. DH took his boat out for the first time, since he had it in the shop. So all my plants got food too. DH was very happy how the boat did. They went to a small lake, so he couldn't open up the engine, so I know he will want to take it to a bigger lake soon.
Omg! I forgot to mention to you all, yesterday, what happened on my Kindle the night before last!!! I normally do not touch my Kindle during the day, it stays in my bedroom. The other night, I went on it, after getting in to bed, and was going to start reading the book I was just about done reading. When I went to the page on the kindle that has all my books, there was 4 books on there that I had never seen! All were in a different language! So I have no idea what the title's were. I had not been in Overdrive in a while, and had not downloaded any books, since the one I was finishing. I was able to delete them from my Kindle, but I was very worried as to how they got on there!
Since we have no plans today, I am hoping to get DH to go with me for a walk thru the Wildlife Sanctuary. We love going there, but since it is on the other side of town, we do not go there that much.
Have a nice day everyone.

I forgot to talk about the sweetie/honey thing.....yes, count me in as VERY against it!!! To me those words should be just for close family, maybe friends too, but that I would not like either.

Karen, very strange about that kindle. I wonder if a kindle account can be hacked. I don't know what they would do with that. Do you have a Fire, where they can get on the internet, or a Paperwhite? As far as the waking in the apartment thing goes, I honestly can see your DH's point. During the winter, our landlord and one of the other guys took to waking in the building. The younger guy would go up and down the stairs countless times, and we would hear it, and the owner, would walk up our hall to the bathrooms, which are right past my office, turn around and do other loops, up and down stairs, and I did find it annoying. One of my mah jongg friends paces when she is the one who is out, and that bothers me too. It's very distracting. So although I might want to say that the wife is always right, I can see it here. I will bet when Gareth walks in her basement her DH can't hear it.
It is beautiful weather here today. Sunny and in the 60's, will get into the 70's. We will stay in the 70's all week. I have a dog grooming appointment at 10:30, will also go to drop something at the post office. DH went out shopping today for ingredients to buy for a new ice cream recipe he found. He has that, but then tells me he wants to throw out the snack I just bought last weekend because he doesn't want to eat them. Let's see what he comes home with. He did call to see if the price on the prime strip steaks was good. I told him to buy 2, and I hope that is what he comes home with, although come to think of it he could have gone with 6 so we can have them for Father's Day with DS & DDIL. Maddie is up in Massachusetts now. Today she is 2 months old. Can you believe that she slept 9 hours last night? DDIL sometimes pumps instead of regular nursing, so they gave her a bottle at 10, and she drank 5 ounces, and she didn't wake up until 8 am. A dream child for young parents. She was a little fussy the first night, maybe knowing she wasn't in her home, but last night was great. I will see if I can get them to stay out here a bit.

Hello everyone! It’s nice here today and into all next week. Around 70, so it’s cooler than usual, mainly because it’s breezy.
Our restaurants are now open to 50% capacity - and tables 6’ apart. It’ll be interesting to see how this will work. Masks are necessary until you’re seated. I’m not in a hurry to get inside, but wouldn’t mind outside seating. I prefer it this time of year anyway.
Not too much going on this weekend. I ordered a collapsible popcorn popper and tried it last night. There were still too many unpopped kernels, but better than the air popper.
Once again, a friend handed me two books she really enjoyed and just “knew” I would like them too. Lost & Found by J. Sheehan and The Dream Daughter by D. Chamberlain. It really annoys me when people insist I read a particular book they liked. I can choose my own books, thank you! I’ll read them eventually. Anyone read them?

Our DGS starting sleeping through the night real early. My DD found an article about "Trick Babies". They are the easy babies who sleep well from the start, nurse and cut teeth with no problems. The parents think they've got this and decide to have another baby. The Trick baby turns 2 so now the parents have an infant and one in the terrible twos. Of course, this is all generalizations. Our DGS has been easy for the most part. Teething didn't seem to bother him at all. Now that he is in a big boy bed, he will get in bed and almost as soon as DD and DSIL are out of the room, he gets up and plays quietly for a little while. Then he goes and gets in bed and goes to sleep. One of my friends used to say you have give the baby cereal at night to get them to sleep all night. Mine weren't like that though and neither was DGS.
I've noticed my grocery bill has been a little higher, too.
Karen, you might contact Amazon customer service about your Kindle. They could tell you when those books were bought. I accidentally bought a book and had no problem when I talked to DS. They took it right off and credited my account.
DD has decided to lift her restrictions on us and we are going to get together for the 4th of July. I can't remember if I said this earlier, but DH and I are not going to church tomorrow. We will continue to watch live-stream. I think since tomorrow is the first time since March, it may be crowded because people just want to what it is like.
Arkansas had over 700 new cases of Covid yesterday. I had heard NY was doing good.
My DS was a pacer. It bothered me because he would walk in front of the TV while I was watching. I would close the door between the living and dining room which helped. I'm one of those who pace when on the telephone.

Cool and breezy here this morning too. 70's today and then warming up again every day. 90's by Tuesday. That wind was chilly even in the sun walking this morning. Glad we have the two levels so when we can't walk outdoors we can go downstairs to walk so it doesn't bother anyone. Only thing that bothers me then is when I want to walk and have to wait for DH to finish his walk!
Karen, that wildlife sanctuary sounds like such a nice place for a walk. We love the Red Baron classic crust special deluxe frozen pizzas. They don't even need any doctoring up. We've tried others and always go back to that one.
Thanks everyone for the anniversary wishes yesterday!
Marsha, don't know if you'll see this since you're not here on weekends. I told DH about that movie, Just Mercy and he watched it last night on netflix and really liked it too.
Robin, can't believe Maddie is 2 months old already!
Anngie, maybe try a different brand of popcorn. I think it's normal though to always get a few unpopped kernels. The Dream Daughter is different because of time travel but I really liked it. Lost and Found sounds interesting so I put it in my wish list.
Carol, I'm a pacer too on the phone. One way to get added steps!

Good morning. Another nice but a bit chilly day.
Pinky, I am thinking of you daily, and praying everything is ok with you. I hope you can stop in soon and let us know how you are doing.
Robin, about the Kindle, I was able to delete those books, from the device, so I am not going to call anyone. Since I do have internet on it, I was thinking right away that it had been hacked. But what a weird thing to do, if you are hacking. Yes, I am going to limit my walking time in the apartment, on days that I do not walk outside. That is the key, I have to make an effort to go outside. DH is a pacer, when on the phone, I am more of a sitter, while on the phone. How long is Maddie gone away?
Anngie, I am right there with you, on the friend giving you books to read! What gall she has, and why does she think her opinion of books is the best?? A lot of times I read a book that I do not even mention on here, thinking that it probably would not appeal to the rest of the group. I think if that would have happened to me, I would have handed them back and said no thanks, I have enough books to read. We have gone into a couple restaurants and felt comfortable.
Carol we had a trick baby, now that you explain it! Our first was a breeze, then the second came along, after trying to have another one right away, it took a while to have her, and yep, she was the exact opposite! I swear I was rocking her to sleep when she was 2 or 3!!! We too are going to DD2 for the 4th, but for DGS birthday party. It will be their first party since the pandemic struck. We are also going there Friday for Father's day dinner. Our state is doing very good, stat wise with the virus. Every day the count is going down.
Gareth, we will be warming up too, but just the high 80's. Compared to what we had the last couple days, that will feel very warm. I would be happy with 68 all summer, but then nobody would go swimming. We did not go to the wildlife sanctuary. I checked online, and all their restrooms are still closed. I am drinking a ton of water, so with that, you know what happens. So until they open the restrooms, I will not be able to walk their trails.
We looked up both nature trails we have in our area yesterday, to walk, but all the restrooms are closed at this time, so we did not go. We had some food to give to DD1 who is running that free food box at the school across the street from them, so we took it over there. Then we stopped at the cemetery to see if they moved DB headstone. His is moved, and all finished, but they have not moved ours yet. So I will call there tomorrow to see what the hold up is.
When DH saw his Botox person (I do not know what her credentials are!), the other day, she did some blood tests, then based on the results, had him start taking iron pills, and vitamin C. His blood tests show that his iron and ferritin are down. So that is the reason for the jerking??? She does think he might have restless leg syndrome. I am very, very against him seeing her, and taking her advice. I want him to go to a Neurologist, but I will keep my mouth shut and see how this goes, with the vitamins. I am hoping they prove me wrong.
Not feeling the best, as I am fighting off a cold. Of course...now that we are getting closer to things getting more normal, I am going to get sick.
Have a nice day everyone.

Another cool but sunny morning. 50's when I got up again. Warming into the high 70's later. 80's tomorrow and 90's Tues. Another windy day. Wind predicted for the next couple of days too. With the wind I was more comfortable this morning wearing 3/4 length sleeves. Yesterday morning I was chilly in short sleeves.
Karen, I really wish we knew what's going on with Pinky. Hope you feel better soon!
I started Nothing More Dangerous by Allen Eskens this morning and got into it right away. I've read a couple of his books that I've liked too.

We hardly ever go to the movies. We went to see Frozen 2 last winter with our DS and DDIL. It was the first time I had been in the movie theater since it had been remodeled. It was very nice with the recliners, etc., but I still would rather wait until what I want to watch is on Amazon or Netflix.
Karen, who does your DH's botox? I thought you would have to be qualified in some way to use it on people. Does he get for migraines?
I noticed people are having estate sales again. There were 3 advertised in the paper. They all said they were only allowing a certain number of people in the house at once and also masks were required. We decided not to go to any of them. I do wonder though if they enforced the mask wearing.
I don't mind people telling me they liked a certain book. What I don't like is people telling me I have to read a certain book. Someone at work kept trying to get me to read The Hunger Games and offering to lend me her copy. I kept turning her down and she finally got the message. The funny thing is if someone was trying to push a book on her, she would have gotten mad.
