Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read.Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Beautiful start to the day, a bit chilly, with the temp going to 73, then the warm up comes.
Gareth, sounds like we are a day behind you with the temps. 90 is expected here on Thursday. Our weekend was so nice, almost wish we could stay with those cooler temps. Did not have much wind, as you mention wind, I have not heard if it is supposed to kick up around here. Thanks, about how I felt yesterday, it was weird, I even spent time on the sofa, and that is not like me. I am hoping it is gone, even tho I still have the headache. I got a notification on my FB last night of a picture posted that had Pinky tagged to it. I am not sure if it was taken this past weekend or not. It was a cute pic, of her and I assume a grand daughter.
Carol, I can't say when the last time I went to a movie theater. Maybe 30-40 years ago (?). Just no interest in it. Lol, about Frozen, the first movie I got to know real well, having 3 grand daughters, I learned fast to have that movie in my DVR, and it was watched a lot at our house. Of course all 3 girls knew every word of every song in it...I too ended up knowing some of the words. DH sees a APNP for his Botox injections for his migraines, she is who he is getting advice about the jerking. No clue what a APNP is. I agree with you about books.
Robin, Anngie, I saw your Governor on TV talking about the issues going on there with the large crowds. Sounds like people are going over board with the partying.
Hi to Marsha, and Pinky.
This is our first week in a while that has just 2 appointments, which are DH P.T. Wish I could think of something for us to do, but I just don't feel like it. Guess I will see if DH wants to help with cleaning. I do have a couple of phone calls to make today.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, I was curious to what APNP was so I googled...... Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber. Beautiful start to our day too. Sounds like we've been having similar weather except for the wind which is getting old. Sounds like it's here at least until midweek. I saw that too on FB so hopefully maybe we'll "see" her here soon.
Marsha, I don't know if you go back and read the weekend but I commented Sat to you about DH really liking Just Mercy too after I told him how well you liked it.
I'm waiting to walk with DH when he gets home from work. In the meantime I have things needing done around here. Always something needing my attention.

Hi friends---I am sorry if i had you worried about me but I had a stroke. I am doing pretty good but i am having trouble using the computer and phone --texting. My memory and everything is good, thankful my only issues are techy ones. I have therapy for the first time today. oh yes----my handwritting is really small too compared to how it was before. I remember posting posting about Tuesdayor wed. the 2nd or 3rd of June and thinking this does not sound like me. I don't now wen this happened but just a gradual decrease in knowing how to used the computer over several days and being so tired.

OMG, Pinky! I am so sorry and relieved you seem to be doing okay. I hope your therapy goes well. We all are concerned about you.
Marsha, wow! And I thought I was the only one who didn't go to movies. I just hate the way people talk during the movie, plus I would almost always have to go to the bathroom. At least at home, I can pause the movie to go to the bathroom or to get a snack.
Somehow, Saturday when DH was doing yard work, he broke a faucet. I'm here waiting on the plumber, but DH is coming home so he can talk to him since I really have no idea what exactly happened.
From what we heard, our church opening went well-about 100 or so people. There were a few older ones. The numbers in Texas are going up since this phase of re-opening. We may stay in the rest of the month since we have plans to see DGS and don't want to take any chances.

Karen – I’ve been on the green plan all along. I like to have to track more, not less, of what I eat. Re your mystery kindle books – everything is downloaded through Amazon so I would check your amazon order history to make sure nobody has hijacked your account.
Robin – re your dh and the ice cream – I’m like him. Sometimes I see a new recipe I want to try but I don’t want the stuff in the house. This weekend I almost got sucked into making sourdough starter but I resisted. But dh likes sourdough bread so I may yet make it. That being said, I don’t buy sandwich bread and I have a loaf of challah in the freezer because bagel thins are fewer points than sandwich bread unless you buy light bread which to me is like eating air.
Gareth – I’m glad dh watched Just Mercy. It’s a powerful story.
Anngie – I agree about trying a different brand of popcorn. We find Orville Redenbacher is the best but we don’t mind the dead kernels at the bottom with a cheaper brand.
I feel differently about the friend giving books. I think I wouldn’t mind if someone loaned me a book because they think I would like it. I like to read books that others have enjoyed. Plus the type of reading someone enjoys says a lot about a person and it’s a glimpse into your friend’s world.
OMG Pinky ! I’m so glad you came back to tell us what happened. We were so worried and now I see we had definite cause to be. I hope you felt everyone’s prayers. I hope that the therapy goes well and things continue to improve.
Carol – I go to movies. Karen was the one who said she hadn’t been there in 30-40 years. DH likes to see the big impact movies on the large screen – like the star wars movies. We like (well, liked) to go to the budget cinema near us where movies are cheap.
I had a good weekend. I made a batch of strawberry jam, I did some weeding, cut the lawn in the back (dh is supposed to do the front), and finally took down and washed the blind in the bathroom. And had some relaxing time too. Dog walked this morning. It was only 48 degrees and I was cold in my sweatshirt. I am working to get back in control of my eating. I thought I was doing ok yesterday but ended up with 38 points which is so far above ok that I clearly need a reality check! It was a mistake to have garlic bread with the spaghetti for dinner...…..

OMG Pinky! We’ve been so worried! I’m glad you’re bouncing back, starting PT and able to send us a post. As you can, keep us posted, or just enjoy our ramblings! lol
Carol, I’m finding my grocery bill is a bit higher as well. For me, I think it’s because I’m buying all I need at one store so I don’t have to go to another, where I can find some things cheaper. This is going to end this week, though. Re the books, one friend brought me a bag of books! Only one is of any interest to me and I’m not reading that one either.
Gareth, well, I think the issue with the collapsible popcorn popper is operator malfunction! (this is embarrassing - after all we’re talking about a popcorn popper). I never expanded it!! Can you believe it.
Karen, I missed something here. Why does your headstone need to be moved? Any plans for Father’s Day with DD’s?
Robin, so Maddie had her first sleepover - in MA! This is funny - the Mohawk Valley is now in Phase 3 with indoor dining, but of course with this nice weather people prefer outside dining - in Saratoga Springs this weekend there was a 3-hour wait to get seated! Oh my!
Marsha, wow, you got a lot accomplished this weekend! I’ve often wanted to try making jam but never have. I think I was always intimidated by sterilizing the jars - but maybe that’s not done anymore. Do you soak your blinds? What do you use to wash them? I have one mini-blind in a bathroom I should clean.
Any plans for Father’s Day?

Anngie - jam is easy but I do can it and if you do that you need a water bath canner because the water has to flow on all sides so you can't have the jars sitting on the bottom of the pot. I bought one many years ago and I drag it out every year. It's just a huge caldron with a rack for the jars. I sterilize the jars in the canner but you can run them through the dishwasher on the sterilize setting and that will do the trick. I also boil the lids in a pot of water to sterilize them. You can freeze jam too so if you want to make it and don't have a canner you can do it that way. Just follow the instructions inside the box of pectin. I make the low sugar jam, and even so I think my strawberry is a bit sweet. The strawberry rhubarb I made had just enough tartness to cut the sweetness from the strawberry jam. As for the blinds, they were absolutely disgusting. I had tried cleaning them by spraying with fantastic and wiping but that didn't do the trick. I took them down, put them in a bathtub with warm water, a bit of dawn dish soap and some vinegar and left them to soak for an hour. Came back and wiped them with a rag. Once they had soaked the dirt wiped off easily. Hung them to dry in the shower initially, then took them outside so the breeze could dry in between things. They look so much better now. I wish I had done this years ago. Now I need to take a look at all the other blinds in the house.

Marsha, doesn’t the top and bottom casements on the blinds fill with water when they’re submerged in water?

Sorry, Marsha. I trusted my memory instead of scrolling up.
When I do my blinds in the tub, I spray them with cleaner. I let them sit for a while and then rinse them off by running the shower or using the hand held shower attachment-depends on which bathroom. I lay them out in the yard. Make sure you separate the slats and don't have them touching. They stuck together and when I tried to separate them, they peeled. These were old, came with the house. The newer ones may not have this problem.
The faucet fix didn't take long and was not real expensive.
Anngie, funny about the popcorn maker.

Just a quick pop in, our internet was out from Saturday around 5 pm, when our power went out, through late last night, so I didn't post. I don't have time today to read everything, I came in early. Tonight I am playing mah jongg with my friends again, so I might get organized to read and see what is up tomorrow. I have a book that has already expired from the library, and I want to get through it so I can turn my wireless back on. It's Summer Wives by Beatriz Williams, I am enjoying it. Nothing earth shattering but I like it.
Our anniversary is next week, I made a reservation for the 23rd for patio dining, but they are opening for dine in on the 24th. I will see what DH wants to do. We always go out on the actual day.

Angie - they filled with water but drained over the bathtub, then when they were still a little wet I hung the blinds outside so the breeze would finish drying them. They weren't working well before and now they work nicely again. I think there must have been a lot of gunk in the works.
Carol - initially I sprayed down the blinds and rinsed them but that didn't work real well, so I moved on to soaking and that worked better.

Pinky, so sorry to hear about the stroke, they can be very scary, sounds like yours was relatively mild. Good that you are starting physical therapy. Wish you all the best.
Marsha, I don't know how you have the energy to do so much on the weekend. I did spend a lot of time cleaning and straightening this weekend, and doing laundry, but I really would have liked to have relaxed.
Anngie, funny you should say that about Saratoga Springs. I was thinking that maybe we could go there for a few days to relax. Without racing, I figured it would be empty! Wrong I guess.
Karen, we have a client who also gets botox for migraines. We are helping her get Social Security Disability, she got divorced recently, and has MS. I wouldn't have thought it was used for that, but makes sense.
Karen, this is definitely crazy weather we are having, hot, then cold, then hot expected again. For a change, things on the news are being mis-reported. There are no more large gatherings than there are elsewhere, although in other places they are allowed, but it doesn't make them right. What our governor is trying to tell people is that the reason we got things under control here is because of the long time of stricter regulations, and if they didn't watch out, cases would start to rise again, like they have in many other states, and we don't want to go back to that.
Carol, I think you are being smart to stay in. With all the cases on the rise all over, because of no one caring, you don't know what can happen to you. It depends on how big your church is, but 100 people sounds like a lot. And, my guess is they probably were not wearing masks.
I made a reservation to go out to dinner on our anniversary. Now I have to hope that it is not too hot, because it is outdoor dining. I could wait until the day after, and do indoor, but our DS doesn't think that is safe to do.
I love to go to movies, but my DH really doesn't, unless it is something he really wants to see, now that they have the lounge chair seats. Of course who knows when we will be able to go to those again. For a few years my sister used to come out to go to the movies with our mother, and I went with them, so I saw quite a number. And, I used to go with my mother and sometimes a friend on Christmas Day.
On the Facebook page I mentioned that we were going to watch The High Note the other night. It looked interesting from all the things I saw on Facebook. It turned out it would cost $19.95 to rent it, and I said that was definitely not worth it. I doubt my DH would even like it.
Mah Jongg again tonight. I also have a Blue Apron box I have to unpack, but I am not in the mood for cooking, so I bought some prepared food. Teriyaki chicken breasts for me, something else for DH, he has to decide which one he wants.
