Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read.Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Beautiful morning, with the temp going to 82 later.
Gareth, lol, so I still have no idea what that title is, for what you googled. I think it is a fancy way of saying nurse...? Are you expecting 90 today? Some of these mornings have been so beautiful! I guess I shouldn't complain, as they are saying Thursday will be our only day of 90.
Pinky, how did therapy go? How many times per week do you go for it? Try not to push yourself too hard at first. Your tech side will come back with time, so don't worry about replying to the posts on here, we can certainly wait for you to get better. I am so happy you are doing so good!!!
Carol, for years, raising the kids, the only time we would go to the movies were with them, so it was rare, as spending money on movies seemed out of our budget. Then with cable, and then internet coming along, there was no need to go to theaters. And like you, I am more comfortable just knowing that the bathroom is close by, and of course the kitchen, lol! I admire you, sticking to your guns about not going out, I need to reign us in on going out in the world.
Marsha, I am on blue, but track everything I eat, regardless of whether it has points or not, so I know for myself how bad or good I did during that week, if I gained, or lost. Good idea about looking at my kindle account, I will do that today, later. I agree with Robin, about your weekend! I would need Monday off to recoup from your busy weekend's. But good for you, doing all that!
Anngie, about the headstone's: when we met with the cemetery about DB, we wanted him to be put by us, but there was no openings, so they suggested a couple spots further into the cemetery, in the older section, and said they would move us at no charge. We were fine moving, so all these months, with covid and all, we waited for his head stone to be done and signed off on, lol, now we are waiting on ours to be moved! The only plans so far for Father's day is going to DD2 house Friday, for a fish fry. DSIL is such a good cook, we know it will be great. Have not heard anything from DD1, but they usually wait till the end of the week. Any plans yet in your family?
Robin, I did miss you posting on Sunday, I thought it was strange that you missed a day. Did you hear why you lost power? That used to happen to us a lot out at our old house, I sure don't miss that. It sounds like the age group we all expected in the beginning of the pandemic to go against it, did. I am not surprised as all the things I read back then, in the early days of it, that age group does not really have much respect for our age group, as a matter of fact, they look down on us, as if we are the cause of so much that is bad with the country. They do not care for the baby boomers at all.
We went out to lunch yesterday at one of our favorite diners, and was disappointed to see the waitresses did not have masks on. So we won't be back there for a long, long time. They did everything else correct, but that bothered me, about the masks.
The city and school board are looking at opening the schools this fall and the biggest issue is the busses. I read last night that a bus that held 70 students last year, would only be able to hold 13 now! Yikes, they will need so many more busses, and who is going to pay for that? Even tho the parents are all saying the kids need to get back to school, I don't think they are thinking of all the logistics.
Have a great day everyone.

I don't feel that my weekend was all that busy. Since I'm not running errands every weekend like I used to (grocery and target and occassionally kohl's) I feel like I have too much time on my hands and I have a tendency to plant myself in front of the tv and sit there for hours if I don't have something else to do or somewhere else to be, and if I allow myself to do that I am angry with myself by Sunday night. (this is why I can't ever retire). so now I set myself a few essential chores, get them done, then allow myself to hit the couch. I feel like I could have done more this past weekend. I wandered through the garden yesterday and I can see that weeding will be back on the list this weekend. The chore that never ends. Like laundry.
Karen - a nurse practitioner can do much more than a nurse - they do exams and work closely one on one with a patient in treatment and diagnosis. Technically in their practice they are usually under the supervision of a doctor. A Physician's Assistant does similar things to the nurse practitioner and doesn't need a doctor to supervise. (that may vary by state) Doctors' offices use NPs and PAs now to do most routine things including exams and free up the doctors for more specialized things. DH's NP is probably well qualified to do what she does for him, but I would want a neurologist's opinion on his leg twitching also. At the neurologist you may still get a PA or NP but it would be one that specializes in neurology. Restless Leg Syndrome came to my mind, too, when you originally mentioned it. I think that requires a sleep study to diagnose.
DS and dfdil got a puppy. Very cute little 9 week old rescue of unknown origin. I think there is a lot of beagle in there, maybe some shepherd from the coloring. They were told lab shepherd mix but I'd be surprised if there was any lab in that dog. anyway, that makes 3 cats, a beta fish, and now a puppy, a new job, an engagement, and a house. I don't know what their hurry is. We worry about them. We were planning to go down again to see them after ds' next test which is next week so now we will definitely go to meet the new puppy.
Karen - I've never heard of having headstones placed while you are still - shall we say - above ground. I think the other big issue with school (that I haven't heard mentioned) is that they will have to cut class sizes in order to socially distance the kids, and that means more teachers and more classrooms. I hear that the UW system has issued guidelines for return to class. They are recommending what I've been saying all along - a hybrid approach where the big lectures are online and the small classes move into the big lecture halls so they can socially distance and priority given to lab type classes. I think that will work out fine but if I had a freshman starting I think I might want that freshman to wait a year or maybe go to a local technical college for a year. I would worry about the dorms. I wonder what the fraternities and sororities will do. For sorority rush last few years there are over 1000 girls that they take through all the houses and it's a bit of a mob scene. I don't know how they could do that safely. Maybe they will cancle fall rush and just do a big winter rush.
This morning I stopped at Kwik Trip for bananas. There was a woman going into the store, a customer, who was holding the door open with her elbow but didn't wear a mask. I found that combination odd. I wear a mask but don't worry about what I touch, I apply hand sanitizer when I get back in my car.
DH asked for a grocery list. He is out of fruit so he wants to go to the store. I made my menu. I need to look back at my menus from a few months ago and see how I stayed at under 26 points every day. I've been over 30 now for about a week and I don't feel like I'm eating badly. No cookies, no candy. Something must be creeping back that I'm not thinking about. Weight is holding steady and moving slowly up. Definitely not going down anymore.
That being said, dinner tonight burgers on the grill if dh goes to the store. If not, I'm not sure. The menu items for the next few days are contingent upon him shopping.

Busy morning. Laundry AGAIN! I've had one short walk and just had breakfast. Now I'm waiting for DH to get home to go for a longer walk. Beautiful, sunny morning but it's windy AGAIN. Each day has been warming up. Around 90º now for most of the week.
Karen, I'd have left as soon as I saw the waitresses without masks. I'm still though in no hurry myself to eat in a restaurant even if the waitresses were wearing masks.
Marsha, do you take Mitzie along when you visit DS?
Pinky, it was so good to hear from you! So sorry what happened to you. I looked back at the last time you wrote and remember now thinking at the time it wasn't like you. Anngie, I couldn't help but chuckle a little about you with the popcorn popper but don't feel bad. While I was still working at the WW studio I had to point out to people to expand it when they commented at how it wasn't very big and wouldn’t make much popcorn.
Hi Carol and Robin!

Gareth - we haven't been taking Mitzi to see ds but perhaps now that he has a puppy we will bring her. It would be interesting to see how she is with a puppy and also there are cats, but I expect the cats would remain out of sight. DS has a fenced in patio which includes the pool but not the yard. I'm not comfortable leaving Mitzi out there because she has never seen a pool.

I have seen both NPs and PAs and had no problem with them. A PA at my family doctor misdiagnosed a friend. I don't remember what her symptoms were, but what she had was shingles. It wasn't a real bad case. After seeing the PA and not getting better, she insisted on seeing a doctor. He called in the PA and said, "this is what shingles look like." Friend was really mad. She refuses to see that PA again. I see a PA for my migraines. I think PAs and NPs can prescribe drugs and nurses can't.
I can't remember the last time DH and I went to see a movie alone together. Years and years.
I don't know what they are going to do about public schools. The community college where DH works is going to have as many classes as possible on-line for the summer session. They hope things will have opened up for the fall semester.
Marsha, I know what you mean about worrying about what your kids and their (soon to be) spouses. We try to be quiet and only give our opinion when asked. It's hard to keep quiet though. I know our parents wondered the same about us when we were younger.
Robin, sorry about your internet. That is so frustrating.
I keep thinking I'll try to bake some bread, then forget to get yeast. I need to write it on my list in big letters.
DH saw his doctor and his blood pressure was fine. Dr. told him to come back in a week and have it checked again. If it is okay, he will notify the dentist.
Marsha, how is your DD doing? She is back at school, right?
Pinky, hope you are doing okay.

Carol - dd's classes started yesterday. She used to call a lot when she was walking home from class or wherever so we teased her that she has to call us when she walks from her class in the bedroom to her class in the living room. So yesterday I called her on my way home from work because I was on my way home... So far so good 1 class in. We will see what will be. She is happy to be back in Madison. Re yeast: A friend of mine had said that she bought yeast at Costco way cheaper than at the grocery store where it was hard to find. So dh and I kept an eye out at Costco and last time I was there I found it, and she is right, much cheaper, huge package, so I bought that and put it in the freezer. I won't need to buy more for a long time.

Beautiful weather day today, but busy day. We also had to take DH's car to get new tires. Picked up office lunch on the way back. We had salads that were on their specials list for the day, but then were charged the regular price. I also bought a chicken pot pie to bring home for DH. Not sure when I will make it, maybe Thursday. I had a big enough lunch that I will just eat my leftover later, maybe I will add in some lettuce if I have in the fridge.
Karen, we have yet to go out for dinner, but will see next Tuesday. I know that here the servers must wear masks. The governor is threatening to pull the liquor licenses of restaurants that don't comply with the new guidelines. Patrons must wear masks until seated. I will have to remind DH about that. I need to stop to buy more masks for us and for DS. He took the last of mine when he was here the other day.
Carol, I think most schools are doing summer classes online. I agree with what Marsha said, I hear that they will do a hybrid in the fall.
Marsha, I agree with you about your DS maybe rushing things a bit. I guess they want to have all the things that either they had as kids, or what they were not allowed to have but now can because they can make their own decisions. My kids were older when they settled down with their wives, even when they were just living together, and I think that makes a big difference.
Karen, I have been thinking about the schools going back here too. One thing I think about though is that our class sized, both per classroom, and per grade level, had a lot more students, 210 or so in my year, vs. 140 at most these days. I think they can get to 50% capacity if they do some sort of alternating times and days. In elementary school there used to be about 30 in each class, now I think there are about 22 or at the most 24. As far as buses, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of parents wanted to drive their own kids. Of course very few of them live very far from the school. The worst is one corner that maybe takes 10 minutes to get to the elementary school. I live less than 1 mile from the elementary and middle schools, and just over a mile to the high school. There is one are that is part of what is known as the Gold Coast, that used to be the large estates, still large plots of land for the most part. That is where are high school is, but it is on the southern end, so up on the northern end it can take a little longer, but nothing that far. Except for very few, most are within 2 miles of the elementary school that is close to the southern end of the district. They are saying kids will have to eat at their desks, and I am not sure why they are going to limit outdoor recess, but they are talking about doing things like yoga in gym, instead of playing games.
