What tips do you have for staying on plan while shopping at the grocery store?

I make a list before I go and I don't go browsing. When I started WW I did not make eye contact with the goodies in the bakery department. I was so proud of myself when I got to the point I could look at the goodies and not want to buy them. One idea I got from someone on the old WW message boards was to shop with a list and if you see something you want write it down to put it on the list for the following week. That way you can work it into your plan or decide you no longer want it.

Today it is six months until Christmas, and we start the review tomorrow (Friday, 06/26) with the Forward and Introduction.

I usually go with a list I don't deviate (often) unless something is on special and will sit in the pantry easily
I don't buy imported goods any more as they are not available or too expensive.
They don't have samples out so no worries

Ditto The List. Especially since COVID, I go with a list that I have mapped out in boxes, like a table on Word. I have boxes for PRODUCE, DRY GOODS, FROZEN GOODS, BOTTLED/CANNED GOODS, DAIRY, CLEANING PRODUCTS, & MISC. Each is a heading in it's own box, and underneath I make a list of what I need that week. It helps me get through the 3 stores I need to go to to get everything we like. If I didn't to it this way, I'd be in the stores a lot longer and I want to get in and get the hell out as quickly and efficiently as possible! I know it sounds a bit much but it works!

Not at all! The more structure the better, for me.

surfgirl, Goes back almost 45 years but I lived in Okinawa for awhile with my first husband when he was in the military. His office mate lived on base and didn't have a car and wanted to go to the commissary so I took him. As we came in I brought out my list (in store layout order) he said: you look like someone that would do that. Now I do my list in store order. I go across the store in one direction to get non-perishables then go back to beginning and go across again, produce, deli, meats, dairy, frozen, and then bakery for my husband's blueberry muffins.

I do my list in store order. I try to do that too, but I often have a last minute addition that messes up my order. Or the lane is clogged with carts so I have to circle back later; sometimes I will forget to do that even though the item is on my list. Selective vision?

lani, My list is on a piece of paper and I make a little tear in the paper right by the item when I put it in my cart so I know which items I've gotten. Then in the bakery, last stop before cashier I go over my list one more time. There are still times I forget something.
