Happy birthday, Liz. Hope you can have a good one.
We just got a βthing for bug bitesβ...actually called that..from Amazon. It is a suction device that pulls out the stuff mosquitoes and others out it that makes us react. Have not needed it yet. Our humidity comes around July 4 wHen we finally start getting dust storms followed by rain.
Yuck on those temps with humidity in Florida! Even when we do get humidity, it is only 30-40%. Of course, once you pass body temp, any humidity is nasty, and we average 106 right Now. our heat wave is down finally for a week.

Happy, Happy Birthday, Liz! Hope you're having a wonderful day!!
Thanks for the start, Chele. How were things at the farmers market? Does Iggy watch any of the PBS gardening shows? I saw one on Garden Smart this morning on urban and community gardens in Cleveland that was pretty surprising. Has he thought about taking a master gardener class and getting involved in those activities? That might give him a social outlet that he would enjoy and give you a little "me time". LOL on Hoarders Anonymous! There are a lot of us right now. We usually keep jars of dried beans on hand, so we just plan to increase there. It's good that you are stocking up now, since you were finding that a little challenging to do early on when you typically do it for tornado season. Dale cleaned out the closet under the stairs and that's where we plan to stockpile paper products. I think we're down to our last couple packages of TP and last few rolls of paper towels. Are you finding that you can only get smaller packages of TP right now, instead of the mega packs that used to be available? We're having the same problem here with bread flour. I like King Arthur best but it's been a few months since we've been able to get it, so I'm using what we can get. I rarely eat bread, but I make a loaf for Dale frequently and he also gets Arnold's multi-grain at the store. So I'm going to have to up bread making if we have to lock down again this fall/winter. Going with COBRA was probably the safe thing to do on insurance with the current issues, but it shouldn't be that way. Rocky almost made it to the feeder a little while ago. He was on the railing about 6 ft away when I saw him. It's amazing how he can go airborne off the deck.
Kathy, do you find it challenging to stock up for the uncertain future while getting groceries delivered? There was a columnist on a news show this morning who lives in FL and calls your guv, "Governor Disastrous" . Yes, I'm sure there are a lot of people who already have tickets for the first day Disney is scheduled to reopen. We have a misty day so far and are expecting rain this afternoon and storms tomorrow. So I don't think we will get much from the Saharan dust. I just saw an interview with Mayor (Mr. Val) Demings regarding covid. Talk about a power couple!
Abbott is at least doing something, Becky, but what he's doing now will take a couple of weeks to take hold, provided people don't ignore the warnings. I haven't heard any stupid statements from the lt. gov. lately, so is he keeping his mouth shut? I heard Pence calling for prayer, which is typical for him. But I was brought up hearing, "God helps those who help themselves" so I'm afraid prayer isn't going to be enough. Sometimes I wonder if, given the virus and the political unrest, God has given up on us as a country and we're going down in flames. I hope you will be somewhat recovered from your last PT session before Monday, since you had some extra time. Can you get some shelf-stable meats that you could keep in storage that wouldn't be overly expensive? I love trout but often can't find it around here. But I did find some canned smoked trout at TJ's that I'll be trying this week. It's in oil, but I can rinse that off.
Linda, Bashas sounds quite unique, with 3 different emphases. Have you been to the Mexican type? What's special about German napkins? Do you get a lot of Vietnamese shrimp there? I don't know that I've seen shrimp from Viet Nam here. We get a lot from the Gulf Coast. Let me know how the "thing for bug bites" does. They LOVE me and I tend to forget to put on my homemade repellent every time I go outside. I had to put Arya's flea and tick stuff on this morning (we get her the one made from essential oils) because I pulled a tick off her fanny Thursday before bed. She wouldn't leave the spot alone and when I looked, there it was. So she kind of stinks right now. Do you think your governor will close things down again? Like Kathy's governor, I've heard some rather unflattering names for your guy, such as Governor D-----bag. Got to say he deserves it IMO. When is he up for re-election? I love the Paris scene. They had a restaurant on TV a few weeks ago where every other booth has manikins dressed up like patrons. I've always been a fan of teddys however, so I wish I was in Paris right now.
Enjoy your weekend, Denise. Do you have any special plans? How many of your 8 lbs of strawberries do you have left and are you eating them plain, making pies, freezing them? The ones in the grocery store don't even come close.
I changed the bed and laundered the sheets and quilt. Did some treadmill time, too. I'll do a few more workshops from the Mother Earth News Fair, but not planning much more. I do have some cleaning to do in the kitchen because I put oats on for Arya's breakfasts and kinda forgot about them. I managed to salvage some, but the bottom of the pan is burned and when I used baking soda and water to loosen the burned stuff, it boiled over so I have to clean the stove.

Happy Birthday Liz!! ππ°π Hope you have a great day.
Chele, lol on Hoarders Anonymous. My guestroom has been turned into Supply Central and my hallway is TP Alley. I was really hoping we'd get a break this summer to regroup, but our governor is an idiot, so no such luck. I'm leery of stocking the fridge too full this time of year due to hurricanes and power outages, but I'm going to start getting extra pantry and paper products each week. The sunsets with the Sahara dust have been strange and colorless. They look like an old faded B&W photo. Karen, interesting on the mask analysis. People have said the students around here aren't wearing them in the stores. Our zip codes took another big jump this week, so it's getting worse, not better. I just plan on buying some extra supplies each week, so I don't think that'll be any different with delivery. They were able to deliver even during the shutdown, so hopefully that will continue. One thing I've been doing is checking to see if Amazon Pantry has what I'm looking for when I'm ordering groceries. Their selection is still kind of limited, but their prices are quite a bit cheaper for most of the items they have. Oh no on the oats! Sounds like something I would do. Ha, Governor Disastrous sounds about right.
Becky, hope there aren't any more nekkid people running around today! I don't plan on stocking up on meat either. I don't really have the space and it is too expensive. I never think it's as good once it's frozen anyway. I hope the pain is a bit better today.

.No more elective surgery and hospitals went into surge mode. They are talking opening field medical units and an old Phx hospital. They say our state has same pattern as NYC had when things went bad, but gov. just shrugs . NY was lucky they did not have him. he just says you should wear a mask..no requirements by state. County requires it but not enforced. A lot of people seem to be paying attention though. People are starting to stock up on stuff again. I never stopped...saw it coming. Our garage looks like paper product and laundry/ cleaning stuff are us.
The βwestβ has this romanticized idea of the old gunslinger and freedom, the place to do what you want. The fact that Sheriffs and marshals in many places made people who came to town Check their guns is forgotten. The image of western gunfights Mostly is movie stuff based on a couple famous tragedies. The fact that many cowboys were Jewish or Ex slaves in a new job is not mentioned much either. Name Goldwater ring a bell? So Here we have personal freedom and βhold my beerβ dumb stuff over responsibility to fellow humans. We have tourists! one of those short term rental houses is next street up big pool party last night and Three cars and a truck with huge dune buggy in drive. Casinos finally got smart and set up strict regulations because the dealers got sick. the clubs and bars are so crowded Scottsdale finally made some close and started handing out fines. No shuts downs in sight from gov. Nobody applied mask law to the 3000 plus Trump student rally in a church last week..,but they did use nasty force on protesters who were not doing much except one or two pushed a cop. Police told them they had no right to assemble and started getting close. They had no interest in stopping an anti mask protest the next day or two. that church is telling people their air scrubbers make it safe...finally county came down on them. Yeah, that air is clean, but you get infected by the Next person breathing on you.
Heat wave moved off for a week so it wasn't too bad until after 12....under 95 is not bad here. Norm is 106. So I worked on a puzzle, walked dog, will start supper soon

Karen, I just saw another name for our governor: DuhSantis. Fits right in with Floriduh! Have you seen any signs of the Sahara dust? The haze is thicker today and I think we're going to have another gray sunset. They said if it rains, it will be a very dirty rain. The Demings are definitely a power couple!
Chele, I took COBRA when I retired last year, but you can only do it for 18 months. It would've run out in mid September, so I switched to an ACA policy this year so I'd have the same deductible all year long.
Linda, things sound worse where you are, but maybe we're just a couple of weeks behind you. Our hospitalization numbers are rising, but not as bad as yours. It's really amazing that something like wearing a mask could turn into a political thing.

Kathy, we can see rain coming from across the lake because it gets very hazy. It has looked like that all day but no rain, which must be the dust. No sunset here but we haven't had any sun. We're supposed to have rain tomorrow, so dirty rain is not a good thing. LOL on Supply Central. I would be tripping over TP in our hallway. Stay safe. I hope we can get a freezer before August but it's not looking too hopeful. With the generator, we don't have to worry about a power outage but I can definitely sympathesize with you after 2 to 4 day outages at the other house on numerous occasions. I need to look at Amazon Pantry a bit more closely. DuhSantis fits. You're so right about the unexpected politics of masks. But then there are a lot of things that have been totally unexpected this year.
I heard something about a field hospital there, Linda. I hope it's not needed, but the way things are going, I'm afraid it will be. Without enforcement that has some teeth in it, some people won't change their actions. And even with an enforced policy, some people won't. I wish we had room in our garage for paper products. Too full of vehicles. We have tourists, too. Lots of redneck tourists who are given locally branded masks at the visitors centers but, instead of wearing them, they take them home as souvenirs. In about a week and a half to two weeks you should know how many of the church folks have turned up positive. In the meantime, they are spreading it to who knows how many people. We said the same thing about the high dollar air scrubbers at that church. Enjoy your cool weather.

Thanks for the start Chele.
Karen An Abilene bar decided not to close even after Abbott ordered all bars would just have to go to liquor to go.It isn't like they had to close completely.I just read on my phone where they pulled their license pulled.Actually the Lt Governor said on national TV the night before Abbott made his announcement he said TX would not close back down. I guess he was wrong. He's still an idiot.I don't believe God only helps those who help themselves. He helps anyone who believes in Him and asks Him in their hearts.Having said that I do believe we need some leaders to take leadership and all that comes with it in addition to praying. You notice he wasn't wearing a mask.God has not and will not give up on us.I don't really care for canned meat.I eat the low sodium tuna in pouches but that's about it.Kenneth eats canned soups but that's for lunches.I finished the cantaloupe on Thursday and yesterday we cut open the yellow meat watermelon and it is so good.Being ripe makes all the difference.
Thanks Kathy. No more nekkid men today on my walk. The pain level is still there but as long as I walk every hour in the afternoons after doing my walk and do the exercises PT sent home with me to do at home it's not too bad.
Linda They aren't doing elective surgeries in our 4 largest counties. However Kenneth's cousin has sinus cancer. She has already had one surgery cancelled due to Covid and has already had chemo so they are going to allow her to get hers done even though it's in Dallas County.

Oh BEcky, I hope she gets that cancer surgery. It does not seem elective to me!
My niece's mom (brother's Ex) just squeaked in for the knee replacement.
Sorry for my rant earlier...it is just frustrating to have the dumbest State Now with people dying ,often horribly and alone.... everything going to #$&$ with leader who will not lead. His advice? βDo the right thing. It is up to you.β The mayors are not closing things either! There has to be a special place in bad afterlife for all the people supposed to lead in this pandemic who dropped the ball or tried to pretend it was not there so they would look good.
read an article in Forbes that the super spreaders are house parties government has little control over...in Italy they broke those up! Curfew stopped them too.

Becky, do they know how many people got infected at the bar in Abilene? That's just irresponsible and it's good that they lost their license. LOL on Abbott and Patrick making contradictory statements. So, do I understand that TX has stopped any further reopenings for now but only some local thngs are being backtracked? Things look especially bad in Houston and Harris County. I've also not be a fan of canned meats even when I did eat meat. I usually get the wild caught canned tuna and haven't tried the low sodium packets but would be a good thing to stock up on. Yay on the ripe watermelon. I wonder if mine was underripe. I juiced it and mixed it with tea. Still not that great. Sorry about Kenneth's cousin but it's good that they waived the elective surgery policy under the circumstances. It sounds like she's been through enough. How's the soreness today?
I think there are other states just as dumb, Linda. It's a shame that so many people in so many states basically put their lives on hold for about a month and reopened too quickly and now we're worse off than we were before. Dale and I have been saying all along that we're on our own. I haven't read the Forbes article, but I'm not surprised. And this is the time of the year for parties and barbecues and people don't want to have to be inconvenienced.
Kathy, I heard your governor isn't changing anything and said, "we are where we are". DUH! is right!! Any change in your dust situation? We're cloudy again so who knows what our status is.
Did you go out on the water today, Denise?
We've had pretty heavy rain off and on and are expecting more. We cleaned a little space out in the pantry to make room for stocking up, moving out things that we didn't use that frequently. They are tall and deep spaces, so they will hold a lot. I also work on a few masks. One is fine but the other two, which are performance fabric filter pockets, are too big for me, so I'll have to start from scratch on those.
Waving to the rest of the gang.

Yeah, our leaders are dumbest now. Even TX and FL backtracked on what is open and hours, not a single thing restricted at state level or local on opened stuff here even with daily photos of crowds. Young people continue to party, mob the river tubing , crowds bars and clubs because they think if they do get symptoms, it will not be that bad..majority of hospital cases are now them and 30% of all AZ cases have been this week! The only big groups wearing masks are the continuing protests. today,s paper had big article on contact notifications ...county texts you and only 20% respond. Then county only notifies their contacts 65 and older. They never got the system going, and now it is too late. Where the money went is a question.
I almost never have wine but decided to have a little with supper then DH was to pour a little more for after supper tv. When I looked at the glass, I though...only really swallow and gulped it. Oh boy. Same kind of glass, but it was his slivowitz...100 proof clear plum brandy. That was some gulp. Top of head lifted.
would you believe no buzz? Alcohol just often gives me a headache.
not much today...but if C, making a Mac salad for supper and cut out a lot of COVID related articles for archives file at museum...June folder is now five inches. I had expected not to have much to cut by now...but we are in red alert territory. Sigh.
