Such a happy sight- seeing a hummingbird. They are such marvels of nature. Birds in general are marvels of nature almost seems miraculous that they can fly....and then these little hummingbirds are such amazing acrobats. Hope your day stays cool and comfortable. Enjoy.
Had a successful trip to Hobby Lobby with Dd. She needed a lot of stuff to decorate her walls and all wall decor was on sale. I picked up a wreath for the bedroom I just painted.
Its sure warm here. Think I will work on trimming the quilt. Ginny

Sue, it was very hot here today. It must have been very early when it was cool there. It's to be 90 or over for the next 10 days.
I worked on my blanket today while sitting in front of my fan. It's pretty much at the length I want it but the hearts are staggered...odd rows have 4 hearts and evens have three. I want it to end with an odd row to match the first row so have to do 2 more heart sections then the edging. Maybe before I do more blankets I need to take a week and do Sid and the doll. It really should take only one day for each one. I couldn't get to sleep last night so was tired today and took a two hour nap.
CJ, I still had my computer open to that Pat Sloan site and really do love those blocks.
Ginny, I'm glad you and your dd has success at HL today. I'm not good at decorating so it takes me a long time to get a new place decorated. I'm still not really satisfied with the wall hangings I have here.
I don't know if they're still having the fireworks here or not. They had said about a month ago that they were but they've started closing things here again such as the bank lobbies because of increasing cases to maybe they've cancelled fireworks. I don't watch local news very often. We'll see what happens.

Ruth, whenever I check out temperatures for your area I marvel at the wide swings between day time highs and nighttime lows. Hope that the heat wave breaks soon. Daytime highs in the 90โs are no fun for anyone. It would be great if you could finish up that blanket quickly and then move onto something else. I know you would love to get Sid behind you and done- how large is the doll you are going to make? So sorry that you were not able to sleep well, that just seems to make the whole day go poorly. Did the nap help? Here they were talking about fireworks- the only one I know of are the county fireworks which will be in 2 weeks ( I am sure they will be packed- I have no intention of going) Yes I think that many are changing or altering their plans for this holiday weekend. From what I am seeing of the covid cases nationwide, its a scary situation and must be taken seriously. As far as wall hangings go, Dd and I search the internet (as does Dd#1) and get ideas on how others have decorated walls. We did that yesterday as Dd had an idea and we were interested in different ways to accomplish that. I spoke to Dd#1 this morning and Dd#2 is still trying to see what works best for her.
Finished trimming the quilt last night. Time to iron the binding and get it sewn together. G

we won't make a habit of it.did feel good to be out.
came home and trimmed my table mat.was going to sandwich it. have all kinds of scrap batting but not the right size.isn't that how it goes.
bought two bags of small batting.
I did not have the tape to sew batting together.oh boy that would take time to sort.
will be in my playpen today for how long the si nerve will let me.
everybody have a safe forth and enjoy the day the best you can.this will a be quiet day for all of us

Hello Crafters - Happy 4th of July to all of you It's been so hot and humid here, just miserable. I'm staying inside as much as possible. I have about 4 rooms in the house that I can keep fairly cool, so I stay in those. It makes me realize how little of my house I really use. I was looking at houses again and saw one that was only 1000 square feet and I keep looking at it to figure out how much of my "things" I could place in a house that size. It would be a big adjustment from my large house but it would be nice to have less things. I finished the first four blocks for the Jelly Snowflake quilt along and they turned out really well. I only had to rip out 2 seams, so I call that a win The fabric I'm using really starched well when I pressed it and it's made piecing a lot easier. I put one of the blocks together first just to see how it would go and then after that I was able to chain piece the other three blocks, so it went fairly quickly. I would like to do this quilt in another color/theme so I might look through my fabrics and see what I could find. I have a lot of nautical type fabric and I thought those might work. The only problem with most of them is that the design on them is large and once you cut the fabric into 2 1/2 strips you lose a lot of the look of it. I hope you are all having nice weather for the holiday and that you all stay safe. Most of the fireworks I've been hearing around my house for the last month have been the noisy ones. I hope people don't put off the others since it's been very dry here. Is anyone making special meals today? I didn't plan to, but then decided to make some macaroni salad and have a burger, since I bought some frozen ones the last time I was at the store. It will be a little bit like the old cookouts my family always had on the holidays when I was young Take care and enjoy the holiday!

Fireworks around the neighborhood for the past two nights. The woofers move a little closer. We're supposed to have some of natures fireworks in a few hours! The rain should stop just in time for dark and more fireworks tonight.

We live in a very quiet area so no fireworks here. I still don't know if the official ones are still going to be done tonight.
CJ, I often think the same thing that I want a smaller house. I don't know where I'd put my yarn and fabric nor all of dh's tools, etc. I guess I'd have to buy a storage shed. The nautical fabric sounds very pretty but yes, it will be a challenge to use if the look is changed by the small strips you need to make. All you can do, I guess, is try one and see how it works.

Phyl, Hope that your blood work all comes out ok. Nice to get it out of the way- at least until September. Perhaps you will get good news on Monday about your platelet count. I am sure it felt great to be out for breakfast. Think that is a long way off before I would take myself out for breakfast.
CJ- that is awesome news that you only had to rip out two seams on the jelly snowflake quilt. It is such a pleasure when fabric starches well and then cuts and sews well. For my BOM I was supervised that not all fabrics held up as well as others. Some seemed less tightly woven and flimsy- even though they were all quilt shop quality. I do understand about the large house syndrome. (A year ago three other people lived with me....now Ds is the only one). Sometimes my average size house feels so huge. But its home....for now. And I guess you feel the same way, although you have been discussing going elsewhere. It sure is nice to have the extra space for storage of quilting materials and fabric. I took a video tour of Pat Sloans crafting room- seems pretty large to me! No special meals for me....ended up out with Ds trying to straighten out his problems with verizon. We came home and used up what was in the fridge.
Sue- hope its not too noisy and evening near you....bet its upsetting to the dogs.
Ruth a storage shed sounds like a good idea, as long as you can keep mice out. We have had trouble here with mice- and they do like to get into anything soft that they can use for a nest.
Quiet here. Part of me wants to watch some fireworks on TV- but I doubt I will. i am weary from protests across the country and really do not want to watch anything that would be remotely political this evening.
The humidity broke today- but its still warm. Not looking foward to cold weather and snow, but I sure would enjoy some cool fall days Ginny

I forgot all about the fireworks. They were still going to have them but I just realized it's after 10:30 so they are over. I didn't know they were going to have an airshow at the White House but dh and I turned the tv on in time to see what had to be most of it.
My ds had Verizon for his cell phone way back when he went into the Army. What a hassle I had trying to get it cancelled after he left

Well even if I had tried to forget the fireworks, it would not have done any good. I stood on the deck and watched/listened. There were 3 or 4 individuals within a mile of my house shooting off fireworks. I did turn on the National fireworks for a few minutes, switching to the NYC/Macys fireworks (they had a musical group that was not to my taste so I switched to the National fireworks). I ended up turning it all off....and reading.
Wish there was some way I could blast Verizon for having a very unfriendly customer service system. The young man who attempted to help Ds was great- but because of a cumbersome customer service system he was able to accomplish nothing.
Got church inside this morning. We will be split up between the sanctuary, church gym and fellowship hall and the service (live in the sanctuary) will be live streamed to the other two rooms. It will be nice to be in an airconditioned area.
Looks like a hot week for my area. Think I will get busy on some quilting projects- to keep me inside and out of the heat.
Have a good day all Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Hope you had a nice holiday yesterday. Several people in my neighborhood put off fireworks and there were some really beautiful ones. I enjoyed seeming them, especially since they were several house away from me. I always worry about sparks from them getting on my house and it's been really dry here too. Ginny - I hope church went well, sounds like they have enough space to spread everyone out for safety. Ruth - My plan if I ever move is to have at least 2 bedrooms. I'll sleep in the smaller one and set up my sewing room in the larger one Sue - Hope your dogs made out alright last night. Phyl - Hope your test results are good. Meg - Hope you are well, I would love to hear from you. The houses I'm looking at are one story and I really want that to get away from having steps in the house. I also figure if I get a smaller house it will cause me to have less things and also it would be easier to clean. I know I'll never find exactly what I want, so I hope I can just find something that meets most of my needs. It's still hot here so I'm staying inside. I used the oven and stove yesterday but today I'm just going to use the microwave. It's amazing how much extra heat the oven adds in the kitchen. I did enjoy my burger and macaroni salad though - it was almost like having a cookout I decided to do a second quilt for the Jelly Snowflake quilt along and picked out my fabrics - a darkish rose pink, a soft green and a white with small pink flowers and green leaves. This will be different from the Christmas fabric, so it will be a nice change. It works well for me to do two different colorway projects at once since I can get them done better that way. Deadlines work for me instead of just working on something on my own. I also found another kit I have had for several years and forgot about it. It's the BQ2 pattern shown on this website (you have to scroll down a bit): mapleislandquilts.com/miq-patterns/bq-nation/- If you click on the button to the right of the picture that says "View Quilts" you can see some done in this pattern The fabrics I have for it are a cream and a sage green for the side and bottom strip colors and a pretty pink carnation all over print for the large block. I saw this quilt in a quilt shop (it was made and hanging on their wall) a long time ago and bought the pattern and the fabrics to match what they had done. I'll try to work on that this month too. Take care everyone!

Good evening CJ- You sure are the queen of different quilting web sites! How do you find them all?? (All these quilting web sites that is). The BQ3 pattern is neat- its got a different kind of symmetry to it-i like the imbalanced yet balanced look of the quilts. (What a rotten description I just gave!) There must be a way to describe patterns like that. They are very interesting for sure. Good to hear that all the local fireworks were far away from your home so that you were not concerned for your safety. It is a big concern and as much as fireworks are fun, most of the time they are best left to the professionals. Glad you were able to enjoy your hamburger and macaroni salad meal. I love macaroni salad, perhaps a bit too much. Best if I leave it alone....and not make it for myself. Donโt blame you for making a second Jelly snowflake quilt - its an easy pattern and will showcase the fabrics you have selected. Hope you have fun putting it together and seeing how your new fabric selection looks. I hear ya, a one story house with 2 bedrooms sounds divine- not too much to clean or maintain. When you are ready to make the change, I hope you can find something that meets most of your needs/desires. Here in my area there are very few ranches....tough for those of us who are maturing and do not want stairs.
Looks like a challenging week ahead. Chances are very good that Dd#1 will have the baby. And it also appears as though my SIL (Dhโs sister, who lives a few miles away) is nearing the end of her time. (Stomach cancer). I pray that Dd gets through her labor/delivery and it is not complicated by arrangements for SIL. Dd will want to attend whatever services there are- whatever is allowed in this Covid environment. From what I read it appears as though they will permit a gathering of 25 people.
I spent a lot of time on the phone with DSIL in florida - she And DBIL will not be coming up for the funeral. First of all they would have to quarrantine for 14 days - and the funeral would be over with by then- and second DBIL does not want to bring Covid home to DSIL who is immuno suppressed. I had to get their desires for flowers to order, if flowers can be ordered. Should it be restricted to only a graveside ceremony, think we will all skip the flowers.
I did get the binding cut this afternoon. Hoped to do more but then got stuck texting and calling with my kids and DSIL. Another week starts tomorrow. And for me, it looks to be a very hot week ahead. Ginny

CJ, I'm glad to hear that you are making another of those quilts. It's such a great one I would definitely want to make more than one. Yes you sure are good at finding great sites online.. I love them. I'm not crazy about the one you posted today...BQ2 or whatever. It wouldn't be one of my favorites but it's great that we all have our preferences.
Ginny, it sure does sound as though your week will be complicated in many ways. I saw a video on FB that was posted by the leader of one of the crochet groups. I don't know where she lives but her father just passed away and the video was part of his funeral service at the graveside with full military honors etc and it looked like a lot of people were there. I know she doesn't live in your state though.
Well I finished the blanket. It's huge. I haven't measured it so in inches maybe not as big as I think but it took almost two whole Pound of Love skeins. I do have a couple ends to weave in but am mostly done. I don't think I'll start another right now and will stick to my plan of doing small things in the hot week to come but you never know. I get anxious to start things I see online.
Have a great evening all
