This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ************************************ The Dayton City Commission just passed a mask ordinance inside businesses and in public spaces where 6 feet distancing is not possible. It begins tomorrow at 8 am. Yellow Springs also has passed a mask ordinance. None of the suburbs around here have passed the same yet. I am hopeful it will happen.
Iggy and I have some errands today, so if I donât make it back have a good day.

Thanks for the start, Chele. Goo job to your city commission. Knox County put their into effect tomorrow. There were plenty of non-compliant people today. I told Dale maybe they were waiting until they were required to wear a mask. Probably not. How's the eye?
Denise, I would definitely avoid the holiday crowds as much as possible. I wonder if you'll also have protests this weekend. Keep cool, especially when you have to wear a mask. I started making some out of performance fabric I got at Joann and they are cooler and I can breathe through them. I've seen pictures of a lot of healthcare people getting facial rashes from wearing them Hope you have avoided that. I am also a major fan of Watercolors. We also have something similar on Dish called City Lights that is still C-Jazz but they play different songs.
Everything is connected, Becky, so if your back is affecting your knee progress, working lower back and hips might be a good option. You have built exercise into your life, so it would be difficult if she told you to stop walking or biking at this point. At least surgery isn't on the table right now, so that's good. LOL on Kenneth's cousin. How far do they live from the hospital that he can't be with her but is staying in a hotel?
Linda, I love the national days calendar. We all need to eat our beans tomorrow and I'm looking forward to the 24th. I hope you and Bob are hunkering down with the number of cases in your area. We're up pretty significantly here as well. TN set a new daily record and we have 76 new cases in Sevier County alone. Gotta love those tourists!
Do you get a 3-day weekend, Liz?
Kathy, thanks again for the Sirius reminder. It was nice to have something different to listen to on the trip today--especially stuck in Sevierville traffic coming home. I was able to switch between Yacht Rock (311) and Watercolors (66). How are your temps? We are in the mid 90s for heat index. Are you going to do anything for the 4th, given the circumstances?
Traffic was great going to Osteo but coming home was a different matter. I just need to remember to start taking the back way, which is more miles but less traffic. I did stop at Gold's on the way home and it wasn't crazy, but there were several teenage boys whose mommies apparently clean up after them and they couldn't seem to sanitize the machines when they finished. A couple of them sweated all over the back extension machine and it was nasty. So I wiped that one down extra good before I used it. I'm going to go to Workout Anytime Monday or Tuesday next week and get signed up there so I can use the one in Sevierville but also one in Knoxville on my way home that never looks very crowded. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes today, so I hope I didn't catch anything. I stopped at Papa Murphy's and brought home pizza and a cinnamon wheel. I got mozzarella cheese on my crustless this time, which is different for me. I'll have it over some chickpea spaghetti for extra protein. I hope to swim in the morning before the lake gets crowded. Dale and I will be working on the big freezer and try to get some kind of organization. I stopped at Dollar General and picked up some magnetic dry erase boards today so we can know at a glance what we have and what needs restocked. I also have a MG Zoom tomorrow, so it will be a busy day.

Four gym chains are refusing to close here and one is suing the guv. People exerting themselves spew out more drop, etc that go more than six feet. I find it odd that one lost its liquor license! I guess it is attached to them but owned by them.
pence came this week and promised 500 medical people and help $...Hope it is better than his other promises. Our rate of infection graft looks like a ski jump. We keep setting records.
I see where high school and college age people are having challenges in ALabama for who can get infected first? Lovely...younger people automatically get preference in critical care while some old person dies from lack of personnel and beds. That would be the ones they then infected.
cicadas are loud, and that usually means monsoon season is starting. We have a very slight chance if rain today, which in my experience means we get dust storm pushed out by storm while other people get rain..At least itâs shortened next heat wave and contained it at 110.
i went to my little plant nursery...have it to myself in summer heat late morning on a weekday. Masks required. So I got vinca and begonias and black eyed Susans and planted them for when the other stuff dies. Something to look at While staying home , plants that live until the end of Sept. got it planted.
noticed Bank of America has closed almost every branch here

Good Afternoon Chicks and Happy Thursday. Chele - I surely do hope that the steroids help and that the nodule will diminish substantially. How was the drive with Iggy and the Starbucks tea? We are doing a lovely 91 right now and the humidity isn't helping. I'm happy that the gov. isn't opening inside dining in the city as they have been pretty bad just with outdoor dining and bar establishments. People truly don't seem to understand how infectious they can be without masks and being completely asymptomatic. It's truly sad to see so many states going backwards or just escalating in cases; not just confirmed cases but SICK people requiring hospitalization. Any plans for the weekend? The grill will be delivered and put together tomorrow morning. Gary opted to buy a Weber with 3 burners I think and storage underneath. I can only imagine! But I will look forward to being able to grill for a good portion of the year when I do want to cook not inside. Denise - moonriver, I also wear a mask all day in work and everyone in the hospital has been complaining about how difficult they are to wear in this heat and humidity. At least if I am in my office alone, I am allowed to take my mask off. How's work doing for you? Have you seen any difference in volumes? Kathy - hunker down my GF; that state of yours is a mess with cases and doesn't seem to be taking it serious enough. I got concerned this morning being on a subway car with about 30 people and at least they all had masks on. It's uncomfortable with that many people now after months of so few. I do have Sirius and love the classic rock Vinyl channel and and classic rock cassette era. Gary renewed it for me in the car which was a nice surprise. How are the bear sightings? How are you and DM feeling lately? Linda - I am very worried for you; the information on the hospitals out there is not good. Your ICUs are full and the cases aren't letting up. I know you're keeping safe but it confounds me how truly stupid and ignorant people can be. I remember when I was one of the only people actually traveling through Grand Central and the other people inside were the loonies, homeless and police. Not sure who was better or worse. 5 minutes in an ICU with COVID19 patients on vents would change many ignorant minds. I hope you stay safe and healthy. Love your cartoons and sayings! Becky - hope the PT continues to be helpful. I think I probably will need a permanent lift once I have had my check-up next month with the hip doc. I will see the physiatrist a week from this coming Monday for my cortisone shot and to talk about the left knee as well. Hope that you, Kenneth and the fur babies are all enduring the heat alright and keeping safe and healthy. I need to go dear ladies, Karen....I will write to you while I am on the train on the way home. Be safe and well all; ciao for now~

Chele, it looks like more and more places are finally requiring the masks. I don't think ours has much enforcement behind it though. I saw that Herman Cain was hospitalized with Covid-19 after attending the Tulsa rally. There was a picture of him there and nobody was wearing a mask. Denise, that's a long time to have to wear a mask. I don't think there's any way around them being uncomfortable for that long. I listen to the Beatles channel sometimes too. Karen, they added a station for the Calm app on Channel 68. It's got some nice relaxing meditative music. We're back to more normal temps in the lower to mid 90s and we had some heavy rain today. No plans for the 4th. There are still several fireworks shows planned for the area, but Orlando cancelled their Lake Eola show downtown. Ewwww on having to wipe down the equipment! That's bad enough in normal times. I think I would've left at that point. Linda, neither of our states are doing well. We broke another record for new cases. It sounds like the hospital situation is worse in AZ, at least so far. I saw that about the Alabama challenges. That's really nuts. Liz, I've been hunkering down through this whole thing! Our cases were so low in my zip code until the bars reopened and the students went out partying. It certainly is a mess. The Central FL beaches will be open this weekend and some fireworks shows will go on. I flip around among a lot of the rock stations. I'm really enjoying the new U2 channel. It's nice to have them as a selection whenever I want and they have some fun content on it. Nice of Gary to renew your subscription. No more bear sightings reported this week, but I know they're out there! DM is doing very well and we're both feeling fine. It would just be nice to go somewhere! Hope you had a good commute home and have a quiet Friday. Any plans for the holiday weekend? Becky, I'm glad you don't need surgery and hope they can work out what you need soon.

Thanks, Liz. Groceries at the corner During quiet times with masks every ten days and drive thru prescriptions are pretty much it now. Every place requires masks. but I have to get blood works Tuesday for my annual thyroid ultrasound the next week to be sure nodules are not growing. At least I have a place that will only let two People inside with appointments...at the back of a Safeway. But you can use the one way aisles and dodge people. Not happy though.
We decided today will be my birthday instead of Sunday so Bob can pick up Thai right at their front door and escape. They close three day weekend. I had wanted carrot cake slices from cafe, but they still have dining in! You walk past them for take out now..no curbside. So forget that. I said I wanted mango sticky rice instead with our Thai. Then we can just stay home.

Hello, Chicksters. moonriver, Denise I am doing okay. I hope you are surviving the heat. I am going to have to break down and water the lawn. How are the strawberries you picked? We passed a âu pick peasâ place today and were tempted to stop but it was just way too hot. Any fireworks scheduled around you? Liz, good to near from you. I hope you have tomorrow or Monday off. The Weber has grill is a good one and 3 burners! Woo Hoo! I canât even imagine seeing all those patients on ventilators. I barely can stand a mask for an hour or two. I donât know how you and Denise do it for hours on end. How are DMIL, DSM, DS and family doing? Did you ever see the rheumatologist? No plans for weekend. We wonât get into crowds of party goers or eat at a restaurant. Most of the farmerâs markets are closed on Saturday but we are going to Yellow Springs with fingers crossed that theirs is open. We may see some fireworks from our house at a nearby park. Enjoy whatever plans you have. Kathy, I did listen to the U2 station on our travels today. Thanks for the tip. I wouldnât want to losten to meditative music while driving. đ
We just keep reopening things here. The Air Force Museum opened on Wednesday, masks required, yada, yada, yada. I just let Iggy pump his own gas today with mask and gloves, of course. We wanted to travel a little this summer now that Iggy is retired. Now we just talk about it. Karen, you are braver than I am. Like Kathy, I would have walked out if I saw all that sweat on the machine. Good idea on the board for the freezer. Iggy is constantly asking me what we have in the freezer in the basement. You know my answer is âGo look.â I hope with you having Rocky the Squirrel around that Bullwinkle doesnât show up. Our little chipmunk has been nibbling the baby cherry tomatoes in the pots. Elmer talks a big game but the chipmunk and the squirrels live. How was the pizza with cheese over chickpea spaghetti? I pickled some red onions yesterday and am waiting to see how they turned out this weekend. honestly, the eye doesnât appear any better to me. I go back to the doctor on Tuesday. Becky, I am glad you donât have to have surgery. Also glad to near Kennethâs cousin is feeling feisty. Thanks for the welcome to the 90s club. No relief for at least a week. Linda, thanks for the July calendar. The day care centers here are suing because they are not allowed enough children to make it profitable. One center had 12 children and 6 staff testing positive for the virus. Yet the others want more children. Dumb! I am glad you got a chance to Zen out at the plant nursery. Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Thanks for the start Chele.
Karen Yes she said the scoliosis is what's hindering the knee right now.I didn't walk outside today because it's too dang hot and humid. The hospitals aren't allowing visitors in patients rooms because of Covid. They live in East Texas and her surgery was in Dallas.I didn't believe Abbott had it in him but finally issued a statewide face mask mandate for counties with more than 20 cases. It will go into effect tomorrow afternoon at 12:01. Only exceptions are children under 10 and adults who have a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask.I guess he finally woke up and decided we have a problem in Texas.First offense is just a warning but the second offense the individual can be fined up to $250 but no jail time.Even before he had the news conference our pastor put a video out on Facebook saying we would be going back to church online only again. The numbers are just too high for him to risk someone getting sick.I'm glad because we didn't feel comfortable the one service we went to.It got up to 98 and humid today and are expecting to be in the low 100's next 3 days.Do you feel comfortable going to Golds?I wouldn't feel comfortable going to any gym and the only one we have is AF.
Herman Cain was at the first Trump rally and now he had Covid.
Linda We keep breaking records too and the bars are suing Abbott and the state.
Liz Good to hear from you.My legs aren't that far off and before I left yesterday they measured the same length so she thinks even 1/4" will help.I walk so lopsided sometimes I feel like I'm falling to the right.
Chele I have had scoliosis for years but I guess the knee replacement brought it out more. They can't do anything about my upper back but she will continue to work on the lower back issue.

Chele, no meditating while driving, lol! I've been streaming Sirius for the most part, so wasn't thinking of driving. But for those that like cool jazz, that would put me to sleep too! Ugh, I will need to get gas soon and I've been trying to decide where to go. I usually go to a small station that isn't that crowded, but it's right across from the university. Maybe that's not an issue yet since there aren't any students on campus. We've had some talks on how we could do some kind of road trips, but I don't think it will be this year. We have the Disney reopening looming here.

Just read an article on frozen vs fresh and peasâunless used immediatelyâ go starchy right away after picking. Flash frozen do not.
