Welcome to the CLUTTERBUSTERS thread. We are a daily thread, Monday thru Friday, and we have a combined weekend edition Saturday and Sunday. We welcome new members and are a friendly, helpful and supportive group.
Our purpose is for support and sharing of tips and strategies in dealing with weight and clutter issues in our lives. Many feel that the two are often tied together. So, we will lend a caring ear, and hopefully give and learn tips to help all of us.
We want to remove at least 5 items or spend at least 15 minutes clutter busting today!
Remember, it didn't pile up in one day so it isn't going away in a day either. One organizer says: you don't have to stop everything to get organized, you just have to start somewhere.

Good morning,
I live about 6 houses from the end of my street. On the street behind me, at the end of the street, someone spent a ton of $$ on fireworks. They were not the cheap whistly ones, not the ones that just boom, they were like the awesome professional ones. They started setting them off around 9 and ended about 10:30. I wasn’t paying attention at first, people have been shooting off fireworks every night for the last month. I was getting something out of my fridge, looked out the window and saw them. Then I went outside and watched for probably an hour from my drive. They were spectacular. I’m hoping they have more tonight.
Puttering around today, then heading to DBs later. Always good to see them. Today is the cooler of the weekend, high 80s. Tomorrow expecting 90, Monday might hit 93. We will be in the 90s all week, not characteristic for Buffalo. I don’t see rain in the forecast until next Saturday. I bought a couple boxes of Outshine sugar free bars, kinda like popsicles, that I will be enjoying during the heat wave. I’m thinking lots of salad and sandwiches for dinner next week.
Have a great 4th!

Good afternoon all. Happy 4th of July to one and all. Just realized I never made it here yesterday. We had Mara and then Harper & Sawyer joined us. The two littler girls were outside enjoying the water table and the sprinkler, until Mara started breaking out in a heat rash on her back. It turned out Harper was signed up for an online class (Shakespeare) (she’s 9-1/2 going on 20 something), so she was mostly inside on that the whole time. We let the little girls use a couple tablets for a while. Then once bigger girls got picked up Mara took a nap. She actually went down before they left. When she’s really tired, she’ll head off to bed on her own.
We signed up for Disney plus right before we took Mara to drop off at her house. We wanted to watch Hamilton last night. It was excellent. This morning Stan has started watching the original Star Wars movies. But we were busy with him trying to figure out how to use our FireStick because our “smart” tv is an older generation of them, and Disney Plus doesn’t do well before 2016 models. It worked and we enjoyed it.
Dottie, I used the cloth bags for a few years (had a ton of them), but I donated them to the food shelf and when possible, I get paper bags. I then donate them to the food shelf, along with egg cartons. And the plastic bags can either be donated to the food shelf, or used as Joy does in wastebaskets. And we still do have the diaper thing going on, so we use at least 1 a day in the diaper wastebasket.
Joy, great on the fireworks. We may have to watch them on tv tonight. Some of the local cities are having them, but not many!!! We have gone down to the big lake south of us the past few years on our friends’ pontoon boat to watch fireworks, but won’t be doing that this year.
Dottie, since DIL is in the medical field, she might be considered “essential” and get a spot in a nursery school. Once August gets here we might start pushing them in that direction. Then we’d take her on occasional weekends and just once in a while during the week when they had dr, therapy, whatever appts.
It is really hot here again and very muggy. Stan got the “easy up” down and put away and the other chairs and the water table put away. We will probably have Mara next weekend again and if it’s still hot she will love being outside again. She calls our backyard “the playground”!! She gets dressed in the morning and she wants to go to the playground. DS Carol said that’s always what her grands called her backyard too. Fenced in and safe.
ok, Stan wants to run to Target. So we will head out there as soon as I brush my hair. Washed it this am so need to brush it now that it’s dry. I just let it dry and curl.
will check in tonight and see if Dottie has logged in. Have a great 4th all.

Joy, I’ve watched it a half dozen times since I first saw it! It is wonderful! Thank you for thinking of me to mention it! I love that they included the Singing Sargents in it.
Do you like cello music at all? Check out Hauser and also 2 Cellos. My favorite Hauser song is Hallelujah. 2 Cellos is Hauser and another cellist. They are great together. Our older DD/DSIL/Kira came and stayed here a few years ago and went to see them in Minneapolis. They said it was a fantastic concert.

Ruth - I honestly never paid much attention to cello music, until now. Thank you for introducing me to Hauser and 2Cellos. I’ve been listening to their music for 2 hours now ... A River Flows in You is one of my favorite piano pieces and I enjoyed Hauser’s version. And 2Cellos With or Without You from Arena Pula was incredible. Something new for me to listen to. Good looking too!
I went to church with DB and DSIL yesterday after the cookout. It was so nice to be back in the church. Every other row was roped off for distancing. Because it was the 4th there weren’t that many people. My old pastor celebrated the Mass, afterwards we talked a bit. It’s always nice to see him. Most of the people that attended were in the 65+ age group, all wearing masks of course. Listened to their conversations before Mass, they were all so happy to be with old friends. It was great.
Noisy night, they were shooting off fireworks past midnight. I felt bad for the dogs and cats that were probably so frightened. I do hope that after this weekend the fireworks are done.
Enjoy your day

Good afternoon. We are waiting for a storm here in MN this afternoon. It got really really dark and there was not a leaf moving; now the wind is coming up. It’s over 90 and muggy!! Hope we don’t get anything severe! We need to run to the store to pick up a few things for DH to use in his Ninja Foodie for a chicken dinner.
Joy, I’m so glad you are enjoying the cello music. I was introduced to it when DGD Kira started playing many many years ago. And now DGD Harper also plays cello. And I didn’t realize that the cello concert they had gone to many years ago was the 2 Cellos group that includes Hauser. I happened on Hauser by accident and fell in love with his music, especially Hallelujah. And yes, he is “easy on the eyes”. Both cellists are!! 🤣🤣.
Sounds like you had a good experience at church with your DB/DSIL. So nice to connect with old friends and others you’ve known for a long time.
Dottie must have gone to the lake for the holiday weekend. Hope they had good weather and a good time.
We had fireworks solid last night from about 8 pm until about midnight; then we heard them again about 1:30. Just ridiculous. And we have a gal in the neighborhood who has asked, on one of the local FB sites, for people to be considerate with the fireworks because she has a severe case of PTSD. It’s not war related (I think it’s gun related tho), but she has sort of been ridiculed for asking. Disgusting!!! Someone told her to go back “in town” where the noise is guns and not fireworks. I could not believe someone would say that to her on a public forum. This small town is pretty redneck so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. It is so disappointing tho.
It looks to be lightening up outside so maybe we can go to the grocery store pretty soon. Have a wonderful Sunday all. I can’t believe that July 4th is now over and summer is half over! This winter under quarantine maybe a really long one! Longer than usual. More later!

Do you have a hard time decluttering? These 15 decluttering rules can help you decide what stays and what goes.
Are you dealing with a lot of clutter? These 15 rules can help you make decisions about what to keep and what to declutter. Clutter makes me crazy and my family (and I - gulp) create a whole lot of it. These rules help me rein things in and regain peace again.
Rule #1 You get to decide what goes and what stays. If you love it, that may be reason enough to keep something. Rule #2 Duplicates are (usually) unnecessary.
Rule #3 If you haven’t used it in 6 months, it can probably go (but see rule #1). Make exceptions for seasonal items.
Rule #4 If it costs more to store than the value it brings to you, you should let it go.
Rule #5 Don’t allow other people’s ideas of what is important to dictate what you keep or declutter (but keep your loved one’s opinions in mind).
Rule #6 If someone else thinks something is particularly special, maybe they should store it instead of you.
Are you dealing with a lot of clutter? These 15 rules can help you make decisions about what to keep and what to declutter. I am currently decluttering piles of homeschool materials.
Rule #7 You can choose to sell something but it’s also OK to give it away if that’s easier. Not everything should be sold.
Rule #8 Most things can be replaced if necessary.
Rule #9 Don’t declutter things belonging to others without permission (exceptions for kids who refuse to take care of their possessions).
Rule #10 Mementos and toys are even more treasured when there are fewer of them.
Mementos and toys are even more treasured when there are fewer of them. CLICK TO TWEET Rule #11 You are not defined by the things you keep. (For example, owning a lot of books doesn’t make you smarter, although reading them might.)
Rule #12 Kids produce a lot of clutter. That’s OK and to be expected. Help them learn to manage it instead of ignoring it.
Rule #13 Keeping something “for someday” may be holding you back from living your life right now.
Are you dealing with a lot of clutter? These 15 rules can help you make decisions about what to keep and what to declutter. Decluttering toys can be particularly painful.
Rule #14 Not everyone has the same tolerance for clutter. It’s OK if you desire more or less of it than someone else. Clutter can even be quite overwhelming for some people.
Rule #15 Organized clutter is usually still clutter.
