Many happy returns, Linda.
I hope Micki and, subsequently, you and Bob were not tortured too long last night with the fireworks.
Family is complicated. My DB and I donβt communicate often and I am sure DSIL tells him to call, too. I would do anything for him, though.

Happy Birthday Linda! Hope you have a great day. The rain cleared up here and fireworks were going off until at least 1am. Hope Micki wasn't too upset. I did see a pretty display from the street behind the pond, so far enough away to not worry about them landing on my roof and they weren't terribly loud from there. Yes, family is complicated. My cousins in NSB are sometimes on the outs with each other (2 brothers) and I don't think they stay in touch with our aunt there as much as she would like.

Happy Birthday, Linda! I hope the noise died down early enough to get Micki calmed down for bed. I think DB at least remembers my birthday, but it may be DSIL reminding him. We tend to text or message and rarely talk. We are 7 years different in age and never did have a lot of common interests. I keep up with the nieces and nephews mostly through FB, so we are in touch--sort of. We'd have more contact if we lived closer, since it's an 8+ hour drive in two different directions to see any of them. DM said many times that she wished all of us were closer and toward the end of her life we heard frequently how the family was "falling apart".
Kathy, the article was very interesting. I didn't realize that FSU doesn't have a mascot, but that makes sense after reading the article. Don't the fans tend to do the Tomahawk Chop during the playing of War Chant? I thought it was all part of the same thing. I've heard the name Doak Campbell but nothing about him. I would recommend gloves to pump gas. Some stations around here are even providing disposable gloves. Sorry the rain cleared and you had to endure the fireworks.
Fireworks started here about sunset and continued until about midnight. I told Dale we were about the only ones on the lake who didn't set of any fireworks. There were times I could see 6 or 8 different displays at the same time. The neighbors' displays were more noise than stars and Arya was pacing the entire time. It's odd that she wants to be right next to me but when she's scared, she doesn't want to be with either one of us. I wish she would let me hold her, but that's not what she seems to be comfortable with. Despite getting to bed late, she had us up at the normal time. A little more sleep would have been nice.

Karen, a little more sleep would've been nice here too! Sorry that the fireworks affected Arya and hope she's okay today. To be honest, I didn't know much about Doak Campbell either. He served as FSU's president in the 40s and 50s and was strongly against integration and allowing any black students to be admitted. A former player started a petition to change the name to Bobby Bowden stadium and it's been getting attention in the papers here.
When I was in school, the band played the War Chant or some version of it, but there was no tomahawk chop. I went to a game in the early 80s and it had caught on by then. It's murky as to whether the band started it or if it started with fans and the band picked up on it.

Thanks, everybody!
I turned on Macy's fireworks. He lay in the bottom of the bed and watched it for a few minutes, decided that was the noise and went to sleep!

Thanks again ....heat wave still in the East?
112 here. Ick. Saw 114 for next Saturday and hoping not! Cleaned The Whole kitchen, sorted and tossed out a pile of recipes to try (binder actually), did some laundry. Neither of us feeling tummy well today...so soup and freezer hard rolls for supper.
early night...but yeah, people probably have leftover explosives! At least tv worked on Micki after a while last night. That much growl, bark and arrrroooooo is not fun.
Virus continues to surge and people had a lot of socializing for the 4th.Here if we catch it, we either get lucky or die because some hospitals Have five categories of people ahead of old folks...sadly the ones spiking this epidemic will get preferential treatment and go back to parties.

Tummy is better.
Would you believe my brother called for my birthday and talked a long time? They missed me today with the grandkids, knew from my niece we were nit visiting anyone. Wanted to know how we are doing. The clinic has had patients again three weeks, he has to do virus testing one day a week Next week and spends part of the day scanning people to decide if they can come in. Protection garb and shields and masks are hot . Not a person I should be next to.
