Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!!!!!
Good morning. The heat continues.
Gareth, yes, even now, at 68 degrees, I would not walk outdoors, without expecting to be sweating a lot by the time I get home. No thanks. I am seeing for our next 10 days either 90's or 89 predicted. Didn't we hear, back in late winter that our summer was supposed to be hot? Oh well, at least we do not have to shovel this, lol!!! DH has a total of 16 treatments to go through.
Robin, thank you. He seems to be doing very well after his first treatment. We will see how he does, once he gets more into it. About the different diet plans, it sounded, from the little bit I read on the ad for Noom, it is very much like WW. Also, one person posted that for 4 months it costs aprox. $150! No thanks. I agree with people that say it is all about portion control. There are things that I could eat way too much of, so those are things I try to stay away from. I have been worrying about that, if I would want to return any of the clothes I bought, and returning them. If they do not fit me, (too small) well I guess I better look at that as a sign to buckle down and get that amount of weight off. If it is way too small, I will see if DD2 wants it.
Anngie, DH has 2 sessions per week scheduled, for all of July and August. So far, so good. About the masks, I truly would love it to be mandatory, but I remember the reaction I had, walking through one of our big grocery stores, about a month ago, and could not breath, so I had to take it off. What happens then, if it is mandatory? Believe me, that day, walking around the store, I felt so guilty! I remember, before I had chemo, and actually had eye brows, most of the time, doing my errands, I would not wear any makeup. I was never good at doing the foundations, blush, things like that, and don't even mention lip stick! OMG!!!! The saying: you can't put lip stick on a pig is truly meant for me, HAHAHAHA!!!!
Weird day yesterday, as I was making the desserts, and standing at the counter slicing up strawberries and just started sweating buckets. The air was on, I had not done any kind of exercise, so that was weird. Then all of a sudden I got sick. Was able to finish my chores, then DH came home from therapy, so he helped with the kitchen cleanup. I sat and drank a ton of water, but the rest of the day was shot for me, as to doing anything like taking a walk. I ate some saltine crackers, then felt a bit better, but very weak. We ran to the cemetery, and found out that a deer was eating the tops off the flower plant we had there between the 2 headstones, so we brought it home. I was wiped out by 4 pm, and was able to stay up till 5 pm then went to bed. Did not sleep, but read on my kindle, and just rested. By late evening I felt better. My head feels a bit woozy, but otherwise I am ok.
I can see I won't be seeing the fireworks that DSIL has for tonight. I feel bad for DH as I know he wants to see them, but it is what it is. What with the heat, and not feeling the best, I know I will want to come home early. He can go stand out on our balcony and I am sure he will see some sort of fireworks.
Hope you all have a Happy Fourth of July, enjoy it, but stay safe.

Happy 4th everyone! A hot, humid day again for us. 90's hot and humid is the forecast for the next ten days. I'll still take this over winter any day. Not bad walking early again this morning though we were both sweating by time we got back. We went a little different route so walked a little farther than usual. With the holiday there wasn't a virtual workshop this morning. Seemed strange not even having that to work since I've been so used to always working early Saturday mornings.
Karen, glad you're feeling better. If it happens again you should have it checked out. Could you take separate vehicles so DH could stay and you could leave when you needed to? I find the cloth masks ill fitting and hard to breathe in. The disposable masks work much better for me. Have you tried them? Even though they're disposable I find I can hand wash them a few times and they stay just like new.

It is not going to be quite that hot here, 84, but it is pretty humid. Gareth, I agree with you, I prefer the plain paper masks. Nothing is great to breathe in if you have it on for too long. However, it is a necessity, especially if you are at risk. Although they say that it protects other people, it also does protect the person wearing it to a degree.
Karen, did you take your temperature? I hope you aren't really sick. Be careful when you go out, especially with it being so hot and humid.
My excitement of the day is that I figured out that what I had bought that made my wood floors so shiny was something called Quick Shine, but I needed the special mop to be really clean, and to use a lot of it. I saw that Home Depot had it in a 1/2 gallon size, so DH went there this morning and got more of it.
Does anyone have Disney Plus so they can stream Hamilton? People are saying that you can get Disney Plus for 1 month, for $6.99, and then cancel it. If you have not seen the show, it is great to see. It was filmed on Broadway back in 2016, before the original cast left. We saw it once in the beginning, and I remembered another Broadway actor playing one role. He was the one who was the lead in the original Book of Mormon. I googled and found that he stepped into the role for 5 weeks, and it was when we saw it, so I am not totally crazy.

Gareth, I love all the cloth masks I have, because of course we want to look nice wearing them, and in the beginning, when they decided we should be wearing masks, you could not find the disposable ones. I see the disposable masks for sale now just about anywhere. You may be right, about the difference in breathing between the two kinds, when I go to WM tomorrow, I look for them. I am watching both of us like a hawk, in case it is the virus, with taking temps every day, as I do not want to take the virus to my family. Sometimes I suspect our thermometer is not working, but when we take our temps, then DH goes to the clinic, his temp is the same. I will pick up another one tomorrow, if WM has them. How has it been for you, with the nightly fireworks? We have been hearing a few booms now and then, in the evening, but nothing too bad, and when I hear them, I think of you. I sure am glad we don't have pets anymore, since I know they would be scared.
Robin, yes, I am taking my temp, and DH also. Read what I wrote to Gareth about that. What are you and your DH doing to celebrate today/tonight? Anything? Normally we would not be going anywhere today, but with DGS birthday falling on Monday, they are having his party today. I keep waiting for the day to hear from DD that DGS just wants to do something with his friends. Of course that is out this year, altho DD mentioned that he will have his best friend at the party. Not worried about that, as I am sure I will not be close to that kid at all. I am debating taking one of my masks, as it is red, and will match the clothes I am going to wear. I would just have to pull it down when I want to take a drink of wine. I have been seeing on Hulu, the ads for Hamilton. I am not interested in watching it, as I have heard there is music in it that I don't care for, plus I am not a fan of musicals. I had just finished, about 2 weeks ago the book I Eliza Hamilton, and just loved it, so I wish I felt differently.
I see one of the Nascar racers is positive for the virus. This driver is the most fit and healthy of all the cup drivers, so we were very surprised to hear this. Supposedly he self diagnosed, but now he can not race till he gets 2 negatives back. We are wondering if Nascar had to test every driver and all the track employees, because of Jimmie Johnson coming up positive.
The dryer just shut off, so time to get my butt in gear.

Good morning. As with most of the rest of the country, the heat continues here too. 91 expected.
Anngie, nice to see you stop in yesterday! I was wishing yesterday that we were doing what you were doing! What a nice way to spend the holiday.
It was way too hot yesterday for the birthday party. My sister and I hung out in the kitchen most of the time, but there are times we just had to be outside. DH was not happy that I dragged him home before the fireworks started, but I had had enough. Some neighbors came over, and with them they dragged 2 big garbage containers on wheels, full of fireworks. Our DSIL had a ton of them also. We were home by 8pm and DD let us know when the fireworks were all done, and lol, she had to make sure to tell us no police came. I was worried too, as the night before a house in a suburb close to GB (the suburb Marcia lives in), caught fire from someone else lighting fireworks, so as I said I was worried, about that happening, and DSIL being responsible, but all was quiet in regards to that. As usual the strawberry angel dessert (2 pans) were happily eaten. DGS had a few of his buddies there and they were so polite and well behaved, good to see. Lots of fireworks to watch out our bedroom windows, as we are up pretty high. That moon!!!! It was the star of the show!!!! Just beautiful!
I have all of my plants watered, DH is going to sleep in, so I think I will leave in an hour or so for WM. I will have to check to see when they open, as I do not know if they still close up every night for cleaning.
Nothing going on here today. Have a nice day everyone, stay cool!!

Same here too Karen on the heat. Foggy morning the weatherman says the haze is from all the fireworks from last night. This was the worst year ever for fireworks. It started well before dark and went on well past 11:00 I've never seen fireworks coming from so many different directions around the neighborhood. I know I sound bah humbug. I love professionally done fireworks not the amateurs. At least the professionals don't go on forever and ever....
Letting DH sleep in but I really want to get out walking before it gets much later. I'll give him just a few more minutes.

Karen, not surprised that the heat and humidity was too much for you. For us, it is usually my DH who wants to leave before I do. Nice that their party worked out well. No comment on the fireworks. I
hate when so many people do it in my neighborhood.
Gareth, ours went on for even longer. They started with certain things before it even got dark, and went on until at least midnight. I did not see a haze, but so much noise, it sounded like a was zone.
It is a pleasant, not too hot day today so far. I have a few people in the neighborhood I only know from dog walking, and met one this morning. We were talking about how it has been so easy to put on weight during this whole thing. I told her what I decided to try now, and I'll see how it works. Last night when we ordered in I had a salad, escarole sauteed in garlic and oil, and grilled chicken cutlets. Those 2 things are side dishes, but I turn it into an entree. They also have great little rolls made out of pizza dough, and foccaccia, but I had none of it. I had 1 glass of wine, smaller glass than I normally have. Melon for dinner.
I'll do more cleaning and laundry today, some food shopping, and put out the garbage, not sure how so much of that accumulated.

We had a nice visit with DD, DSIL and DGS. DGS was fun, but he is definitely 2. He is very stubborn as was his mom at that age. It was very hot. We walked to a park yesterday morning and it didn't take long before we were sweating. We all had on sunscreen and hats and had water with us. DGS is very fair and his face gets red. I was concerned he was getting sunburned, but once we got back to the house and cooled off, his face was back to normal. The heat gave me a headache, but a couple of Exedrin Migraine helped. DGS plays well by himself, but sometimes wanted us to color with him or read. It was fun, but tiring.
We watched Hamilton and really liked it. DD and DSIL saw it on Broadway a few years ago and then had seen the touring company in Dallas last year. It was a different kind of musical from what we were used to. You know, people talking and then bursting out in song. There wasn't really any dialog, just singing. DH and I both have read the book it is based on. I can't imagine someone reading it and thinking, "I'm going to take this story and make a musical about Alexander Hamilton." I guess I'm not that creative.
Our town always has band concerts on Thursday nights during the summer. This year they combined the concert and the 4th of July so we had fireworks Thursday night. A little odd. Last night after we got home people were setting them off. Our cats were disturbed. One of them hid under the bed.
Karen, hope you are feeling better.
I have seen commercials for Noom, but I don't really know anything about it. Most people know the answer is to eat less, eat healthy and move more. Of course, knowing it and doing it are two different things which is why there is WW and other plans.
DH and DSIL were fixing something in their house so they went to Lowes. They said almost everyone had on masks. I found cloth masks at Walmart, but haven't had opportunity to use them yet. The masks really bother me. I don't see how people wear them several hours daily.
