Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Yes...still hot. And our weather guy just showed the outlook through the 16th, and that would be still HOT!
Gareth, I have to agree with you, on your post on FB, I would still choose this over winter. You can go out into the heat if you want, but there is just so much you can not do, if the temps are bitter cold or we are getting snow/blizzards. The fireworks around here on Saturday night were just fine, it seemed they all were agreed on being finished by 10:30. After that it was all quiet. I heard a few last night, but it was early, like around 9:30. Did you get any walking done?
Robin, lol, I hate to be that old lady, that won't join the party outside because it is too hot, so when DGS was doing his presents, I was out there, right by him. I hate that kind of heat that you just stand there and the sweat pours off you. To me that is not having fun. I did not even wear my wig that day, as I knew I would pay for it if I did. One of the reasons we left early (besides the heat) was I did not want to be there when DSIL started lighting all those fireworks. I was worried either the police would come or he would shoot one off wrong and start a fire. Speaking of garbage, I am always amazed how 2 people (DH and I) can collect so much! And the recycle stuff, we usually have 2 brown grocery bags full! Go figure!
Pinky, hello!! Nice to see you!!! I think the whole country is sweating!!!! Did you have a good time on the 4th? Did you see your grand kids?
Carol, oh my, I remember my DGS was a 2 yr old!!!! He was a bundle of energy, that's for sure!!! But I loved rocking him to sleep, at nap time. That is what most diets are, portion control. But they all have to be about trying to council you. I guess just telling us not to eat too much is not enough.
When I went to WM early yesterday morning, I had a cloth mask on. By the time I got out to my car, and took it off, my whole area around the mouth, that had been covered was soaked! Yeck! I would hate to have to wear them longer than I did. I did buy a box of disposable masks. The price tho!!!! For 25 masks, it cost $17!!!
We have been having issues with Hulu, just a few, but I decided to look into Spectrum Live, and called and talked to some one about it. I was on the phone with him for about 45 minutes, and he found me all the channels I wanted, so combined with their internet, he got me a super deal, to last the next 2 years. So today I am cancelling Hulu. So far we have been very happy with Spectrum.
Tomorrow I am picking up DD2, and we are going to one of the big flower and plant store/warehouse, so she can look around and get some ideas. Then we are going to lunch. She has off of work today and tomorrow, so she wanted to do something like this. (She misses her mommy) So we most likely will see if DD1 and my sister want to come too.
Not much else going on, I guess you could say we are into the dog days of summer...early.
Have a nice day everyone.

At first around here, it was hard to find the blue surgical masks, but they are all over now. The least expensive way to buy them is in boxes of 50, but we really don't go through that many. I keep one or 2 in the car, and put them on only when I go into a store. If you chip in with a few families, if you can get the box, that's the way to go. I think the last time I bought the pack of 10 it was $13.99.
Karen, I am sure that your lung issues also must affect how you feel in the heat. My DH just always is hot. He loves the AC down to 68 degrees. I think that the police turn the other way about people setting off fireworks on July 4th, I have never seen them report that they arrest anyone. However, they can be dangerous to both people who are too close to them, and anything else that might be hit by them.
Back to work today. As far as our garbage goes, we get it picked up 3 times a week, but I don't always put out garbage. Over the weekend I had 1 large back of recycling, 1 large back of regular garbage, a few bags of newspapers, we just get too many delivered, and assorted boxes from take-out, the food we had delivered, just various things, so I had to keep walking back and forth to put it all out. My knee was really hurting me yesterday, so I put a Tiger Balm patch on, and it really helped almost right away, I was amazed. I have to make a doctor's appointment and tell him this is helping, so maybe he will know what it is really from.
Carol, not sure if I have told you my trick for making a 2 year old less stubborn. It doesn't always work, but you give them 2 choices of what you want, and let them pick. Instead of telling him what to wear, you pick out 2 outfits and tell them to decide. If you want them to stop doing something, say, do you want to stop in 5 minutes or in 15 minutes. Same with what they want to have to eat. Do you want carrot sticks or grapes.

Just came in from walking. It's hot and steamy already. There's no way we could walk later when DH gets home so he'll walk downstairs. When I was younger I'd walk no matter how hot and humid it was but not anymore. Around suppertime last night we had a short lived downpour but it didn't cool off for long.
I'd just said to DH last night that I was surprised we hadn't heard any fireworks when they started. It was nothing like the night before though and thankfully didn’t last long.
Karen, did you see that Nick Cordero, the broadway star died yesterday after 95 days in the hospital of covid? So sad. I hadn't heard of him before but had been following the story and know you had too at one time.
Robin, I'd freeze with the A/C at 68Âş We have ours set at 78Âş which is comfy for me. DH usually has his hooded sweatshirt on since he's always cold.
I'm almost done with The Nanny. It's one of the better suspense books I've listened to in awhile.

Hello all. Well that was an anticlimactic weekend for us. Too hot to be out doing any yardwork and no social plans. If it hadn’t been for the pandemic we would have gone to the lakeshore but there was no way we were going to brave the beach. So I puttered a bit around the house. It was my weekend for stripping our bed, and I decided since it was hot enough to hang laundry outside I washed the blanket and the quilt. Nice to have all that nice clean bedding. Most of my chores were piddly little things, no big projects so nothing to feel a grand sense of accomplishment about. Fireworks here on the 4th were overwhelming. With no city fireworks I think everyone felt they needed to compensate. I went outside at one point and they were coming from every direction. My poor dog was terrified and now she is afraid to go outside on her own at all. I felt terrible for anyone with PTSD. It was so much worse than when everyone can go downtown and watch the city fireworks, then they come home and set off a few. Karen – I found this on Amazon: www.amazon.com/LYMASK-Adults-Disposable-Filter-Earloop/dp/B086GBDVW5/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=disposable+masks&qid=1594044236&sr=8-6Much cheaper than the masks you bought. We are using cloth masks for now but we only wear them when we go shopping. We have some disposable in the house if we need them. I took one of those when I went for my cut and color. Robin - I tried that 2-year-old trick with my kids. It didn't work. They caught on pretty quickly. Gareth - I found it hot and steamy on my walk this morning also. If this keeps up I may have to quit my walks until it cools off. I don't know what's for dinner tonight. They are predicting pop-up t-storms so I don't know whether to plan something on the grill or indoors. Weigh in Saturday down .3. I was down into another decade but now I've popped back up into the earlier one. The next Vince Flynn audio came in so I started that this morning. I had been listening to Lost Roses. It was ok but wasn't exciting. I'm still reading The Weight of Ink which I like but don't love. It gets tedious at times. A bit wordy.

That trick with DGS works some times, but other times not. Mostly, he is an easy baby, but he has his moments which I think is normal.
One of my migraine triggers is hot and humid weather which is not a good thing especially living in Texas. I try to drink a lot of water. One time not too long ago, we helped with a food distribution at church and I got a really bad headache from being outside. Cooling off and drinking water helps immediately.
We had some setting off fireworks last night, too. I guess they were trying to use them all up. One kid around here held one too close to his face while trying to light it and it blew up and he lost an eye.
I'm glad our governor decided to require masks. I don't like wearing them, but they obviously protect people. DH is happy, too, because the college where he works was going to require everyone wear them. They were afraid some students wouldn't wear them and weren't sure how to enforce the rule. Now that the governor mandated them, it should be easier to enforce the rule.
I hadn't heard about Nick Cordero. I had been following the story, too.
Since our city decided to do away with curb side pickup of recycling, we have to take it ourselves. I didn't go with DH when he went, but he said it wasn't too bad. Of course, he had to separate everything. When we had pickup, we just put everything in the bin.

Karen, I’m curious - what didn’t you like about Hulu? Although I haven’t done it yet, I was going to check it out. We have had Spectrum for a number of years. I hate to admit it, but sometimes I’m that old lady that sit out in the sun and humidity! I’m OK under an umbrella or canopy - in fact I could sit like that for hours, but not in the sun. Have fun tomorrow - a nice “girls day out”!
Robin, way back when I called our local county office for the aging and they would send any number of masks. They fit great but made out of a double layer of cotton. And of course, they’re washable. I’m surprised you have garbage pickup three times a week! Ours is once a week as well as recyclables. How’s little Maddie?
Gareth, we're in for some hot weather here. Later in the week it could get to 95. When it gets that hot it’s always humid too.
Marsha, I’ll bet someday fireworks will be illegal everywhere, although I don’t see how any tickets or fines could ever be issued! A county near here this year made even sparklers illegal. Hard to enforce I’m sure.
Carol, will your see DGS next weekend too? We FaceTime every Sunday. Maybe not ideal but it’s something!
Hi Pinky! How have you been feeling?
