Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Same thing for the heat, at least we had storms for a bit last night. Made it interesting. May have the same today, but for sure the 90's again.
Robin, yes, when you have your major organs not running properly, it affects you. But I do not like to fall back on that, I prefer to think of myself as normal, but then when that happens, it shows me that I am not normal. DH and I prefer our bedrooms to be a tad cooler, but not in the living room 70 seems to work fine. Yes, I have never seen a policeman come up to a fireworks party and cite anyone. Your tiger balm works like the cream that has gone from prescription, to over the counter, with my leg hurting (groin) I put some on and wow, took that pain right away. It is Voltaren. We had a bunch of it from my daughter, when it was prescription, as it did not help her, but wow, it sure helped us! Then, while at WM the other day, I saw that it is over the counter now, and bought one. It helps so much.
Gareth, I remember those days, when we were younger and thought nothing of walking in this heat and humidity. Just as when you see joggers out there jogging in this heat. DH ran to our elderly friends house yesterday morning, and found her putzing around their big garage, which was an oven. He made her go in the house, in the a/c, and get something to drink. He said he could see her sweating heavily. She thinks she has to get her DH tools cleaned, and whatever, even in the heat. I truly believe she is somewhat senile. She is going to her other daughters house for this weekend, and I had to gently remind DH that he can't take her, (he is always right there, thinking he can help out with whatever needs to be done there), as he has appointments Thursday and Friday. I told him to make sure to let her know that you can not help with that. What they do is, take the DF to a half way point, down state, and meet up with her DD. Since DD lives on the western side of the state, that is how they work that out. Oh geez, I am so sorry I went on and on about this!!! YES! I saw, I have been still following his wife's up to dates about him, some was so sad, some was hopeful, but all the time, I really believed he would not make it. With that latest of needing a double lung transplant, that, to me was the writing on the wall. Did you see the little film clip of when he was on the Today show, with part of the cast of the play he was in, my goodness, he had a great singing voice. So sad. Now they have a go fund me page going for her, (this is what I thought of during his trying to get better, that their medical bills must be astronomical!) to raise money for all of her bills. I wish I had that kind of money, to make a difference for her.
Marsha, we kind of layed low over the weekend, except for the birthday party. I am glad we did not stay for the fireworks, because I know I would have been watching for the police to pull up, instead of enjoying the show. I guess what happened was, as it got dark, they had just about all their neighbors there, neighbors that live in that whole are surrounding their house. DD and her DH are talking about moving next year, but I wish they could stay there, as they have it made, neighbor wise! Thank you for the link, I will look into it. I was shocked that WM was charging so much for those!
Carol, that must be miserable, with all the hot weather you get, to have to worry about getting those migraine headaches, so much! None of us like wearing those darned masks, but it clearly is needed, out in public. I feel weird going out without one. I think a lot of people were following about the actor and his being so affected by the virus. I hope they raise enough through go fund me to have the wife and baby set up good for a long time. The people in charge of collecting all of the recycling changed it all up so much, when we used to go to the dump to get rid of our garbage and recycling stuff, we had to have it all separated but they changed it and we did not have to separate it all. Weird.
Anngie, there were a few things we could not get used to with Hulu. Their way of going to a commercial: watching the show, and all of a sudden, right when someone was talking, they cut them off and went to a commercial. Then go back to the show, and not right where they left off. Plus, their program guide did not have numbers. With the guide being on the small side, and no numbers, it was a bit waste of time trying to find the show you wanted to watch. At the time we got Spectrum for our internet, the were just rolling out the TV part of their company and did not have live tv, such as our local channels, so we went to Hulo, because of that. That has changed now, as Spectrum has the local channels. There are a bunch of different ways to go with Spectrum, with us wanting a more traditional package. It will cost aprox $15 more per month than staying with Hulu. So now our guide has numbered channels. We ran to Best Buy for a universal remote to use with it, since they have numbered channels, (our smart remotes do not have numbers). This is how DH prefers to watch TV. I hope I explained good enough, the reason why we switched.
Pinky, how you doing? How is therapy? Between me, (last year) and DH, this year, we sure are keeping those therapist working! DH still has to call his Urologist to see if they got the results back from the tissue they sent to Mayo!
We got a call from DD that they were going to the Drift Inn to celebrate DGS actual birthday, last night so we met them there. They have the best burgers in town. Lol, that is exactly what we were going to have for dinner, so as I had just made the patties, we will have that for dinner tonight.
DD wants to go to lunch after we go through the flower place today. I told her to find a place that does not have heavy food, so I hope she can do that! All I want is a salad, with maybe a cup of soup.
Time to go, need to get a load of wash done before I leave, have a great day!

Hello everyone. As Karen said hot again this morning. DH got up at 6am to take his walk before it got hot. I thought that means we will fight over the dog. We ended up walking together until the point he turned back and I kept going. I kept the dog haha. I can't walk without her. (dh was back in bad sleeping by the time I got home).
Dinner last night I made Cuban black beans and rice. That's it for indoor meals, tonight I'll grill salmon and maybe burgers on Wednesday, then Thursday will be leftovers. DH is already talking about going grocery shopping. He at almost all the peaches and nectarines he bought last week and they are still on sale 77cents so he wants to go get some before they go up in price. I am not ready for him to shop yet. Oh by the way, we are no longer buying milk when it is just us at home. I only use it in my coffee and occasionally if I am out of yogurt I have cereal for breakfast. DH drinks it with pizza but that is it. I use nonfat dry milk to make yogurt so I always have that in the house and I've discovered that I can put that in my coffee and it tastes fine, certainly better than milk that is going bad! so no more milk to throw out every week.

Busy morming. I've been on the go since I got up except for the short time I sat and had breakfast. Now I'm resting awhile before my haircut. Today will be the 6th day in a row with above 90ΒΊ temps. From the forecast it sounds like mostly 90's now through the 20th of the month. I did my walking indoors today between loads of laundry. Tomorrow is supposed to be our hottest day so far so I'll try and get out early and walk.
Karen, like you I can't begin to imagine what his medical bills are. Hopefully they had good insurance. Yes, I did see that Today clip.
Marsha, we go through a gallon of milk a week. DH has to have it for his cookies and occasional cereal. The only milk I use is in cooking. DH loves pudding and tapioca so i usually make him some once a week. I was a big milk drinker when I was young. Now I can't imagine drinking it.

I went to our big Walmart this morning because I needed some things the neighborhood one was out of. We like their store brand yogurt and were completely out last Thursday. It was not crowded and most had on masks. I noticed one younger couple that didn't have them on. There are signs at the entrances about them, but I guess Walmart is handling it as more of a suggestion rather than a requirement.
We drink almond milk and you know, I can't remember why we switched to it. We don't drink much-just cereal and my coffee. Maybe it was because it doesn't expire so fast as cow's milk. Marsha, how do you make yogurt with dry milk.
Karen, I hope your elderly friend is okay. My FIL was one who thought things had to be done right then even if it didn't make sense. It's nice your DH checks on her.
I've read if you feel thirsty while you are out and get hot then you are already dehydrated so when I'm outside I try to have water with me. If I keep drinking it, I can usually avoid a headache.
It is not quite as hot today and cloudy.

Carol - I make yogurt in the instant pot. I use a bottle of Fairlife skim milk (it is ultra pasturized, that is key), 2 T starter yogurt (I use the Oui vanilla), and 2/3 c nonfat dry milk. The skim milk makes a thin yogurt and adding the nonfat dry milk adds protein and makes a thicker product so I don't have to strain it. Do you have an instant pot? Mine has a yogurt button. I combine everything, whisk it well, ( I put it in mason jars), and process it on the yogurt setting for 8 hours then chill for 6 hours. I like it so much better than store-bought yogurt.

Karen, I saw the pic on Facebook of your out for DGS's birthday. That was a nice thing to do, and it certainly didn't look crowded.
I did not know who Nick Cordero was before this all happened, but I am sure I saw him in Waitress. He was not one of the really well known Broadway actors, but I had not seen Bullets over Broadway, which he apparently had a bigger role in. What happened to him was a tragedy. Young man with a 1 year old child. Broadway had a fundraising arm that started during the AIDS epidemic, but their main fundraising is during the Thanksgiving to Christmas season at the theaters. We have a collection of signed posters from shows that have been sold at these events. Unfortunately, no Broadway shows this year, so the idea of them helping out his family isn't there.
Carol, I think that those greeters at Walmart should make people put masks on, but as we know, it's a political thing, and I can only imagine what side of politics Walmart is on.
Marsha, I know you love making that Instapot yogurt, but it is nothing I would ever do, even though I eat yogurt almost every day. I ordered an Instapot, then immediately sent it back. Just like I did with the air fryer. A good idea at the time, then I think that I don't need another appliance in the house.
Gareth, hope your haircut came out well. I really need to get one, but just have not made an appointment to go yet.
Very busy day again at the office, not that there is so much billable business, but lots of phone calls and follow ups. Everything takes time, but everyone else thinks it only takes 2 seconds. We had lunch at the office today, so DH has his leftovers, then I will decide what to have. Not sure if it will be that light for me, I had a lunch order of sashimi and it really wasn't very much.
