Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Another hot one, today is supposed to be especially hot in the western part of our state, which they put warnings out for. Us in the eastern part will look to get to 90-92, so no warnings for us.
Marsha, I never like taking walks with DH. Rare as those are, he either walks way too fast, or tries to go too far, and can barely make it back or quits way too soon. I guess I am lucky he has no urge to get into some sort of shape. When I read your DH is talking a grocery store run, it dawned on me that I need to make a list and get over to Woodman's. Thanks for the reminder, lol. I am at the point that I would love to have the A/C off for a day or two, just a little break, but that does not look like that will happen soon. At least the businesses up north should be making good money with this heat wave!
Gareth, wow, it seems your next hair cut came up fast, didn't it? When you and I went for our first one since the lockdown, I had my stylist cut mine very short. Lol! It is STILL very short!!! I do regret doing it that short now. As there are times now, that it is too hot to wear my wig, it is also too hard to style hair that is that short. I have not had milk in our frig in awhile. We just don't drink it. But I will have it on my list for today, as there are just certain things I can not make without it. I was in the mood to make banana bread yesterday, but couldn't since I did not have any milk. Carol's mention of almond milk reminded me how good it tastes, as we had it in the house when 2 of the grands came over, so I may get that.
Carol, when I went to WM Sunday morning, I was very happy that it was quiet. I could see by the time I was leaving that it was picking up. Most there also had masks on. Speaking about almond milk, 2 of our grand kids drank it when they were smaller, so I would keep in the house when they came, and I did like it. Then they got away from drinking milk, so we quit buying it. I have to go to the store today so I think I will pick it up, since I want to make banana bread, but need milk. Otherwise regular milk just sits and goes sour in our refrig. I am so happy that my DH does keep in touch with our elderly friend. He has really drilled into her about staying out of the heat. We have openings here in our complex; I wish we could get her to move here. Another way to see if you are dehydrated is when you go to the bathroom, if your urine is a bit darker yellow, you are. In a perfect world, your urine should be just about clear.
Robin, we have been to a few eateries lately and they are all very quiet. There is a very different mood in those places. But the food is still what we expect, very good. So sad that Broadway will be staying dark, all this year (?) How are all those people going to get by? I wish I could remember my nephew's title, as to what he does with the production of stage plays. I know he is still not working. From his pics on IG, it looks like his role now is Mr Mom. I received an offer from Hello Fresh in the snail mail yesterday, where I could get 7 meals free, to come back to them. I looked at the meals that are available for next week, and just not too happy with them, as most of them are chicken. I could eat chicken everyday, but DH would be yelling. So not sure yet, but would love to do something along those lines, as I am very tired of coming up with dinner ideas.
Hi to Anngie and Pinky!!!
Not much going on here, as I mentioned, I will make a grocery run today.
Have a nice day everyone, stay cool!

Hello all. It was very nice out when I went for my walk at 6am - I think it was 68, still a bit humid, and I took a light jacket. By the time I came to work at almost 9am it was hot and steamy. DH didn't get up an walk with me this morning. I woke him when I went to shower but he just grunted and went back to sleep. So I guess he's not getting in his walk today.
Karen - I find that the powdered milk is working well for me. I reconstituted a glass of it to use in the fettucine parmesan I made the other day. I took a sip to taste and it tasted just like skim milk and seemed to work fine in the recipe so I will stick with that plan for now, although I may have dh pick up milk when he shops because dd will be home this weekend. But maybe not because the likelihood of her having a bowl of cereal is pretty slim. DD buys almond milk because it lasts longer. DS uses it because apparently he is lactose intolerant. I use it in baking if I a making a desert I plan to serve with meat so I usually have it in the house but I don't like it as a substitute for milk otherwise. I don't like it in my coffee.
All week I've been avoiding the bbq grill because of tstorms in the forecast and it didn't storm. So last night I used the grill. When I went out to get my fish off the grill the flame had gone out. Not out of propane - I was able to relight it - so I don't know what happened. But at that point I started to feel drops so I brought the fish in and cooked it in the oven as the rain came down so hard. It lasted maybe 1/2 hour, and we got an inch of rain.
I think leftovers for dinner tonight. There should be enough stuff in the fridge. I'll check at lunch. And at lunch I have to remember to put some yogurt in the pot or I won't have it for breakfast tomorrow.

I didn't think I’d ever cool off after walking this morning. It was hot and humid already. At least there was a nice breeze that helped a little. I was hugging the shade whenever possible. Heat advisory out. This will be the hottest day of the week. 7th in a row now in the 90's. We did have a short downpour again last evening.
Finished a short story, The Roommate while I walked It's the prequel to a series. The only reason I listened to it was that it was free. I liked it well enough but not enough to get involved in a series which I don't care much for.
Karen, it had been five weeks since my last haircut. This time I told her a little shorter since I was getting really shaggy over the ears and neckline. I'm going back to getting it cut every four weeks. Like I told her though I'm getting paranoid with each haircut if it'll be the last one for awhile if the state gets shut down again. I hate to go too short since then it's impossible for me to do anything with it.
Hi to everyone! Gotta get ready for a zoom workshop.

There is not much going on here today. I'm trying to get stuff together to donate to a thrift store. It occurred to me that some places may not be taking donations at this time so I'm going to go to make sure it is open. I drove by the Salvation Army store last week and it didn't look like it was open.
Last weekend DD was complaining about her hair and needing a haircut. I told her it was probably ok to get one. I mean DH, her DH and I have all gotten haircuts with no problem. Part of the problem is that her stylist hasn't come back to work yet.
It seems like every night on the local news, there is a story about someone being asked to leave a business because they wouldn't wear a mask. They don't have a problem with No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service at restaurants but can't put on a mask to run into a grocery store to get a loaf of bread.
Yeah, it's hot here again. We are supposed to be up in the 90s with no rain until like September. A few weeks ago I decided to clean the carpets. It was just 3 bedrooms and the hall. It wasn't terribly hot outside and I put the AC down to maybe 68. I got so hot doing this that it took me a while to cool off and had to drink a lot of water to feel normal again.
I've been thinking of getting an Instant Pot. I already have a crock pot and a rice cooker and am trying to decide if I would use one.
Marsha, nice your DD is coming for the weekend. Robin, how is Maddie doing?

Carol - I enjoy my Instant Pot. The things I make reliably are hard boiled eggs and yogurt, I make yogurt about every 2 weeks and I think it tastes much better than the store bought stuff. I think it's great for spaghetti. You can cook the whole thing at once, sauce and noodles, and the noodles take on the flavor instead of just being a place for the sauce to sit. It makes perfect potatoes for potato salad or mashed potatoes. It does a nice flavorful brisket but it is a fall-apart brisket, not a slice brisket. I managed to slice it but it is difficult. Soups are very good. I make my split pea in there and it's better than on the stove. I have several other things that I cook in it also. But it is not small, so be sure you have a place to keep it. I keep it in its box on the floor of my pantry next to my crockpot.

Wow, it’s hot here. It might rain later this afternoon, but then that will be it for a few days. Humid too.
Karen, loved the family picture you had on FB! Your DGS is so cute! I wonder if buying a quart of milk would work for you? If you even used half, the rest could be frozen. I’ve frozen milk, it’s fine, just takes time to thaw. Do you think your DF would move there? That would be ideal, wouldn’t it?
Marsha, as I mentioned to Karen, maybe buying a quart and freezing what you don’t use right away would work? Is your yogurt the consistency of Greek yogurt or regular yogurt? Isn’t fish on the grill great!
Carol, I don’t know if you have the Goodwill Store near you but I’ve driven past a couple that actually looked like they were out of business. Who knows. My stuff goes to our church sales which they didn’t end up having in April and the one for October doesn’t look promising either. I would think it’s perfectly fine to get a haircut. As far as I can tell, these salons have it down to a science for safety.
Gareth, although I’ve gotten involved in series, I’d rather not! Too much of a good thing, I guess.
I think this has come up before, but has anyone ordered groceries at WM for pickup? I just might try it.

Anngie - the yogurt can be as thick as you want it by straining it. Mine is more the consistency of regular yogurt. I make it in mason jars and when I first open the mason jar it is the consistency of a thick sour cream, but by the next day it has thinned a bit and is a nice creamy consistency. If I wanted it thicker I could strain it before chilling. Or I might try more powdered milk.

Knowledge is power. Boss called me at lunch to say he forgot he wanted to stop at DQ and get some Dilly Bars for the plant workers because it's so hot outside and would I stop. so the thought crossed my mind that I could do with a small dish of ice cream. but before I left the house I checked the WW ap to see how many points that would be. I never found a small dish of ice cream but a small cone is 10 points on green and a kids cone is 7. I didn't get it.
But I do miss ice cream.

I had a busy day, but not a crazy busy day. Tomorrow will be crazy busy. We have a few meetings in the office, including a closing. We don't really do real estate, just for special clients.
Marsha, an Instapot is the other appliance I ordered, and sent it right back when it came, just like the air fryer. I always realize when I get them that I really don't need another appliance just to do things that other things I have do. With an Instapot I could probably get rid of my rice cooker (DH's purchase, which I rarely use) and put the Instapot where that is, but have not done it.
Anngie, I should have thought of freezing the milk that I bought so that DH could make a new ice cream recipe he had, which he never made, and I am sure the milk is sour.
Karen, we are hot and humid here, but not as hot as you, it was only in the 80's.
Carol, maybe you could do the same thing with the instapot that I would, and get rid of the rice cooker. I think you can make rice in the Instapot. I don't think I would get rid of my slow cooker, I have the All Clad and it's large. I don't use it a lot, but when I do, it's great. Here, we are pretty lucky, no one makes a big deal about wearing a mask. You go into a store, you put it on, take it off when you get back to your car. We don't use them for walking around the neighborhood, there are too few people. If I were walking on a sidewalk somewhere, I would.
Gareth, I definitely do not have my hair cut every 4 weeks! I always like to see my hair as it grows out. A changed style. Did you get that book free from bookbub or something? I often get a first in a series there, then have a major debate about buying more if I like them.
