Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Raining, rained all night, flood advisory till 9 am, then sun this afternoon.
Pinky, how are you doing? I assume everything is good with you and your family....but you know what they say about assuming.....How is therapy coming along? I can not wait till you are able to fill us in on what is happening in your neck of the woods! Was your area affected by that tornado in western MN the other day? I just saw a little bit about it on the news.
Marsha, oh boy, I am so sorry about what happened at work. When and where are you going for the test? I am not sure about Prevea still having the drive up testing...? I know Bellin has one right by the hospital, but I think you have to have an appointment and doctor order. Not sure how Aurora is handling it. I bet you are fine, but you can not take that chance. That employee you said that has it; you described my brother that passed away. Same kind of guy. Weird! Good luck!! You are right about a series, I had not thought of it that way.
Gareth, wow, those pictures on FB! I am glad you got your power back on pretty quick. Also glad you escaped any damage. I know from experience how that is. Your storm system came right up here, and parked itself over us all night. Still raining. I have a tendency to do the same thing, especially at WM, as all I want to do is get out of there as quick as possible. I also hate having to return things, we have a cord that the sales person at Best Buy recommend we buy, while we were there, for our surround sound, which, after coming home and DH looking it all over, we do not need, so that is waiting to go back. Good luck to your DH with his surgery. How will that work there? For everything here, I can not go with DH, except I am not sure how surgeries work, maybe they would allow me to come into the hospital for that. I am not allowed in to any of his clinic appointments. I learned my lesson buying produce for curb side pick up, it just does not work out well, but when I was doing it last year, it worked well for the rest of it.
Carol, wow, your crock pot is really old! I do have my mother's crock, so that might be around 30 years old. Those crocks seem to last forever, for the most part, don't they? The thing with our elderly DF, her mind is still somewhat sharp, so she is able to bluff her way through. She has a DD here in town, but those two get along like oil and water, then a DD in the western part of the state that she is very close to, then a DS in Colorado. That is why my DH makes it a point to take to her at least every other day. So sad about your MIL. Wow, your predicted temps sound horrible! That is the main reason my DS did not want to live down there year round, after having lived through that for a few years. I would not be able to go out at all in that heat.
Robin, HAHAHAHA!!!! That is a good one!!! No, I had not heard that one before!!! Did you play mah jongg last night? (I think I spelled that wrong, sorry!!) How did you do? You sure do eat some interesting food! Here in our house, it is very boring eating. Of course it is all how you are raised. We come from meat and potatoes families. Blue collar. The one thing that was different from other blue collar families in our area, my Dad would make the dinners, when he was home, and rested. As he worked in the paper mill, doing what they called southern swing shift, there was a week that he would work 2nd shift so he would not be home for dinner, but when he worked the day shift or was off between shifts he would make it all, as my mother worked at Prange's, the local dept. store, in the credit office. Oh my, sorry I went off subject!!
I did not bring in all my plants to protect them from all the rain we got over night, so some look drowned. I see the sky lightening up out our western windows, yay! Our streak of 90's is over, another yay!!
Any plans for anyone for this weekend? So far it looks like a quiet weekend for us. I am trying to stay home, as with being out and about last weekend and earlier in the week, I would like to isolate, just in case. This virus sure is raging all around the country!
Reading a nice, easy read right now; The Shortest Way Home, by Miriam Parker. I like how it has humorous undertones.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen - there was almost 3" of rain in our rain gauge this morning, and yesterday before the rain when I didn't empty it I noticed less than 1/2", maybe 1/4". So we got a lot overnight. I went to the Prevea in DePere for the test, They required an appointment and filled up pretty fast but they were really speedy. There were 2 cars in front of me and the test itself probably took 5 minutes. I had a 2:10 appointment and by 2:30 I was on my way. the guy that has it is actually my favorite fellow employee. A very nice guy, you can tell he was raised well by his parents, just a bit of a loner I think. He spent about 5 years taking care of his mother who had alzheimers. After she passed my Boss ran into him - they knew each other from having grown up in the same neighborhood - and when he found out Employee really wasn't doing anything we hired him here.
produce for curb side pickup...dd actually mentioned last night that now that she is going to the grocery store she is actually buying a lot of fresh produce. When she got her groceries delivered last year she never ordered anything fresh because when she did it was never any good. Come September when she doesn't have a car she'll have to go back to ordering food.
I got my crock pot for a shower gift and we've been married over 30 years. DH bought me another crock pot several years ago (I have no idea why he thought I needed it but it's bigger so I kept it for the rare time I need a bigger pot) and it is not made anywhere near as well.
I don't know why anyone is surprised that the virus is on the upswing. It's not like anyone has figured out how to prevent or treat it. When they made us all stay home it dropped because we didn't pass it to each other. Now that they let everyone out of the house it is being passed around. Nothing has changed. It is coming for all of us, it's just a race against science. (Does anyone else think our leadership must be aliens because somehow no matter how many people they expose themselves to, they don't seem to get sick???)
No plans this weekend (obviously) After all this rain there is a ton of weeding to do. I may make a few more masks since we will be wearing them at work now. More boring blue. I'll probably tie dye.

Well, I just finished the job I hate most - washing hardwoods! I first wash with Murphy’s Oil Soap and after it dries, I use Quick Shine floor finish. There’s got to be an easier way. My DDIL uses Bono brand wet mop on all their hardwoods and swears by it. When they had their hardwoods put in the installers (owners) said to only use Bono brand. Swiffer has the same for hardwoods. Do any of you use these products or do you do it my way - the hard way!?
Karen, quietly weekend for us too. How’s your leg? I’ve never tried almond milk but I could at least give it a try.
Gareth, good luck on DH’s surgery! Hopefully you can be somewhere in the vicinity when he has it! Those pictures of the storm were scary! Has your sister had any flooding?
Carol, I still love my crockpot! For the time being, I don’t plan on buying any other small appliance. We’ll see, though.
Robin, how did you do at mah jongg? Being in phase four, two malls are opening today and one tomorrow. We’ll see how that goes. I don’t have any plans at this time to go to a mall.
Marsha, sorry to hear about that employee - for your and for him. Here’s hoping you're negative - I’ll bet you are. I was given a rice maker many years ago and use it occasionally. I really like it but we don’t eat rice all that often. DH is not a fan but he will eat it. I got news for him, though, we’ll be getting Chinese takeout soon and it will be rice or soft noodles!
Hi Pinky, hope all is well with you and your family.
Tonight bad storms are coming through with heavy rain and will last into tomorrow morning. Can’t wait.

I don't go out in the heat much. Usually just from my car to the store or wherever. We need to do something to our backyard like a deck or patio so we could sit out in the evening. We used to have a patio, but we enclosed that area to increase our living area.
Marsha, I'm sorry I forgot to mention your test. I hope it is negative.
Karen, it is so good of your DH to check on your friend. MIL had someone who called or came by regularly. We really appreciated her doing that.
You are right. Why is anyone surprised the number of cases is going up? Our governor let everything open again much too soon and people just went back to how things were before with no masks or 6 feet apart. It's very frustrating. Someone told me Albertsons won't let you in without a mask. Walmart isn't doing that, but I noticed more people wore them yesterday.
It's supposed to be so hot this weekend I hope DH doesn't plan on mowing.
Hi, Pinky!

I kind of skimmed everything. I heard that there was a bad tornado in Minnesota, and it sounds like Iowa and Wisconsin were also hit bad. We are getting rain today.
Anngie, I just bought the bona mop. It cleans the floor, but does not shin. Honestly, Quick Shine is the best, but it is still a very big job. Was I complaining about that here this weekend? DH went to Home Depot to buy me the bigger bottle of Quick Shine. I have to do a small amount at a time, and then there are still spots that are missed. What kind of mop do you use to put that on with? Maybe you have a better idea.
Marsha, honestly, I think elsewhere the reason the virus is on the upswing is because they are not mandating masks. Even if not everyone always wears them everywhere in NY, the vast majority do, and we are seeing very few new cases. It is a very easy virus to pass from one person to another without that. Do we look silly sometimes, laugh at it, was it nuts that we have had to be so restricted, that we don't know if we are ever going to go back to our normal way of life? Of course. Is it the right thing to do? Of course.
We have been getting produce in the boxes DH is ordering from Imperfect Foods, and they have been great, although looks wise wouldn't pass muster in a food store probably. Yesterday we got a box that had 4 very small avocados. I have never even seen them that small in a store. But, I opened one, it was the perfect size for me, and great. The oranges and grapefruits I had were delicious. The mango I cut open last night was the best I ever had, but there was nothing wrong with that one.
Carol, just read down to yours. That's the way they should be doing it. Here all supermarkets, drug stores, really anywhere require masks to enter. There are even a few Spanish signs that say no mask, no entry.
Pinky, glad you stopped by to say hope.

It was quite a storm that moved through here yesterday. I don't remember it ever raining so hard and for so long. The rain was hitting the window in sheets so you couldn't even see out. The wind was just simply fierce too. Lot of storm damage and flooding all around. Lot of power lines down. We were without power for almost two hours. I hadn't been home very long when it started. I'm just so glad though that I was. I'd have hated to have been caught out in it. I'd went to HyVee to get DH's prescription. I hadn't planned on having to go to HyVee until DH came home and said he had a prescription that needed picked up. Going to walk when DH gets home. "Only" in the 80's today.
Karen, DH says that one person can go with him for his surgery. I almost wish I could just drop him off and pick him up later. I hate sitting around that long. I'm not the most patient person waiting around.
Marsha, when do you get the results of the covid test? It's scary because you just never know who might have it. Sad so many people aren't taking it serious. States have opened back up way too soon. Maybe people would if our leadership did.
No more time to chat with anyone else. DH just got home....

Gareth - I think we'll have the results by Sunday or Monday. They said if it's positive they will call and if negative it will show up on my patient portal. So I'll start checking the portal on Sunday.
Robin - I think we will get used to the masks if we are all expected to wear them. They've been wearing them in Tokyo for years because of poor air quality. Humans all got used to wearing shirts and pants, why not masks?

Some days I would like to put my head in the sand! lol If people would just do what’s asked of them - as in wearing masks, life would be so much easier. But of course not, people do as they please, and when state governors come down on them, they wonder why. People can’t be trusted to do the right thing.
Robin, I use one of those rectangular long handled sponge to spread Quick Shine. Maybe if I get the Bona swiffer I can use it in between times. This way my floor will be washed twice as much!
I just placed a pickup order at WW to be picked up tomorrow. We shall see!

I know, just wear the darn mask! I'm just so tired of people acting like it's so hard to wear one. Instead of wearing one, they go on the internet and find some obscure or non-medical person telling why the masks don't work and it's all a vast conspiracy. I have seen posts where the person says "I am not responsible for your health." or that the count has not really gone up, but then are pictures of hospitals being overcrowded again. Quit whining and put on a mask. You won't look any sillier than everyone else.

Anngie, I will let you know what happens when I use the Bona on top of the Quick Shine. I am pretty amazed about how the quick shine works. I was using a microfiber mop to spread it. It works well, but then the quick shine dries on it, and doesn't really come out that well. Maybe I have to wash it by hand.
Carol, how can they say cases aren't going up with the numbers the way they are? How did Florida get over 10,000 positive cases yesterday?
I'll admit that if I had to wear a mask all the time I wouldn't like it, it is hot. But, we do what we have to do.
We are having a break in the storming now, hopefully more than a break and it won't start again. So far we did not lose our power, so that is good.
