Welcome to the CLUTTERBUSTERS thread. We are a daily thread, Monday thru Friday, and we have a combined weekend edition Saturday and Sunday. We welcome new members and are a friendly, helpful and supportive group.
Our purpose is for support and sharing of tips and strategies in dealing with weight and clutter issues in our lives. Many feel that the two are often tied together. So, we will lend a caring ear, and hopefully give and learn tips to help all of us.
We want to remove at least 5 items or spend at least 15 minutes clutter busting today!
Remember, it didn't pile up in one day so it isn't going away in a day either. One organizer says: you don't have to stop everything to get organized, you just have to start somewhere.

Good morning,
Heading to work soon. Rain expected today, hopefully the forecast is right cuz. It’s not raining yet.
Had a bad night sleeping. Even with AC I could feel this humidity. Tossed and turned a lot. I listened to my sleep podcast, it didn’t help too much.
I went grocery shopping, pickup up fruit and veggies.
I’ll be back after work.

Joyce, our humidity has been bad here also. We got some rain from the tropical storm, only about ¾ “ we need more but according to the weather guessers we have a chance of getting some on Sunday or Monday, hope so. I agree about the humidity making it harder to get a good nights’ sleep. Hope you had a good day at work.
Ruth, there are so many types of hearing loss. In fact I don’t like how loud Bill will play the TV at times. My aids help with amplification but there are still some sounds that I have trouble with, beeper on stove is a real problem. We now use closed captioning when watching TV. That seems to really help, reading and listening at the same time. Sorry to hear that your son is having more problems. It is good that you can have Mara for the weekend so he can get some rest.
Waving to Martha. I live in Connecticut but am fortunate enough to winter in Florida. We were hoping to go down to Florida for a month this fall but the virus numbers down there are very scary and at this time we have that plan on hold.
The area I need to concentrate on is our basement. I have 3 bags of items ready to go to Good Will, it is just a matter of putting them in the car and dropping them off. I also have 3 of the medium size moving boxes filled. I am saving this because the ASP (Appalachian Service Project) group at our church is supposed to have a rummage sale in fall if the current situation changes. The ASP group has been going to Appalachia every summer for almost 25 years (not this summer of course). There are usually 25 to 30 people going and many of them are teenagers. DS#2 went between his junior and senior year of high school. Because it is an expensive trip for kids they try to hold several fund raisers each year. The 3 boxes I have ready for that can be held till next year if they can’t hold the rummage sale this year. The boxes are packed and in a corner for now, so really not in my way in the basement.

Good afternoon all. We are to get rain this afternoon later. Last week we had the 93 temps with the 105 feels like! It was too much! We had Mara out in the backyard for a while this morning with the water table. Stan put up the shade awning. But the heat has him not feeling good. So what’s he doing now, he’s out mowing in it because rain is due later and the grass is getting long. Hope he gets some rest in the house in the AC with the fan blowing in a bit.
I’ve not gotten much done today. I’m going to do a load of laundry in a few. Wash the used Swimsuits I bought Harper and some towels and other stuff. I put a 2T swim suit on Mara today and it’s too small. Maybe if she wasn’t still needing a swim diaper it would be better; but she’s long bodied so I’ll need to find a 3T. First I’ll search the bin of things I’ve kept from Harper/Sawyer. Then I’ll search the sale sites.
Dottie, both DH & Carol’s DH got hearing aids From Costco and are very happy with the service. I think DH has some form of hearing loss that the aids aren’t helping. Sitting in the same room with him, 6’ away he often doesn’t hear me! Or next to me in the car even. And he so often has the tv on for background noise, so the closed captioning would be a waste. He has the tv on 24/7 if he’s up. Even when he’s reading a book; playing a game on his iPad or doing something on his laptop! When I complain, he asks what I want to watch! Ah, nothing, I’d just enjoy the peace and quiet. I don’t need background noise!
Ok, Mara just took herself upstairs for her nap. She often does that when she’s tired. She wanted her Nuk (pacifier) and I gave that to her and up she went. She said she needed “quiet time”!!! Me too!! We would like to take Nuk away completely, but her parents let her have it anytime she wants it and she talks around it. Papa makes her leave it in the crib 99% of the time when she gets up. Sometimes she’s ok with that and sometimes she throws a fit! And you never know which it’s gonna be. Gonna go throw in laundry and get a couple other things done. I’ll check back in later, but at least I’m here now and it’s not 11:30 pm!!!

Work went by quickly today. We’re finally getting some rain, temps and humidity coming down. Feels so much better. My AC was running almost all day yesterday.
I’m tired, planning on getting in a quick nap. Setting an alarm so I don’t sleep too long.
See ya tomorrow

Good afternoon~ Thanks for the warm welcome to the group.
Intro - Martha, , 29 yo and holding, and holding. Married for 32 yrs (Dec will be 33) No kids, no pets. WW Lifetimer that unfortunately gained it all back and then some. Not always able to use computer on weekends. . The clutter isn't just in my own house. After both parents died, we (older sis, younger bro) had 2 houses to clean out. Luckily, the houses were somewhat close together (Clarkston WA and Spokane WA).One we got totally emptied and sold. The other has the upstairs rented to a refugee family. We have the basement for when we (or very close friends) come to town. It's half filled with stuff we need to go thru. For the one house, we got a 10 yard dumpster and filled it 4 times while I was there. For in my own home, I try to keep it to one area.
Today, went and got groceries like usual. Wore mask and got 99% of my list. Then to WinCo for their bulk area. Today I just got different type of nuts. Dh helped me bring the groceries in and I have all but produce put away. After lunch grabbed some spinach and lettuce from our garden. Dishwasher running and I have a couple minutes to rest.
Started tracking my food today, but not points. One thing at a time for me.
It's 80* and cloudy.
Dinner tonight is: Tofu & Vegetable Stirfry over Quinoa.

Joyce, hope you are doing OK. Let us hear from you when you can. Take care and prayers continue for you.
Ruth, it is great that Mara will go down for a nap when she is tired on her own. Sounds like she is getting tall. Are your DS and DIL tall? My brother got his hearing aids from Costco also and has been very happy with them. I hope to go there one day this week and check them out.
Martha, it sounds like it was and still is a big job going thru your parents houses. My mom was a one in one out type of person. Bill’s mom was the complete opposite. My DMIL had Alzheimers and Bill went to help his family clear his mom’s house when she went in the nursing home. He found blouses/shoes/purses and pants with tags still on them or hardly worn. She also had big-big bills, no wonder. She could shop all day. When she would come to visit she wanted to go to a different mall every day and shop all day. I worked so had to use some vacation days to go with her, I am not a big shopper, so to me that was not a good way to use my vacation days. Are you still working? I retired in Dec. 2012.
We had some rain last night but not much. Today is cooler, in the low 80s and quite windy, so Bill is going to wait till tomorrow to cut the grass. We have at least one pair of hawks in the area. I got a picture of one sitting on a tree stump in our backyard. The hawks are really getting the squirrel and chipmunk population under control. One day last week I could hear the hawks, they have a very distinctive call, but there were still 8 squirrels in the yard that I could see. There were probably more squirrels in the trees but I couldn't see them due to all the leaves.

Well, I’ll probably be in the hospital until Tuesday at the earliest. I had a stroke that affected the right side of my face and fingertips on my right hand. As of today, the effects are gone, looks like no residual damage.
They are still doing tests because I also have a small aneurysm that they have to decide what to do with. I’ve gone through a lot of tests so far. They are taking good care of me.
I’m doing ok, texting with my db a lot. Something similar happened to him years ago, I’m now finding out what he went through.
I’ll keep you updated.

Joyce - Thinking of you and sending healing prayers/thoughts. Glad you were able to get to the hospital & get things figured out quickly. That will help the recovery process. Dottie - I didn't find things with tags still on them. (I could have missed that part) We did, however, find 4 canes, 4 weed wackers, etc. They both liked going to thrift stores. The stuff left in the basement is still more than should be in one house. DSis (who doesn't need the stuff as she already had a storage locker) took a fair bit of stuff with her. Since DBro lives in Europe, is more of a minimalist, and didn't want a lot. I wanted some things but in talking to DH, passed on them. Ruth - my grandma was sitting 3 feet away from smoke detector, talking on phone, and she didn't hear it going off. There were several pitches of sound that she couldn't hear.
Was able to get a lot of my 'have to be done's. Mainly getting stuff ready for DH's lunch/snacks at work.
I'm not currently working. I was just about to start looking when the pan-damn-ic hit. So I putz around the house, go for an occasional walk, play in the dirt aka garden.
Dinner tonight is: Pork Chops with Vegetable Curry over brown rice.
Sending hugs out to whomever needs them.

OMG!!! I didn’t get back last night and missed Joy’s medical news. Prayers going up for a speedy recovery with no residual health concerns Joy. I also copied your posts onto the other site and I know they will all put you in their prayers also. Sounds like you are getting good care, hope there are no covid cases where you are. Hope you can continue to keep in touch with DB and us. That is so scary. So glad you recognized the symptoms right away and got help.
Marsha, welcome. So nice to hear some background on you. As I said the other day, I’m Ruth, in MN. 71-1/2 and been retired since 2004. I was the secretary to the Athletic Director of a large Twin Cities High school. So glad I’m not there anymore! Been married almost 52 years, grew up in Iowa & met DH @ Iowa State U. We have 3 children. Older DD (Sheri, married, 3 DD’s, twins 27, 22); DS (married, has Mara, 2-1/2, who you will hear lots about because we are her daycare); and younger DD (married, has 2 DDs, Harper (9-1/2) & Sawyer (6-1/2) who we were also daycare for Years ago. We love spending winter vacations on Maui (own timeshares); we read, watch too much tv, DH is a ham radio operator, and we have a Lab, Maggie.
Dottie, DS is about 6’ tall, long body, long legs; DIL is shorter than me, long body, short legs; Mara is going to have long body & short legs like her mom and I. My DH has extremely long legs tho he was only 5’11” max. But he has a really short body; I have long body, short legs. Older DD is built like DH; DS & younger DD are both long bodied & long legs. Harper is going to be tall like her mommy (5’10”), Sawyer is built like me. DGD Kira is tall, about 6’.
Yeah, DH’s hearing issues are an issue. He has tried hearing aids twice; returned the first ones after about a month because he didn’t feel they helped; I thought they did some. He got the 2nd ones from Costco and I’m not impressed with how well he hears with them. Apparently my voice is one of the tones he has trouble with. He struggles with the fear that he will have dementia like his mother did and so he thinks that some of his problem is that he isn’t processing what he actually hears. Drives me crazy!
DS Carol and I cleaned out our DM’s house after she passed. She had started cleaning and had an auction even after my dad died 10 years earlier. She was not a hoarder, he had been. But Carol traveled from Iowa to work on it and Stan & I traveled from MN to work on it; and we got it done in 2 weekends, with a lot of help the last day from DS Carol’s 2 DBsIL. And then we had an auction which was a waste of time. We’d have been just as well off donating what was left or even us taking more of it. Her clothes had already been boxed up by our other sister who then washed her hands of the whole thing, even tho she only lived 50 miles from DM. She’s a piece of work!!!
We’ve had a good weekend with Mara. Weather has been nice and she’s gotten lots of water table and baby pool time this weekend. She talks more every time we get her back. Marsha, we didn’t have her for 10 weeks or so because her DM is an RN and was working in the ER at a major TC hospital. She now works on a Rape Crisis Team. DS was furloughed early on and was permanently laid off one day last week. He’s doing ok I think, but it’s going to be tough. Sure hope Congress passes an extension to the unemployment help. They need it.
ok, going to get a few chores done. In cb’ing, I sold a desk & chair to the gal who has cleaned for us. She had posted that she was looking for a desk and we had one to get rid of. She and her DH came and picked it up right after dinner. Will check in early tomorrow to see how Joy is doing. Will add her to my prayer list tonight.
