Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Beautiful morning. Clear skies, high of 84 expected, but that awful humidity is lowered.
Marsha, good luck on your results, but I am sure it will be negative. Did DD come up for the weekend? Lol, good one, on the leadership being alien!! That might explain a lot!! Have fun this weekend weeding!
Anngie, yes, that sounds like an awful job, I can see why you hate it! Sorry, I can't help you on any advice. We have carpeting, and vinyl flooring, no wood. My leg is still there, when I use it, it acts up. Thanks for asking. I will just get used to it, like my knees. How did your storms turn out last night? I saw on the national news you all were expecting that tropical storm to hit, and come all the way up New York state. Wow!!! They were showing it hitting on Long Beach NY, it was awful! Good luck with your WM order. Let us know how it went.
Carol, good luck in your extreme heat this weekend. We just finished a 5 day stretch of 90 degree temps with high humidity, and we sure were happy that it is done! I even turned off our ceiling fan in the living room last night....I wanted to see if I need to dust it. (Yes, I do! I will do that today) That is the thing with mask's. Businesses have to take it in their own hands and say no mask, no entry. That simple. Then maybe all those people that don't wear them, will get in a habit of wearing them. As Marsha says, this crap is not going away any time soon, so we all have to do our part. I saw a video on IG on how to tighten up the fit of disposable masks, so I tried it, and of course mine was a fail.
Robin, I have seen the ads for Imperfect Foods on FB, and have read so many of the comments posted on their ad, and hardly any of them are good. You are one of the exceptions. But you live in NY, so that might make a difference. One of the big complaints is from people like me, that are far away from NY, that it takes forever to get a shipment, then when it gets there, most of the produce is spoiled. Just a waste of money.
Gareth, we did not get the storm as bad as yours. According to the National Weather service, GB received 1" of rain, there was some thunder and lightning, but it was not bad. There were other small towns that got more rain than GB tho. I did not hear of any damage, there was some minor flooding. So I think the storm calmed down a bit, by the time it got up here. Glad to hear you can go in the hospital with DH. I am sure our hospitals are doing the same thing, for surgeries. It just ticks me off that I can not go with DH when he goes to his specialists. We have still not heard anything from his Urologist about the biopsy that was sent to Mayo. It has been 3 weeks since they took the specimen. I do know that results take a long time to get back from Mayo, but this is a bit long.
My day yesterday ended up laying on the sofa. Whatever it is that I have can just go away! It comes and goes, and when it comes, all I want to do is lay down. So yesterday was wasted. I feel good today, (so far) so hopefully it will leave me alone, as we need to do some errands.
Still reading The Shortest Way Home, and enjoying it.
Have a nice day everyone.

I woke up at 7:25, thought I would doze a few more minutes, but ended up dozing an hour. Walked the dog and had breakfast, so getting a late start, but because of possible rain today, we are not going to New Jersey.
Karen, I didn't see the pictures of Long Beach, but I can imagine. That is directly south of me. I am on the north shore, that is the south shore of the island. I have lived here my whole life, and they are just now calling those the "barrier islands". The Atlantic Ocean can get fierce with a bad storm, they were really hurt during Sandy, which I am sure was brought up during that news report. Luckily we did not have a power outage, but with the branches down in the area, it looks like it must have been really bad last night. It looks like our skylight might have leaked a tad. I need DH to get a ladder so we can check. There is paint that just started peeling last night on the ceiling at the corner of where the tunnel to the skylight is. Or whatever you call it.
DH gave me the Imperfect Foods log in so I can figure it out and add what I wanted. We want free shipping. They ship from New Jersey, so although not everything is great, and the 1st box had more damaged food than the 2nd, the produce is not the problem. Maybe when we find out that it has been delivered we can run home and put it in the house, rather than leaving it in the sun. He doesn't have patience to figure out how it works. They start with a basic box, but you can delete things from your box, or say you never want them, like zucchini. I don't particularly want ground pork either, but that was not in the next box. I added things like scallions, mushrooms, ground coffee, and Dave's Killer Bread, so I could get the free shipping. And, I took off things like lemons, not that I don't use them, but they have sent them in the last 2 boxes, so I am overloaded with lemon right now. I also added 1 butternut squash, the whole squash was $2.50, so let's see how big it is when it comes. I'll let you know.
How did Gary do this week with the radiation? Hope all is going along smoothly.

Rain chances all day but luckily it's held off so for so we got our walk after working my Zoom workshop. Cooler and less humid today again though 80's is still hot enough in the sun walking. Yesterday when we walked we saw all the storm damage from the day before's storm in the neighborhood. There's a LOT of tree branches down. Some really good sized ones too. Home owners and tree services are busy cleaning up the mess. That's one thing I like about where we live is that there's plenty of trees all around us but none in our yard to have to worry about.
Karen, I've debated about saying anything but feel I really have to. I do hope you take me serious. One of the symptoms of covid is symptoms coming and going like you describe so you really should be tested asap.

It's already 90 degrees and feels like 100. DH went out this morning to help some friends move. They sold their house quickly and apparently the buyers want to move in right away. I told DH to take water, wear a mask and sunscreen.
What exactly is Imperfect Foods. I've never heard of it.
Karen, hope you are feeling better.
Not really much to talk about today. Everyone have a good weekend.

Tropical storm Fay barely hit us, thankfully. A little rain, but that’s it. If we listened to the meteorologists we would still be in our basement. They try.
Back in early May I sent a request for all my father’s military records (whatever can be released I should say). I’m so anxious to learn about his service to our country - what he did, where and when. I already have dates of when he entered the army and when he was discharged. I just want to know what went on in between. I only know two things - he was a Captain and he was in the South Pacific. Looks like I have a long wait. Has anyone else ever tried to get military records?
Karen, how did DH radiation go? I’ll bet he’s tired. Gareth brought up a good point - maybe it’s time to get tested.
Robin, then are you near Jones Beach?
Hello to all!

Anngie, yes, I am north of Jones Beach. More due north of Jones Beach, Long Beach is a few miles further west actually. Lido Beach is in between. Our county beach is in Lido. I used to go a lot when the kids were young. We had friends who had a locker there, so we were able to shower off the sand before getting in the cars. They are open, and are only letting people in who live in the county. No paying extra for those not from here.
Gareth, I thought Karen had already had a test a few weeks ago, but of course she can always have another. It has been a very bad allergy season here, maybe because of fewer planes, cars, and even trains, but who really knows, so I keep feeling like I am having cold symptoms too, but none of the other symptoms. When I went to get tested, the doctor told me it was allergies, but agreed to test me anyway.

I will try this even tho DH is here, maybe he will leave me alone for a few minutes to post.
Gareth, we had the test about a month ago, so there is of course a strong possibility that I could have picked it up. I especially worry about that birthday party last weekend. It was all family, but DD had a few neighbors there also, but we kept away from them. It is very strange, as today I feel fine. I had a glass of wine yesterday, then right after that everything went south, so I am wondering if I maybe can't drink anymore....if that is the case, I will be crying A LOT!!! (As I LOVE wine!) I will test my theory again later today, and see. If I do not get sick on the wine, I will call Monday for a test. Also, please feel free to say anything that comes to mind, to me, I take constructive criticism very well. It is unbelievable what mother nature can do, with all those branches down. I can attest to that, after those couple summers at the house, with all the storm damage we went through. I am very glad you did not have any damage, even if you do not have trees, the high wind could take your neighbors branch and throw it into your house/windows.
Carol, thank you. I sure hope, as I mentioned to Gareth that it isn't my wine I drink, lol. But of course I do not want it to be the virus either. Good lord, either way I loose!!! Wow, on your heat!!! I really have a lot of admiration for you, for living in that heat, year round. I guess it is like us idiots up here in Wisconsin, in the winter, right? Robin, can probably explain Imperfect foods better than I can, as I just know from their ad, which is they ship to you all different produce, and meat, altho I had not seen the meat advertised, at cheaper prices.
Anngie, that was funny, about the weather people!!! Yes, 9 times out of 10 our expected storms do not produce the effects the weather people were predicting, so we all tend to take them with a grain of salt, then the storms hit with a vengence, like at Gareth's neighborhood. I just hate when I see on the national news, of people watching the tornadoes coming towards them, and some filming it also. Between me and my DH, we know most of what our fathers went through, in the war, so we have never thought to look up their records. I have all of my dad's books and paperwork on his battleship being bombed. I think my DH has all of his dad's things too. DH is actually an army brat, as his dad was a lifer.
Robin, omg, I would be so shocked if I slept that late! I would feel behind all day. My normal time to get up is around 6:15. Then I get at least an hour of quiet time. The news was showing the surf, and of course all the flooding of the streets right there, by the beach. It was pretty bad, with that strong wind. Will that leak be hard to fix? I hope it turns out to be nothing. I didn't know Imperfect foods had meat too, just thought it was not so good produce. I was going to order some meals from Hello Fresh, but was not happy with the meal choices, as I know DH would not want so much chicken. So I skipped a week, and wait to see what they have available for the next week. I am getting tired of coming up with meals, it has gotten to the point that it is the same old thing, week after week. The only side affect I see from the radiation is that evening he is very, very tired. Otherwise he is handling it quite well, thank you for asking.
We did our few errands, which was quick, just in and out of a couple little stores. I was a bit perturbed that at the bird seed store, which is a small store, there was a couple, a bit younger than us, that did not have a mask on. Come on people, really??? You go into a small store, where social distancing is hard to do, without a mask? Not nice.
I am taking all the family out to dinner next Saturday for DH birthday celebration, and we just added 2 people, (his brother and his wife), so I really need to make a reservation today. We are going to Longhorn Steakhouse. So it should end up to be 11 people, but I will just make the reservation for 12. I sure wish my baby brother was alive so he could round out the group, lol! I truly miss him though, even though I make fun. I think if he had not gotten sick, he would have done real good in today's pandemic, as he was such a loner.
Washer is done, gotta go, will check in later, most likely. I sure miss Pinky....and Marsha, on weekends.

Carol, Imperfect Foods is a company that has different types of food, all categories, that might have something wrong with the label, like it smudged, or the size of the avocado is too small to sell for the same price, same with the grapefruit. Here grapefruits usually sell for $1 each, more for the quality of this one, but it was on the small size, so no one would probably want it. Of the meat, so far we had ground bison and ground beef, and both were good. The beef was grass-fed. Our next box is going to have chicken cutlets. I also picked out some things I wanted to get free shipping. Unlike DH, who didn't know what to pick, and what prices are, I took things I would actually use, like mushrooms, a red cabbage. I'll have to weigh the red cabbage and butternut squash when I get it to see if it is really a good deal.
Not that I got any, but our excitement of the neighborhood was that they had Mr. Softee trucks going around. This is a special thing because of the pandemic. Our village does not allow ice cream trucks. They feel it is too dangerous.
Karen, I did not remember that your DH's birthday was so close to my DH's. His is the 15th. My older DS was on the 7th. my younger one is tomorrow, so that is why we are having them both over. So far I made a carrot salad and something I am calling quinoa tabbouleh. My DDIL has celiac, so she has to be gluten free. We are smoking ribs and salmon.

Good morning. What a nice morning! Humidity is gone, and the temp is 64. Temp will just get up to 78!!!
Robin, thank you for the explanation of Imperfect Foods. You make it sound so good, what a nice switch from all of the bad comments I had read about them. I wonder though, since you live so close to them, if that makes the difference? I ordered my meals from Hello Fresh, for the week of July 21st. Very excited about the meals I picked, and I think DH will be happy. Some of them are a step up in prep, but I think I am up for it! Speaking of birthdays, which you are loaded with this month, (which is what we have in December....mine, both of our daughters, 1 grand daughter, and our wedding anniversary), we also have a sister in law, hers being on the 15th too. So we will celebrate her birthday Saturday, as they will be there too. Usually they are up north camping the week of her birthday, so we never see them, to celebrate together, but they sold their travel trailer this past spring, and will be doing a staycation this week. Are you doing the birthday celebration's today, or next weekend? I am not sure if the ice cream trucks are going through town yet. Usually DD1 is good for a pic or 2 on FB about the kids gathering around one in the summer, but so far there has not been any.
Hi to Pinky (hope you are doing great, I sure do miss your chats!!!), Anngie, Gareth, Carol, and Marsha.
Got up with a massive headache, and am thinking it was from the mucinex I took last night for my coughing. With a couple of tylenol and coffee, it is slowly going away. Feeling pretty good otherwise, so I will see how it goes by tomorrow, before calling for a covid test. Also, on our provider website, they have a link to do a self test to see if you have the virus, before making an appointment for the test, so we will do that also.
Not much going on here today, but as it is Sunday, I will run to the grocery store in a little while. I like going on Sunday mornings, since it usually is more quiet then.
Should be finishing The Shortest Way Home tonight, then I will try to get back into What Happens in Paradise by Elin Hildebrand, as I tried it when I first got it, but it did not interest me much.
Have a wonderful day!

Karen, that might be the case, about it taking longer for boxes to get to people. I don't think their packaging is great. Yes, the meal services do take longer to prep, but you have to add in the time that it would take you to get all those ingredients out for a recipe, then put them all away. The great thing is that you open the container, whatever they have it in, then throw it away. No measuring. We often don't think of that. That is the big plus for me. Now that I am in control of our Imperfect Food orders, I am going to put it on bi-weekly, instead of weekly. DH thinks the things are cheap, because they tell them they are, but seeing as he rarely shops, he doesn't know what I can easily find on sale. Yes, maybe one thing or another is, and he is going to have to be happy with the ground coffee I bought him to make his cold brew, but really? Not. I am considering trying Sun Basket. It's another meal service and it looks like it is a bit healthier. Although Blue Apron has some recipes that are good, many of them are very high calorie, high points. Not that I am counting that now, I am just eating natural, no sugar, no white flour, no artificial ingredients.
As far as those on-line COVID tests go, they will ask you if you have a fever, heaviness in your chest, coughing, losing sense of smell and taste, that kind of thing. You might have an allergy, so have a sinus headache. Mucinex is very good. Did you take the regular or the D? The D can raise your blood pressure.
We are almost ready for our dinner tonight with the kids. Of course I still have to clean. I can't wait to see Maddie!

Gorgeous morning when we walked. 70º and sunny. 80's later. We had a round of storms that moved through the state again late afternoon yesterday. We didn’t get the brunt of it like part of the state did with 90 mph winds. All we had was rain and hail and not a lot of wind. I can't imagine 90 mph wind. The 70 mph we had Thursday was bad enough.
Speaking of birthdays we have a lot in July too. The 10th was our nephew's. DH's is tomorrow. DS's is the 17th. If my stepdad and DH's brother were still alive their birthdays were in July too. I'm not sure when we'll get together with DS to celebrate his and DH's birthdays. I'm making a special meal for DH today. He loves chocolate chip cookies so I'm trying a recipe I saw on FB for chocolate chip bars using a cake mix.
Karen, I'm still worried about you.
Robin, does that mean we finally get to see more pictures of Maddie?
Anngie, glad you missed the brunt of the storm there!
Carol, another hot day for you?

Yes, hot here. We have heat advisories and the heat index yesterday was around 110. DH drank a lot of water when he was helping our friends move. He brought home 3 empty bottles to put in the recycling.
Even though I have a lot of books here, none of them are calling out to me right now. I think I'll try to go to the library this week or least, find something on Overdrive.
We just got done with live-streaming church. It looked like attendance was down from the last 3 weeks. They decided to make it mandatory to wear masks and I think some people would rather stay home than wear a mask. DH and I haven't really discussed going back. I'm thinking waiting to at least August, maybe even later depending on how our county is doing with new covid cases and number of deaths.
Chocolate chip bars sound great!
Karen, I hope your headache goes away soon.
Robin, have fun with Maddie.
Hello to everyone else.
