Day 31 Decide About Drinking
Whether or not to drink alcohol is a personal choice. If you decide to drink alcohol you need to plan on how to fit it into your food plan.
According to Beck alcohol has 7 calories per gram which is about twice the 4 calories per gram of protein and carbs. Mixers for drinks often are caloric too so mixed drinks can end up being a lot of calories. She points out that if you eat less to be able to drink you could rebound by eating more later because you are hungry. You can also end up overeating because alcohol lowers your inhibitions.
Beck feels that if you don’t plan ahead about your drinking of alcohol you can easier end up drinking too much.
If you want to include drinking alcohol in your food plan she suggests you list the advantages and disadvantages and figure out how to fit it in.
Do you plan on drinking alcohol? If you do how do you fit it in?
Do you have sabotaging thoughts about drinking alcohol? How do you handle them?

I don't drink alcohol because it bothers my depression.

If you want to include drinking alcohol in your food plan she suggests you list the advantages and disadvantages and figure out how to fit it in. Advantages: relaxing end to the day, sharing socially, I enjoy it Disadvantage: one can become more, having alcohol can decrease inhibitions, more can be eaten without thought when having alcoholic beverages, calories don't provide nutrients the body needs
Do you plan on drinking alcohol? If you do how do you fit it in? I do plan on having wine/alcohol from time to time. I fit it in by saving points for it and then enjoy it when I do have it.
Do you have sabotaging thoughts about drinking alcohol? How do you handle them? Not unless I go over the points I planned to have as alcohol...then the ST do seem to kick in. I handle them by kicking the thoughts behind me, dusting myself off, putting my journal front and center and moving forward without looking back.

Do you plan on drinking alcohol? If you do how do you fit it in? I include it in my menu when dining out or entertaining at home. I measure my servings and track them, within my blue dot range.
Do you have sabotaging thoughts about drinking alcohol? How do you handle them? I often have thoughts like: You have enough points left. Go ahead, have another glass with some chips or pretzels!! Response:You still have weight to lose. Doing that won’t help.

I have to be vigilant with drinking. I allow two days a week to drink at home, with DH, with meals, wine only. I plan for it calorie wise.
I will indulge when eating out, but that has gone by the wayside these days.
My GI issues do not allow over consumption. I can get away with 2 drinks if it's only twice a week. On vacation I want to drink daily. Then I can only have one drink per day without paying a price with GI issues.

I have a glass of Moscato on rare occasion and plan for it. I've never been a drinker so this really isn't an issue for me.

Try to limit to weekends. 1-2 drinks. Switching to ice tea or water is a given.
