I'm IN.
ππ΅ππ΅ππ΅ππ΅π
π°White Rabbit!π°White Rabbit!!!π°
Today we are at home. There is still much to do for DBigBro, in particular careful planning of what he will take into his Assisted Living unit. Most but not all of the financial stuff has been addressed (still need a couple of log-ins, and there are organizations where I cannot get to "a live body" due to ridiculous wait times exceeding 60 minutes). Our goal is to have all the plans in place by 8/14 so the last few days until moving day (Thursday 8/20) can be used for putting out those never-ending fires and hot spots.
Coffee... βββ... here's to US... <mug held high!!!>...

diva49 , good luck with your day and I hope you see an end to all this soon!! Good morning. Absolutely beautiful morning, sunny, breezy, 72 degrees. Finishing up my coffee and heading outside to do some garden stuff. Things need feeding and weeding and the tomatoes are starting to come in. Once I get five pounds I will make some roasted tomato sauce and freeze it. Hoping to get enough tomatoes to put up enough sauce to last the winter. If not I think I will buy tomatoes at the farmer's market this year to make sure I have enough. I cut down the green onions yesterday, leaving the bulbs in the planter and they'll give me another crop in a few weeks. Most of the onions will be sliced into little rounds and frozen. Great for tossing into omelets, Asian dishes, etc, during the winter. My little harvest, from a 24" deck rail planter: Wishing all a good day. KOKO.

Good morning. Ferals fed, bike almost stolen while I was feeding them. Scared the daylights out of someone when I came out of the marsh and yelled get away from my bike. Heading to friends and their pool for the afternoon so planning is a bit difficult.

Good morning. The rain started about 3 a.m. with a lot of thunder and lightning. The roofers are struggling to finish the job at our house. They had hoped to get that done today but I think the morning rain will stop that. fullmahina, loved your picture; you certainly have a green thumb! Enjoy the bounty and I hope you get enough to put some up for the winter months. diva49, I hope you get some time at home. I'm glad you're able to help DBIL. I don't know the story of why you and Toots had to step in to get his finances in order but I'm glad he's got someone helping. Does he have dementia that caused the necessity? I hope you all have a good day all!

loved your picture; you certainly have a green thumb! Enjoy the bounty and I hope you get enough to put some up for the winter months. Thanks linda72. Most are already sliced into little rounds and in the freezer. I freeze them on a flat sheet pan and then shovel them into ziplocs. They stay separate, easy to grab a handful for cooking. I also grow them under lights in the basement during the winter so I have fresh ones too when I want them.

I'm in. Good noon all! Hi fullmahina , your green onions look so good! Wish we lived closer
90 and a lot less humid for a change. Weeding and watering on tap today. I'm thawing chicken to throw on the grill later. We're sticking close to home so maybe a rented movie tonight.
Have a great day everyone!
Wow, scary susiq25679 , enjoy the pool.

diva49, I hope you get some time at home. I'm glad you're able to help DBIL. I don't know the story of why you and Toots had to step in to get his finances in order but I'm glad he's got someone helping. Does he have dementia that caused the necessity? DBigBro ended up in the hospital on 6/2 and then in rehab from 6/6-7/10. Pneumonia, CHF, COPD, sores, obesity. Senior Living apartment was declared to be a hoarding situation and he could not "go home" so The Deep Cleaning Tag Team of Toots & Diva went in from 6/26-7/2 and got 'er done to the point where the community agreed not to proceed with eviction and the health care folks were willing to let him go home (we determined that bad as it was, it was only about a Stage TWO; we've dealt with worse). And we offered to help "get him situated" for a couple of weeks when he was released from rehab and then found out how bad things really were (let's just say that on-line stock market forays last fall and point-and-click on the computer all winter and then lockdown and quarantine and social isolation and liquor deliveries - and he's deaf - had a really, REALLY bad effect). We went in to catch him up on some bills from his 6 weeks out of the apartment and found that instead of a surplus the account had just barely gotten back to a small positive cash flow - except for the $10K+ check he'd just written for back rent. A blissfully-ignorant use of e-statements together with overdraft protection has been a deadly combination. A Rutgers University sociology professor emeritus wrote an op-ed piece for the Wall Street Journal a couple of months ago that describes the "Benevolent Incarceration" of life in a senior community during the pandemic. What I would really like to see is an in-depth study by sociologists and psychologists of the impact of such Benevolent Incarceration, long-term, especially for the marginalized residents such as those who live alone with hearing loss / deafness.

diva49, is it possible that, in the light of what you've seen, Russ could be deemed incompetent and your husband could be granted guardianship?

diva49, wow, what a story. I'm so glad he has you and Toots to help him. Think of the people who have no one watching out for them. Yes, the stories from the pandemic will be shocking and sad.

is it possible that, in the light of what you've seen, Russ could be deemed incompetent and your husband could be granted guardianship? DBabySis holds POA based on documents executed in 2009. She has indicated that she cannot (and will not**) carry it alone and e-mailed Russ when he first got home and we realized that things were not going well, asking that a new POA be executed with her and Toots as co-POA, with the ability to make decisions independently (although we do discuss everything, all the time). Russ also changed his mind about his "model railroad" bequests in his will (much simpler the way he wants it now; collection is insured for $30K so this is a big deal) so he needs a codicil. He agreed, and we found an elder-attorney who will bring the documents to Cedar Crest to be executed. She knows what our timeline is, since the day he moves into AL he goes into quarantine and the facility as a whole is under lockdown (CV19 rules). We are walking a fine line. He is getting "less adult" every day. **DBabySis' DH is disabled; he has lupus and suffers from chronic migraine, among other conditions. She has a full plate at home, without adding a heaping scoop of DBigBro.

diva49 , damn what a tangled mess! So sorry you are going through this and I hope that once the move to AL is accomplished things will get easier. Russ sounds like a giant handful and the fact that he is getting "less adult" every day only adds to the difficulty. When my mother was going downhill there were similar issues and honestly, there was no peace until she was finally admitted to a full service skilled facility (aka Nursing Home). Until then it was a string of living conditions, levels of care involving multiple hospitalizations, rehab, home care, declarations by her that she was "perfectly capable of handling her own affairs," etc etc etc. Hoarding with angry assertions of "hey that stuff is still good!" when we tried to clear stuff out (hello, magazines and supermarket circulars from years back). Even in the NH she was belligerent to the point of almost being removed to a state facility because of her combativeness and disruptive behavior with other residents. Medication toned that down to the point where she was allowed to stay at that NH until she passed away. I could go on and on but I haven't had any wine yet. Good luck with all of this---I wish you some peace at the end of this awful ride.

We met a fellow diligent quarantining friend at the beach yesterday but I chose the very end of the beach where it wasnβt crowded so we were able to set ourselves up 10+ feet from each other. Holy cow was that beach packed in the main area. Weβre not going back to that one for now. I only did that one because it was equal distance between both our homes but next time I am sticking to our usual beach closer to my house that is never crowded.
