Pick a small, red plate.
The color red signals STOP! to your brain, and findings show that people who eat off of red plates really do end up scarfing down less, says Lewis. Swapping your standard dinner plate for a salad-sized one helps, too. "When you start out with a smaller plate, you're more likely to take your time to make the food last longer," Lewis says.
I don't have a small red plate to try, do you? Do you use a salad plate?

I don't have a small red plate to try, do you? Nope...my DIL does but I think their family eats plenty Do you use a salad plate? Most of the time I use a salad plate but not for every meal. Don't like to crowd my food

I often use a salad plate instead of a dinner plate... I purchased two dinner plates that are noticeably smaller than the dinner plates that came with my set of dishes, and I'll use them for dinner, but most of the time I use a salad plate (or else eat a large salad with some protein thrown in for lunch or dinner).
I have no red plates...

Well, that's interesting!
I don't have any red plates.
I use whatever plate/bowl seems to fit the food I'm planning to eat. I don't like food to touch (I know,it's a bit quirky), so might use a bigger plate, but there's space between the food. I guess I'd say I pick the plate that fits the serving I've determined, not the other way around. The dinner plates we use are not terribly big - they are older and so not as big as some are in newer sets.

Don't have a small red plate to try. I do use a salad plate but I don't eat much at a meal anyway. Most generally I have a fruit or something for a snack between meals.

I don't have a small red plate to try, do you? No...I don't think I would like a red plate Do you use a salad plate? This is interesting. We were at a wedding on Sat. The plates were salad sized (buffet) - it was about 2:30 when we ate and I was hungry. The plate seemed to small. I like Judy and Cathy prefer my food separate on the plate. DH could put his all together. Marie

I don't have a red plate, I may have to get me one. I do usually eat out of a smaller plate. When we had the kitchen re-done, last fall, I bought a new set of every day dishes. (Old set was cracked & missing pieces), I picked out a set (think they are from the Food Network collection) that has larger salad plates with it. I got them on purpose so that we could eat from those salad plates. (my old set had the same sized plates.) We eat 9 out of 10 of our meals out of them.

I've heard about the smaller plate, but never a red one. I love red. Will definitely have to try this. Thanks for the tip.

I use regular plates. I measure everything so don't really need a smaller plate.

I have Fiesta wear in almost every color. I bought each piece separately, as I didn't want the dinner plates or coffee mugs. I use salad plates as my only dinner plates, and then Fiesta's smaller plates as "breakfast and lunch" plates. Since I have a plate in every color, I have a red plate. I also have red and green plates that I bring out at Christmas. The color of the plate I pick depends on what color my food is.
