Good morning, chicksters.
Kathy, WAKE UP! YOU'RE LATE FOR WORK. Oh, wait, no, you're not. Never mind. What are you up to today?
Liz, I hope you are still sleeping. Is Gary off, too? Do the Puggles leave the Christmas presents alone or do they unwrap? Teddy gives them a wide berth like they are alien invaders. The cats used to chew on the bows and knock the tree over. They are the reason we gave up tinsel but not trees. We used to tie the tree down after the first incident in case they fit it into their heads to climb.
Becky, I am glad your leg is a little better than it was. I do think I might have acid reflux. Someone on another thread said she went to the ER with chest pains and they were not heart related. They sent her home with Prilosec and the pains went away. I hope it works for me.
Linda, is Micki warm enough now? How is Bob doing? Are you continuing to improve physically?
Karen, I am sorry you are all going through this with Phoebe. I hope you are able to being her home early. Be careful on the roads. I am glad you won't have to deal with SIL while you are taking care of Phoebe. Did you get your scoodie finished or was there too much travel? Are you going to the pool if you pick up Phoebe in the afternoon? How is your side of the family doing? Anyone coming for a Christmas visit?
Iggy was off yesterday but he took a day of rest. His digestive system was acting up. I have got him back on raw veggies, so I am hoping to clear that up. I think he ate too much beef over the weekend. Today we are off to Teavana. He wants to get some green jasmine tea and then we are going to GFS to get some frozen fish for fish kibbe.
We we are at 33° now and are not going to get much warmer. I don't mind this weather.

Thanks for the start, Chele. Kathy and Liz, ignore her and go back to bed. Chele, I didn't realize that Iggy is also a tea drinker. Are you done with shopping and wrapping? It's very possible that you are dealing with acid reflux. Have you tried ginger chews? TJ Maxx sometimes has a brand called Chime that are pretty good. The best ones, IMHO, are Ginger People brand and they do have them at World Market and Earth Fare, among other places. Sometimes I take those if I think I might have a problem and it usually works. Have you googled "natural remedies acid reflux" to see what comes up? You may be able to make some progress without using many drugs and some of the things that help are foods (and avoiding other foods). I don't think we have had a Christmas tree (other than our little ceramic one) up since Phoebe has lived with us, and our previous dog quit bothering it after the first year or so. Too funny about the cats. Will the fish kibbe be part of your Christmas feast? Will you be seeing the nieces over the holidays and will Iggy's brother be coming your direction? Yes, the one thing we don't need is SIL. But then there is no financial incentive now for her to have anything to do with us and that's fine with us.
We just heard from the hospital and Phoebe had a good night. But she was on a pretty heavy dose of IV pain meds to keep her comfortable plus they have had her on an anti-anxiety pill since she got there (after the way she behaved a couple of weeks ago), so I'm sure that has helped. They are in the process of weaning her off the IV meds and transitioning her to oral so they will call us back around Noon to let us know when we can pick her up. In the meantime, I will be cooking what I don't have on hand for her (she isn't eating there--no surprise--so she will be ravenous when she gets home) and doing some little things that will make it easier on her to get around with an inguinal incision, like additional throw rugs and putting a riser under the doggy stairs going to the bed. Thinking about biking but we'll see how that goes. Maybe I'll just walk on the dreadmill instead. I've been fighting sinus issues since yesterday afternoon so I'm trying to get past that. No road issues here today as it remained above freezing overnight. Will check back later to give an update after our girl is home.
Waving to the others. Hope everyone is enjoying their day so far.

Doing ok, knock on wood, more walking speed and better on a couple of steps. Very few buildings here with stairs. I probably would be in better shape if I still lived back east...except for probably falling on icy sidewalks! Be careful, folks.
poor Phoebe, such a miserable time for her lately.
Rainy morn...once again only at time DH walks Micki.
7:30 phone wakes me up...guy coming in half an hour. Huh? Forgot the maintenance check on heating was scheduled 8-12 today...usually we are at the 12 end! So he is here now and changing the filters so we don't have to.
DH wants to go to Total Wine and I will make the sauce for the German potato salad I am bringing Sat. Tomorrow I will do the potatoes and mix it, one of those things that is better after a day. Then Friday I will make the Julia Child stuffed mushrooms I have had for 24 years to bring along.

Chele, thanks for the start and the wake up call! I've actually done that before and I've also had the rude awakening that it was Monday when I thought it was still the weekend. That's the worst! I had a leisurely breakfast and I'm starting the great gift wrap/bag project that must be done by Saturday night. I'm also heading to the grocery store in a bit and getting that out of the way. I thought I was going to take my DM, but she went yesterday, so I'm just getting a couple of things she forgot. I hope the Prilosec does the trick for you. Karen, glad to hear Phoebe had a good night and hope she can come home soon. I hate that you're all having to go through this, especially around Christmas. It's in the 60s here now, but I think we're in for a warming trend and 82 on Christmas. I won't complain about that since it's supposed to be dry. It was really bleak looking all day yesterday. I'm hoping you don't hear from SIL. Liz, how are you spending your day off? Isn't it nice not to have to get up so early and commute in to the city? I could get used to this. Waving hi to Becky and Linda. Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Afternoon Chicks and thanks for the start Chele. Chele - Gary will be off next week Mon. Thurs. and Friday. He wasn't able to get any time off this week. I woke up with a headache and have been trying to rid myself of it most of today. I managed to get out to the grocery store and pick up the things to bring to DS for Christmas Eve. Had a couple calls and emails from work this morning that I had to deal with and just finished munching on some watermelon and blackberries. LOL on waking up as I was up with the pups and Gary at 5:30am this morning so for me that's sleeping in . I must have been fairly exhausted last night though since I fell asleep in the recliner and woke up and then went to bed. Hope you enjoy your trip to Teavana and that the Prilosec works for you! I've taken Zantac for many years for my acid reflux and actually do also like the ginger chews that Karen mentioned. I am a fan of Gin-Gins and keep them in my purse and at work. I'm so glad you feel better with your hair cut, I love when I need one and finally get it done. Karen - you surely have your hands full with Miss Phoebe. I am sending you and her Puggle hugs and human hugs since you all have been through so very much this past year. I bought basic nibbles such as cheeses, fig jam, pot stickers, turkey pepperoni and Greek yogurt for chips and dip. DS didn't want too much so we don't spoil our appetites for dinner. We will leave to go down on Saturday morning and will be back by Mon. afternoon. DS and her family will be leaving very, very early Mon. morning for their flight to Panama (their family vacation). It is in the mid 30s here but supposed to hit 40. There is still a decent amount of snow around so it may diminish with the rising temps due to come in tomorrow and over the weekend. I need to wrap Gary's presents and the few adds that I needed from yesterday. I also want to make an apple french toast casserole that we can have tonight or tomorrow depending on when I get it done. I hope things go well with picking up Phoebe today and that you're able to keep her comfortable and yourselves not too stressed! Kathy - have you finished decorating? I hope the wrapping and bagging is going well. The hip has been acting up off and on but I am hoping it will behave. I was fairly miserable this morning with the head and hip both hurting. Linda and Becky, am sending you hellos and will be back later to catch up. Just received a call from work that one of my staff mouthed off to a member of nursing administration and now that's an issue. Why the heck do I take days off? Ciao for now~

Chele,Thanks for the start.Have you started on the Prilosec yet?I hope it works for you too.I used to have acid reflex late at night but when I started eating healthier it went away finally. It was miserable.I know you eat healthy already so maybe some kind of acid in foods are aggravating it.I don't like it that cold.I think we started at 52 and it's already in the low 60's.The wind is about 15-20 MPH so it seems cooler. What is wrong with Iggy's digestive system that he can be off when he has too much tea?I knew I liked Iggy for a reason. He likes hot tea.Does he like the Teavana tea.It seems I have seen that name in some store.Lemon and ginger hot tea helps digestion that might help in your case too.
Karen,LOL on telling Kathy and Liz to ignore Chele and go back to bed.I agree.I know you will happy to get Phoebe home.Take care of that gal and let us know how she is when you get a chance.
Kathy,Good luck at the grocery store. We just went to WM after Curves and it wasn't as crazy as it's been the last few days.I have never been at WM when it's been so crowded before. Our local WM is a super WM but I guess except at Christmas while the kids are out of school is their only really busy time of the yr.
Liz,I hope your headache goes away soon.Enjoy the blackberries for me.I have mostly found with my IBS issues I can eat mostly anything as long as I leave blackberries alone so I have raspberries once a day and that has become my only fruit serving esp when I have 2 side salads a day.Where do you find the ginger chews?I might like that in addition to my lemon ginger tea.I don't have acid reflux but I know ginger helps all digestive issues.I don't think you ought to have to deal with work issues when you are off but then I don't work anymore.
Today was the last day Curves will be open this week so I ended up going 3 days in a row to make my 3 days this week.If it's not too cool feeling with the wind I will get a walk in just in case it starts raining tomorrow.I think the weather guessers are giving it a 30% chance.Sunday will be warm for Christmas and I am glad. Not quite 82 like Kathy but I would be satisfied with 75 like they are guessing at but another 30% chance of rain but not more than 1/2 inch.We can use everything we get this time of yr.
Scooter is so crazy.Last night Kenneth and I were hugging and normally when we do she just jumps on one of our backs but last night she barked at us.Jealous toot.I told Kenneth tonight we ought to hug and kiss to see what she will do.I think she is thinking Kenneth is stealing some of her mama's love away.LOL!

Liz, you and I have different ideas on sleeping in, lol! I slept 'til about 8, but then I usually get up around 7 which must be close to lunchtime for you. Hope your headache is better.
Becky, the store wasn't too bad today. I went to the one near the university and the students are mostly gone. It was still crowded though. I can imagine how bad WM was! When I left the store, I was waiting at a stoplight and saw a couple of dozen police cars go by at high speed. Then I saw more when I passed the university. When I got to my DM's house, there was a helicopter going overhead. They're just starting to show it on the news, but they didn't know yet what the guy was wanted for. I was glad to get home in one piece!
Linda, that's great that you're walking better.

Not good day. Started with waking up to phone with person saying he would be there at 8. Had totally forgot the 8-12 window got mantenaince check on he two heat pumps. Unfortunately he found two things going bad on ten year old unit and one on the two year one, and we finally added overflow cut off switches in attic in case the water from humidity backs up in . Don't want ceiling falling in. $$$$ It took all all day.
We had dog barricaded and Bob tripped getting by it and hurt knee and leg. Same knee as when dog attack on the walk made him fall. He is sore but ok .
I made goulash with potatoes on too and cheese over that for casserole tonight.made the German potato salad for Saturday..which improves if you make it ahead. Was starting the stuffed mushrooms filling, but ran our of energy. still had dog walk and store as DH not wanting to move much.
boy are my legs aching. Ate almost nothing all dY as stomach not happy and don't want supper.

Sounds like you're making progess but I know it's not coming as quickly as you would like, Linda. Yes, you're right that you may be better off in a place with stairs but the ice and snow could counteract that. I can't believe you are having more rain. Sorry that Bob hurt his knee again. So your heating system is now operating at full capacity, I hope. At least he called first. Did you make it to Total Wine and did you get your German potato salad sauce made? I haven't made it for ages. I may have to dig out my old recipe. Tell me about Julia Child's stuff mushrooms. I would probably like that. How far do you have to go for your get together?
Did you get your shopping done, Kathy? 82 on Christmas--only in Florida or Texas or SoCal. When is FSU's bowl game?
Liz, sorry to hear about the headache. I've been dealing with one due to sinuses since I woke up this morning. Were you able to sleep after you got out of the recliner and went to bed? Sometimes if I do that I can't sleep. I hope you are the only one taking nibbles to DS's if she didn't want many because it looks like you surely have a lot. I'm glad your weather is warming up a bit. Sorry about the call from work. Like I said earlier in the week, some people need to grow up and take responsibility. I guess it was a big deal to someone but I personally don't think it warranted calling you. But then that's just my opinion.
How warm are you supposed to be for Christmas, Becky? Does Curves open back up on Monday? Too funny about Scooter and her jealousy. She's quite a dog.
Chele, did you and Iggy get your shopping done?
Do you like my new avatar? The staff at the medical center decided that Phoebe's torso bandage needed to be festive so they decorated it. We got home around 4 and she has been sleeping, whining, or eating since we got here. At one point, she was on the edge of the couch sound asleep and neither of us was anywhere near her and she let out this blood-curdling yelp of pain. Not sure what happened but it must have passed. I think it's going to be a long night. We have a follow up appointment on Tuesday morning to change her bandage. It will be after Christmas so I guess it won't be decorated. Anyway, they upped her pain meds and I can't believe she is even conscious after the dose I gave her when we got home. They doubled one of her pain meds since last time and increased the other by 50%. And that is plus benadryl. She seems to be getting around a lot better than I thought she might. We won't start chemo until after the stitches come out, which we hope will be 2 weeks.
