Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Perfectly clear skies this morning. Chilly tho, at 39, going to 63 today. Marsha, what is the exact title of the spicy taco? I have not had any luck finding the recipe you are talking about. What dessert is usually allowed for your holiday? Are you taking any time off for it, such as today, or Monday? I too like to eat early so I am not snacking, but have found snacks to eat that I like, and are 0 points, so we can eat a bit later. Later for us is early for a lot of people. So then I have to behave all evening. Seems as tho I do not have a choice on masks, the disposable ones work the best for me, with my breathing. The cloth masks just cut my breathing off a bit too much. Marsha is right, in our area, county(?) we are assigned voting places according to where we live. That is why I was so happy to learn, after we moved here, our voting places is 2 blocks away, at the fire dept. Robin, the chair DH loves, and went into his bedroom is a glider. The chair built for him is his Lazy boy recliner. That stays in the living room. He is one happy fella!!! Now the only thing that would make him happier, would be for him to go out hunting, maybe Monday, and shoot a nice buck. I too would not have thought to wash the disposable mask either. I just buy a new package of them every now and then, they are not expensive. Gareth, here it is 39, so I have to pay attention to the predicted lows now, what with all the stuff out on the deck, with us stopping yesterday at the cemetery and bringing home the plants that were there, and the plant stands, so we have all of our stuff gone for the winter. I will have to google those plants to see what to do with them for the winter. Lipase is a chemistry that shows if your pancreas is off. The result was good, right in the middle of normal, so I am happy about that. We went to FLeet Farm yesterday and Menards too, and saw some people maskless. Very disappointed. And then the stats are released, for yesterday, we went over 2000, for the first time, so it looks at first look, that the masks are not helping. I do not know what to think. Anngie, yay, glad you have all that pre surgical work up done. About the in person voting, compared to the mail in, we would love to vote in person, but I won't stand in those long lines. We signed up for just this YEAR to do mail in voting. We have been discussing filling out our ballot and if it is early will mail it in right away. I do not care if it takes weeks to get a final tally as to who will be sworn in, since they are not sworn in till January. So if it takes all of November to call a winner, big deal. This year has been in the toilet most of the time anyway! Carol, I can't wait to get our ballots in the mail! We will fill them out and get them back ASAP. How did your teeth do, with the 5 month late check up? I hate when that happens, then it seems like the hygienist has to work harder. I too did all the cooking, when the kids were little, after I got home from work. Every day walking in the house was the same: Hi kids! Hi Mom...WHAT'S FOR SUPPER? That is one thing from them growing up that I do NOT miss!! I plan menus for aprox a little over a week, that is how I do my grocery shopping. I have been doing that for years, since I lost my job at the hospital, back in 2009. I love the desk so much where it is in the living room, I may have to take a picture of it and post it on FB. I said it needed a light on top of it, so I found one at Menards yesterday, and we both just love it. This morning we will be going into the woods to set up DH hunting tent. I like helping DH if the woods are not all wet, which should be the case today. Then tonight for dinner, we are going to the Moose, for fish, and I have to collect my free drink! The weekend is clear, no plans so maybe DH will go hunting. He is waiting on a call from the Gastro guys to schedule an appointment for a colonoscopy, per his Dr from yesterday. Have a nice day all.

A beautiful fall morning. The sky is somewhat blue today and showing promise of the sun shining. It is 42 degrees and should get into the lower 60's today. They said no chance of rain for the next 7 days.
Karen---glad your desk fit so well in your living room and everyone is happy. Sounds like your DH is much improved and getting back to himself.
Gareth---thanks for the tip about washing the disposable masks. I will try it. I get a new one every time I go to therapy and it seems kind of wasteful. They have given me a cloth one and I have a couple others made of cloth and I still like the disposable ones best, easier to breath.
Anngie---glad the pre--op is behind you and you are ready to go. October 1 isn't far off now.
Marsha and Robin---laughed out loud when I read your county is 100,000 and 1 and 1/2 milion respectively, our county is a whole 4,337!!!!!!! That includes 7 towns and a whole lot of rural people.
I thought I had posted yesterday but guess not because I didn't see it or remember it. DH and I took my car to the shop right away yesterday as we had to leave it there. They aligned it and there was some sensor out it the wheel so the AWD wasn't connecting or the cruise control. I remember reading the posts mid-morning when we got back bought remember now that I was interrupted. In the afternoon I cleaned up most of my flowers as they were looking so straggley and decorated outside for fall. That is always fun for me.
Oh yes I think I was interrupted when my sister called and told me another of my sisters and her DH have both come down with COVID. I did talk to my sister and she sounds tough but getting by, just really tired. Prayers and good thought for the both of them please. Lots of books right now----I immediately came back up for The Red Lotus and also The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek, both in audio. Before I realized I came up for The Red Lotus so soon I decided to borrow the big read offered through Overdrive which is Book of Little Axe. It sounded pretty good so thought I would give it a try. I am also skimming the book An Untamed Land by Lauraine Snelling. I read it a couple of years ago but suggested it to my book club and now that is what we are reading.

Karen - I don't know if this will work but here is a link: cmx.weightwatchers.com/details/WWRECIPE:5626a6442084d63a3401c982 They are called Spicy Chicken Soft Tacos with Goat Cheese. Traditionally on Rosh hashana we eat sweet things for a sweet year, frequently made with honey, but dh always likes apple pie because he loves apple pie. He agreed no apple pie so I made honey cookies, something sweet to have that won't necessarily be too many points if I only have 1. Of course, I've already had 4. Cookies are always best fresh! Then I found a bit of leftover apple crisp in the freezer so I took that out and we'll have that for dessert either tonight or tomorrow. I think I saw that the increase in cases are largely the 18-24 age group and they think it is related to going back to school plus the holiday weekend. Pinky - keeping your sister and her dh in my thoughts for an easy time through Covid. I'm not really liking The Good Omens (audio). It seems silly, although it got 5 stars and good reviews. I think I'll look for something else. The big read book is getting better. I got up early and made my brisket for tomorrow night. I tried a new Instant Pot recipe so I'll see how it turns out. Looked and smelled good. I left it to cool and hopefully dh will see it and slice it, but if not I'll take care of it at lunch. I thought I'd get the kitchen cleaned too but I didn't have time so I'm hoping to leave work a little early and do some cleaning before dinner. The saga of my friends and the scale we bought the one that said she wasn't losing anything - this morning she got on the scale and has apparently lost 10 pounds. I guess it pays to have the right equipment Based on the number she reported and her height I feel like she should not lose anymore but she wants her clothes to be loose. Maybe she should accept that at 61 she doesn't wear the same size she did at 25. Yes, I know, I sound a little catty. At least I'm not complaining about my son this week!

Karen, you were even cooler than us this morning. It seems though you're always a few degrees below us. We were at 43º when I got up. 67º predicted. Masks I think would be working if more people would be wearing them.
Marsha and Robin, happy holiday to you both.
Pinky, sorry to hear about your DS and DBIL. Hopefully they both have a mild case.
Anngie, your surgery date will be here before you know it.
Laundry is done again for a few days. Now I'm waiting for DH to get home and then we'll walk. I was curious of the population of our county so I just googled it, 131,228 and then googled Waterloo's population, 67,798 and then googled Cedar Falls our twin city where UNI (University of N. Ia) is, 41,048. Besides mailing your ballot in there's also a designated drop off box at our court house. I'll still mail ours since I'm sure it'll get there in plenty of time as long as we mail early.

Yes, the dental checkup was fine, no cavities. Yea! Now I'm back on going every 6 months. Of course, they wore masks and gloves. They checked my temp when I went in.
Pinky, your county is small. There are some like that in Texas especially in the western part of the state. Sorry about your DS and DBIL.
No big plans this weekend. We may go walk around the arts festival. According to the newspaper, the booths are going to be more spread out. There are usually activities for kids like a bounce house and face painting which I assume won't be done.

Happy Rosh Hashana to Robin & Marsha!
Yes, I’m really glad the pre-op is done. I will need to have a Covid test 4-5 days before surgery. The date was changed to Oct. 2.
Robin, we received the large postcard as well. It explained the three options for voting. DH might want to look into (interview?) surgeons who perform minimally invasive surgery in your area. That’s probably the best way to learn all about it and decide if it’s anything he would be interested in having.
Carol, our county is broken up into polling districts and we’re assigned to one. That’s the only one we can vote at.
Hi Gareth!
Karen, glad the new desk location is working out! I’ve used a small laundry bag to wash masks in and they’ve come out fine.
Pinky, prayers for DS and DBIL speedy recovery. I also came up for Troublesome Creek but put a delay on it. Hopefully I’ll get it back in a month or so.
Marsha, thanks for the recipe!
I read this in the newspaper: the return envelopes for mail-in voters have codes on them. It could be a series of numbers and letters or stand alone letters, but it could be coded with an R or D or I or G. Can this possibly be true? If I knew of anyone voting by mail I would ask them to look, but I don’t. I truly hope this is not the case. Now that I think about it, it really could be within a bar code. Never thought of that.

Karen, don't think the masks aren't helping, it would be worse without them, but there are lots of people who are still getting together in groups, I am sure at least as bad there as here, not to mention the students. If I went to a party where no one else other than me and my 2 friends, plus 1 of her DD's was wearing a mask, I can only imagine how common it is elsewhere.
I came home a little while ago and just had a quick lunch, now will start some cleaning and cooking. For dinner tonight I am making fried chicken cutlets, and I bought string beans to make on the side, with the cabbage and noodle dish I made yesterday. I will let my brisket sit a little while longer before I cook it, I had it out last night, put it in the fridge, wanted to take it out again before I left this morning but forgot, so now will let it go a little longer, and if I still think it's a little frozen, I will just cook longer. Tomorrow I am just going to make a steak for me and DH.
Pinky, I keep googling the population of states when someone talks about new cases. I did that with North Dakota a few minutes ago when Raini (from our Booklovers Facebook) was surprised how many positive cases they had. My village, which is one of the smaller incorporated villages in the county, has about 2500 people. We have some incorporated, and some unincorporated, and there are 2 that are considered cities, all part of Nassau County, the cities are Glen Cove and Long Beach. Long Beach is one people might remember from the reports about Sandy. At that time they started referring to that, and the entire chain along the south shore of Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk at the barrier islands.
Marsha, I keep mulling over the multi-cooker idea, if I could find one to fit where I have my rice cooker now, because I could use it as a rice cooker, but I just haven't found one yet. I don't really want to re-arrange all my shelves and give the one above a lot less space.
Karen, a lot of people eat honey cake for Rosh Hashanah, and there is another thing make with dough and honey, but I don't like either. I bought a small piece of crumb cake for me and DH if he wants tonight, which I am sure he will.
Waiting to hear about DS's car! It should be coming any minute, if it is not there yet.

The car was delayed, so they just got it now. Of course DS's busiest time of the day. I am waiting for pictures.
I have my brisket in the oven, and went out to buy salmon to poach tomorrow. I bought all my desserts, my this will be fun, and I am not counting points! Did some vacuuming, the downstairs level was a real mess. We have a split, and next to my garage is an extra hallway, it is a larger split. The gardener always blows stuff against the door, which comes in underneath, and I don't clean it out often enough, so just got to that, with that vacuum cleaner I hate, if you remember. I know I shouldn't do cleaning tomorrow, but I will. My knees are just really aching.
As I was thinking about things, I just realized that this week we had our third Silverberg girl of the pandemic. My 2 nephews wives had baby girls, one in July and one this week. One is in South Carolina, one in Florida, so I hope one year soon we get together.
